My god, Lara is such a twunt. I cannot wait for her inevitable firing. Hannah is a better person than I am- I would have throat punched her in the galley.

I cannot stand Capt. Sandy, that micromanaging idiot.

No one else (including Hannah) bothers me that much yet.

Kiko is adorable. "F$ck you, carrots" is going to be my new catchphrase.

I think the proper diagnosis is sociopath. LOL!

Kiko's fuck you, carrots cake turned out beautiful. And as slow as he is at meals, other than shredding the carrots, he never complained once about making a cake. That might be a Below Deck first!

I disagree, if a worker is endangering the the quality of guest experience and Lara's insubordination definitely was, it's Hannah's role to tell the Captain.  It should have been quite telling that Hannah offered to work a short-handed.  She knows Sandy, she wants to be involved in everything, she's a classic micro-manager.  So although we saw Hannah telling Sandy about her issues with Lara, she obviously chose not to believe her or sided with Lara.  Listen to her backtrack now, even before it actually aired  Snippet from pre-season interview

"Wow," Sandy says of that interaction. "I was like, holy crap. I had no idea it was practically a fist fight in the galley. I didn't know that. Hannah doesn't tell me these things. I think if Hannah would come to me more often, I could help her navigate this."

"I always say to my crew, if you can't work it out downstairs and you bring it to me, someone usually gets fired. Who do you think I would've fired in that case?" she adds, saying she would’ve "immediately terminated" Lara had she known the truth about her behavior.

If Sandy was half the supportive manager/leader she thought we was, she would've quickly determined that the issue was Lara.  Ask the Chef his opinion, ask the third stew.  Heck, ask the deck crew who had to overhear everything.  Instead, because Hannah is far from her favorite, she sided with Lara and I can only guess how that works out for her.  So much for ensuring the best quest experience possible.

Well damn, I figured we would see her Tweeting excuses for how she ignored Hannah's concerns about Lara, Lara was so impressive. You know, her regular excuses. My guess is things get pretty ugly really fast next week if Sandy resorted to PRE SHOW deflection this time around. And Sandy, we've seen you ignore the concerns of your staff time and time again, only stepping in when it gets you more screen time.... or when you can make the situation worse than it was to begin with.

While I agree that Kiko could use help in the ‘time management’ area... why would they seat people so early if they knew lunch would take a while?  Sure they requested a certain mealtime but if there is a delay, why not explain it to them and provide some apps and drinks outside where they can at least enjoy the view while waiting?

Lara's demeanor doesn't even seem believable.  I don't see how she could have hidden her true colors long enough to get through an interview/audition, so I have suspicions.  Hannah's reactions seem genuine enough I guess, and as much as I am not a Hannah fan, I can say that I not only would have been fired, but possibly arrested for battery, lol, had a subordinate talked and acted in that way toward me.  Hannah handled it far better than I would have.  We'll see how it plays out, but I don't think even the amateur psychologist Sandy can handle that attitude.

Glad to see Malia stand her ground, and impress upon whats-his-name how it gon' be.  I'm a bit bugged by her calling her crew "boys".  It seems a bit double standardish to me, but I don't know if this industry runs like that.  It's not as dismissive as "sweetie" or whatever it was the crewman was calling her, but still.

Chef is adorable, but too slow.  How in hell does anyone in a position to be chef on a yacht NOT know what an over easy egg is?

Lara is completely insubordinate and unprofessional but this is BD.  I love that she is getting under Hannah's skin so I have no problem with her staying.

Hannah is not a good supervisor.  Jenna is still worse than Hannah but if Hannah can't speak in a calm and authoritative manner to Lara (or anyone else), she shouldn't be in charge.  And like every other season, as soon as she has issues with someone, she immediately runs off to blab about them to other crew members.

I didn't care much for Malia in her previous season but I'm changing my tune (so far) for this one.  She seems to be doing a good job and isn't being a hardass with her crew.

Kiko may be my favorite chef of any BD franchise so far.  He always has a smile on his face, he hasn't complained about having to make anything, the food looks good and he said "Fuck you, carrots!"  Win-win!  His only fault appears to be time management but as someone else pointed out, Hannah shouldn't be seating the charter guests if the food isn't ready.

Hannah does take it to Sandy and, instead of firing Lara, she tells Hannah to work it out with her.

It's her behavior that made all the difference in the world during her audition.  Had she been nice and cooperative, she wouldn't have been cast.  She's the train wreck who gets fired this season.  That's the script and she's sticking to it.

exactly. At least from what we saw, Sandy made no attempt to find out any information. Just said "I have faith in you, work it out." Though it looks like next week we get the three-some fireworks we all want to see.

She told Hannah that she deliberately showed up 30 minutes late for her shift.  That would have been a fire-able offense on any other situation that this crazy show.  Regardless of whether one cares for Hannah or not who would want to work with deliberately sets out to sabotage others and refuses to work with others?

I was in a restaurant in Canada that serves all day breakfast every day and they didn't know what over easy was!  Couldn't believe it.  OTOH - with Kiko - I'm wondering if the term is more North American and not a world wide term?

I considered that, but it would seem that if you cater to an international base, you should be familiar with at least the basics from the culture of your guests.  I know the preference sheet meetings are held right before they board, but I'm sure the chef is made aware of the season's charter guests well before their maiden charter each season.  Guess we aren't supposed to think it through that much.

