Will Trent is a crime drama TV Series airing on ABC on January 3, 2023 at 10pm, based on a book series by Karin Slaughter.

I am not sure if Will Trent will be brought in on to solve near impossible-to-solve police cases or if the show is about the foster care system?

Special Agent Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigations, who was abandoned at birth and endured a harsh coming of age in Atlanta’s overwhelmed foster care system. Ramón Rodríguez as Will Trent, a gifted GBI agent and a loner within the law-enforcement community who hides the severe dyslexia that went untreated during his traumatic childhood in foster care. But with the Bureau’s best clearance rate, he couldn’t care less if people don’t like him.

Erika Christensen plays Angie Polaski, a detective with the Atlanta Police Department who has seen it all but still can crack jokes about the bleak world of being a cop. She’s also Will’s on-again-off-again girlfriend. Friends with Will since they were both kids at a group foster home, they always helped take care of each other. Angie struggles with addiction and has yet to confront the dark traumas of her childhood.

Jake McLaughlin plays Michael Ormewood, who was raised upper-middle class in the Atlanta suburbs and served overseas in the Army until an injury sent him home, where he’s now a Detective with the APD. He has the vibe of a man who grew up watching tough-guy, anti-hero cops and now is excited to be one himself. Michael has a wife and kid at home, but you’d never know it by talking to him.

Iantha Richardson as Faith Mitchell, Will’s partner. Faith was born into a law-enforcement family, is armed with wicked wit and always considered herself one of the boys, then got pregnant at 14. But now she’s pulled her life together to become a Detective. Faith’s new assignment with Will is going to be her biggest challenge yet, but she’s up for it, and she knows it could be a shortcut to becoming one of the top agents at the GBI.

Sonja Sohn will play Amanda Wagner, the head of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Will’s boss, she’s coldly competent and always camera ready for a press conference. Climbing the ranks at the GBI has made Amanda a real ball-buster, but she has a mysterious soft spot for Will.

That's a big no on all of the casting.

The books are about neither. It's just Will and Faith solving cases.

The first book doesn't have Faith in it.

The second book doesn't have Ornewood in it for spoiler reasons.

Angie is also not a main character after the first book except for around book 5.

The first book setup which they seem to be going with has little to do with the rest of the books.

Eh, what mystery/detective series follows the books that closely though?  Rizzoli and Isles, Bones, and even classic series like Perry Mason and not so classic like Mike Hammer didn't follow the tones/characters/places as laid out in the books.
