Someone upthread attributed Kody's overt anger to financial troubles.  I'm sorry that I can't find the post, because the poster was insightful.

Kody and Robyn took out the emergency $150,000 HELOC on March 20, 2020, around the start of the quarantine.  He's seeing the ramifications of his lifetime of bad decisions and has nothing to distract him.  So, he lashes out at the OG wives.  And to top it off, Robyn starts to nag him about the brown-haired spirit baby who's been hanging around, waiting for her to bring him into the world.

Not even Kody had that set-up for his Plyg Palace dissertation.

He had color printed, bound presentation packets.

I loathe Kody with the fire of a thousand suns. He is a lousy husband, a worse father and a piss poor excuse for a human being. The scene with Ysabel enraged me First of all, why do these children have no health insurance until five months ago? So has Ysabel's scoliosis been untreated this whole time because Kody can't or won't provide medical treatment for his children? Her spine didn't go from straight to a 50 degree angle overnight. Then his suggestions that she suffer in pain for another six months or go for surgery alone? He has no right to even think of himself as a father.

My daughter has a serious medical condition. There is treatment here but the option with the greatest likelihood of success was multiple states away. We figured it out. We were as safe as we could be and fortunately, no one got COVID. But we didn't just send her off on her own (she is Ysabel's age) and we didn't tell her to just suffer for another six months. This is what parents do for children they love.

I honestly don't know what is wrong with Meri, encouraging Christine to stay. Kody is a horrible, abusive, absent father and husband. Christine should leave and go to Utah to be with people who will actively love and support her and her remaining minor children. Shit -I'd contribute to a GoFundMe to get her out of there. I actually feel a little dirty and responsible for watching, given that eyeballs on this trainwreck of a show translate to ad revenue that keeps it on the air.

And then the other wives just sit there on their lot, stony-faced as she cries and bares her pain.

I didn't get Janelle's ire at the notion that Christine wants to return to Utah to be close to her kids. Why would that be a bad thing? Many people move to be closer to adult children and grandchildren and as someone pointed out, there seems to be a greater mass of them in Utah than anywhere else. And isn't there rural space in Utah? Is Janelle necessarily sentenced to life in the 'burbs if they go to Utah?

I think soon it won't matter where they want to live because they are going to have to choose whichever homes aren't foreclosed and those with generous landlords who forgive the rent. I guess they can all live and work at Lizzie's Heritage Inn, like some sort of discontented polygamous commune...

I think his end goal is to be a monogamist with Robyn, and have all three of those other battle-axes leave him the heck alone so he can go to his celestial planet and tell the person in charge of planets: "Look, I tried!  I had four wives but three of them bailed on me!  It's not my fault, they hated each other and also, who has time for all that nonsense and hormones?  They made my life miserable!  Their kids weren't much better, always wanting time, time and more time - there's only one of me, you get it?  I tried to make them understand how hard my life was with all of them bugging the ever-loving crap outta me but women!  Amirite?  So THEY left ME!  But you're still gonna let me and Robyn onto Planet Kody, right?  Right?  Hey!!  Wait - noooooooooooooo don't shoot me into outer spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace.............."

I think you have to have three+ wives to get your own planet, though. I wish I were kidding.

It's particularly hypocritical of Meri, since she was ready to bolt when she thought she was deep in a relationship with another man. Where was all of this "never quit, we've put 30 years into this, I'm never leaving" thoughtline when she was close enough to leaving that she probably had a bag packed? I guess she is feeling that misery loves company so if she has to stay, everyone has to stay.

I think Meri’s reaction is classic.  She tried to free herself and look how much worse her life is now. She’s never going to try to leave again. Perhaps she doesn’t want Christine to suffer Kody absolutely cutting her out. Also, losing Christine could mean losing access to Christine’s kids. I know Meri is extra close to Ysabel, where Ysabel had her own room in Meri’s LV house, and also claimed a room in Meri’s failed AZ rental.

