Airing on January 27, 2021:

Dr. Marcel and Dr. Manning lay everything on the line to assist a sick woman. Dr. Halstead faces an uphill battle in getting participants involved in his clinical trial. Dr. Choi clashes with a patient who demands absolute perfection of himself.

I have been in the hospital with COVID since January 8, ten days in the ICU, now on the regular COVID Ward. So YIKES on the opening! Some of the details as to how we and the staff are dressed/isolated are very different than as presented on the show.

I like Marcel, but hate Manning, so I am conflicted on this pairing.

I really loved the Dr. Charles and Dr. Choi scenes. At this point, Dr. Charles is my favorite character.

Who else is of the belief that the kid's DNA comes back with someone rich & famous as his relative?

I hadn't considered that possibility, but it would be interesting.  I was thinking that it might be someone who would be related close enough to have some legal say in the kid's (sorry, I forgot his name) health decisions and would want to halt any type of treatment due to religious (or non-science-based) beliefs.

The 21-year old cancer patient shouldn't have made this life-threatening decision alone but appears Crockett "convinced" her it would be OK.  Crockett & Manning - who didn't see this coming when they started the risky surgery?  Dr. Mayfield was warranted in having them fired but I knew the moment she said it, that the writers would use this as the perfect opportunity for them to have "celebratory" sex (even before Sharon's "reprimand"--seriously Goodwin🙄)  or if they had been fired.  They should have at least been suspended but now there are rogue doctors with little to no repercussion or being held accountable.  Instead, they are revered and congratulated for what they did.   Will Natalie be just another one-night stand (should be, imo) or will this romance develop as intended for a season and a half?   Have never been a fan of this "pairing", YUCK-  Manett?

Halstead & April recruiting patients for this trial - disaster in the making.  I couldn't believe Halstead was so naïve and didn't understand the quid pro quo when attempting to secure additional funding and patients?  I hope they don't push a Halstead/April relationship although they're both know-it-alls so how would that work🤪

Maggie & family - just MEH.   Has this little boy always needed a liver transplant?  Did I miss something from a previous season?   Maggie can't get a break, e.g., breast cancer, kidney donor, married fostering this sick boy - always drama for her!  Let's hope they don't have her doing anything unethical/immoral/illegal

SIDE NOTE:  did anyone else notice that the Doris (secondary) character has been on the show since the beginning--albeit in the background--yet, as of late, seemed to have a few more lines/visibility this season?  However, I thought it odd that she would suddenly make this "pronouncement" of  taking time off - will she be written out of the show?

Choi/Charles - I'm not sure what to make of this acrimonious behavior; is it simply due to COVID?   IMO, Choi is undermined, looks incompetent, rigid, a bad leader, etc., in almost every situation lately.  They put him in charge (leadership skills) so he could get things done through others but it just appears to be bad decisions/choices at every turn.    Dr. Charles, voice of reason, got Choi to realize that he can't control every situation.  I hope this is a sea change for Choi going forward as for me, his character has done a 180 degree turn.

Funny, when I saw this operation that had not been authorized by the Oncology Department I thought "who is going to pay for this EXTREMELY expensive procedure?" Whatever health insurance the patient has, the insurance company would have plenty of grounds to question their financial obligation, and the most relevant department in the hospital would back up their doubts. Might Chicago Med end up eating the cost? Another reason for Goodwin to be pissed.

It also seems to me that the patient was hardly out of the woods given how far the cancer had spread and the degree to which it could have metastasized. Not exactly the time for Crockett and Manning to celebrate by having sex.

I hate that they are putting Crockett and Natalie together - I like him but she is just so annoying.  And, yeah, there should be repercussions for them doing the unauthorized surgery, but this hospital doesn't seem to stick to good practices at all.

I used to like Choi but he is just insufferable in this management role but seems that they're going to let him stay in that position  unless he decides he doesn't want it instead of just realizing it was a bad move and move him back to his former post.

