Regarding COVID, I guess the schools aren't shut down yet? We saw Dakota recording her album, which wouldn't have happened during lockdown either. Seems a bit contradictory with Rome's movie getting shut down and Regina not being able to have customers inside though. But I don't remember the exact details of when things closed.

A lot of things did not close down right away. I remember that where I live already had a shelter in place order but I was still seeing people in other states going to bars, eating at restaurants, and generally still going out and doing EVERYTHING for weeks. My mom lives in the same state but a different county (500 miles away) and they were not in lockdown yet so I had to tell her to stop going to her dance classes and other unnecessary gatherings. Things varied a lot depending on county leadership regarding what could still be open and at what capacity.

Since this episode took place the day after Rome's movie got shut down, it's very early in the COVID situation in the United States. I'd guess that this week's episode took place almost exactly a year ago to the day. During last week's episode one of the stories on the tv in the background was about basketball being cancelled, which happened on March 11. According to this Boston Eater article, all restaurants in Massachusetts had to shut down dine-in service beginning March 17 (two days earlier, the mayor of Boston said restaurants had to reduce dining capacity to 50%) but many restaurants had already voluntarily switched to take out only. The governor's announcement also banned gatherings of more than 25 people and closed schools, so I assumed that this episode took place before that happened since we haven't yet heard about Sophie, Danny, and Theo being home from school yet.

Man, if I didn't feel bad enough for Eddie, imagine him being stuck at home with Theo?

Good thing the season is almost over. We don't need to see Theo's remote learning. Then again, now Katherine will be home all the time, Eddie can't hide the pills now.

And there are also times where there's a little too much reality...I'm almost 60 years old and really didn't need to learn how chemically-induced abortions work...I kept changing the channel every time Maggie came onscreen because I felt so uncomfortable.

It was the most realistic early-term abortion storyline I have ever seen. Two of my friends had the two-pill chemical abortions, and I was the friend who distracted them during the crampy parts (and fed them, kept them cozy). It's almost never some horror film extraction like they like to imply in certain corners of the country. I've taken plan B, and had to take one (not two) of the abortion pills before my IUD insertion to soften my cervix, and it was almost the exact same side effects...just a lil queasy. I've never had an abortion, so I can't speak to how much pain she should have been in. But she matched how my friends responded to two pills.

I really like Jamie. I'm surprised because I really didn't like the actor in either Modern Family or Single Parents, but think he's great here. I'm glad that he came to be with her.

You might want to try watching You're the Worst. He's the lead and he's hilarious in it!

He also just showed up in This Is Us as the music teacher, and he's an ex-boyfriend in This Way Up. This actor has a great agent.

I was glad to see this method rather than a D&C. And as for too much reality, in a related vein, I'm sooo tired of birth-giving scenes.

Theo seems the epitome of the snowflake method of parenting. Someone has to tell him to put on socks? At least he'll suffer the consequences of no gloves when his hands are freezing and he scrapes them on the ice every time he falls (you know Theo isn't a good skater, right?).

Gary so irks me. HE and ONLY HE has to be everyone's savior. The writers seem to like this rather than consider it something he might need to work on with a therapist. (They acknowledged it once, when he said "yeah, I've been out of work for months now; I need to focus on myself for a while." But then he didn't.)
Darcy should dump Gary for prioritizing Maggie. Have her meet someone better, and Jamie and Maggie stay together, so that Gary has to deal with himself.

Regarding Sophie being competent to watch her brother for a weekend, remember that there's infant Charlie, too. Oh wait, nobody remembers Charlie, especially Eddie and Katherine.

As I recall, infant Charlie is in France with the mother.

At the end, Darcy is impressed with Gary's tobaggan.  Darcy needs to get a clue now before she invests any more time and emotions on him, and save the your new step-daddy shit for another man who is worthy.  Gary is always going to put his supposedly now platonic friendship with Maggie the ex-GF above you, Darcy, and probably before his cadre of friends of Jon.  I suspect Gary's dog is now living with Eddie's sister, somewhere.

Run, Darcy, Run!

Get lost, Theo.

I do hope Jamie meets Darcy somehow and they hit it off.
