Would someone be able to share (via spoiler tags) the level of dino torture porn compared to Fallen Kingdom. I ugly cried through that one and should have walked out after that scene. On a scale of 1 (OG JP) and 10 (Fallen Kingdom) how much dino torture by humans is there?

Seems like this is getting bad reviews but I enjoyed it.   My theater had a double feature - Jurassic Park followed by Dominion and it was a lot of fun.   Jurassic Park STILL looks good, esp on the big screen.   It was helpful that I saw it because the big bad guy in this one is Dodgson, who was working with Nedry in JP to steal the embryos.  The infamous shaving cream canister even makes an appearance.   There were a LOT of callbacks.

Was Dominion a little long? Yes.  Could they have cut out the snoozy dive into Maisie's back story?  Yes.    The opening montage is of dinos interacting/wreaking havoc in the world and I would have liked more of that.  Don't get me wrong, that kind of thing is scattered throughout the movie, but I wanted more in-depth.  I wondered if scenes were cut to keep the movie from being too dark - the ending is uplifting in an unrealistic way because of this.   I kept worrying about the non-dino animals - what about their food supply?  Etc.  Some species will die off.   That wasn't addressed.  There ARE some unpleasant dino scenes as well non-dino scenes.  I did not like the rabbit/coyote/dino scene.   Not graphic, but not fun to watch.  We visit a black market for dinos where they have them in a fighting pit.  Nothing is zeroed in on for more than a moment, it's our characters walking by, but it's there.

I thought they achieved a really good balance with the OG characters and the newer ones.   Everyone winds up in the same place at different times but for different reasons, so that made sense.   Some of the dino stalking a person scenes were really tense - the one where Claire is crawling away from the dino with feathers is shot from a ground level POV and was very effective.

I liked the new characters (Kayla and Ramsay) and it was great to see Dr. Wu, who's actually feeling some guilt and responsibility.

I was really looking forward to getting Alan/Ellie/Ian back together and that didn't disappoint.  Ian is so much fun and I loved his astonishment at Owen walking around with Beta (Blue's baby) on his back.  Still, the best interactions are the three OG together.

I just realized that they never show what happened to Barry (Owen's friend).  He's arresting a villain but we see that she activates the beacon to make the raptors attack him.  Then we never see either of them again.  Maybe I missed it.

There are plot holes galore - why trust the evil corporation; WHY get off the underground transport instead of waiting to see if it starts up again (this happens more than once);  why are Claire and Owen surprised that Maisie doesn't want to live off the grid forever; what the hell happened to Barry....

Still, I ignored all that because it was fun - lots of dino action, the dino vs man scenes were actually believable and some were tense, some were fun;  the performances were fine (shout out to Jeff Goldblum and BD Wong, who were both good) and the bad guy got his (via callback!)

In the beginning when they showed what Owen and Claire were up to, I didn't think about the fact that they left Maisie on her own during their adventures.  I'm surprised she didn't lose her mind being isolated all the time.

The death of the first mercenary was gruesome, even though no blood was shown.    I liked the minor callback to Jurassic Park when Ian was splayed on the table with his shirt open.  Kayla encouraged him to button up his shirt this time.

I didn't realize the CEO in this one was tied to the first one!  That makes his ending even more apt.

Just because someone's a clone does not mean they will speak with their mother's accent.  Maisie was raised by Americans -- she should have an American accent.  Unless I missed something somewhere in one of the previous movies, of course.  I skipped Fallen Kingdom.

This was mostly fun.  I went primarily to see our original three -- Sam Neill still is hot.  Laura Dern looks fabulous, too, and Jeff Goldblum looks better than he ever has.  At the end, we had far too many characters to keep up with, although I really like the pilot.  She was awesome.  I should have watched the original one before this, I guess, since I didn't catch the connection between Nedry and Dodgson.  I did notice the shaving cream can, but the last time I saw that, it was buried under a pile of mud.  Dodgson's end was quite fitting.

I was happy at least to see that Bryce Dallas Howard was wearing sensible shoes.

Raised by her Grandpa, and a nanny. She was around 10 by the time Claire and Owen ran into her.

Second most buff lead, after Pratt. I don't know if that was for the movie, or just in general.

