Watched the World Cup at Birmingham All Around and the FIG Apparantus Final in Doha were pretty good. Riley McCusker and Jade Carey both did real well respectively. In Birmingham the beam caused havoc with pretty much everyone. I love all the different ways they mount it. The one that spring board and landed on split? I love both its a great way to see so many different gymnasts. The Doha had two gymnasts from Armenia! I loved seeing the Ukraine gymnast I really miss how great the Ukraine gymnast were. I never stop being amazed at how high the men can go on the high bar and still grab the bar.

Michigan's top court rejects appeal of Nassar sentence

Quote

The Michigan Supreme Court has rejected an appeal by sports doctor Larry Nassar, which means a 40-year prison sentence for assaulting gymnasts will stand.

The Supreme Court's brief order covers the sentence for molesting gymnasts at an Eaton County gym, near Lansing. The court declined to take Nassar's appeal.

Separately, the state appeals court still is reviewing a 40-year sentence handed down in Ingham County. The court is considering whether Nassar's rights were violated by provocative remarks from Judge Rosemarie Aquilina.

The Most Hated Gymnast in the NCAA

What a ridiculous article. Why don’t people like MyKayla Skinner? Well, for me it’s the blatant racism she showed towards Gabby.

And I definitely don’t think she’s a better gymnast than Kyla Ross. Come on.

Tokyo World Cup was good. Sam and Morgan did really well. I still love all the different mounts and dismounts on the beam. Its fun to see different stuff. I felt so bad for the Dutch. Falling twice off the high bar. They both looked like the hurt.  Same with the one who fell of the uneven bars and floor exercise. Ellie from Canada looked great too. It was pretty much between Ellie and Morgan the whole time.

All three were really good. Congrats to Oklahoma and Maggie Nichols! You were so great! To be fair the other three teams did very well too.

I don’t really understand how the new setup works, but I think Jade Carey is going to get the floor/vault specialist spot that MyKayla would be in the running for. I don’t see her making it as one of the four for the team event with how stacked the US is with all-arounders.

The US can earn a 6th spot via the AA World Cup or continental championships which I believe will be PanAm’s. If they had gone this path both spots would have been chosen by the selection committee. If Jade wins a spot but gets injured it goes to the next eligible person not a US gymnast. If Skinner can be one of the top AA girls she has a shot for team and the 2nd individual spot. The test will be how fast she can get her bars/beam back to elite as she’s kept up her floor/vault skills.

Can the people from the team also qualify for event finals? Is there still a two per country rule for ef?

Yes and yes. So, theoretically, a person who qualified individually for an apparatus could get two-pered out by the team gymnasts and not get a shot at a medal.

Olympic gymnastics team sizes return to five for Paris 2024

The Final Five were not the Final Five after all.

Sooooo happy about this. Reducing the men's side to four was absolutely ludicrous given that there are six apparatuses to cover. They need to up the men's side to six and leave the women at five.

On another MAG-related note, Japan had their national championships last week and Kohei did so badly he didn't make it to Day 2 and says he's in so much pain that he thinks his AA plan for 2020 is toast. While devastating, Kakeru Tanigawa, last year's champion, retained his title for the second year in a row and turned in a beautiful performance. I really hope he gets to go to Worlds this year after being benched last year. His older brother is good, but I think Kakeru has him beat on technique.
