I'm giving myself:

Week 31: 1/5
for Thursday's Easter Island, although, to be  honest, I can only say it was my last thought before the Think Music stopped.

My 2 previous weeks were 0s, and it's been a discouraging week in general, in spite of the the warmer weather, so I'm taking my 1 FJ "win."

However: If anyone else has 3 weeks of Zeros, I will change mine to a third zero too.

2/5, Monday and Thursday. Was relieved to get Monday; after last week's shutout, at least that wouldn't happen again! Do I get half a star for Nelson Mandela? At least I knew he wasn't from Germany!

No Official half stars here — at least not for this and previous seasons.

But you and I should be encouraged by getting halfway there. My second for that 2-parter was Albert Schweitzer, who did win the Nobel Peace Prize for his work primarily in Africa.
Still, when I heard Desmond Tutu’s name, I was pretty embarrassed.

4/5 with no * - I got stuck on Mandela and then debating whether Ghandi had ever won a Nobel Prize so never made it to Tutu.

Several lucky guesses this week but will take the answers however they make it to my brain.

4/5 with 1*. I missed the 8th Amendment, which makes me, a former criminal lawyer, hang my head in shame.

Hi, My name is DankeSean and apparently I'm Good Queen Jane in disguise, because my results were the same as hers, right down to getting the same question wrong.

But just to make it official: Week 31, 4/5, with the *.

Despite Devin's surge, Deb had such a steadily increasing trajectory I thought for sure they were going to repeat.  I don't think I understand their FJ wager, so I checked the archive's wager calculator and, indeed, the note for Ben is "There's no way you can cover a rational wager by Deb, but if Deb decides for some reason to wager everything ..."  Devin also betting it all was unexpected as well.

I was a bit surprised no one guessed tobacco.

I ran doc and proud, and got all but one in books, museum and olive.  I missed two in TV (cultural osmosis comes through at least partially, as I don't watch any of the shows).

It got worse in DJ.  I didn't run a damn thing.  I got all but one in Europe, anagrams, and Justinian (I knew the Hagia Sophia, but couldn't get it from brain to mouth in time) and missed two in music.  But I missed three in movies (cultural osmosis was not with me this time; I only got the two - Clueless and Monty Python and the Holy Grail - I've seen) and, embarrassingly, everything but Celebrity Deathmatch in matches.  I was surprised when that came out of my mouth, as I wasn't aware it was in my brain, but then I remembered they did an X-Files episode and that's how I'd seen it (I watched anything and everything XF back in the day).

Based on the category, I figured FJ was going to be a whiff, but I know the line "Hope is a thing with feathers that perches in the soul" well, so it wound up being an instaget.

Week 32 – April 17, 2023 - ** Two Asterisks

142.     English Literature - It says, "The mind is its own place, & in itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven. What matter where, if I be still the same"

143.     The Oscars - Born in 1932 & the son of a percussionist in the CBS Radio Orchestra, he's been nominated for 53 Oscars

144.*   Lives of the Poets - At a seminary that classified students' degree of faith, Emily Dickinson was "without" this, which she compares to a bird in a poem

145*.   Modern Words - Neal Stephenson coined this word in his 1992 novel "Snow Crash"; it was later shortened by a company to become its new name

146.     Historic Groups - Originally a term for security escorts for commanders, in 27 B.C. this group was designated an official imperial force

By my count it's actually Week 32, not 33. Is that right?

Maybe we should pass them around?

3/5 with 2*.

Not only that, but I did know the other two. On Monday I said Lucifer in that epic by Milton but could not come up with title and for Friday I said Praetorian Guard (thank you, The Mandalorian) but changed to “Centurion” at the last minute (Boo! Hiss!) Nonetheless, I feel good about myself, so champagne and truffles for everyone! My treat!

Are they offended that nobody got it?

They're complaining that it was "impossible" or whatever. (This was an article from Parade. Another prestigious publication like the US Sun, apparently.)

2/5 with a * for Wednesday.

That Meta clue was a bit unfair, considering nobody calls Facebook by that name. It still comes up as Facebook, and the search engine on the page itself still says 'Search Facebook'. It doesn't say Meta anywhere (except on the bottom in small print). I say boo on that clue.

The social media site is still Facebook; the parent company is Meta (which also owns Instagram, WhatsApp, and other stuff).

Looking at FJ clues…  I’d say 25% (being generous) I know. Another 25%, I have some idea what they’re talking about, but can’t dredge up the right response. The remaining 50% are “impossible” for me. I’m not sure whether to be flattered or offended when the internet seems to agree that something I happen to know is somehow “unknowable” to “everyone”.

And Parade used to be the little tab that came in the Sunday paper with heartwarming celebrity stories and ads for collectibles and comfy clothes. When did they become just another click bait site?!?

To be clear, I’m not yelling at you, @ams1001  Just annoyed that I finally know an answer and the internet thinks I’m some kind of freak.

The “Meta” clue was a perfectly legitimate clue; just because I (and a bunch of Facebook users, apparently) didn’t get it doesn’t mean it’s unfair. I always forget about the rebranding because I think it’s a stupid name, not because it wasn’t well publicized.

Table for 1 again for me. (John Williams)

Only 1 this week, no asterisk. Carrot sticks for all! (or broken off pieces of Kit Kat bars, if you prefer 😉)

Kit Kats, obviously. What a silly question.

My contribution will be the E.T. soundtrack, for dinner music.  I may also bring a bowl of Reese’s Pieces.

Sensing a theme here - anyone up for party sized Snickers?