If TLC were to choose between following Christine, her kids & her mom in Utah in a 'Life after Polygamy' spin off or follow Kootie, Robyn, Janelle & Meri and their boring leftover kids in Flagstaff, which would you rather watch?

I don’t mean to be hyperbolic, I truly don’t, but that scene with Meri was creepy/alarming to me. It reminded me of the classic situations where the older FLDS women or other cult members who have been fully indoctrinated actually work to keep the other victims in - just as the other wives did when Meri tried to escape via the catfish. Part of me is angry at her and part of me is just horrified that even with all the money and without living in Utah for years, they seem to be fully indoctrinated within the Cult of Kody.

If Christine leaves, it makes them all look bad for staying - especially Meri, who’s treated just as poorly as Christine is. So I’m guessing it’s some sort of psychological thing where she has to “prove” the rightness of her own decision by encouraging other victims to make the same one?

I haven't read any comments yet, but let me just say this: Kody's gleeful excitement at Christine being shot down about moving to Utah because "I'm not the bad guy!" and his denial that they had discussed it made me see RED.  Add to that his total disregard for Ysabel's pain and need for surgery (but why New Jersey? There are certainly many surgeons who could do the procedure closer) just made me realize what a scumbag he is. And then the other wives just sit there on their lot, stony-faced as she cries and bares her pain. I really feel for her.  She needs to just go.  Sadly, she has no way to support herself or do this move on her own.

THEN... he blames Christine for "not even trying"?? Ugh. He disgusts me.

He literally was setting her up! He really seems to enjoy abusing Meri and Christine equally but in different ways.

and yeah, how can they just sit there and not offer any comfort?!?! Have they just been taught via Kody that it’s a punishable offense to comfort their sister wives if it makes him look bad?

My son had the same scoliosis surgery.   We were counseled that it is a major surgery and to be prepared.   He needed multiple blood transfusions and was in the ICU due to a complication.  Only a monster in his position would say to go it alone.  Also, if it’s past 50 degrees curvature, it runs the risk of damaging other organs as it shifts.  We were also warned about that.

Thank you for sharing your first hand knowledge.  Hope your son is doing well. ❤️

Did anyone else catch Janelle say to Kody, “you’ve hardly been here these last five months.”  And then Christine comment later in the episode that a few hours a week isn’t enough time with Kody. This guy is really 24/7 with Robyn isn’t he?

Who here believes that Kody still stopped by Janelle’s house and visited his older children when Janelle left and spent time in North Carolina with Maddie?

On the show Christine said Ysabel didn’t have insurance and it took a long time to get it.  I thought, wow, those kids don’t have insurance?  Then I read that the insurance didn’t cover the surgery.  Could that be possible, why wouldn’t this be covered?

there is no reason insurance wouldn't cover it: severe scoliosis can cause long-term health issues: chronic pain, deformity, and damage to internal organs.  I think they just weren't insured for a very long time. I don't see much income (except from the show) and Kody hasn't had any sort of "job" that we can see in a long time.

They did some bogus treatment with exercises years back. It didn't do much (surprise).

(I used to work in spine surgery).

I don’t know if anyone here watched the Duggar family, and years ago there was an online semi-joking rally cry to “Save Jinger!”

I think we need to “Save Ysabel!”  That poor girl should have had surgery before they moved to Arizona, way before COVID happened. She’s in pain.

Don’t they have medical insurance for their flock of children? Why does the surgery need to be in New Jersey??  If she needs a specialist, I’m sure there’s one on the west coast, for goodness sake.

I really liked the old days, when all the kids had a large assortment of siblings to play with.

Now, these kids are uprooted, separated, they may move again, and their father’s an idiot.

I'd watch a Christine On Her Own show! I bet she would blossom once she got on her feet.

I'd also watch the current train wreck if TLC pulled in some of you eloquent, thoughtful and well-informed posters, as sort of translators for each wife.
I can picture (or is it pitcher?) a big meeting circle out on their property, with one or two 'translators' per wife speaking up and saying all of the necessary things they leave unsaid, (or half said and circled talked around for years). Of course, I'd expect some snarky asides with tips on exactly what to do with Kody's hair thrown in for good measure!