It was fun and I loved seeing Alan, Ellie, and Ian teaming up again, and later with Claire, Owen, and Maisie as well. Shout out to that Alan/Ellie kiss--finally giving the people what we want after three decades lol. And Henry Wu got his redemption by killing off the giant locusts.

The opening news segment showing humans dealing with a world that now includes dinosaurs was cool. Aww, Blue had a baby! I hadn't considered Claire and Owen would have to hide Maisie's existence from the world, but it makes sense. Also understandable that Maisie would resent having to hide and not being able to go anywhere or do anything. It was sweet that she referred to them as her parents by the end.

All the callbacks to the original were fun, like the shaving cream can and Claire's encounter with the same dino species that got Nedry. And of course the return of Queen Rexie--wouldn't be a JP movie without her. It did end on a happy, hopeful note which I'm not mad at; this is almost certainly the last movie in the franchise so of course it will end with humans and dinos having to coexist.

‘Jurassic World Dominion’ Leaves Big Footprint With $143M+ Opening, Not Far From ‘Fallen Kingdom’s Debut – Sunday Box Office
By Anthony D'Alessandro    June 12, 2022

SUNDAY AM UPDATE: Jurassic World Dominion isn’t going extinct at the box office. The Universal/Amblin sequel saw its Saturday business jump to $46.7M compared to Friday’s actual gross less $18M previews of $41.7M, a 12% climb. This puts the Colin Trevorrow-directed, written and executive produced movie on a course for a $143.37M opening, off 3% from the last film, Fallen Kingdom.

Box Office: ‘Jurassic World Dominion’ Nabs Dino-Mite $143 Million Weekend

Universal and Amblin’s Jurassic World Dominion devoured the competition this weekend, debuting in North America with a $143.37 million domestic launch (including $12.3 million in IMAX). That’s bigger than the $126 million Fri-Sun launch of Top Gun: Maverick (during a $160.5 million Fri-Mon debut) and the $134 million launch of The Batman, coming it just below only Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ($187 million) and Spider-Man: No Way Home ($260 million) among all Covid-era debuts. Moreover, despite a Covid curve and understandable “folks are less curious than they were four years ago” variables, it opened almost on par with Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom ($148 million) in June of 2018. It’s also Universal’s biggest opening since Jurassic World 2 and their fourth-largest debut weekend behind Furious 7 ($147 million in 2015) and the last two Jurassic World movies ($148 million in 2018 and a then-record $209 million in 2015).

She sicced all of the dinos on Owen rather than Barry (either because she was too close to Barry or she was just getting petty revenge against Owen and Claire). So I assume he just took her in without any further trouble.

How DID Dodgson manage to retrieve that can, anyways? I can't imagine he got it in time for the embryos to have still been viable (the can would preserve them for 2-3 days IIRC). I wonder if he just kept it around to remind himself to be the same ruthless bastard he was nearly 30 years ago. Definitely fitting that he was taken out the same way as Nedry.

I'm not upset about it, but I am a bit surprised that with such a large group by the end, all the good guys survived (aside from Barry's teammates).

Eh. It was OK. Full disclosure, I've never seen more than 20 minutes of the Howard/Pratt versions, so I was completely uninvested in them. The OG JP was brilliant in its use of psychological scares, it didn't need something blowing up every minute to be an incredible action flick. This could have used about 100% more Ian Malcolm one liners ("think they'll have that on the tour?"). I did laugh at the shirt buttoning, and Laura Dern was wearing a 2022 version of her 1993 outfit (khakis, orange shirt, blue undershirt). Also, Beta was cute.

This reminded me, probably the best moment of the movie, which wasn't even part of the movie. In my theater after the previews when they usually do one last advertisement for the theater before starting the movie, the sound was working but there was no picture. As someone realized and stopped the audio to quickly correct the issue, while we were all briefly sitting and waiting in the dark someone in the audience yelled out "Uhh, there will be dinosaurs... in this dinosaur movie?"

Probably says a lot that that was one of the highlights.

Add me to the Eh group.

Not enough Queenie for me. And it looks like that early trailer was

not part of this movie because well n dinosaurs in the city or States. So was it a mishmash from II?

