Great memories! My biggest takeaway is the poor excuses for “meals” these hangry people have gotten. I’m just glad that after 6 weeks, they FINALLY got some damn Belgium waffles for their brunch!

Seriously. For all the publicity that casino got for this show you’d think they would have rolled out the red carpet and given these people five star meals. Five weeks watching people eat sumptuous meals might have actually enticed viewers to want to stay there. But I’m sure the girls picking over granola will have a similar effect.

Not sure how much of post show endorsements are going to be available in this COVID world but if anyone can become 'famous' out of this show, its Caleb.

Wow. If the current app vote of which couple has the best chance of making it IRL is any indication of the winner, it’s not even close!

Spoiler

75% for Justine and Caleb!

The fans have spoken.

Johnny's half-hearted "best of luck" was just perfect.  Congrats to Justine & Caleb.

Enjoyed snarking with everyone over the last few weeks.  Guess I'll make my way over the Bachlorette threads in a couple of weeks as that season looks like a total trainwreck.

Perfect ending! This show really led me to believe all of these crazy kids are going to give it a shot. I know that Carrington is in Utah and Laurel in Alabama—because they each mentioned it several times. I have no idea where any of these other people live. Anyone know how “long distance” they are from each other?

Me as soon as Cely starts talking:  mute button here I come.

Lord almighty.  Can Cely ever let a moment pass that she doesn't try to make about her?  Everyone is so quiet and respectful and as soon as attention turns to Justine, Cely starts saying all this shit about how good they look and how Justine's her BFF. First of all, we know.  Second of all it was THEIR moment to recite their damn love poems to each other.  Cely's personality REALLY made me start to like Moira so much more in the past few weeks by comparison.

Do you guys see why Carrington is so salivated over now?  Good lord he was soooooooo handsome tonight...................

Some songs:  Sia, I'm Alive (Mack's breakdown), some cover of Make You Feel My Love, and Ed Sheeran's "Castle on the Hill" to end everything.

I'm really gonna miss you guys 😞

I'm really not gonna miss Cely 😞

Guys I prayed and prayed and prayed (well I'm an atheist) for Cely and Johnny to come in third.  😞.  Just for us to get that laugh.  I think if Justine had befriended Moira instead of Cely, then for sure that would have happened.....

I went to Vegas as a teenager with my family and one of the best things about Vegas (when you're too young to drink or party) is that we went to like 100 buffets.  Hello!!!!!!!!!!  They have the food!

Justine: New Jersey and Caleb: Oklahoma City

Cely: Somewhere in California and Johnny: can't remember maybe Maryland or Virginia

Calvin: was selling bug spray in Houston but I think he's moved to Utah;  Moira from the east coast

Thank you for reminding me of my next reason to live.

I'm really gonna miss how some of you would always say "So thanks America (and Canada)".  That was so sweet.  And funny.  We are so often forgotten and ignored.  😥

I forgot to say that sometimes Calvin pulls faces that really remind me of Jim Carrey in his In Living Color days.  Jim was so handsome in Liar Liar, The Mask, Bruce Almighty so I guess that's a good thing.

I loved Laurel's dress.  She's like an Amazon, especially next to Cely.  I hated Cely's.  Surprise, surprise.  Moira and Justine looked like walking ads.  Very fresh and nice.

I thought some of you might enjoy the dresses.

I'm less happy for Justine and Caleb (still don't believe it...) and happy for all of us in America (and Canada!) that Johnny didn't get a chance to keep the whole $100,000. Was so nice to see them NOT win.

Did the girls play paper, scissors, rock for who got to pick their dresses first? Because Cely looked like she lost a bet while everyone else looked really good.

I didn't even recognize Laurel when she first came down the steps. I though for a second it was Ariana as the shot was at a very odd angle and all I could tell was that it was a blonde.

Moira looked stunning and I loved Calvin in that tux.

That all said no matter what they built them up to by the end I think everyone has the same shot to have a real relationship outside the villa as they do to keep from catching Covid from traveling. I give Moira and Calvin a few months while everyone else will "grow apart" quickly.

So as not to end on a negative I did enjoy the ride and especially enjoyed talking about the show here with y'all. See you around!

