Survivor 45: Spoilers & Speculation

Season 45 is going to start filming any day now.  There's nothing yet, obviously, but I found this on Reddit.  I've heard that Redmond has been teasing about the upcoming season being something fans will love and have been asking for, and then there's this screenshot from his Twitter page (someone asked if it might be 90 minute episodes and he gave that wide eye emoji as a reaction, so maybe it's that?)  And as far as I know, it's just newbies so no returning players, unless that changed.

No Idols?  Or at least not 5,000 idols and advantages?  But ideally, don't tell them there are no idols and let them search away.

Apparently it might be 90 minute episodes-which means nearly twice the time for more idols and advantages (real or fake)!  That screenshot was actually from his website Insider Survivor, not Twitter, and there’s another thread on Reddit where he says that he is hearing it’ll be 90 minute episodes.  I was hoping we would be getting new challenges.  They get rid of the coconut chopping challenge and the auction because contestants “broke” them, but why doesn’t the same rule apply when 3d printers become an unofficial contestant in the challenges?

I hope 90 minute episodes means more focus on the contestants.  Sometimes we have long episodes and still there’s those who get next to no airtime.

Of course, they could "fix" the auction by no longer offering an advantage or letter from home.  Let those who keep their money hoping for some such leave empty handed-that would change it up for future versions.  There are ways to fix some of the older challenges to have different results and it would really throw the survivors for a loop which could be really interesting and fun.

You see, the last time they had a 90 minute episode was the second episode of 43, and I thought that episode was downright horrible because it took place entirely in the male perspective (I won't forget about Noelle's disability suddenly became about Cody's friend who died). So as much as I think 90 minute episodes open up the door to more tribe dynamics, it doesn't mean the show is actually capable of following through. We know they can have 90 minute episodes and STILL screw it up by focusing on the same four people.

If they really want to ramp up the drama, hide the letters from home with another auction item.  "You win this bowl of black-eyed peas with a side of cornbread.... AND a letter from home!"

You don't tell them when a letter is coming up, you don't let them bid on the letters, maybe you let the winner pick one more person to get a letter to torpedo his or her own game. That will encourage bidding on EVERYTHING, and no one will hold their money to the end.

I'm just sick of endless obstacle courses and puzzles.  Bring back the auction. Make 'em cling to a pole. Make them run around naked with various railings all set to testicle height.  Pay the Specialist to appear on every season, and give him a vote at FTC.

Yeah, I've been thinking about this a lot over the past couple of episodes, and I really think 90 minute episodes is going to equate to more time spent with certain contestants, idols, advantages, summit island trips, etc.  Just more time to pack in stupid twists.  After this past week I was surprised at how much flack the show is taking on SM, especially from former contestants.  This game has clearly left its roots as a "social experiment" and instead turned into a moment maker, with production trying anything and everything to create something epic.  I know the previous new-era of Survivor (I guess circa late 20s/early 30s seasons) seemed to be about big moves, resume building, and fast game play, which is why some OG winners couldn't keep up in S40.  But Probst seemed to set that speed to spin and try to get as many big plays and events as he can.  I'm not opposed to 90 minute episodes, but I think there are better changes the show can make, especially after this season.

And apparently Bruce might already be back for S45, per Redmond (I believe filming should be under way now, maybe started within the last few days or so).  Unknown if he'll be the only returning player, or if this might be a situation like Philippines where another medevac player(s) returns.  Outside of Matt, have their been any other medevacs in recent seasons?

Jackson from 42. Prior to that, you'd have to go back to Pat from DvG, then all the way back to Neal from Brains/Brawn/Beauty.

I read late last night or early this morning that it might be players who were med-evaced in their first episode (so Pat and Kourtney), but I thought that was just some rumour that someone decided to make up. I'm pretty sure it's still made up, but this piece of information IS interesting.

I do think it's likely just Bruce since he left day 1 and he'd be considered technically new for not playing enough of the game (his game ended in that first challenge).

Yeah, I'm thinking it'll probably be just Bruce.  I'm surprised he's back already, even though Probst had extended the invitation (but I figured it'd be down the road in another returning player season).  I guess he's enough of a newbie, and I wonder if production didn't feel guilty or responsible for his ouster.  Some could argue Bruce should have been watching where he was going, but others can blame the production design, having a challenge day/minute one, and the fact that medical just sent him back to the beach without maybe properly evaluating him (not to mention they left him on the sidelines with his head bleeding).  I'm curious what Matt's reaction will be, as I'm sure he's got to be a little jealous that Bruce is already back, but Probst didn't say anything about having him back.

