I’m resurrecting this because it is the time of year to do so. Does anyone else wanna join me in thinking that Luther and Nora were being perfectly reasonable and the message of this book is incredibly messed up?

Yup. It reminds me of The Simpsons episode where Lisa converts to Buddhism, and Marge (and the rest of the churchies) try to use Christmas to guilt Lisa back to Christianity…and despite the fact that Lisa did nothing wrong, the end of the episode has her “learning” that she needs to be more tolerant and just shut up and celebrate the holidays regardless of her religious stance. UGH.

Maybe if the neighbors hadn’t been such dicks to Luther and Nora, I might have been more moved that they help them throw the last minute party at the end, or that Luther gives the cruise tickets to the neighbor with the terminally ill wife. But the neighbors were jerks that quite frankly needed to mind their own business.