There were a couple of times when I jumped, but overall, I kept waiting and waiting for Queenie. Didn’t give any shits about the locusts. I wanted to see that one Dino from the previous movie that kept ramming its head/horn like a billy goat or ram? He was hilarious. But no sign.

I would have much preferred to see more of Ellie, Ian, and Alan, than the Malta scenes.

Not sure if I need to keep spoiler tagging, but the sekrit about Maisey? Had me me 🙄 and thinking, of course she is.

I just want to know the science behind her mother being able to get pregnant with her without doing it the old fashion way or in vitro, and how did Blue manage to reproduce on her own? I could see this maybe working outside of the body if some type of science had been created that could fertilize an egg without a sperm, then the fertilized egg is implanted in the body. However, I’m not clear on how this process work when done entirely inside the body. Pregnancy without a male species made sense in the original movie when the park was full of females but the amphibian DNA used when engineering the dinosaurs allowed some to change genders and thus could mate with the females in the park. In this movie Blue was apparently on her own with no male suitors but still managed to get pregnant on her own. How?

We saw this movie yesterday. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t  great either. It was definitely better than the previous installment. It was nice seeing Ian, Allan and Ellie again. It would’ve been cool to hear what Malcom’s daughter, Kelly, was up to these days. We didn’t need to see her, but it would’ve been a nice call back if Malcolm mentioned her when briefly talking about his 5 kids. Speaking of which, he said he needed to keep working due to the kids. Surely he was joking. It’s been nearly 30 years since the first movie was released. All of his kids should be grown, at least in their 30s, maybe even 40s, and probably have their own families by now. So he’d not need to be worried about child support or even paying for his kids college etc.

Liked the addition of Mamoudou Athie as Ramsey Cole, but the way Dotson was killing folks off who crossed him I was shocked he didn’t take out Ramsey when he learned what he’d done. Honestly the confrontation  between these two was very anti-climatic. They could’ve just had Ramsey escape without revealing his betrayal to Dotson because nothing happened in that scene. I think the former said maybe two words while Dotson expressed his disappointment before Ramsey calmly walked away and Dotson pretty much shrugged off the betrayal and made his escape. The scene was pointless.

At the start of the movie, I feared they’d spend too much time setting up all the characters but thankfully that wasn’t the case. Once the movie got moving it kept me engaged throughout. I will say though, as the movie ended I wondered how many more movies in this franchise are we going to get with the government setting up a sanctuary for the dinosaurs only for some genius to come along and think they have a winning strategy for controlling these animals better than all the individuals before them who tried and are now dead? All of whom who failed miserably at controlling them and most of whom who ended up dead via attack from the very dinosaurs they were trying to control.  This should be the last in the franchise. I don’t know that it will be. But there’s only so many times, after all that’s happened, we can have a movie where someone will try and control and thus make billions off the dinosaurs. And though the call backs to the original movie, which have been included in the sequels have been cool, even they’ve gotten old.

One more thing I wondered, so what happens to the raptors who lose the target they’ve been directed to kill? I’m thinking about those programed to kill Owen, Claire and Barry, but failed. I think at least two of those raptors survived.  Do they just hunt for their target forever, or does the directive eventually wear off?

I enjoyed the movie a lot.  It wasn't perfect, but I liked the appearance of the originals and I liked how the storylines intertwined and the whole group ended up all together.

I do agree that it was very long, and that's probably why it seems like some scenes were truncated since they probably cut some since the movie was already long as it is.  Example, when all of them are together in that control center, one character climbing ladder to platform almost gets eaten.  Escapes.  Next scene... all 10 characters are shown on platform.  I get that there were too many of them to show one by one, but just seemed odd to not show whether there were issues with the rest of them climbing up.

I agree that it did seem odd that one minute Barry is in danger with the digital tracker that Dichen Lachman put on him, then nothing is seen of him or her ever again.  I agree with the comment upthread that stated she shifted the tracker to Owen so all of the raptors followed him instead.  But it would have been nice to have seen what happened to Barry.  And it would have been nice to have seen Dichen actually get arrested and/or eaten.

I am holding out hope that there will be more movies.  I know they said this was the "epic conclusion" but there could still be more movies in the future, considering how well this one is doing at the box office.

