This is finally available US Netflix, and I just finished watching.

Really excellent, and it took twists and turns in the last half that I hadn’t expected! Loved that it showed where Fleming got some of Bond inspiration (M, Q, crazy drivers who miss their beloved cars), yet keeps Fleming himself in the background. I was a bit worried when I saw the romantic relationship begin, but it didn’t take over the plot in an egregious way. I do appreciate that they kept the focus on the military objectives, as well as constantly reminding us that Major Martin wasn’t just a construct, but had been a real man with a tragic story of his own. The cast is uniformly terrific, especially the main four of Colin Firth, Matthew MacFadyen, Kelly MacDonald, and Penelope Wilton. Highly recommended viewing!!

I really enjoyed it. I'm only familiar with this story from podcasts and the Clifton Webb movie version. I do feel like I have to do a rewatch to keep track of who's who in intelligence in that part of the film. I did enjoy Matthew's exasperated bit on "another writer?"

Years ago I read the book written by Montagu, so I knew the details of this story pretty well.  On that basis, I found the movie a little bland, and I was hoping for a bit more with all the acting talent on board.  It's not bad, but could have been shorter.

Watched this tonight. It was good. The acting was great pretty much across the board. Although I think I could have done without Colin Firth's I guess crush on Kelly Macdonald and the weird kind of half assed love triangle. Would have rather the whole team just be professionals doing there job really well. They also kind of dropped what happened with Montagu's brother being a possible Russian spy. Like was he actually one, and did he get caught?
