He tweeted that he did which is what got the ball rolling in the first place.

Ok, I went back and read the Esquire article.  He tweeted in 2013 (!) that he wanted the job.  So I stand corrected about his intent.

Still not convinced there were any true candidates other than the two producers in the minds of the executives.  Otherwise I think we would have seen other types of people (mid-level news anchors with a strong TV presence, people with hosting experience that don't 'have NYC/LA jobs, etc.) in the mix to find the "best" candidate.

I'm not sure any of the guest hosts were truly candidates for the full time syndicated job other than the two producers.  For the prime time gig that Mayim Bialik got?  I think the celebrities were really auditioning for that.

I suspect this is probably right, but I think the show did a really terrible job of managing the process and audience expectations.

I actually think that Jennings was intended to be the new host and Richards usurped him. Richards claims that he was never supposed to be considered for the role but a guest host dropped out putting him in that position. But according to Ringer two sources say that there was a minor scheduling conflict and the crew told the host they could work around it for Richards to insist on hosting himself.

It’s interesting that Richards was only EP of the show for a few months before Trebek died. So the crew had a brand new boss that at the last moment chose to insert himself into the search for a host. That had to be awkward.

Tory Lanez's Bail Increased for Violating Megan Thee Stallion Restraining Order

Quote

The judge also modified his bail conditions to specifically prohibit Tory from attending events where his alleged victim, Megan, will be present. The judge also said if this issue comes up again ... he will be remanded into custody. So, this was clearly his last warning.

Tory's bail was increased from $190k to $250k -- so he'll have to throw down a bit more dough to stay free.

An extra $60,000 doesn't seem like much of a deterrent to me.

Angelina Jolie set a record for how quickly she got 100 million instagram followers. I love that she posted in support of the Afghan refugees. I haven't seen all of her movies nor follow all of the gossip about her family, but I've always admired her as a humanitarian. She has a big heart.

He's had substance abuse problems for years. Even way back on Buffy, Whedon didn't want to fire him, but couldn't give him a big workload either. It's been a long downhill slide

Of course he didn't want to fire his favorite character, he was more preoccupied with bullying the actresses that wouldn't kow-tow to his will. 🙄

I'm a little confused on why he's suing Courtney Love as executor of Cobain's estate. My understanding is Frances actually controls it, not Courtney, because Courtney relinquished her share to Frances several years ago. But maybe I'm missing something.

I read the AV Club article on this one. The pornography claim seems like it might be difficult. But if his family never signed a release and his image was used on other merch and promo items it seems pretty reasonable that he should have gotten paid. Seems more reasonable than the Scarlett Johansson suit, since in this case it appears that there isn't even a contract.

As for Courtney is it possible that he is suing her since in the past she made money directly off Nevermind. He is also suing Chad Channing, who has one drum tracks on one song.

Considering he's made several reconstructions of the cover at various ages and he has a tattoo of it on his chest, I can see this being a hard case to win.

What, really? That's pretty dodgy. I wonder if some ambulance-chasing lawyer whispered in his ear or something.

Duane Dog Chapman's daughter accuses her father of racism, cheating on Beth when and before she was bedridden with cancer, and other kooky stuff after she was uninvited to the wedding

Well, talk about Pandora's Box all of a sudden. Even before everything else, he always seemed pretty damn shady to me. So no sympathy to Dog The Bounty Hunter.

Let's not forget that he was caught on tape disowning one of his sons for dating an African- American woman in 2007 because he and others in the family frequently dropped the N-word and  he (the elder Mr. Chapman) didn't want to chance anyone recording the usage (rather than  everyone simply ceasing said usage out of respect for her and other African-Americans), her allegations do not surprise me!  Of course, considering how his dialogue was filled with zillions of bleeps re profanity, I couldn't help but ponder that the network (A&E) almost certainly knew the extent of how vile his lingo could get but it seems went to greater lengths (via editing, etc.)  to hide any racist and ethnic slurs to keep their show intact.  I hope everyone also realizes  that even in their 'official' response, they don't deny that Miss Chapman and her sister weren't invited to the wedding (his 6th !).  I also hope that his fiance understands that his previous   four marriages (prior to the  one with the late Beth) didn't end solely due to the faults of Mr. Chapman's exes.

Even Chris Cuomo  was saying the same thing here with the lawyer representing the guy suing the band.

