90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 2 star Tim says his journey with his Colombian girlfriend, Melyza, is a wild one.

ET's Melicia Johnson spoke to 34-year-old Tim ahead of the season premiere on June 8, which features the Dallas, Texas, native moving to Colombia to be with his 29-year-old girlfriend, Melyza. Tim and Melyza hit it off while she was working as an au pair in America and while she initially planned to move to Texas, Tim did something that has yet to be revealed to lose her trust.

Tim tells ET that his questionable actions were a major factor in why he decided to be the one to move to Colombia.

"You know, every relationship has their trials and tribulations and we're no different," he says of their drama. "And there's just been certain things that have transpired over our relationship that have been ... made her more hesitant with moving to the United States permanently. So... [moving to the U.S. is] not completely off her radar, but it's just been based on what we've been through in our relationship. It's kind of made us reevaluate where we are gonna be together. And I've never had an issue thinking about moving to Colombia at all."

"But you know, ultimately there have been things that have transpired in our relationship that you will find out about, that have affected her trust in me and her trust in the relationship in general," he continues. "So, she's never been desperate to get out of her situation in Colombia or anything like that."

Tim has no issue placing a lot of the blame on himself when asked what he did to get her to give him a second chance.

"Honestly, I feel like not enough," he says bluntly. "And I feel like that's something the viewers are going to find out about as well is how much did I ... how much have I actually been fighting for her, and how much have I been complacent?"

In the trailer, Tim gushes over how gorgeous Melyza is, and he shared with ET how he was able to catch her eye at a bar when they first met even while other men were vying for her attention.

"You know, I honestly think what made her give me a chance in the very beginning was just that I'm genuine, you know?" he muses. "I’m goofy as hell. And I've really learned to embrace that and accept that about myself. ... I think it was just the goofiness and the fact that she was able to see that I was trying and I was being goofy because I don't have any game. I just have the genuine aspect of my personality. ... I broke her down eventually."

Tim also stresses that there's so much more to Melyza than her physical attractiveness.

"Especially with the whole Colombian stereotype, I think most people just, like, automatically jump at the fact that they're stereotypically very gorgeous," he says. "But ... she had more to her than that. She's just incredibly intelligent. She's completely bilingual. And you know, taught herself a lot of that. And is really determined and motivated and honestly, I may not have as many desires to be motivated or ambitious. So, that kind of rubs off on me from her. So ... a lot more things than you look for than just beauty, because that does fade and she's just an amazing person. She really cares about other people, unequivocally."

Tim says he and Melyza's journey this season will be both "shocking" and "juicy."

"I think there's going to be a lot of genuine moments," he teases. "I think there's going to be a lot of juicy moments. You know, whether it be family struggle, whether it be struggles between me and her, whether it be struggles between adapting to a completely new place. I just think the viewers are really going to enjoy getting to know us as people and as a couple, and really being able to put themselves in our shoes and relate, whether or not they’ve been in this specific situation or not before."

"I think they're going to be shocked," he continues. "I think they're going to be delighted to be along for our ride."

Season 2 of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way premieres June 8 at 9 p.m. ET on TLC.

Is this couple the new Larry and Jenny:  Not Interesting Enough for the Pilot?  Have we seen them yet even?  Maybe I zoned out during their scenes because I've lost complete interest in this show but what the hell else do I have to do on Sundays and Mondays now

this couple is boring, and I don't believe the storyline.  he cheated on HER? she is so out of his league.  he is moving there, so they can be filmed...probably couldn't get a spot on the other 90 day show.

Yes, I can see the link in the UK. Some sites are blocked because of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Under GDPR there are strict rules on how businesses must handle customers' personal data. Sites must disclose any data collection, why it's lawful, how long it's being held and whether it's shared with third parties or outside the EU. EU citizens have a right to demand a copy of the data in a common format and to have it erased. Larger businesses that collect a lot of personal data must employ a data protection officer to manage GDPR compliance.

