LadyChatts April 7 Share April 7 Season 45 is going to start filming any day now. There's nothing yet, obviously, but I found this on Reddit. I've heard that Redmond has been teasing about the upcoming season being something fans will love and have been asking for, and then there's this screenshot from his Twitter page (someone asked if it might be 90 minute episodes and he gave that wide eye emoji as a reaction, so maybe it's that?) And as far as I know, it's just newbies so no returning players, unless that changed. Link to comment
bunnyface April 7 Share April 7 No Idols? Or at least not 5,000 idols and advantages? But ideally, don't tell them there are no idols and let them search away. 2 1 1 Link to comment

Apparently it might be 90 minute episodes-which means nearly twice the time for more idols and advantages (real or fake)! That screenshot was actually from his website Insider Survivor, not Twitter, and there’s another thread on Reddit where he says that he is hearing it’ll be 90 minute episodes. I was hoping we would be getting new challenges. They get rid of the coconut chopping challenge and the auction because contestants “broke” them, but why doesn’t the same rule apply when 3d printers become an unofficial contestant in the challenges? I hope 90 minute episodes means more focus on the contestants. Sometimes we have long episodes and still there’s those who get next to no airtime. 5 Link to comment
seacliffsal April 8 Share April 8 Of course, they could "fix" the auction by no longer offering an advantage or letter from home. Let those who keep their money hoping for some such leave empty handed-that would change it up for future versions. There are ways to fix some of the older challenges to have different results and it would really throw the survivors for a loop which could be really interesting and fun. 2 Link to comment
TVFan1 April 8 Share April 8 There goes my hope for them going back to 39 days. I was hoping for that. 3 Link to comment

You see, the last time they had a 90 minute episode was the second episode of 43, and I thought that episode was downright horrible because it took place entirely in the male perspective (I won't forget about Noelle's disability suddenly became about Cody's friend who died). So as much as I think 90 minute episodes open up the door to more tribe dynamics, it doesn't mean the show is actually capable of following through. We know they can have 90 minute episodes and STILL screw it up by focusing on the same four people. 3 1 Link to comment

If they really want to ramp up the drama, hide the letters from home with another auction item. "You win this bowl of black-eyed peas with a side of cornbread.... AND a letter from home!" You don't tell them when a letter is coming up, you don't let them bid on the letters, maybe you let the winner pick one more person to get a letter to torpedo his or her own game. That will encourage bidding on EVERYTHING, and no one will hold their money to the end. I'm just sick of endless obstacle courses and puzzles. Bring back the auction. Make 'em cling to a pole. Make them run around naked with various railings all set to testicle height. Pay the Specialist to appear on every season, and give him a vote at FTC. 2 Link to comment

Yeah, I've been thinking about this a lot over the past couple of episodes, and I really think 90 minute episodes is going to equate to more time spent with certain contestants, idols, advantages, summit island trips, etc. Just more time to pack in stupid twists. After this past week I was surprised at how much flack the show is taking on SM, especially from former contestants. This game has clearly left its roots as a "social experiment" and instead turned into a moment maker, with production trying anything and everything to create something epic. I know the previous new-era of Survivor (I guess circa late 20s/early 30s seasons) seemed to be about big moves, resume building, and fast game play, which is why some OG winners couldn't keep up in S40. But Probst seemed to set that speed to spin and try to get as many big plays and events as he can. I'm not opposed to 90 minute episodes, but I think there are better changes the show can make, especially after this season. Edited April 16 by LadyChatts 4 Link to comment
LadyChatts April 16 Author Share April 16 (edited) And apparently Bruce might already be back for S45, per Redmond (I believe filming should be under way now, maybe started within the last few days or so). Unknown if he'll be the only returning player, or if this might be a situation like Philippines where another medevac player(s) returns. Outside of Matt, have their been any other medevacs in recent seasons? Edited April 16 by LadyChatts Link to comment

I read late last night or early this morning that it might be players who were med-evaced in their first episode (so Pat and Kourtney), but I thought that was just some rumour that someone decided to make up. I'm pretty sure it's still made up, but this piece of information IS interesting. I do think it's likely just Bruce since he left day 1 and he'd be considered technically new for not playing enough of the game (his game ended in that first challenge). Link to comment

Yeah, I'm thinking it'll probably be just Bruce. I'm surprised he's back already, even though Probst had extended the invitation (but I figured it'd be down the road in another returning player season). I guess he's enough of a newbie, and I wonder if production didn't feel guilty or responsible for his ouster. Some could argue Bruce should have been watching where he was going, but others can blame the production design, having a challenge day/minute one, and the fact that medical just sent him back to the beach without maybe properly evaluating him (not to mention they left him on the sidelines with his head bleeding). I'm curious what Matt's reaction will be, as I'm sure he's got to be a little jealous that Bruce is already back, but Probst didn't say anything about having him back. 2 Link to comment
Lady Calypso May 15 Share May 15 Some of the cast has leaked for Survivor 45: https://insidesurvivor.com/cast/rumored-survivor-45-cast Which is exciting because I actually know one of the people playing this season (and not just I know him from a friend of a friend of a friend) so it's the first time I personally know someone playing on a reality show who I have interacted with. 10 1 Link to comment
LadyChatts May 17 Author Share May 17 (edited) So Redmond has revealed 15/18. So far, we have 5 in their 30s, 9 in their 20s, and Bruce being the only one over 40. I saw something from Redmond where he makes it seem like there aren't going to be any older contestants this year. Maybe they brought Bruce back less because they felt sorry for him and more because they need at least one contestant over 40? Or maybe this is productions way or making sure there isn't a slaughter of young 20 something women in the pre-merge phase (I'm still not getting too attached). Now that all 18 are revealed, there is another over 40: Julie, 49. So will she be first boot, or F3 zero vote-getter? Link to comment