So Redmond has revealed 15/18.  So far, we have 5 in their 30s, 9 in their 20s, and Bruce being the only one over 40.  I saw something from Redmond where he makes it seem like there aren't going to be any older contestants this year.  Maybe they brought Bruce back less because they felt sorry for him and more because they need at least one contestant over 40?  Or maybe this is productions way or making sure there isn't a slaughter of young 20 something women in the pre-merge phase (I'm still not getting too attached).

Ok then, it’s already been decided; his name this season pretty much has to be “Just Bruce”.

Now that all 18 are revealed, there is another over 40: Julie, 49. So will she be first boot, or F3 zero vote-getter?

Since Redmond can't even get the 46 cast yet I wonder if that means spoilers for that and this season will be minimal. Some random on reddit claims they know stuff for 45 but only mentioned the auction is back, Niko doesn't win, and the F3 is not Jake/Kellie/Julie in that exact combo and nothing else so far.

Considering how heavily 42 and 44 were spoiled, I wouldn't be surprised if the leaker either isn't with CBS anymore or they really put their foot down about spoilers getting out.  IIRC, 44 was spoiled before 43 even ended.

I'm happy if the auction is back.  I know some people "broke" challenges and twists and whatever, but I wish CBS wouldn't just give up on them.  They seem to have no idea using the same challenges over and over again that people can construct at home and practice.

So it's worth noting that there were spoilers floating around that said there were two quits this season, and obviously we had one tonight.  Since Brandon is believed to go next, I wonder if he might be the other one.

TPTB seemed kind of quiet about this season until right around premiere week, so some thought maybe they didn't like how it turned out.

ETA: So here's the link from Reddit.  If this person is correct, there's 2 quits, SITD works, a female winner (but not Kellie or Julie, and said they didn't count Katurah out), Jake makes the final 3 but gets zero votes, and Julie's in the finale (which means she wouldn't be the speculated third boot).  Bruce and Kaleb make the merge, Austin also makes the finale, and there is a tribe swap.  Believes J Maya is earn the merge or goes around that.  They also believe Brandon is second or at least out early.  Since this is all we have for now, I guess we'll see how it goes.

So this is mixing speculation with spoilers, but the source that spoiled stuff on Reddit claims a tribe is decimated and everyone is out by I think the final 8.  Right now it seems like that would have to be Lulu.  Since there's a RC and IC next week, the two challenges that were accounted for by the posters on Sucks are taking place next week.

I wonder if the preview hints at Lulu going to TC again, and Sabiyah maybe gets blindsided out.  We saw her mention Kaleb's name to Emily, and if Lulu still doesn't have fire she may not be able to get her idol and therefore not have her vote.  It's possible she's throwing Kaleb's name out to Emily as a red herring because she doesn't want Emily to play her SITD, but we know Sabiyah wasn't happy last week with Emily staying and Brandon going, and she had no say in the matter.  This person claims SITD is played successfully, so maybe Emily plays it and it works, and then Sabiyah ends up going home.  Or maybe Sabiyah throwing Kaleb's name out wasn't meant as a red herring, Emily takes it back to Kaleb (who she probably trusts more than Sabiyah since he went to bat for her), and Kaleb decides to vote Sabiyah out.  Plus, that would put Lulu's idol back in play.

This does line up with early spoilers on potential first boots. J Maya, Sabiyah AND Sifu were all rumoured to be early boots for posting on social media while the show was still filming, and Brando's name had also floated out there early, though it was mere speculation.

Based off of spoilers and speculation going into tonight, I think Lulu loses and Sabiyah is gone.  It seems like she came back bitter from her experience, so her ouster might line up with that.  This same person said J Maya goes at or near the earn the merge.

If there is a swap, I wonder if it's actually next episode, as an attempt to stop Lulu from completely being wiped out pre-merge.

But yeah, sucks about Sabiyah if true, as I've really liked her, but curious to see how it happens.

Looks like the swap screwed Reba. I’d have preferred Lulu to be Pagonged or at least lose Sean, can’t believe that guy leads a school.