I actually suspect Kayla was originally written to be Kelly Malcolm and TPTB changed their minds. Her motivations make a lot more sense if she doesn't like dinosaurs but feels for a young girl in a bad situation. Kelly Malcolm would have very valid reasons not to like dinosaurs. I have heard there were rights issues with her character because she was original to Lost World so maybe that's it. Or that they didn't want to muddle the story by including a character not in the first movie.

This movie felt like it was 2 movies crammed into one even though they both connect in the end. The best stuff was with the Original 3 and the worse stuff was with Owen and Claire. I was disappointed everytime we cut back to them and I didn't care about moody teen daughter. Maisie got better when she met with up Grant and Ellie which is no surprise. Ian was great as always. The only part I liked with Owen was at the end when Blue came back and gave him a smile after returning Beta.

Funny how after all these years the original actors still had chemistry together while Owen and Claire after 3 movies still have none lol. When Alan and Ellie got back together at the end and kissed my theater clapped. That was a fun moment.  The movie was too long and I only cared about half of it lol. Still I'm glad we got the Original gang together again.

Finally saw this last night on demand. Overall, I liked it but mainly because it brought back the original 3. I cheered when I saw Ellie. Loved Ian’s line when he saw Henry, not that guy he’s the reason we are in this mess.

I never thought Claire and Owen had chemistry so I was not invested in their storyline. I couldn’t even bring myself to feel sorry for Maisie because she wouldn’t have gotten kidnapped if she just listened.

I liked the Kayla character and thought she would be revealed to be Ian’s daughter from the 2nd movie, but no. I liked the Ramsey character as well, I knew right away that he was helping Ellie and Alan.

Of course this would have gotten a solid thumbs down if they had really killed Queenie.

I’m ready for this franchise to end though.

Oh, I would have SERIOUSLY cut a BITCH if they had done that. And speaking of which, I just happened to have dreamt I was in a Jurassic movie and unlike the morons in the movies we've seen, I remembered what Alan had said about how Queenie/T-Rex follow hoomans and pressed myself up against the wall and DID.NOT.MOVE. as she came tearing down that hallway, or whatever it was. And I was spared.

Unlike other dreams when I dream that JAWS is about to eat me, and I wake up before it does.

I assume the alternate opening is the prologue that was released about a year before the movie was released. The one that reminded me of the opening to Disney's Dinosaur. I'm too cheap to rent the extended version off Amazon Prime just to see if that's the case, and also don't really feel like sitting through the movie again to see all the other new scenes. Probably cause I honestly would have no idea if they were new or not.

If it follows the pattern of the OT, I'll love it.

I finally watched it last night (and discovered I qualify for free Peacock for a year as a Spectrum customer), and I... LOVED IT!

Ramsey was fantastic. I was worried he was a bad guy for awhile and was thrilled he turned out to be a competent, smart man, making smart choices when he realized what was going on. I'm also glad he didn't try to capture Dodgsen in the server room. Kayla was great, too. She was just getting shit done the way she needed to.

Alan and Ellie still have that spark, and watching Ian pretend to do his thing while telling Ellie what she needs to know and Alan looking perturbed was brilliant, as was Kayla subtly shaking her head at Ian's attempt to be smooth and him re-buttoning his shirt.

I could have done without some of the black-market ring fights and the illegal breeding facility, but overall I dug it. I appreciated the follow-up that the illegal facility had been closed down, along with the poacher being dino-tortured and eaten. Payback is a bitch! I could have used more Queenie. The team effort with Dino-Scissorhands to take out the bigger one was awesome.

Dodgson's end was fitting. I am glad he died and was taken out by the same dinos as Nedry. I loved how beaten down and remorseful Henry was. So much of this was his fault, and I'm always down for a good redemption arc. I wanted to know what his deal was; it almost seemed that he was a hostage instead of a willing participant, though given BioSyn's location, it's not like people can just leave.

What is with this movie and fire? I was instantly stressed out again as the fire locusts lit the facility on fire. What's to stop it from spreading to the containment facility?

All in all, it was a fun romp, and I'll 100% watch it again.

