I think that was intentional.  She puts up with Sheldon but I can see her taking the opportunity to do something mean to him under the guise of giving him what he wants, and I agree that it was stupid and not funny.

There have been a few episodes involving President Hagemeyer and Sheldon that make it pretty clear she takes any chance she can to stick it to him.  I get that.  He's a royal pain in the ass.  No question.  And I guess it's good that the show is continuing to demonstrate to us exactly why Sheldon Cooper on BBT became what he was, but still, it has bothered me since he started college that the adults there (aside from Dr. Sturgis) have no real interest in mentoring him, they are just using him.

I look at this as a contrast to Billy / football players who struggle with school. Universities use them for their athletic ability and up until recently, the universities didn't really care what their grades were or what sort of education they received.

I like this show and the different personalities everyone brings. I love that Meemaw is a mother/grandmother with her own, active life. She is there for her family but she isn't the tropy old-lady grandmother who drinks tea, and knits, just waiting for the grandkids to visit.

My disappointment with this episode is that Mary didn't pull out a blond wig for some roll-play and instead sprung the baby idea to George. I love seeing this version of Mary and George, I wish it would last.

I don't like the casino storyline because I feel like it just can't end well but that said I totally agree with you about Meemaw.  I remember being really happy in the episode where Mary first goes back to work that Meemaw  makes it crystal clear that she isn't going to become a regular babysitter!

The show has a great opportunity with Mary and Missy. I hope they don't waste it

Spinoff?  I'd probably watch.

If you lived where I live, you'd know how big a deal it is!!  I'm in a non-gambling/lottery state and businesses that run stuff like this do get raided!  Connie is taking a risk by running an illegal gambling site.

Remember from seasons past, Connie has a deal with the local cop.  So that might give her some protection.  She's not just a simple crook, she's bringing government corruption into it too.

It can and will actually hold an adult.

I guess it turns out that they can duct tape Father Zachary to the wall.

She was quite the buzzkill!  She shouldn't have been mad at George's response.  You don't just spring that on your spouse, especially during foreplay!!

I almost wish George had clapped back with, "Well, if you'd have let me take that Oklahoma job, there would've been plenty of money for another baby." That would've quieted her fast.

She wasn't supportive of that job but she never said he couldn't take it.  He went to the interview and decided on his own not to make the move.  If he'd taken it she'd have moved.  I just saw that episode and while she'd have been angry about it I'm sure, there was no indication that she had the final say.

Okay. That could have allowed George to say: "Well, if I'd taken that Oklahoma job, there would've been plenty of money for another baby. But I didn't and there isn't."
And then they could have given each other a comforting kiss, etc. etc.

More like the miscarriage episode.

It was weird.  I could see George being taken totally by surprise about Mary wanting another baby because right up to that moment you are never led to believe Mary was having sex with George for any other reason than because she wanted to!  And now it looks like the happy marriage interlude is over.  I'd hate to think it's because all George wants from Mary is sex.

We definitely saw Mary wanting George for sex in recent episodes.

That's what made that last scene so, well, off.  It didn't really make any sense.  They had been showing Mary loosening up and turning her back a little bit on being the strait-laced uber Christian.  She and George really seemed to be reconnecting.  It was hard on Missy! but fun to watch.  And then this episode seems to have blown that out of the water.  If, in typical Lorre fashion, this is yet another set up to have poor hard done by George "have" to turn to another woman because of his mean wife I will be less than impressed.

I'm guessing she is paying them off on a regular basis, which for the most part means they leave her alone, but during election season they need accomplishments/to look they are doing something and doing it well, so there are raids.

Yes. In fact, as I remember it, Connie did come to an "arrangement" with the local police.

I was not amused by the depiction of abuse, although I preferred it to Dale punching the blackmailer, possibly causing a TBI.

It's not abuse if an asshole gets what he deserves. Sheldon is an asshole.

Bottom line is Sheldon is supposed to be 12 years old.  Those college students were adults.  It was abusive.  Funny, but abusive.

I just took it as a slapstick sight gag. It might have seemed worse if it had been 2 years ago when Iain was actually 12. Funnier than being stuffed in the locker. But everyone to their own views.

As for whether you COULD duct tape a twelve year old or even an adult to the wall -- of course you could. But the victim would have to cooperate, or at least hold pretty still until A LOT of strips were attached. It would take a lot of the students holding a panicked Sheldon against the wall, at least after it was clear what they were doing. Having that many hands on him? He'd be fighting for his life. And tape over his mouth? That would be about the FIRST thing, not the last thing.

As for whether 'Dennis' could track down Connie and Dale... he might not know their names or location but Connie found HIM through "a guy who knows a guy, etc." He should be able to backtrack the same network if he wanted to.

TBH, that dorm seemed way out of control.  At my school we had an RA on each hall, but we had an adult resident director in ech dorm.  That level of out of control would never have happened.  10:00 is early to be going to bed in college, but I think our quiet hours started at 8 or 9.

Agreed.  I went to college in the 90s.  RA's might not tell residents to turn down the music just because it's 10:00 (even if that's the rule), but if someone complained, they would deal with it.  I even knocked on someone's door and asked (nicely) if they could turn down their music.  It wasn't an issue.