If the rest of the spoilers/speculation add up, I think the Reba 4 alliance makes the merge intact and goes deep.  The spoiler source said that Julie and Austin are in the finale, and I've seen elsewhere that Dee potentially could be the winner.  There was also a rumor Austin made the final 3 but doesn't win.  This source also said one tribe ends up being decimated (no doubt that's Lulu-Kaleb is the only member of that tribe they said makes the merge so far).

The bigger question is what happens with Belo.  Bruce supposedly makes the merge, and the source didn't count Katurah out of winning (all he said was there was a female winner).  Kellie has an interesting edit, since she's in the middle of her alliances right now.  If Brando is a pre-merge boot, I can see why his edit has been quiet.  If Jake really does make the final 3 and gets no votes, I can kind of see where they are setting that up.  There's also supposedly another contestant who quits.

I can see where Sifu, Brando, and J Maya might go because they get unlucky with the swap.  Sifa and J Maya were already on the outs with Reba as it was (kind of curious why J Maya is).

ETA: So with a tribe swap next week, the new tribes are reportedly:

Lulu: Kaleb, Katurah, Bruce, Kellie, Jake (4 former Belos, I original Lulu)

Reba: Sean, Sifu, Julie, Dee, J Maya (1 former Lulu, 4 original Rebas)

Belo: Emily, Drew, Austin, Kendra, Brando (1 former Lulu, 2 former Rebas, 2 original Belos)

Yeah, there's not a lot of information on Belo, beyond Jake potentially being a 0 vote finalist and Brando being pre-merge. Kellie, Katurah and Kendra's positions are really up in the air. Beyond Kendra/Katurah making it far enough to be in contention for finalists/winners, Kellie's position seems completely unknown. It seems like she could make merge but be early jury, in that case.

Belo: Emily, Drew, Austin, Kendra, Brando (1 former Lulu, 2 former Rebas, 2 original Belos)

That is certainly interesting. New Lulu is not going to Tribal before merge, then, because it would be super easy to vote out Kaleb right off the bat (but knowing at least four of them make merge, and them being a strong tribe, they're clearly avoiding Tribal).

New Reba has two pre-merge boots, which means they're more likely to lose the next few tribals, and I can see how Sean would likely go first out of that new tribe. I wonder how Sifu goes, but I could see a scenario where the women team up to get the men out, which means Sifu and Sean go before merge. If I had to guess, they might (wrongly) target Sifu first, leaving them vulnerable to lose the next immunity challenge, and then they get rid of Sean (and then mergatory starts after that, which is when J Maya is rumoured to go). But I think I have my math mixed up on when mergatory starts, so I guess my point about Sean is likely wrong. He makes merge, but still gets taken out shortly after.

New Belo has one pre-merge boot, which means they lose once, potentially even as soon as next week, and I can see how that happens. Brando doesn't have Kellie on his tribe to help him, and with Drew/Austin being a duo, and Emily potentially connecting with Kendra, I see how Brando is left out, especially if he tries to make a big move and fails or if he fails spectacularly at a challenge and the team goes Tribe Strong.

I saw something on Sucks last night about the fact that we haven't seen anyone at Belo looking for their idol, and what if Austin/Drew end up finding it over at their camp?  Because that would be my luck lol  It's possible Brando tells them he doesn't think anyone found it so they go looking for the heck of it.  At the very least, I think they are showing those two are not a powerful duo, even if they are getting lucky with all the advantages.  I don't think anyone looks at Drew as a threat, and that's why they are trusting him with info.  I can also see how Brando probably gets screwed here.  He may not even have Kendra.  I wonder if Emily's comment in the preview for next week ("music to a girl's ears", which happens to be the episode title) is her thinking she might be on the outs with 2 Belo/2 Reba, but the 2 Reba guys want to vote off a Belo and need her.  It'd make more sense to get rid of a Belo or Reba member since their tribes are all fully intact still.

However, will Austin try to sacrifice his vote so the idol can be used further down the road?  Or can he sacrifice his vote, and then Drew use that goodwill advantage to restore it.  Because unless they get Kendra onboard with voting Brando they would need Austin's vote.  Kendra might be willing to vote Brando, however, so maybe Austin gets lucky.