I'd dearly love seeing someone giving the douche and his dark bride some well-earned what for, as my Granny used to say. It would be great to duct tape that lousy excuse for a man to one of those picnic tables, and force him finally explain their finances in great detail.

Regarding Janelle's pronouncement that she was going to help Madison with her kids: I couldn't believe that Kody truly had no reaction at all.  If, heaven forbid, my granddaughter needed serious reconstructive surgery and my daughter-in-law and son were far away (they are) you could bet I'd be out there in a heartbeat and my husband would be backing me 100%. It's his GRANDDAUGHTER and she has a serious condition!  He was like- womp womp, guess we won't see each other for a while. Janelle seemed like it really bothered her, which is weird; I view her as rather asexual and just likes him because they chum around talking about camping and their lovely mud puddle on Coyote Pass.

I have never seen more than a brother-sister type hug between the two of them but she is waxing on about how hard it is without him around.  Maybe she makes him do chores while he's there?

I really am sick of hearing Kody bloviating every week about what a burden it is to be Kody Brown.  His love apparently hasn't multiplied over the years.  I did laugh when he walked up Christine's driveway with his curls flapping in the breeze.  That was the only time this episode I didn't look at him and feel utter disgust.  What a mess he has made.

I also think the wives may fear a domino effect. If Christine leaves, who’s to say another won’t?  As little as they cared for Meri during the cat fishing, they sure didn’t want Meri to leave the family. They’re perfectly fine with Meri being ignored, lonely and alone in her large house, as long as the polygamy facade continues.

Robyn and Kootie will fly off into the Flagstaff sunset on her broom.  Kootie still wants her, and only her.  Since Robyn manipulated this outcome all along they certainly deserve each other.  The only joy one can take from this unholy alliance is that eventually he'll turn on her, too.

I don't think Robyn cares all that much for Kody. I think Robyn is a very lazy woman that wants a man in the house full time to help take care of the kids. Once she has him all to herself will she be happy? I don't think so. I'm not even sure Kody will be happy after the "honeymoon phase" wears off and he realizes he's with this manipulative wench 24/7 with no  other women fighting over him.

Christine should try to get in as another sister wife with the Darger family. She seems to admire and love them! Maybe she's too old for Darger, though. Don't these polygs want to marry women that still have plenty of child bearing capabilities?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they show Dayton with a camera doing the filming of the Coyote Pass Scenes?  If it was Dayton, they should teach him how to do cameras for the show because I thought he did a decent job of panning to different people to get facial reactions.

If Dayton was the cameraman for that scene (and the Ysobel/Kody/Christine debacle, and the Janelle/Kody "raging romance" cringe-fest).....well, he did a great job first off, but secondly- that's taking awkward family meetings to whole other level. 😬

I was fascinated by Meri's makeup choices in the picnic scenes.  I know heavily drawn-on brows are the rage these days, but she paints hers so far towards the middle they practically touch. And the harsh eyeliner... so unattractive.  She looked better in her talking heads.

I can't get over the swearing and "I don't give a shit" attitudes the wives have all developed. Look back at season 1 (and pictures pre-TV) where they wear modest clothing (even at the gym they wore long sleeves under their workout tanks).  They all look old, tired, and over it.

I was with Kody regarding his frustration around "talking about communicating" - enough already. But I cannot for the life of me understand why he wouldn't be able to go with Ysabel.

Is Robyn not able to be without Kody for a couple of weeks? She has three almost grown children, an almost 5 year old and almost 10 year old. She does not work outside the home. Perhaps Dayton has more problems than we see. But still, call in help then if you need. Do what you need to do. Kody should have gone with Ysabel.

