I was really surprised by Kylie... she was such a whiner last time they talked.  Kelli has little sympathy for that and sees it as a weakness, IMO.  I thought she either has a really good GL who told her to play to her strengths or she came up with that "let me show you what I can do in show group" on her own.... either way Kelli will remember that and respect that if she tries out again.  But yeah, no power so not going to happen this round.  :(

I'm appreciating the focus on more dancing.   Liked the more in-depth look at teaching the kick line too.  Missed the last 15 minutes and will watch it with coffee in the morning.  Even though I already "know" I cannot remember who if anyone was cut.  P.S. not getting close enough to any roach to stomp it either.  Give me a spider any day.

Can I tell you my story of woe?  I am out of town, and taking my time drinking a glass of wine at the hotel bar and GUESS WHAT?  I missed all but the last 15 minutes of DCC.  I had NO IDEA that Marriott carries CMT.  This hotel just went up two notches in my book!  Have to wait until Sunday, grr.  only plus, the wine was good!

I loved seeing the work on kicks, and the kickline.   Also, when they were learning the jump split, seeing the mechanics of how it works was really interesting.      However, seeing someone screw up the kickline and knowing what a missed timing can do to another dancer is scary.

I lived in the windy Southwest for a long time, so seeing the windy conditions was so familiar.      I liked how they showed the entrance to the field, and some of the secrets to doing it correctly.   Some improved so much.

Haven't seen the episode. Just the few clips they showed on Instagram of the kick clinic.

Was Robin there?

I thought I saw someone with black curly hair in the back with a blue shirt on.

Kelli should definitely have cut at least one more person.  She's still 5 over at 6 weeks?  Inexcusable.  There's no way Ashley should still be a candidate, IMO.

Who's the lady with the three names who's a recruiter for the Dallas Cowboys?  Kelli better watch out.  This woman is very comfortable on camera.

Where is Melissa Rycroft?  I know many of you don't like her, but I love seeing her helping out the girls.

I think this might be my favorite season. I feel that the talent of these girls is so high. Most of them, with the exception of Ava, seem mature and capable even when getting cut. The difference of the quality of the rookies was apparent doing the across the field - compared to the struggles of previous years.

i feel with the obvious exception of Hannah the vets cut last year would have struggled. Someone like Brennan is just not on their level.

She is the other Shelly on staff. If you look at past seasons, she's a kick specialist and you see her often in the background. I forgot what season they featured her in a kick segment.  She's also a former DCC.

A "50 yard line on a football field " moment to an interview question -

"CA does not have (those) roaches".....

Do they go by a different name ? I surely wouldn't want to speak to what bugs an entire state does or does not have...

{photo added in case roaches are MIA in other areas}

I found it puzzling they would cut both Jordann and Kylie before Ashley. We rarely saw a bad clip of Jordann, she just wasn’t standing out to the judges. Kylie seems to have almost all the pieces there and likely showed improvement during camp, while Ashley has seemed unpolished and out of her league the entire 6 weeks.

But if K&J have one consistency, it is that they are highly inconsistent with their professed standards and cuts every single season. So 🤷‍♀️

Yeah, that was kind of silly. With all the homeless camps and garbage in the streets, of course they have roaches!

Kelly's foot must have healed quickly. She went from a boot to strappy sandals.

I also liked all the dance focus this week. And I liked that the camera highlighted the mistakes - other than the ones we could see ourselves, like Ashley being halfway down the field when her line was supposed to be on the 10 yard line! Couldn't she use any peripheral vision to keep the person next to her in her line of sight?

It seemed to me that there were several girls with low kicks this year.

I caught a glimpse of Kat, but am really surprised that she is barely shown at all.

K & J have a really hard time cutting the pretty ones.  They put Kaitlyn LaRae on the team because she was so pretty.  They kept NY Brianna for a long time because she was also so pretty.  Ashley is absolutely beautiful and she's tall, which Judy likes.

