katisha May 5 Share May 5 (edited) Wow, the five who ended up in the elimination tonight weren't messing around. We had Gill's sob story about cooking a meal for her late father, Darssh trying to shed a manly tear over his heritage confusion, but maybe the reason both Harry and Jono ended up bottom two is because they had to pull out the big guns and mention their nonnas. (Again, how do people whose last names are Hooper and Butterfield have "nonnas"?) Harry, let this be a lesson to you - a bit less of the nonna stories and you should be OK. I think after last week's challenge and how badly he handled it, it was probaby Jono's time to leave the competition. Andy's (or do I mean Andrew's 🤣) mum is clearly a dreadful cook but she was good value as a guest! Edited May 6 by katisha Link to comment
Snazzy Daisy May 5 Share May 5 (edited) S16•E09 - Elimination with Andy’s Mum Maree’s classic dishes are oddly unappetizing. Is Andrew’s mum the price to pay for having Jamie Oliver for 2 weeks? 🤔 Jono, there’s a thing called blow torch. Try using that to get your cake out of the tin. Raw lamb? Dammit Harry. Look at how Lochy cooks his lamb. By the way, we haven’t been introduced to Lochy yet. Why? I think Alex’s fruit jelly ravioli is overrated. Does it look like ravioli? Nope. Grooming wise, her messy hair needs to be styled differently. And I find her grin is disturbingly creepy. Lily hugging her after all the compliments is really OTT. 😣 Gill and Nat’s dishes in round 2 are so similar. They’re back on cooking with their familiar ingredients/spices. Darrsh has unleashed his Sri Lankan heritage. He’s cooking savory. I hope he continues to grow in MC kitchen as he has potential. Harry has a lot to learn when it comes to developing flavors. His pasta work has saved him from being eliminated today. I hope he will stay away from “the fish guy” label because it will limit him. Two dudes invoking the power of nonna to survive and one of them has failed spectacularly. Bye Jono aka Juan’s roomies. When the cameramen zoom-in on Juan, it’s always from the front or his left side profile so we won’t see the injuries on his right cheek. @katisha You might want to amend the title of this thread as this week starts with episode 16x09. To avoid confusion. 😉 Edited May 5 by Snazzy Daisy Link to comment
katisha May 5 Author Share May 5 I'll fix it, @Snazzy Daisy...thanks for the heads-up! Meanwhile, enjoy this recap from last night. 1 1 Link to comment
katisha May 6 Author Share May 6 Well, I don't actually think tonight's episode was boring but because I'm older than dirt and had a hugely busy day yesterday, I made it through having the mystery box concept explained i.e. usual rules, but then at the 30-minute mark you had to add in an extra ingredient selected by one of the judges. Then I nodded off till the end of the cook when Nat was (predictably) walking up first to the judging table. Seems the quail was a graveyard for a couple of contestants who've ended up in the bottom four. Khristian just got a bit carried away trying to be too clever and Mimi was so busy being impressed by how great her dish was that she forgot to include the important ingredient. Meanwhile, Jean-Christophe's dish tomorrow looks positively dastardly and I feel quite sorry for the bottom four. Mon Dieu! 1 Link to comment
Snazzy Daisy May 6 Share May 6 S16•E10 - Judges’ Twist Mystery Box ANDY: “Let’s have a breast moment.” ME: “WTH dude??!” 😳 After 9 episodes, Lochy finally gets some airtime with his Lochy Pops. Why are the editors hiding him? He seems like a calm, well-mannered person. He translates well on screen. I like his deep voice. More of Lochy as talking head, please. 😍 I thought Josh C is crazy for cooking empanadas when Juan has impressed the judges with his version. In the end, thankfully, he nails it. Overconfident Khristian gets a really appropriate response from the judges - “what the hell is this”. 😆 The quirky, annoying nurse cooks a spicy bird that the judges love today. Good for you! Yo Nat! That silly ribbon on your head has got to go. You’re not in kindy anymore. 🤦🏻♀️ What’s with the botched editing this season? This episode has totally ignored Stephen, Pezza, Sav, Lourdes, David, Alex and Sue. Regarding tomorrow’s pressure test, I don’t want to see Snez or Sumeet going home. 🤞🏻🥺 1 Link to comment