A lot of the USA news sites just decided to block access from the EU rather than make their websites compliant. For a long time the LA Times and Chicago Tribune were blocked. Some newspapers, such as USA Today, have special EU-compliant sites but the USA site isn't accessible.  The majority of local news sites block access from the EU, as I expect the cost of compliance wouldn't be worth the few visitors they'd get from the EU. But it means I can't keep up with the local news in Hocking County, OH, where my friends & family live. A lot of US online stores which don't ship outside the USA also block access too.

The majority of entertainment sites are available, thankfully.

I didn’t give this couple the Too Boring vote only because it’s been made clear that she wasn’t moving here because he cheated. Curious to know whether she wanted him in Colombia or whether this is his bright idea, because she doesn’t seem too thrilled about his upcoming visit. He seems to believe that groveling will make everything fine. Could get there and have his ass handed to him, competition with other guys, whatever. I don’t remember anything about her other than he likes the way she looks on the beach and his friends like her.  Admittedly a little curious...

Why did Melyza's name disappear from the title? It took me a bit to find it.

Tim gave an interview with the Dallas Observer.

Tim, a Dallas Man on 90 Day Fiancé, Says the Reality Show Is 'True and Valid'

Spoiler

At the beginning of June, TLC reality show 90 Day Fiancé introduced a whole new cast of long-distance couples, but there’s one couple viewers have yet to meet. Tim, a 34-year-old account manager from Dallas, and his Colombian fiancée, Melyza, who will make their debut on the show Monday, June 29. For the sake of  avoiding spoilers, the couples' last names are withheld.

90 Day Fiancé follows Americans who are engaged to someone who lives outside the U.S. The show is so named because of the K-1 visa, which gives the partner who is not a U.S. citizen 90 days to visit the U.S. and determine if they want to get married.

The season airing now, 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, is one of the series’ many spin offs. It flips the typical format of the show on its head, instead following the journey of the American as they move to their partner’s home country.

Tim hasn’t been mentioned in the first few episodes, but a bio for the show teases his relationship with Melyza. It describes how they met at a bar in Iowa, where he was attending college and Melyza was working as an au pair.Melyza had plans to move to Dallas to be with Tim, but they changed after a mysterious trust-shattering incident.

“To prove his love for her, Tim is now moving to Colombia,” the bio reads. “Melyza’s mother also doesn’t trust Tim, and thinks he has a lot to prove for her to support their relationship.”

Repeat viewers will know that all of the relationships on 90 Day Fiancé face significant conflict — that’s just a rule of good TV— but in a conversation with the Observer, it’s clear that Tim’s story doesn’t fit the typical mold.

A common cliffhanger on 90 Day Fiancé is whether the Americans are being catfished, but that aspect is completely absent from Tim’s story. He’s one of few people to have met his partner in person first versus on social media or through an international dating site.

“I really wouldn’t say it puts me in a different stratosphere or anything like that, but the majority of the couples don’t have that benefit,” he says in a friendly Southern drawl.

While many people who appear on the show have a history of dating long distance, the experience is somewhat new for Tim. He says he’s always been open to the idea of a long-distance relationship, but past girlfriends were against it.

When he met Melyza, he recalls he wasn’t looking for anything particularly serious, but that quickly changed.

“When I laid eyes on her for the first time it was obviously someone who was very gorgeous, but she also had this kind of aura to her,” he says. “I knew I had to try.”

Technology makes distance easier to manage, but Tim admits it still poses its challenges.

“The Catch-22 is that you might be pursuing something for longer than you would have otherwise because you’ve invested more in the long-distance relationship,” he says.

Taking on a reality TV show would only complicate his relationship with Melyza further, and he says they thought long and hard before deciding to accept the offer to be on the show.

“We didn’t know how it would affect our relationship,” he says. “We knew the audience would be able to see us for better or for worse.”

Fame was not something Tim says he was seeking.

“It just happened. Reality TV is one of those things that I always watched, but I probably wouldn’t admit to watching as much as I did,” he says. “I never saw myself as being on TV, especially reality TV, because of the negative stereotypes.”

On most seasons of 90 Day Fiancé, there is at least one couple who wins over audiences, but the show has also featured lots of divisive, unlikable personalities and trainwreck relationships. Its entertainment value is often rooted in schadenfreude.