I wonder if Ashley's height is her issue.  She's probably much taller than all her friends and is used to slouching and not fully extending her arms in a self-conscious attempt to disguise her height.  My son is considerably taller than all of his friends and he took to ducking to disguise his height.  OK for my son (not really, but you know what I mean), not OK for a dancer.  Gotta have that full extension.

I really wish they would have a camera at the end of the line (pointed going down the kickline), so the TCC can see whose kicks are low m(left leg vs. right leg), leg that snap down too slow to fast, whose arms are not where they should be on the end pose..

not sure how to gage and demo to see the "energy in their feet"...

Then replay the footage so they can see. Where is Mellissa R , when you need her ?

Still trying to figure out if kick camp was a 1-2 day event, graded on a pass/fail scale.. I do like the idea though..

Judy's "1,2,3,LINE".. is now a duet with Kelli saying the "LINE"...🤣.. Kelli don't take the one job aspect that Judy seems to want to hold onto...let her have her day...

I don't think so. If it was Robin - I think they would have given a retired DCC an introduction and most likely they would be in non-athletic attire. And she wouldn't be streching hamstrings.  I think that was Armani.

sounded like Kyllie was focused on making show group and not the team...surely she known that making the team has to be the priority...

Job responsibility  update: Tissue box monitor - get a bigger box... Kyllie emptied the box.. I know its hard due to supply and K&J keep moving around the stadium, for some unknown reason..  I like them better in the locker room..

I interpreted that as if they thought she was good enough for show group, that would help her make the team. I didn't see it as just trying to get on show group. Do they have people who are only on show group and not on the full team?

I don't think so. I'm trying to think of a rookie whose show group audition helped K&J lock them onto the team...

I was going by when Kyllie said she spends 3-4 hours practicing the show group routines.. I was wondering how much did she spend on everything else - like the side line dances..

Everyone is required to learn all of the show group dances regardless of whether they wanted to be considered for show group or not. It is another evaluation night where Kylie could show that she is making improvement in all the dances, not just the show group dances. They also perform thunder during show group auditions. She could have actually been saying to K&J Hey, I would rather be focusing on the sideline dances since I don't even want to be considered for show group, but since I HAVE to learn these dances, I want to show you that plus the other dances we have been learning to show you that I belong not on show group, but on the team.

I disliked some of the camera work--where they would close up focus on a rookie who was apparently messing up but since I can't see other rookies to compare/contrast, it was kind of pointless to me.

If I were me, I would want to have some extra people as long as possible--i.e. what if candidate X seems to fix an issue but 2 practices later she's back to messing that up? and maybe the person you are cutting today would have improved enough to be a better choice than candidate X? just my way of thinking. I'd have to cut 3-4 on the last night.

Did anyone else feel like Jordann’s cut was about weight but was edited to avoid directly showing them saying that?

Ashley is cute but her kicks are barely above waist level AND she lacks power and precision. She’s not ready, and she’s not really even close to being ready. There’s no reason to keep stringing her along at this point. For me, Ashley, Christina, and Presley would be no-brainer cuts and would have all been gone before Kylie.

Kickline, IMO, should be a larger part of preliminary eliminations. People who can’t kick to DCC standards shouldn’t even be brought into training camp. It’s not a secret that kicks are a DCC requirement, and if I were Kelli or Judy, I would feel that people who show up unable to kick are choosing to show up unprepared.

I agree part of Jordann's cut was "weight" or rather lack of body tone. Otherwise, I agree her issues were very coachable. Was interested to find she's from the town where my son lives...

Kylie isn't ready, as much as I like her, I hope she comes back strong next season.

Ashley W needs to go...and should already be gone.

I agree that this episode was filler. Bring on the makeovers!

I thought it was interesting to see certain veterans in the kick clinic. At first I though they were there to help the rookies, but it seemed like they were there because they need to improve, too (with the exception of Armani, who was at the front of the room). I noticed Elli, Taylor, and Marissa. Anyone else?

Yeah, I wish they had explained why some 2nd year vets were there.  I was wondering if it was because the 2nd year girls hadn't really done the full kick line routine?  (Since they were not hooked up during the 2020 season and no jump split.)  Or maybe helping out?  It seemed like they would specifically put a TCC in between the second year candidates.