As to the other tribes: Sifu and J Maya are with Julie and Dee, who they are unknowingly (I think) on the outs with.  Here's another case that might benefit the lone Lulu member, because Sean seems to go where he thinks the numbers are.  I'm not really sure what their deal is with J Maya, but I think Sifu just annoys his tribe.  So this is a chance for them to get rid of him by using Sean, especially if Sifu and J Maya think they are voting Sean and staying Reba strong.

Worth noting that the person who spoiled things so far made a comment about Kendra saying she's also pre-jury.  So maybe Belo loses another IC and she's outnumbered between Emily, Drew, and Austin.  If that's true, then I guess we have all our remaining pre-jurors accounted for (Sifu, J Maya, Brando, and Kendra).

Then there's the subject of who the second quit is.  I've seen some places leaning Sean, others leaning J Maya.  J Maya might actually make more sense.  Maybe losing Sifu and realizing she's been outplayed makes her want to quit.  She's had a non-existent edit, but Sean's edit hasn't been super heavy, either.

Yeah, Sean pretty much told everybody to vote him out. That is a quit to me. So the 2 quits are Hannah and Sean. It will be interesting to how the rest of the spoilers go.

If the spoilers hold up the next 3 to go should be Sifu/Brando, and then J Maya at or around earn the merge.  Someone on Reba mentioned tonight getting rid of Sifu, Sean, then the merge, and I think it was her.  So maybe that's foreshadowing to her exit.

Sifu and Brando's exits are both being set up nicely.  I wonder if Belo loses next, because that could explain the scene of Kendra and Brando talking to Emily in the previews.  But Brando is clearly going to be outside the numbers, and Sifu is also on the outs.  So assuming those boots are accurate, might be a couple of boring episodes.

Emily makes the merge. The only pre-merge boots confirmed are Brando, Sifu, and then J Maya goes out around merge.

It's unclear how far she makes it, but the only thing that has been speculated is that she doesn't make final 5. I've seen speculation that she might go out around F8, but it's just speculation.

So this was on Twitter-supposedly the best TC in 20 years tonight.  It's believed Belo goes to TC, which could actually be interesting for a number of reasons.  Emily is seemingly in the middle with the two pairs on either side of her needing her vote.  If the spoilers hold up, Brando leaves tonight.  I've seen speculation on Sucks that maybe Emily actually ends up siding with Kendra/Brandon, and Drew/Austin use their multiple advantages to pull through.  Maybe they even create a ruse where they want Kendra/Brando to feel safe so neither plays their SITD, so Drew uses his advantages to leave TC, he gives the goodwill advantage to Austin so he can vote and still have a good idol, and somehow Emily/Austin alone manage to oust Brando.  There's also the spoiler that someone uses their SITD correctly this season, so maybe Kendra does and Brando goes as a result?

Link to comment

So I misread that Tweet earlier, because it said best episode (not best TC).  However, TC or just plain episode I can’t say that was the best in 20 years.  Sean’s quit episode was more exciting than this.

So if the spoilers hold up Sifu and J Maya will be the next to go.  If it’s like past seasons, I assume the merge next week will split everyone into two tribes.  One tribe wins immunity but still votes, the other half is vulnerable.  J Maya was said to go at or near earn the merge, so I think Sifu goes first (he has footage in the previews for next week, and I think he’s going to have a false sense of security while actually annoying everybody).  I wish we knew more of what happened once those two are gone.  I really want to know how long Drew is going to be around.

This is probably wishful thinking on my part, but since the SITD is supposed to actually work this season, I wonder if whoever plays it is responsible for Drew going home?  Maybe the scene with Brando, where he refused to take Brando's SITD because he was too arrogant to want to even pretend to make a deal, is foreshadowing to someone's SITD being his demise.

The winner is also allegedly one of Dee, Emily, Katurah, or Kendra.  If it's Dee, then at least 3 of the 4 Reba alliance members make the finale.  So maybe Drew gets cut right before that.

So if that rumor's true, then the breakdown could be:

Next out: J. Maya, Sifu (first casualties from original Reba)
Early jury: Bruce, Kellie, Kendra/Katurah (all original Belo)
F8: Kaleb, Emily (the end of Lulu)
SITDed?: Drew
F5: Austin, Dee, Julie (three Rebas), Jake, Katurah/Kendra (two Belos)

So now it's believed Sifu will actually be in the safe group next week, and J Maya is not (this is based on screen shot evidence from the posters at Sucks and Reddit).  The losing group is believed to be Austin, Dee, J Maya, Julie, Jake, and Kellie (so 4 former Rebas and 2 Belos).  The winning group would then be Drew, Sifu, Emily, Kaleb, Kendra, Bruce, and Katurah.