“Yeah, that was something that concerned me,” Tim says, when asked why he decided to go on a show that invites so much judgment. “I’m just a goofy guy and it kind of took me some years to just accept that’s who I am.”

“Everyone likes to think that they don’t care what people think about them,” he continues. “I think even the most comfortable people in their skin still care what other people think about them.”

But Tim says as he talked to the producers, he got more comfortable with the idea of appearing on the show.

“They said, ‘Hey, we’re just going to tell your story. We’re not going to give you lines or anything like that.’”

What’s the main thing you can expect to see during Tim and Melyza’s story arc this season? Relatability, he says. “I think people can expect to see growth, not just as a couple, but as people.”

There will also be some curveballs, and he hopes they offer lessons.

“I think they’ll [the viewers] start out with preconceived notions and I think how it progresses will make them think differently. Not just from the perspective of our story, but also from the self-reflection that they’ll have,” he says.

Some of the things that happened during filming caught Tim off guard as well. While he can’t reveal his current relationships status — that would be a spoiler — he says being under the microscope of a film production actually benefited their relationship in some surprising ways.

“It really kind of made us analyze and examine our relationship in a much more positive fashion than I thought we would have been able to do,” he says.

One of Tim’s main takeaways from the show is that it’s not always a great idea to rely on the advice of family and friends.

“We have friends and family that try to be there for us, but it’s always biased,” he says. “People that care for you the most are going to try to paint a picture of you that’s somewhat rosy.”

He’s also valued learning from the experiences of other couples on the show. The relationships between cast members — who interact during tell-alls and other special episodes — aren’t always friendly. But Tim has no bad words to say.

“I feel like we’re this family, in a sense,” he says. “We’re all in different relationships in different areas of the world but going through a lot of the same challenges.”

A particular favorite of Tim’s is the relationship between single dads Kenneth and Armando. “I love being part of a season that has that story to tell as well, because it’s a similar situation [to mine], but it’s also something that is deeper than that and goes deeper than the show. It helps to break down stereotypes that I want broken down.”

He hopes his own story will speak to people in a similar way.

“One of the things I do like about this is that there are people out there who can find similarities to my story or her [Melyza’s] story.”

Tim hasn’t actually seen his segments yet, but he’s no longer worried about how he might be depicted.

“If you’re not really genuine and being honest with yourself, then you’re not going to like how you’re depicted,” he says. “I was 100% myself.”

He thinks watching the show back as it airs will be another learning experience.

“The show’s trying to craft the story in a way that makes sense to the viewer, but it’s all true and it’s all valid, and trying to see myself from an outside perspective allows me to see what I truly am compared to what I’ve been told I am,” he says.

The fact that he swore off social media a year ago certainly helps.

“I don’t really care if people are laughing at me, but it’s a lot better if people laugh with me,” he says.

90 Day Fiancé airs 8 p.m. Mondays on TLC.

I suspect dough boy came up with the "I cheated so I have to move over there" fucknuttery because he's so completely and utterly boring that "The Other Way" was the only franchise he qualified for (hence holding on to his job and his home "just in case"...yeah, his ass is coming back to the States).

I was disappointed when I saw him in the preview for the next episode.

I had forgotten all about him, and had hoped TLC had forgotten all about him and his red bloated teary face.

Blech.

I love this!  These two are never gonna work, as Maleeza (sp?) and her mom are NEVER gonna get over the cheating.  Not saying they should, but Maleeza errored in telling Mom about the cheating.  Don'y get me worng, Tim made the MAJOR error of cheating in the first place, but why do people tell theier PARENTS?  Like that will ever go well??

Mom might have pushed to find out why she returned home from the US earlier than planned? I dislike cheatstick anyway so I’m looking forward to Mama Melyza giving out to him.

On the one hand I appreciate this couple because they were an actual couple, not just another "we met on Foreign Cupid and she may really be a man" kinda couple. On the other hand...yawn. she's just in it for the cat.

In all fairness, if I was annoyed enough, I would haul him down there to berate him AGAIN for the cheating and yes......I would want my cat back!!!  I have two masks these days:  MN Vikings and one with kitties on it!!

Yep, I'd be in it for the added bonus of raking him over the coals again.