I just assumed she had bad taste.  That's not a knock on Johnny, because going purely on looks he was an early fave of mine, but look at her make up... I mean...

You know Johnny would have kept that 100k.

i like that this show doesn’t seem that sleazy.  I guess it’s because they all don’t seem sloshed 24/7.

Speaking of sloshed, next stop the bachelorette.  It’s been fun.  Let’s meet up in B land.

Then that was money well-spent by Caesar's!

I'm so impressed that y'all actually watched the first 45 minutes! All I want is to see Cely's face when Johnny dives in for an unnecessary kiss with Mercedes during the villa-CA competition. We viewers DESERVE to see this. This is far more important than seeing Arie dump Becca.

Well that was predictable. We really did end up with some boring ass people in this island.

However, I enjoyed the ride with y'all! It was a fun distraction.

Do they ever decide to keep the money all to themselves?

Who's first to break up? I'd say Johnny and Cely but really they're going to be that couple where she forgives him a thousand times before ever breaking up.

So Laurel and Dynasty boy?

If you guys do join the Bachelor/ette franchise you'll have to be very wary of spoilers. Don't Google anything about the show.  I know it's hard but I've been spoiled almost every single season and I'm someone who actively avoids spoilers at all costs.  Just don't go down any Google rabbit holes, etc. people really love to spoil that show for some reason.  The best thing about LI is that nobody can spoil it, because it's happening in real time.

I kept hoping that someone besides Johnny and Cely would finish second but i guess the producers thought that they had convinced us it was actually still a comtest.

Johnny “joking” that Caleb should keep the money was the most honest moment of the episode.

i would say I would miss this show but since I’ve already forgotten everything that happened (which forum am I in?) i guess that wouldn’t be credible.

...and on the last day they received fruit.

And paper.

They gave them paper! I thought they’d have to read from photos in their phones of pages in their journals. (Ahem Connor)

—-

And so I say..... I would like to couple up with these American (and Canadian!) forum members because they gave me a much needed mental break from the craziness in the world. They thanklessly made weekly threads and screenshots, shared links and twitter intel I’m too lazy to read. We shared snarks and laughs, acronyms and literally, like, a bunch of other good vibes, know what I’m sayin. They reminded me that I am not alone  in wondering why so many young women feel the need to use fillers and wear too much makeup. And even when we disagreed about contestants, we all seemed to enjoy making fun of Mackenzie as much as we also kinda worry about That Girl. And for these reasons I would like to couple up with the Love Island 2020 primetimer Forum members (hopefully in the Bachelorette forums).

It was a blast y’all! ❤️🏝+💻=🌈🦄

Well, certainly no surprise ending here, but it's as we all expected.  As others have already said, it was a lot of fun watching this show with all of you in this forum.  You made the show much funnier and a whole lot more interesting.  I wish all the couples the best of luck outside the villa.  And of course, all of you here, be safe and be well.

Agreed - it's great to see black winners on any reality show actually.

I may have missed it, but Caleb didn't say he loved Justine in his final speech, did he? That surprised me.

I loved Laurel's dress the best.

This is shallow, but I noticed Cely's skin got worse during the season. Was Johnny cheating on her causing her to break out?

I can't believe I got so addicted to this show this season. I will miss it. I should start binge-watching the UK seasons.

My ranking of the UK/Australian versions, FWIW:

1. UK Season 5

2. UK Season 4

Both of these have epic Casa Amor twist.

3. Australian 1

4. Australian 2

5. UK Season 6

I've only watched part of UK 2 and UK 3 as both of these seasons have had contestants commit suicide post show so I found that jarring to watch as I knew before attempting to binge watch.

The couples ended up in the final spots I expected.  I really did want Cely & Johnny to drop below 2nd place.  But I can't have everything.  I also believe Johnny would have kept all the money if given the chance.  I am sure it was part of "the plan".

I am so happy I never have to hear Cely's laugh again.  I was ready to shove a sock in her mouth by the end.

I do not believe any of the 4 couples will still be together by the time next season rolls around.

Quoting myself to give the final percentages on this “Which couple has the best chance IRL?” question in the app, which was asked before announcing the winner. We can assume a pretty good likelihood that people voted for this question the same way as they voted to win overall. Even if you considered a HUGE margin of error for voting for a couple that you really didn’t think would make it, it’s a total landslide!