First celebrities on DWTS announced and it will be JoJo Siwa and gold medalist Suni Lee. JoJo will be in the show's first same sex dancing pair. The idea isn't new, Israel did it six or seven years ago, but they could have easily done this before. Because they have had many out, proud LGBTQ people on in the past. Nyle Demarco dancing with one of the male pros? Rowr. My cynical brain says this is less about representation or evolving social mores, and much more to get some younger eyeballs on one of the oldest skewing shows out there. Also kind of cheating to have on a dancer, even if her experience isn't Ballroom.

In some light-hearted news, Cher details 80s romance with Val Kilmer: "We had unbelievable times"

I knew she dated Val Kilmer. Of course right after Val, she went with Bagel Boy Rob Camiletti

Interesting that she actually took  Mr. Kilmer into her own home and nursed him during his throat cancer battle (decades after their romance had played out).  I hadn't heard of similar actions by his ex (and children's mother) Joanne Whalley during that time (and I wonder how his grown  kids reacted to Cher having done so- grateful or resentful).

The part about Cher and his recovery wasn’t featured in his movie that I recall. Maybe, he decided to keep that part private.

Between that and Auburn gymnastics Suni is going to be very busy.

I wonder if she is going to enroll this semester.  It seems like an awfully full plate to be attending college full time for the first time while also appearing and competing on a TV show that requires traveling to LA weekly to tape. Perhaps she is going to wait to enroll at Auburn.  Dancing with the Stars pays something like $125,000 a season as a baseline with more to those who make it farther, that kind of money would be hard to pass up.  The collegiate gymnastics season starts in January.

According to this article she's going this semester.

Going from the Olympics to Dancing with Stars to college gymnastics is a lot. I hope she doesn't burn herself out.

She’s already enrolled. She basically went straight from the Olympics to Auburn. She’s probably just doing online classes.

I love how the guys in the audience immediately guess who hes talking about and are completely stoked.  I've followed Nandi's Insta and she totally rocks. It has been fun to watch that whole thing unfold.

The father was paid $200 for the picture that became the album cover, so if anyone he should be suing his father.

Olivia Rodrigo has now been forced to add Paramore as writers on one of her songs, making this the second time she's had to acknowledge using other artists' material. It would have been the third but Elvis Costello shrugged it off as just what happens in music.

It's funny because every time I listened to "Good 4 U" I kept thinking about how it reminded me of 2000's Paramore mixed with Kelly Clarkson's "Never Again" with twinges of "Harder to Breathe" by Maroon 5.

Ever since "Driver's License" came out, I've kind of been wondering who wrote her songs. Olivia is listed as the writer on all of her songs, along with her producer, Dan Nigro. She was only 17 when it was released, so the song was obviously written while she wasn't even old enough to get a driver's license. I just wonder how much of the writing is her, & how much is Dan Nigro. Is this like Beyonce & her "writing" credits?

After 3 listening events, numerous blown deadlines, a stint living in a stadium, and lots of controversy over the recent inclusion of Marilyn Manson and DaBaby, Kanye's newest album was finally released this morning, after a bunch of social media drama over the weekend in which various people were blamed for its delay . . . only for more social media drama to ensue when Kanye said this afternoon that the label released it without his permission.

It’s hard to imagine what this record is supposed to be the soundtrack for. It’s not a party record. It doesn’t invite introspection. It’s not spiritual outside of literal references. It’s not really a radio record, although “Jail” and “Ok ok” will probably do fine as singles. The only thing this feels apt for is listening to by yourself while scrolling Twitter. It’s disposable and completely forgettable, like so much of culture spat down to us during COVID....It would probably be healthier if people stop treating West on the hyperbolic terms he demands. The dude is damaged and contains multitudes; we get it. Who isn’t, though? Kanye and his fans name-search and seem to get off on any criticism of his work, so here’s some: He’s not really an interesting rapper. It turns out getting everything you’ve ever wanted for a few decades (outside of being able to bring your mother back to life) leaves you with little to say that other humans can relate to. There are many great MCs out there; West just isn’t one of them. His true defining talent is in orchestrating megalomaniacal spectacles where he is simultaneously crucified and deified.

I don’t understand Kanye’s decision to bring in Marilyn Manson and Da baby…..sort of disgusting.

I posted the reason in the Predator and Prey: Assault, harassment, and other aggressions in the entertainment industry thread & the KUWTK thread, so you can find it there if you want (basically, for publicity). I just don't want to post the same thing here, in another thread LOL
