S16.E12: Down the Toilet

In this his week's mini-challenge, Ru tasks our beloved contestants to recreate her groundbreaking paint from her iconic Project Runway appearance! Ru then pays homage to Darienne's newest side gig (after 0:30, if you don't want to watch it all) by making the queens spread their joy all over the Pit Crew, making no one uncomfortable in the least! A satisfying (for her) win leads Plane to a carefully choreographed Journey Through the Secret Life of Plants Emotions, leaving her momentarily discombobulated and discomfited. She explains that she doesn't want to show emotions in a carefully-controlled emotional breakdown, leading to the audience to collectively appreciate their sense of irony -- and a group hug! It's a smart pivot, but she's still not winning the season.

A less successful maxi challenge seeks to recycle AS4's fun nightclub challenge -- with a trip to the bathroom! Most of the results are ugly and/or unfunny, and Dawn is unfairly sent to the bottom after she presents, with Nymphia, what is clearly the best product with a clever concept and skillful execution. But Sapphira (and Plane) win again, because WoW wants to flush all the tension out of the season. Wins are meant to be spread around, people! Also: VELOUR IN A TOILET.

After a runway that feels awfully familiar, if only because Morphine recreates an-above average Melinda Verga lewk in gold, Ru leans into late-season tropes and boots Morphine and Dawn to the bottom with little sensible reasoning. Morphine cleans the main stage with Dawn and lives to move on to what will probably be her last episode, and departure from the season! Goodbye, our little elf! I can't explain the results either.

Next week: chaos ensues at makeover time when all the remaining queens are tasked with transforming Amanda Tori Meating into a runway-ready drag queen using only Silky's Sharpies! Plane struggles to assimilate Data's Emotion Chip into her orbitofrontal cortex.

I have absolutely ZERO interest in anything Morphine presents in this competition. She is the most basic basic BASIC queen on stage and yet we still have to watch her instead of Dawn, who is always interesting, if not a winner. I am baffled that the lip sync is that important. And I am all in for a Sapphira win because the rest are just too petty and jealous and unfocussed and, ugh, I guess I am over this season.

I don't think that anyone has a problem with a Sapphira win. The problem for viewers at this point is that the writers have leached all the fun and tension out of the season by underlining the fact that she is the only viable winner: Q is getting the Bitter Betty edit, Nymphia is...Nymphia, and, because I enjoy writing it, I'll type it again: Plane is not winning the season. 

WoW just hasn't learned anything from AS5 and AS8: Sapphira has the stuff to win it all cleanly, but it looks like they've decided to rig the end of the season for her anyway, which would lead to an unsatisfying ending for a wholly worthy queen. Just let them compete!

Such an uninspiring season. I wish Amanda was still there for some great talking heads and a bit of light relief.

I liked the hell themed bathroom the best: they had so many parts well thought out . The Art one was just repeating the word fart over and over. I think Sapphira is the chosen winner but it was the same with Sasha Colby and I found that boring too.

This episode was so boring. I had to keep rewinding because I kept zoning out. It was so predictible. I knew they were going to gush over Sapphira and Plain's bathroom and I knew they were going to be the top team before we even got to the judging. I'm was a little surprised that they gave them a co-win instead of singling out Sapphira the solo win.

Can we just skip to the final 3 of Sapphira, Nymphia and Plain already?

I did feel bad for Dawn as soon as the song was revealed. She never had a chance.

It was so clunky that they had Norvina made that Jane Goodall reference in the mini challenge when she wouldn't have seen the Snatch Game.

I was pretty shocked they gave another win to Sapphira.  I don't think even Sasha Colby had as many wins in such a short time and she slayed every time!  They are taking the drama out of the season.  I'm for a final two of Sapphira and Nymphia Wind.  But, I have a feeling Plane Jane is going to be in the finale, as well.

Yes, yes it was. I actually winced a few times. I like Morphine but she has no wins & ain't snatching the crown, my girl Sapphira is. 

I have zero interest in watching Jane's struggles to activate her basic humanity chip. I find her odious & don't even look at the screen when she's on it.

Honestly, I only laughed once during the main challenge: the TP roll being so far away from the toilet. For me it was a meh challenge.

Some of the issue is the writing/production happening but the Queens are also playing it so safe nowadays. No one is hungry for a win. They know that if they're memorable, make it near the end and don't piss off the fanbase the bookings go up, the chance to return another season goes up and the win, while nice, isn't as important as their long-term work.

Dawn gave up in that lipsync. I think she didn't want to embarrass herself but it sure made for a shitty end of the episode. No suspense, nothing to see at all. Body strongly favoured Morphine but Dawn didn't try.

Q was pissed at the results and I'm sure that's the very reason the decision was made but she's far too camera savvy to start a fight so instead of good tv, we got someone being very mature, a half-assed tiff over poorly chosen words and then nothing. 

The show is boring now because the Queens play it too safe. Even Plane, who played the villain is still so tame compared to Queens in the early years. She doesn't mean it. She's not really invested in any of her comments or in any rivalries with the other girls She's just a troll. She says shocking things for attention but doesn't really believe much of what she says. 

I don't know what the producers do to fix it; the show has gotten too big for anyone to be messy. The contestants all know better. They've been in the fandom and they know what happens to a mean Queen. They know what happens when a Queen embarrasses herself. They know what the consequences are of getting on Ru's bad side. So they very wisely play it safe. This is their career and their livelihood. They can't be out here playing a wild game. It has real world consequences.

Dawn's outfit didn't help her either.  I kept waiting for her to either remove the skirt or bring out the scissors and cut it off so that she could actually move.  Or if she wasn't willing to ruin her outfit (understandably), why didn't she  lean into it and pretend she was really chained up?  It could be funny to imagine someone tied up in a straight jacket while trying to dance to that song.  Not sure why most of the queens seem to be afraid to bring comedy to the LSFYL this season.

Anyways, I would be surprised if Morphine makes it to the F4 (unless Ru is really trying to make it easy for Sapphira lol).
