S05.E11: Truth and Reconciliation (1)

Recommended Posts

The origin story of TAC is revealed through flashbacks when Bull tries to get a new trial for the wrongly convicted prisoner who inspired him to work in trial science 12 years earlier.

I found this episode surprisingly interesting.  It didn't have the usual courtroom histrionics, or the last minute 'surprise witness or evidence', etc.

I wonder where Bull got the original funding for his office operation.  That setup isn't cheap, and he would have had to help win a few high profile cases early on to gain attention from well heeled attorney corporations.

Interesting ploy from Benny (Bull, of course) to get the sentence reduction.

I enjoyed the flashbacks far more than the modern day story. When we were in the modern day story, I kept wishing we'd cut to a flashback.

I found this episode uncharacteristically good!

Surprise ending was also clever. I wonder if they can maintain the goodness for a whole second episode.

Fat-faced Bull-as-Was looked funny! Melissa (or what ever) also looked very different, and not just the hair.

Find it a bit unlikely the kid would be arrested like immediately, though. he's a cop, must have other enemies. the kid's 'threat' not very much

I think they looked so fat because of a weird prosthetic mask to make them look younger instead of using CGI.  That was the only reason I could think of for both of them looking so weird in the flashbacks.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but between the son's threats to the detective in the hallway and the detective inexplicably not showing up for the parole hearing, I totally expected the ending.

Good episode, though. I hope we see Danny and Chunk flashbacks in part 2. (And maybe Benny, though how he got involved with TAC is not as much of a mystery.)

....and now to figure out where I know that prosecutor from. She reminded me of Parker Posey.

I thought they did a good job with the flashbacks and how the characters looked.  Contrasted with Scott Bacula's flashback episode on sunday, which was simply terrible!  They darkened his hair and stuck a pornstache on him and called it a day.  Bull & Marissa both looked like younger versions of themselves far more realistically.

And yes, the ending was so obvious.  But I'm not sure how the cops knew the kid "threatened" the cop... I didn't think anyone but Benny & Bull heard that and I don't think they said anything as they seemed shocked & surprised at the arrest.

I admit I expected the father to be killed in prison before he was released but I’m fairly certain the detective was dirty. Or just racist. He likely left a note that if he turned up dead, it was Leo who killed him. He seemed very nonchalant about the ‘threats’ outside the courtroom but at the same time, he was smirking when he walked in. As soon as he turned up dead, I knew they’d point the finger at Leo. I don’t suppose they’ll do a GSR test on him before pronouncing him guilty?

More likely, he was down the station chewing the fat with his mates, and was like "You won't believe what this fool said to me! He said..."

Maybe but I just had a bad feeling about him from the start. I wouldn’t be surprised if he set Leo up to take the fall.

Maybe, but that would rather presume he anticipated his own death. The next episode will hopefully provide a clearer picture of what took place.

I'm looking forward to an episode of Bull. Where are my meds?

Not so far fetched, if you consider he may have staged a suicide to look like murder, he was close to retirement wasn't he?  It's been long enough that some show has to do this "ripped from the headlines" story.  As soon as he said he was being threatened with that smirk I thought this could be the one.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_of_Joe_Gliniewicz  This was a huge pull on resources from across the region including federal agencies and the subsequent funeral drew cops from around the state and even a few from out of state.  Some were suspicious of the circumstances but the media ran with the "beloved hero cop ruthlessly gunned down by local hoodlums" only to months later find out he was embezzling from the department and fraudulently acquiring equipment which was about to be discovered through an internal audit.

Those ‘threats’ were not physical harm threats.  They were  end your career or lawsuit threats.  The type of people who threaten lawsuits aren’t the same people that murder you.
Marissa was much more competent and confident when she worked for  Homeland Security