Spoiler

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous season 5, episode 6, "Out of the Pack," offers the explanation for Dodgson having the fateful Barbasol can. The director of BioSyn personally came to Isla Nublar to see a demonstration of Mantah Corp's dinosaur control technology. Dodgson joins Mr. Kon, Kenji, Dr. Mae Turner (Kirby Howell-Baptiste), and their mercenaries on a trek across Isla Nublar, and Lewis just happens to find the Barbasol can buried in the dirt. Recognizing it immediately, Dodgson says, "I haven't seen you in 25 years" and he takes the can, which still contains the long-dead dinosaur embryos, with him. In truth, the moment is utterly contrived since Dodgson randomly stumbles onto the Barbasol can, which was somehow in shallow dirt on the path he was walking on.

It's a clumsy but straightforward explanation for how and why Dodgson has the Barbasol can in Jurassic World Dominion.

In the movie they indicated that they had spliced some lizard's DNA with Blue which allowed her to asexually reproduce. Here's a whole explanation from Wikipedia on parthenogenesis. Blue's offspring would also be female and have the ability as well.

Watched it tonight and thought it was ok, although the whole Morocco sequence was kind of dumb. The dumbest part being if a dinosaur is trying to eat you and you are trapped and have a gun, you should shoot the dinosaur. And speaking of shooting I feel like the dinos in the wild problem would get taken care of pretty fast. Just because there are so many hunters out there who would love to have one as a trophy and the laws and regulations wouldn't be able to catch up fast enough.

Also when Maisie snuck off at the beginning and saw the brontosaurus at that logging operation, I really thought they were going to reveal a Fred Flintstone kind of thing like how the workers were going to be using it to move logs.

Yeah, T-rexes are about the size of an African elephant. There are actually commercially-available personal firearms that can take care of that sort of game if you can shoot steady while soiling yourself. The mososaurus would be a bigger problem, but there's only one of it (and packs of orcas have hunted and killed blue whales, so it's not guaranteed to become king of the seas). These are just large predatory animals, not Godzilla-style kaiju. The mutant locusts would be the much bigger threat, because they breed quickly and devastate crops.

Yea I feel like there are a ton of hunters out there who would love a triceratops or raptor head on their wall or a brontosaurus foot garbage can. And it would take awhile before there were any kind of hunting regulations with respect to dinos. And I can see a lot of hunters thinking it's ok because they can just clone more. Hell humans have made other animals extinct without even really trying. Taking care of the wild dinosaurs wouldn't be that difficult.

And yes the whole idea that dinosaurs are indestructible, fearless killing machines that will hunt humans no matter what the obstacle and can run as fast as a plane taking off was silly. Although the feathered dinos did look super creepy.

And yes the whole idea that dinosaurs are indestructible, fearless killing machines that will hunt humans no matter what the obstacle and can run as fast as a plane taking off was silly. Although the feathered dinos did look super creepy.

Yes. There’s an ecological disaster if humans were just another species of big mammal, and not the dominant species on the planet with access to fire arms. There aren’t THAT many dinosaurs- or course their presence would be destructive for a while but within a month I believe they would be been hunted down for sport by rich people with access to guns and traps. Either to just kill them for trophies or keep one as an oddity.

I am so glad that the movie didn't focus on that aspect of it. They briefly touched on the poachers but I, for one, didn't need to see them posting "trophies" on walls.

Interesting. I recall seeing something about a new TV (or streaming) series. NGL, as long as there isn't dinosaur torture porn (looking at YOU Fallen Kingdom) I'll watch it.

Interesting that I just read this-I watched the second to Fallen Kingdom yesterday. I also will not lie-I fast forwarded all the torture scenes and cheered when Wills got chomped! chomped! by Queenie!

I'm not sure I want to watch the last one because there wasn't enough Queenie, and mostly about the locusts or whatever that shit was.

I may just go back to watching the first again; no matter how fucking annoying I found Alex.

love Dominion but the extended cut, not the regular one. I've watched it probably a dozen times (streaming, not in the theater).

Hah! I watched the extended cut last night. I think it had that one fight scene with the dinos where the one seemingly harmless looking one

chopped off the neck

of its opponent? And I think that poacher getting his just desserts was in the extended, cuz I don't recall it from the theatrical version I watched! And did my eyes deceive me that there were three T-Rexs at the end?

All that said, Maisie still annoys the ever living heck out of me.