I think, as someone said above, that insurance might have "covered" the surgery but there could have been copays. I had (a completely different) surgery several years ago. I have great health insurance but I still ended up owing about $25,000 out of pocket. I can see them having very high deductibles and perhaps had some out-of-network providers. Plus you really have to stay on top of insurance companies. They often reject claims the first time around that are actually allowable, so if Christine didn't manage all the claims well (and it's tough, even with an intelligent and supportive partner, which Christine definitely doesn't have) she may well have paid out of pocket for things that should have been covered.

Quote

Yes, I couldn't stop noticing that! It was like two caterpillars who had fallen in love and were trying to get together.

At least someone on this show is in love.

What's up with Kody's believe that Flagstaff is the most likely place for any of their adult children to settle, BTW? It seems that there is a concentration of them already in Utah and none of the older ones has much connection to AZ. Is that another one of his delusional beliefs created to support whatever he wants at the moment?

I saw an interesting comment on the SW Fan page on FB. I don't like to reply there, because its not anonymous. The idea put forth is that Kody can't keep up with the wives sex drives like he did when he was 25, 35, 45. I'm not saying this to be snarky, just that it's possible. These women are of the age to be either pre menopausal or in the throes of it..

My grandma told me this about sex drive before menopause. "The sun shines hardest  before it sets". It was true for me.

I wonder if he can't keep up?

I was 5 in 1st grade but I could already read and had been learning for 3 years. Sol has 2 parents and a bunch if older brothers and sisters. There is no excuse for his not being age proficient except parental laziness.

Robo seems to want her kids to be infantile as long as possible.  I can't think why; most of us are happy that our kids are becoming their own people, and encourage growing up in a timely manner.  All I can come up with is it keeps Kootie around, because he seems to be less and less interested in fathering his kids the older and more independent they get.

Whatever it is, it's not doing those kids any favors.  I think it's shameful.

Sol was born in the fall, and I don't know what the cut-off date is for first grade in Arizona. If it is earlier than his birthday, then he would be eligible to enroll in first grade the year he turns 7 which would be 2018. He would still be six years old for the  first two months, and a lot of parents of boys now wait until the child has turned 7 before enrolling them in first grade.  (I have known a few parents who have also done this with girls).  In that case he would start school in the fall of 2019, and he would have only been in first grade when the pandemic started, and I guess they went to remote learning so in this case I can see him not being a reader yet.    I have a later birthday than Sol has, and I was enrolled in first grade at the age of 5, but that was back in the 50's.

Even if he’s the youngest in his class, at 8 years old he should be fully reading, he should not be “learning to read.”  My 11 yo has ADHD and he was reading at the end of preschool if I remember correctly.  Not War and Peace or anything, but age appropriate books.  Scholastic has a good guide according to age, in my opinion.

Are Robyn’s kids homeschooled?  I know that kids are not where they should be because of the pandemic, but if they are homeschooled I’d think they should be on track.

I get annoyed at Kody's righteous indignation about his wives not falling into obedience over his Covid rules excuse me, wouldn't he be the one spreading it if he went from house to house?  I don't see him self quarantining.  And if they all quarantined stringently wouldn't it then be okay for them all to be together with zero exposure?

As for delusional Christine (whose children have no desire to move - something she seems to be ignoring), she wouldn't be so lonely if they had followed through with building their polygamy mansion, but she was vehemently against that. She can't make up her mind what she wants. Other than to be the Young hot wife again.  Can somebody give her some Botox for that line between her eyebrows?

Kody's drug of choice is chaos.

Once the fantasy turns into reality, both brains will be bored and will need a fix. What really got me, too, was how many times he said “I have no idea why you can’t wait 6 months.” Christine and Ysabel had both said like 78 times by then that it was because of her extreme pain level. It was so dismissive of him to keep repeating “I just haven’t heard the reason for doing it now” when they had bloody well told him!! I’m assuming that means he doesn’t think his daughter’s pain is worth addressing. Fantastic.

Not to mention her share of the land on Rodent Poop Pass.

I haven't got the slightest inclination to give her one dime of my money.