NEVER heard about this term, neither my hubby, who is a (French) Chef and a restaurant owner. It's called "oeufs au plat" in French.

Since they are in Spain, they can call them sobre huevos fáciles, although I guess none of the crew are Spanish. More importantly, can we order eggs a la francais? (TM Countess LuAnne)

Lara is a pill. Hannah doesn't bother me nor is she a fave, but I felt her frustration. So if the guests were up before 7am, she wouldn't have been up to make coffee? That punishes the whole crew. Same with laundry. If the guests need fresh towels or whatever ironed (I don't go on fancy vacations), but Lara was in the crew mess, the crew would've suffered. It is selfish. I also find her stank attitude about everything obnoxious. Oh you've never been in love because you are so mean to them Lara? Aren't you just a cool girl (with zero evidence I feel like she is a "not like other girls" and that is a personal annoyance to me)? And who is mean to Kiko??

On these shows, I can usually enjoy someone who's a jerk because of the anticipation of the inevitable takedown of said jerk. Lara, however, is such a POS that the fun of the coming retribution isn't worth having to stomach watching her. She just really pisses me off.

This is going to be another hard season to watch. Once again, Sandy micromanaging in the galley. I love Kiko but I guess she’s going to be on his ass all season; I’m just glad that she ended up telling him his steak was ok. Lara and Hannah are both bitches!  It should be interesting to see who loses this battle. I like Malia a lot and I think she holds her own but I hope she doesn’t get a lot of disrespect from the deckhands - after last season I couldn’t go through that again.

Captain Sandy is like the enemy of her crew when she could be a support - her ridiculous nitpicking in front of the guests is actually undermining to me.  I think Lara is the bigger bitch if this is a competition and she’s insubordinate.

I've been to places where "over easy" was meaningless.  This included places like New Zealand and Australia.

Their omelettes are different too, as first not a lot of places offer it.

They seem to like poached eggs on muffins, toast, etc.

No hash browns as such either!

Every time she goes in looking for things to be wrong, all I can think about is she's affecting their tip. I'm sure the guests bring a set amount and most don't remove anything from it, but if I had a shit ton of money to plunk down for a tip, why would I just fork it all over if, due to the captain's questioning, I was reminded that service was slow or things weren't hot enough or I would have liked more sauce, at each and every meal.

And on the third day on the job!  Out in the real world, if you show up 30 minutes late your third day on the job because you don't LIKE your supervisor and you TELL said supervisor exactly what you did and why, you are going to be shown the door.  No ifs, ands or buts about it.  Any company would say "well, if that is how you feel, then here's a check for your time, buh bye."

Hannah doesn't irritate me as much as she irritates others in this forum but I've only been watching BDM regularly for about a season and a half.  I'm sure if I watched all of the previous seasons, I'd have a different opinion of her.  Having said that, I've seen how petty she can be if she doesn't like you and I'm not impressed but still...  Lara isn't the supervisor.  I have to wonder, did she think she was going to be Chief Stew when she was offered the spot in the cast and then surprised to learn that she wasn't in charge?  There was something about her reaction in the first episode that made me question what she had been led to believe about her position on the show.

I was thinking the same. That kind of thing doesn't bother me but it sounds like Malia is sensitive (based on previews). She can't get away with calling out the "boys" when she is sensitive herself. Not a good look, especially as a leader.

So what’s Lars’s excuse for being a bitch to Kiko and Jessica?  If she’s running into assholes all day maybe she’s the asshole.

She really is a passive aggressive asshole, did we see what set her off or was it just Hannah telling her to stop cleaning up the crew mess and go to the laundry?

Honestly, I thought it is a thing in yachting (and every other job in the world) that things can change minute to minute and the crew knows that, it all relies on the guests and their whims...Lara is ill suited for a job that requires change without advance notice.

Hannah got confrontational quickly and should have had a different tact but either way Lara's attitude would be cause for dismissal, from personal experience when and employee has a chip on their shoulder, working with them will be impossible, Hannah told Sandy but Sandy waived her off so now it will affect service/guest experience.

Is it odd that I sympathize with Hannah?

Don't hate me.

I figured out who Lara reminded me of (in how I react to her)--Abi-Maria who was a Survivor contestant a couple of times.

I too am very uncomfortable watching Lara and I find them sort of gaslighty, sort of irrational/nonsequitur-ish, and Malia's tears would be nothing on my tears of aghast frustration at not being able to respond reasonable to her quicksand-shifting arguments and complaints and behaviors.

Ugh, ugh, ugh.

This is what I was annoyed about. If my lunch or dinner is late, I would just get up from the damn table and stretch out on a deck chair and read and maybe have a drink until the plates are ready. Because why would you sit there staring at your friends for over an hour for no good teason when you can stare at the gorgeous scenery. Except for breakfast. I wake up hungry and that can become hangry awful quick! There are some nice breakfast places where I live but the lines are too long so I won't wait around!!

I will never understand this 2nd vs. 3rd stew thing.  Chief needs to call them both seconds, which means “You are equal, you do this , you do that.  Now.”  Lara somehow seems to think Jessica works for her.

I’m not an orange juice fan, but I eat a whole orange every morning.

The only way I can eat eggs is scrambled, dry.  Some cheese in them is nice.