78.8% Justine and Caleb

14.8% Cely and Johnny

5.5% Moira and Calvin

0.9% Laurel and Carrington

I'm kinda concerned how invested some people on Reddit/Twitter seem to be in Justine/Caleb.  Its one thing to want them to win over noneck Johnny cause he was so unlikable but to think they are getting married and going to live happily ever after is kinda concerning.

Did read an interview that Caleb is going home to Los Angeles and Justine heading back to New Jersey but they plan to get together "soon".  Which probably means not so soon or never.

I was going to write my post as a rhyming poem, but after about 30 seconds I decided it was too much work. Kudos to Calvin for that speech. He and Moira will probably do it a couple of times, then break up amicably.

Season 2 Love GIF by LoveIslandUSA

I wonder if Carrington is surprised that he comes in last/worst on almost all the votes. I had to laugh at Laurel's, "in all my 22 years of life ..." I have bras older than her.

Congratulations to Justine and Caleb. I doubt they'll end up married, but at least they both have an extra $50K. And good luck to Cely and Johnny's future partners, whom I assume they will dump each other for before the month is out.

See you all here next summer!

Yay, Justine and Caleb!!!! They were the nicest castmates who deserved it the most. Johnny saying "keep it" was his strategy for the whole show. I'm convinced Moira/Calvin actually got 2nd place. but the producers put Cely/Johnny up there to keep their narrative going/make social media sweat lol.

Carrington looked bewildered to be there from start to finish. His deadpan "I think I know" when Arielle told them to go wait for the result was unintentionally funny. Hey, it's a free (rental) suit, booze, and food, so I don't know why he looked so uncomfortable. Probably because the finale is set up like an engagement ceremony and basically forced him to (very poorly, halfheartedly) lead Laurel on even more. Remember when I thought he'd get booted the first week? I severely underestimated how much women under 25 see a total lack of charisma and interest as a challenge. At least Johnny has lines and a smile - Carrington just stares blankly into space. It's like trying to date/mother a 16-year-old. I have to hand it to him, the man came horny (no pun intended) and still left as a proud, unapologetic fuckboy. Notice how his speech and even their montage package focused on her looks because he still knows nothing about her. Laurel is nice and I feel bad that Carrington will crush her within a week when he inevitably ghosts her, but he's all but spelled out he doesn't want to date on the outside at every opportunity, so that's on her.

I can tell Calvin is not really into Moira romantically by the way he kept calling her "Miss Moira". And that's fine, they just enjoy each other's company.

That continuously struck me as odd too, but I think it's a Southern-style pet name. Calvin also strikes me as someone who embraces Dad humor and dorkiness (see: his speech), so that nickname tracks. He at least is way more into her now than when he first came in. I don't think he would've been making out with her all the time if he felt nothing. Then again, I also think he's just a nice guy who was willing to play that role with anyone, so time will tell. I think both he and Moira are enamored with the idea of being wanted and playing house, regardless of who it's with. I noticed Calvin also has the habit of smiling into his kisses with Moira/anyone, which makes him look super into it. That vague line about "chasing moments" was probably alluding to the fact that they'll definitely fuck before they leave and are open to staying friends with benefits until they each find someone local.

That outdoor shower scene was hot...call me, Calvin.

I'll sorely miss the narrator's snark and all of yours, too! Please migrate over to the Bachelorette forum (premiering Oct. 13th) so we can keep this party going. I love y'all!

I meant to say this too, I'll really miss the narrator also.

Coupling up with Calvin made Moira seem so much cooler and likeable.  She wasn't doing that "Duh" thing with her face and rolling her eyes around her skull.  She was happy, confident, relaxed.  It made her a lot more appealing.  And like I said, watching how collected and calm she was in all of the ceremonies next to Cely's "LOOK AT ME" behaviour.

Never thought I would be speaking up for ItalianSportsCar-rington of all people (he repulsed me at the beginning of the season), but here I am. Lol.

I think he has the most realistic (and honest!) view of this whole experience. This is literally what every couple is going to do, no matter what they claimed on the show.