It was amusing, but that storyline seemed ridiculously unrealistic.

Mary wanting another kid is plain stupid. They are both unemployed (or under employed) and barley hanging on. But sure, bring a baby into the picture which will suck up any money they have.  Mary should concentrate on the kids she does have and join some community activities that don't revolve around the church.

On 10/28/2022 at 9:16 AM, ams1001 said:

They also don't have enough bedrooms for the kids they have living there. Even if Georgie moved out, you can't exactly have a 12-year-old living in an unfinished garage.

It's bad enough that Georgie is living there-if he hadn't dropped out of school, would he be sharing with Sheldon?

And totally unbelievable that Mary would gladly and easily let him stay at the dorm of a couple of days.

It's as though she has lost interest in her current children.  She's probably really depressed, and thinks that a new baby will fix things.

Not to mention she’s about to have a grandchild, so maybe now is not the best time to bring another child into the world judg because you’re bored!

A grandchild in whom she seems strangely disinterested.  She could be going to yard sales to find a crib, a stroller, and some starter clothes.  She could be bonding with the mother of her future grandchild!

Mary and George were trying to be responsible about it. They are a married couple. They are allowed to hug and kiss in front of their kids. Also, they kept the more intimate activities confined to the bedroom with the door closed, and at times when Missy was out of the house or supposed to be out of the house. Young teenagers are often grossed out by the idea of their parents having sex, but that's something Missy has to deal with it. I have no problem with what Mary and George did.

I was pretty surprised that Mary asked Missy how she thought she got there.  That's refreshingly plain-spoken for her.  (Although with the Mandy/Georgie situation, I guess there's no point in avoiding the subject.)

Making Sheldon the RA was the dumbest thing this series has done so far. Even the set-up was stupid, because Sheldon would have had 8 AM classes all semester. He is on a very regular schedule. For this incredibly stupid plotline to get rolling, they would have needed to start it with Sheldon being on campus late the night before for an event, or he found out about an 8 AM event and wanted to attend.

Maybe Sheldon keeps a set of clothes in his dorm in case of emergency.

To the first point, I thought the same.  Why not have Sheldon say that that his 9 am class was starting at 8 am tomorrow for whatever reason?

To the second point, he has pajamas, so he definitely has a change of clothes, but I would be surprised if he had two changes, and as I said earlier, he's definitely not the kind of person who would re-wear his underwear.  We didn't even see him ask Mary about staying the 2nd night, but he needed to for the RA plot point to work, so he did.

I think the same thing would have happened even if Georgie had stayed in school. Sheldon and Georgie would not be able to share a room, so I think the current living arrangement would have happened even if Georgie had stayed in school.

This season is making me literally hate everybody.

Every single main character is either completely obnoxious (Sheldon, Memaw, Mandy, Missy) or clueless beyond belief (George, Mary, Georgie, Dale).

Mandy didn't have to go through with the pregnancy.  She's so vicious and angry.  And yeah, Georgie is stupid to act as if they have a relationship, but he's stupid!  What do they expect?  Missy is taking the grossed-out-cause-mom-and-dad-kiss thing way too far.  We GET it.  Now STFU and watch thee damn movie.

And why can't gambling machine dude Dennis just call the cops & report his machines stolen by Memaw & Dale?  He followed them for miles, he obviously got their plate number, as he noticed it was Texas.  He could have said he tried chasing them, but had car trouble.  It would be his word against 2 people with video poker machines in their truck, heading to a state where they are illegal, and NO sales receipt for them.

Sheldon is just.....way too much.  Big George annoys me the least, but how idiotic not to notice his wife's 180 degree behavior change & not be suspicious?

I may just tap out.  I just can't see how this shit can be saved.

Sheldon does learn from experience, especially humiliating experience. Remember on Registration Day (?) when all his clothes were ruined and he even had to duct tape the front of his pants? He would NEVER let that happen again. He'd have emergency spares of everything - and probably multiple spares.

Agreed.  I don't think Georgie sees it as any kind of punishment anyway - even if that was what George intended (or was it?  I can't remember how it all came about now) anyhow Georgie is just fine in the garage.  He even has his own sink/toilet!

We're probably giving this way more thought than the writers did, but let's face it, Dennis probably has good reasons of his own for not wanting to involve the authorities.  He got his money, he was just greedy.  I doubt very much he's prepared to push things beyond this.

I’m guessing there was something legally hinky about how Dennis acquired the poker machines——but not obviously enough illegal for Dale and Meemaw to have reverse-threatened him.

I hope he has a third pair, because since they put duct tape over his mouth, he's not going to be able to tell anyone when he has to use the bathroom, and it's going to be messy. (That is the first thing I thought of after his mouth was covered.)

I missed this episode the first time through, so ...

Wouldn't an RA have access to campus security for occasions like this? A drunk collage athlete could be unmanageable even for a single adult.

If he did he would have complained vociferously to President Hagemeyer about it. Sheldon plans ahead; if he had pajamas, he would have had other complete changes of clothes.

Not to quibble, but I doubt that Sheldon was raised to change his PJs every night, but new underwear every morning would be non-negotiable. So, 1 set of PJs could work for a few nights.