Maggie, Charles, and Goodwin are the only characters I like on this show and that may not be enough to keep me watching much longer.  Not to mention the inconsistent treatment of covid policies.

And then get April (she's first, because she orders doctors around), Natalie, Will & Crockett in there.

A million times this^^^. I want to tell Crockett to run. She is so sanctimonious at all times. He might find her attractive physically, but she is toxic.

No way would insurance cover this. Even if the surgeons donated their time there is still the anesthesiologist, the OR and everyone else there.

When the oncology told Crockett and Natalie that they would never treat another patient at the hospital, I immediately thought, ‘don’t toy with me!’ But then just as quickly realized they might get a stern talking to, and then sent on their merry way. Turns out they didn’t even get the talking to. Just mildly scolded and then called heroes. 🤮

Halstead is being Halstead yet again. Shock, surprise.

plastic surgeon guy just so grossed me out.

I still can't see doctors bent over a sink in what seems to be an empty bathroom in the ER without getting nervous some person is about to beat the shit out of them. Glad Choi made it out unharmed. Yes, I'm still dealing with the impact of Dr Green getting attacked on a much better show.

The trope that I most hate on this show (and there are many) is the "Hysterical dedicated ED staff know better than specialists and save the patient".

Just because you want something to happen and you go all cowboy on it doesn't mean that it's going to happen. It's a terrible message for the show.

There hasn't been a man yet that April hasn't sucked the soul out of. I don't like Halstead but I wouldn't with that on anyone

Choi should be in mandated anger management therapy.

There are never any repercussions for these doctors breaking protocol. Goodwin allows this crap to happen time after time time. Natalie has already locked parents out of their child's room to administer a treatment they didn't want, and then been celebrated because the treatment worked. Same thing here. They go around the oncology doctor's ruling, and get saved simply because the surgery worked out. Natalie, especially, is NEVER proven wrong. She doesn't like a ruling from another doctor, she always finds some way to get around it, and always ends up the hero. It's sad. That's why Sharon telling Will why he was never considered for the Chief Resident position is a load of crap, considering what she's let everyone get away with. She's fostered this environment because she hasn't reprimanded anyone. They all have carte blanche to do whatever they want to do without worry of any consequences.

And I really think Dick Wolf must have spoken to Shonda Rhimes to see how to add more drama to his shows. Because all these forced relationships and the tension on these shows makes me want to hurl.

This show is really becoming an exercise in patience to get through.

The inaccurate COVID protocols just do not make sense. You can't have one floor that's a COVID wing, and then have other's where everyone is maskless and within 6 feet of each other. Or Dr. Charles being outside, without a mask on, despite him having medical condition, while everyone else is wearing a mask.

For Will, the best storyline they can give him is a clinical trial that's destined to blow up in his face. If this was all they could find, they should have kept his relationship with Hannah going. And this show is so predictable, I can see the writing on the wall they're going to try to get him an April together. 🤢🤢 I could tell as soon as she asked if she could help on his trial.

Choi just continues to prove the point of why he should have never been picked for Chief Resident.

Natalie and Marcel is just so forced. And Maggie with the gossip show about it is ugh.

I knew that thd whole "Mancel " relationship was inevitably,  but I doesn't mean I have to accept it.  I like Crockett,  but I feel like him being with Natalie and going against protocol might be him spiraling out of control.

Choi continues to prove that he's the worst person for a leadership position.  I'm wondering how long it'll be before his staff turns on him. Will continues to be an idiot and is now being enabled by April.

Except for Dr Charles, Goodwin & maybe Maggie (she grates sometimes), every character on this stupid show is a horrible person. If these were real doctors I’d drag myself to any other hospital rather than be treated by any of them. (I actually liked Marcel until the Natalie thing. He’s dead to me now.)

I think I watch it just to see how idiotic and absurd it all becomes.
