S02.E03: What Are You Playing At, Little Girl?

Good episode. I'm glad Abby and Ginny are friends. And they're right, Max is being an insufferable asshole.

Georgia's speech at the end was good, but it's not like sexual abuse or murder were the only options. She could have accused the guy of feeling up her daughter and moved out with the kids.

I also didn't love Georgia getting into the neighbourhood club by playing tricks on the poor woman with the dying husband. I take it she stole the book and planted it in Cynthia's kid's bag. Am I supposed to be rooting against her?

The show has Ginny acting out in teenage ways, but her issue with her mother is a serious, adult problem.

I have to wonder if Marcus will tell people Georgia's secret later this season. Maybe if Ginny cheats on him with Hunter or something.

100%. As soon as Ginny promised Georgia she'd never tell anyone after she already told Marcus, I was like he is for sure spreading that at some point lol.

I don't know why no one calls her on it. We talked about how exhausting she was last season, too.

I have a very hard time believing a smallish town like Wellsbury has a school budget of $89 million. I know it's affluent, but that number seems excessive regardless.

I'm torn whether Zion should tell Georgia that Ginny is in therapy. I get why he hasn't, even aside from Ginny not wanting him to, but Georgia is her mom, and that's something a co-parent should know. Though Georgia is such a loose cannon she can't be trusted with that info.

Same. I was sort of on teenage Georgia's side because she was a kid and desperate. But now she's an adult. She should at least be trying to be a better person. Preying on a woman with a dying husband is gross.

Poor Joe. He's just trying to be a decent guy, and he gets taken advantage of.

Who is Mary? Do we know? I can't remember.

I am thinking that Georgia is in need of therapy as much (or more) than Ginny. She learned one way to survive and now she reverts to that in every situation. And she's very good at it, so it works. I was actually fine with it in some of her past situations. But increasingly her coping mechanisms are being applied to people who don't deserve it.

I don't like the woman she asked for help, but I also think it's gross the way she used her, and the way she keeps referring to her husband being dead, or saying "I'd want them to pull the plug." Just stop.

I'm glad Marcus finally acknowledged Ginny at school, he was getting on my last nerve with that crap, sleeping with her, and then ignoring her.

I just started watching this show last week and am caught up to this episode. Some thoughts:

Joe - Literally the only reason I took a chance on the show. Netflix kept recommending the show to me, and then I stumbled upon a Joe/Georgia video online. I recognized the actor from a Hallmark Christmas movie I watched and enjoyed last year. LOL, how is Joe single? He is cute, funny, lives on a farm, and is employed. I would absolutely be at his restaurant/cafe on a daily basis. BTW, did you know that Joe and Padma are brother and sister in real life?

Paul - Seems like a nice guy. Got a little weird for a second there last season when he was speaking to Georgia about the two of them craving power or whatever, but he doesn’t seem like a bad person. He’s great with the kids (especially Austin) and should be a good stepdad (if the wedding actually happens), but Georgia will probably blow up his entire life.

The Teens - Assholes.
-
Max is so damn hyper/overdramatic/over-the-top. I really hope Sophie doesn’t get back together with her…that voicemail Max left Sophie after their breakup was SO cringey.
-Marcus just grosses me out with the way he and Ginny first hooked up last season and kept sneaking around behind Padma and Hunter’s backs.                                       -Ginny…sigh. She became increasingly unlikeable as the show went on. Her mother told her about being abused and molested, she was sympathetic for like two seconds, and then she became more of an asshole. She has alerted Austin’s dad to their whereabouts, which will probably be a disaster. She stole Marcus’ motorcycle and took off with her brother in tow. She knows her mother’s a murderer (bad, yes), told her boyfriend, and keeps hanging it over Georgia’s head. WTF, take therapy seriously and get some help. Sending your mother to prison for murder is not going to make your life better. Oh how I wish the show would significantly reduce the teens screen time. They’re awful!

Georgia - I wish they would write Georgia as more savvy than they have been. Stealing money from the mayoral account and then depositing it all back?? LOL, I am sure that’s not going to majorly blow up in the future. I thought her scams would be more sophisticated, I guess. Also, how does she not realize that Joe has it bad for her? I really would expect her to be more observant than that.

The twins’ mom is great - I love her, and their dad seems like a nice guy. What did they do to deserve such shit kids?!

Anyway, I wish the show would ditch the kids (even Ginny) and focus on the adults. But I know that’s not going to happen 😩

I may be alone in this but I think Hunter is trying to figure out his sexuality.

Abby may have issues with her body image and her parents are divorcing but I think even without those issues she is scary (to me), just something there, her vibe, something.

Why hasn't Ginny gone to the principal with her concerns about the English teacher especially if other poc are having the same issues.

Marcus needs professional help, Ginny cannot fix him.

Max is very focused on herself but that is the life of a teenager but the over dramatic way she has is exhausting, kudos to her friends for being able to be around her.

Does it annoy anyone else that Georgia has been using the same purse for a year now? I do not know why that bugs me, I mean it is cute and all but everyday?

How does Joe not say anything to Georgia about them meeting when they were teens and how does Georgia not realize she knew Joe?

Paul aside from having a very nice body does nothing for me, he is as exciting (to me) as the guys they pick to be on The Bachelor."

Is the Blue Barn the only restaurant in town?

That Neighborhood Club get's museum quality items to display but no security cameras or alarms? Wouldn't insurance companies require those if you had things on loan to you, for insurance claims in case of theft, etc...?

I really did not like Georgia messing with the woman who's husband is dying, even if she's pissed about not getting into the ladies club. Georgia is even more in need of therapy than Ginny, its like she is constantly in fight or flight mode, a lot of times one directly following the other. She reacts so intensely to every single situation, like murder and theft are always Plan A, its not a healthy way to deal with things.

I am really glad that Ginny and Abbey are hanging out, they are totally right about their "friends" being awful. Especially Max, who is just an insufferable brat, I feel bad for Max's parents. They seem to be pretty nice, but they have the two most obnoxious kids.

You have to take this show in the mindset of Hollywood’s version of an upperclass small town. Of course there’s only one restaurant that everyone goes to and any teen who randomly needs a job gets one there instantly. And of course the Historical Society has incredible museum quality items. That’s how Hollywood thinks small upperclass towns work.

Maxine is exhausting and incredibly self-involved, true, but there’s still something inherently appealing about her. I don’t dislike Marcus the way most here seem to.

I know these are rich kids, but where are they getting all their booze from? They can get weed from dealers, but don’t you have to get booze from a store? Is it that easy in the US?

Most believe that Wellsbury is a fictionalized version of the town of Wellesley, Massachusetts. And, Wellesley's school budget is slightly above $80 million.