And yes, Shelly McCaslin has been on staff for a while.  We saw her lead a kickline rehearsal, I'm pretty sure that was in season 7.  And we've seen her in the background of rehearsals, I remember they had her give Caila a pep talk during a pre-game rehearsal when she was messing up really bad.  I think she also helps with scouting/recruiting.

YES!!! It kills me that they will not mention weight anymore!!! Honestly, Jordan may not have made if it to training camp if they had normal preliminary, semi's and finals auditions. Judges would have said too soft... Beautiful dancer, she should tone up and lean out and definitely try again

They need to cut the cord with Ashley, she's obviously behind the curve and has not improved.

Yes! I’ve been wondering if they would mention that. I thought Jordann was very pretty but did need to tone up for DCC standards. I agree everything she needs to work on is doable and I hope she comes back.

Could they have been there to have a benchmark for the newbies to kick against ?  Or maybe they are the vets closest in height so they can line up better while at the clinic ?

What is the name of the song  they use when the girls are learning traveling across the field? It's been used for the last few seasons. There's a line that says something about Christmas candy.

Is anyone else getting major Kashara vibes from Kleine?

1. Both get told that they make technical mistakes, but are fun to watch

2. Both have spunky personalities

3. Both are blonde and from Kentucky

I agree that it seems like they favor Ashley over Kylie and Jordan and some of the cut TCC. I have to say I totally get it though, Ashley is beautiful, confident but not arrogant and a smart dancer. I was really impressed with her episode 5 office visit when she was like "I'm working with Gina for articulation, Ashlee for style, and Jada for power."

I feel like they're giving her as long as possible in training camp so that she can either improve to the point where she makes the team this year or learn as much as possible to be prepared going into training camp next year.

Yeah, I'm loving how they're actually showing full routines this year (instead of repeating the same couple of 8 counts for a scene). But especially this episode, I noticed that they would focus in on only one rookie at a time which was kind of disorienting.

Interesting, I keep going back and forth on whether the vets were there to improve or help the rookies. Marissa and Chandi were on show group last year and Taylor is a 4th year vet, so at this point, I would think that their kicks should be fine. Is there anything in how they were kicking that indicated that the vets at the clinic are weak kickers?

It's  called "Move" by Little Mix.

I feel like they're doing a better job this year of using the right songs for choreo. If I never have to hear Pitbull again, I'll be so happy lol

No, they don't have show group only members.

I do think people see making show group as a safety net. You make show group, you made the team unless you royally eff something up, as in the Holly/Jenna/Erica/Chelsea type situations -- and, yes, I know Holly quit on her own & Jenna stayed, but they were very close to being cut & may have been if Holly hadn't quit & Jenna hadn't straightened up. I don't remember if Erica & Chelsea were even on show group, but I believe their situations would have gotten them cut anyway.

Being cut after making show group is rare. Has it ever even happened (not counting anyone who royally effed up)?

Add in a few people chanting “Up to go down, and down to go up…”  and a few “Shut the car door…shut the car door…” and you’ve got DCC Acapella!

I am really disappointed that they cut Kylie. Not because I think she's ready, because she's not. But I think she can get there.

She has a beautiful fresh look about her, a true natural beauty, and a great little figure. Just what the team desperately needs right now.

Why couldn't they cut Megan or Jensen, neither of whom I could pick out in a crowd? Total blenders.

I think I remember Sunni making show group her first year out in Season 3 and then she was cut very late in camp, it might have been the second to last night.

Sometimes Kelli picks someone she wants who is close to making the team and Judy just has to deal with them in the season.  Other times I think they really like someone and decide to keep them as long as possible in training camp not because they are going to "make it" but because they want them to have the longest practice/opportunity with them to make it the next year.  I remember them doing this with Alexandra? who was a beautiful AA schoolteacher who had total package but was slow to learn choreo.  I wonder if this is what they are doing with Ashlee perhaps?