katisha May 7 Author Share May 7 Woohoo - Snez and Sumeet made it! I would actually have preferred Mimi to go home rather than Khristian, who I prefer as a human being, but there's no doubt that he stuffed up the most so it was the right decision. Also, it was good that Poh came along to help him with the sugar work but if she'd done it a bit sooner, he might have had more of a fighting chance. Anyway, Khristian took his booting with good grace and humour and I really hope he gets out there and does well for himself. Is tomorrow night's challenge a relay, by any chance? Kind of looked like it in the previews? Link to comment
Snazzy Daisy May 7 Share May 7 S16•E11 - Jack In A Box Pressure Test All Poh needs to complete her look is a beret.👌🏻 Mimi is glad and relieved that it’s a dessert’s pressure test. Of course she is. 🙄 Me too, Snez. I don’t have a microwave. Don’t need one. “What is this isomalt nonsense?” Ohh Sumeet… 😂 The sugar work is frustrating but Snez makes it look easy. The look on Darrsh’s face, wishing he could be down there, working on this Michelin star dessert. FFS Khristian, scrape and clean your knife! You’re so messy. Khristian is annoying under normal circumstances and even more under pressure. He makes Mimi tolerable. He’s so busy talking to the camera, hazelnuts be damned. JC is so sweet. He’s excited and proud of them for attempting his dessert. And he’s so impressed with what Snez has managed to achieve despite all her earlier struggles. Snez has proven herself to be a capable cook who doesn’t crack under pressure. Never underestimate her. Am really glad “woe is me” Khristian is now gone. Won’t miss ya! I wanna know JC’s secret of staying young! 🤨 1 Link to comment
katisha May 8 Author Share May 8 Well, it's hard to say what was worse in that episode - Mimi making a dish good enough to send her team into the second round (and having a nice old gloat about it too 🙄) or Lourdes, of all people, winning immunity. I mean, LOURDES. Talk about winning immunity purely by default. She hasn't made a single memorable dish and I still have her in mind as someone who will be flat out making top 15. This is the first time I think we've seen this kind of immunity challenge and I'm not impressed, frankly. Ben the recapper is in good form today! Quote “Today immunity is more important than ever,” says Sue, without any evidence to back this up. She has decided to make swede gnocchi, which is certainly not the act of a woman who cares whether she wins or not. “I can make gnocchi in my sleep,” she says, but honestly that doesn’t seem like a good idea. Meanwhile, Sumeet has correctly identified that the problem with tofu is the taste, and works on anti-heroing the ingredient. Sav plans to lean into her tomato sauce, which is going to make a terrible mess. She is trying something new, but claims the flavours are in her DNA, necessitating urgent study to find a cure. With one minute to go, American Josh claims that “the panna cotta is not where it needs to be”, ie in a bin. Instead it’s on a plate, which is the last place you want an olive-flavoured dessert to be. Mimi slings her own pancakes, with peanut and sesame and so forth. The judges bring up the darkness in a very impolite way. “I’ve never had that pancake before,” says Poh, which seems pretty obvious – Mimi only just cooked it. Sofia and Jean-Christophe agree that Mimi is not quite ready to tackle anything as complicated as pancakes. 1 Link to comment
Snazzy Daisy May 8 Share May 8 S16•E12 - Two-Round Immunity Today’s 2-round immunity challenge is poorly constructed. Who approved this concept? It doesn’t give each of the contestants an equal fighting chance for immunity. Grey team should’ve put Juan/Snez in Round 1 and Turquoise team should’ve used Nat instead. You put your best cook in Round 1, not the cook who has the best idea. What are you guys thinking? 🤦🏻♀️ Sav has the best gantry supporters in Lily and Gill. The rest aren’t that enthusiastic as these two. Geez judges, chips and ice cream are not a groundbreaking combo. People do dip their fries in sundae/McFlurry at McD. 🙄 MIMi: “I just wanna be inside like a typical city girl that I am.” ME: “I totally understand the feeling!” 😆 Mimi is the only reason for Lochy and Aussie Ivanka Trump to be in Round 2. And by default, the biggest sceptic of Mimi wins immunity with her simple dish. It doesn’t feel earned. The best part of this episode is more airtime for Lochy. Yay! 😍 1 Link to comment