Since it's everybody voting, I can see where J Maya gets lost in the shuffle.  She wasn't as tight with her Reba members like she thought she was, Belo would likely have no problem sacrificing a Reba member to keep Jake and Kellie in the game, and Emily/Kaleb will likely go where the numbers are.  They have no ties to J Maya.  I will be curious if this will be a more split vote or a landslide ouster.

I wonder if Jake winds up going against Belo, and that's why he ends up with zero votes.  His game doesn't seem to be that bad so far, but he has said he's open to jumping ship if needed.  So maybe he helps betray Belo, or if he sees them getting picked off makes a deal with the Rebas.  I feel like in some ways, this is also setting Kellie's edit up since she was portraying herself as being in the middle, but having more of a bond with the guys.  So Jake helping to eliminate her might bring that full circle.

So two more things proved correct tonight: SITD worked, and J Maya left.  Next week one of the boots should be Sifu.  I was trying to think tonight how that was going to happen, but if two people are leaving then that might make sense.  Especially if they divide the tribes up into two (not sure if that is the plan, but that makes the most sense for a double boot and what I think they've done in other seasons).  Curious who the other one will be.  Outside of the alleged final 5/potential winner, we are in a gray area of not knowing who might be leaving next.

According to the rumor I read, it should be Sifu and Bruce. I'm curious to know if Bruce is actually the second one voted off after Sifu.

I'd love nothing more than for Bruce to leave.  I was really rooting for him but after tonight I just can't.  I will say my gut feeling said Bruce, Emily, and Kaleb may be among the next few to leave.  I think Jake ends up turning on Belo, and that may be why he gets zero votes in the final 3.  And I also feel like the target might have gotten bigger on Kaleb and Emily's backs.  Sabiyah said in one of her exit interviews something to the effect of Emily being sorry she kept Kaleb-so maybe Kaleb turns on her despite her helping him out (twice).  I also think, just with siding with Drew/Austin to vote out Brando, and then this whole TC fiasco where Kaleb played his short in the dark may come back to bite her.  Neither of them have any real allies.

So the alleged tribe divisions this week for the double boot are:

Blue: Bruce, Kellie, Kendra, Drew, Sifu, and Emily (if spoilers hold on Sifu will go)

Red: Dee, Austin, Julie, Jake, Katurah, and Kaleb

Drew still has an advantage where he can leave TC before the vote is cast, but doesn't cast a vote.  Since Drew has no allegiance to Sifu, and I doubt any real loyalty to Emily, this might be the chance for him to weasel out and not face any serious consequences.

Not liking Kaleb's odds with this breakdown.  If they follow formats from recent seasons someone from each group will win immunity, so that would leave just 5 people up for the vote on each.  In addition, the spoiler source is apparently backing away from the rumored final 5 that was out there (Dee, Austin, Julie, Jake, and I think Kendra/Katurah?)  So if that part isn't accurate, but the part about Julie and Jake making the finals still is, it could be interesting on the Red tribe.  Odds are though Dee/Austin/Julie will hang together and maybe try to bring in Katurah/Jake or Kaleb to get a majority.

That rumor had Sifu going and then Bruce goes after making the merge, but I don't see how that happens since Bruce and Sifu are on the same team and if both teams vote out somebody, Bruce couldn't go after Sifu. This rumor is most likely debunked.

Same. Everyone but Kaleb is rumoured to make it to the finale or is in the running to win, so I think he's gone with this tribe breakdown. Even if the spoiler source is backing away from it now, they were saying it initially for a reason, so I think, even if those final five was just a rumour and not confirmed, they must make it far enough to have the spoiler source confused to their placements.

Curiosity has the better of me if Bruce might be the next one to go.  If the spoilers we have are correct then:

Julie and Jake make the finale, with Jake being a zero vote getter

There's a female winner that isn't Julie or Kellie

They didn't rule out Katurah and I think said it could be her, Kendra, Emily, or Dee

And that Kaleb and Bruce "did fine, made the merge".  I know this source was asked about those two, but they've been vague about anyone else's placements.  Since Kaleb left tonight, I wonder if maybe Bruce is next?
