Most of the side stories bore me. I like Russell and the party scenes with him tripping out were funny. But I don't get the subplot with Blanche and Judith at all. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with Julia. Alice's love life doesn't particularly interest me either.

I don't know, whenever the show veers away from Julia I get bored with it.  Is the show not confident about doing a story just about Julia? Or is this a way to throw some of that HBO money around and give a bunch of other actors jobs?

There are too many separate stories.

Avis is apparently getting a nice gentleman paramour.

Russ is probably going to crash and burn hosting his documentary series.

Hunter is going to push for hot shows like The French Chef.

Alice is going to continue to struggle for recognition amongst the men.

Blanche (I think) is struggling with mental decline.

Judith is overworked.

Ok then.

I expect -- hope -- that these stories will come together when Julia returns, but right now it's not too interesting seeing these other people work and play without her.

Oh, and all the stuff with Paul and Simca's husband in the garden seemed esp pointless.

I love seeing Paul and Julia together.

I do want to see Julia succeed with that fish, but only if we find out what she did wrong.

I can't remember what other popular shows WGBH did. I'm not sure I want to spoil myself by looking it up. But I probably will.

This is interesting - gives a background on (W)GBH and has archives of some of the shows including from the 1960s.

I feel like every show I grew up watching on PBS was made by WGBH

WGBH started production of Masterpiece Theater in January of 1971, and it was Masterpiece Theater that brought the phenomenally successful Upstairs Downstairs, which was the Downton Abbey of the 1970s, to America.

I also associate Russ Morash and GBH with an old favorite, This Old House.  That was required viewing for me on Sunday nights.  I loved the original version with Bob Vila when they played the theme song by Fats Waller.  Louisiana Fairytale, I just learned is the name.  When I hear that song, it says Sunday night for me.