Quote

"Me and Laurel have very realistic expectations for the outside world. We do not want to just end like most couples do when they go on a show like this. We're not boyfriend and girlfriend, but we are going to talk to each other, we're going to text, we're going to call all the time because it is going to be very weird being apart. But that's what we need to figure out, how much we want each other because we've never missed each other. We've been with each other every hour of the day, so this is going to be very good for us," Carrington said. "I already have my plans to go to Alabama to see her. We're going to be doing one or two trips a month until we decide, 'OK, let's just end [long-distance].'"

https://www.etonline.com/love-island-carrington-defends-claims-hes-only-with-laurel-for-tv-exclusive-153985

Overall, this is a good season of Love Island. It has enough likable people, drama, silliness and fun. A definite step up from the snoozefest of the first season. I tuned out halfway for that one and I believe the first season had fewer number of episodes.

I never understood the Carrington hate. Of everyone there, he seemed the most honest and upfront about things. Part of why I stopped watching Bachelor in Paradise was because of how dumb it was those people got engaged after knowing each other for two weeks. A bunch of 20-somethings from across the country hanging out for a few weeks should expect more Carringtons and less Johnnys. The girls who were into him couldn’t handle what he was telling them (and maybe he didn’t always express himself the best) but that’s also on them, too. Kierstan, for example, kept up this story that she was doing it all for him, so he kind of needed to be harsh and blunt with her to get the message across. And she still seemed to not get it.

Question related to that. They always show the guys working out but never the girls. I assume they get to? And I sure wouldn't want to do cardio on a 100 degree deck so maybe there's an air conditioned room somewhere?

If I had to live on grilled cheese and eggs my skin would look like shit and I'd gain weight too (what college was for me, basically).

I still think Cely is gorgeous. She just needs to give her skin a break from the makeup and have some fiber.

I watched the interview with Kiersten with Alex & Elizabeth and a couple nuggets...

  • Makeup: because of the heat, the islanders' makeup routines were complicated. Kiersten said they went through so much product. They were constantly blotting, or reapplying or showering and reapplying and she said her skin was "screaming" when she left.
  • Boobs: Cely said she really liked Kiersten's boobs and said she might get some. (me: DON'T CELY DON'T!) But Kiersten said that Cely is already A LOT and Cely with boobs might be too much.

I take back all the shit I said about Calvin. He's damn charming. Even if I feel like him recoupling with Moira was a case of mutual desperation/not wanting to leave the Villa, they have genuine chemistry and I could see them making it on the outside.

Johnny is so fucking fake!

Carrington showed more passion for that car in 3 hours than he has for Laurel in the entirety of their relationship.

I wasn’t crazy about Calvin at first but his quirky charm really won me over.....I think he would be a great TV game show host or something in that line, he has the looks and speaking voice too as well as his unique charisma.

Wow this is my first time getting into this show and I haven't followed the Bachelor I feel like since Trista and Ryan so this is my first dive backs into the "true love" genre in some time . Looking at some of the stuff that's out there some people are OBSESSED (not necessarily here)! Some people hate Johnny like he killed their best friend and worship Caleb and Justine as if their life depended on hanging on their every little interaction. Is it because social media makes people so accessible or is it the pandemic effect cause people are bored out of their minds?

I think its a combination the Pandemic and social media that has allowed some on twitter/reddit/instagram to loose sight of reality and be all in on Justine/Caleb.   And as I said before, I am concerned for them for when it comes all crashing down as it most probably will.

Its one thing to want Justine/Caleb to win cause you think they are a good 'couple' but to go and create stan accounts is just asking for being upset when they inevitably end.

Oh well, hopefully it won't be that bad and who knows, maybe Justine/Caleb will make it work in the real world.  All they can do is try.

That's pretty much just fandom culture. That's not even the half of it. People were using apps to see what Justine/Caleb's kids would look like and saying they'd take off work to crash their wedding. Bizarre, invasive shit lol. I think people are just bored/unhappy with their lives and so get invested in living vicariously in someone else's joy. Plus, Justine was a fan favorite from the start and (as she herself acknowledged after the show) became a symbol of first the rejection that many dark-skinned Black women face and then ultimately of healthy Black love. Many Black women see themselves in her.
