Fashion (Turn to the Left)!: Movie Outfits You Love

Recommended Posts

I can't find any decent pictures but I loved pretty much every outfit Rene Russo wore in The Thomas Crown Affair (1999). Even that slutty dress! I normally hate slutty dresses because there are very few people who can pull them off without looking like utter trash. She manages to stop right at the line of daring. I'm sure good lighting helps too but still.

All I can say is, I know for a cold, hard, irrefutable fact that I will not have a body like that when I'm in my mid-40s. Hell, I barely had a body like that in my mid-20s. Oh, I want to hate Rene Russo...

Thank you!

Catherine Banning is a style icon.  Rene Russo is so sexy and cool in that movie.  Michael Kors did the wardrobe.  Soooooooooo good.  Hot movie!  Definitely in my favourites.

I stole a lot of the pictures from this great site:

https://www.featherfactor.com/2014/04/the-thomas-crown-affair-the-wardrobe.html

Maybe you'll get better results if you search "thomas crown affair michael kors".

I am also attracted to such events and in general to everything related to fashion because even when I was a child my parents developed this side in me. For this reason, I always like special clothes and when I go shopping, I waste a lot of time on it because I really have a special pleasure to buy clothes. Since I became a mom I have discovered that I really like to have nice pijamas compatible with my whole family from https://matchinggear.com/family-pajamas/ so I often order from and I love it because it is very cute.

I was in college back when Spike Lee's School Daze was released and I thought Dap was so cool. Gotta admit, the look didn't age that well. (Pukka shells, kente all the time.)

But Lawrence pulled it off spectacularly.

Promising Young Woman is... flawed.

But I'll give it this, not only is it an aesthetically gorgeous film, but Carey Mulligan's wardrobe is colorful and memorable. See, Hollywood wardrobe people? Other colors exist besides grey, black, and beige!

On that we can agree!

Hope you’re gonna post your full thoughts in the movie’s thread 😉

Bette Davis's dazzling evening gown from The Little Foxes is the perfect ensemble for evil Regina Giddens (she also rocks that Gibson Girl hair)!

You know one of the many reasons I love the Brandy and Whitney Houston Rogers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella? The costumes were absolutely amazing.

Doris Day was not only sensational in her film debut in Romance on the High Seas, but she got to sport a killer wardrobe to boot! I confess that her white dress during the "It's Magic" number  is ruined somewhat by those sloppy, unnecessary ties. Seriously, they're just distracting afterthoughts on an otherwise gorgeous ensemble (but that's just my own personal bias, since I prefer a more streamlined look).

Judy Garland's dress at the end of Strike Up the Band is too adorable, and I was able to find a color photo of it!

I love hats!  Not everyone can wear one.  Audrey Hepburn sure could though (from My Fair Lady)

It looks effortless but not everyone can pull off Faye Dunaway's look in Bonnie & Clyde

I can't pull off hats at all (my head is too big), so I envy those who can. Doris Day rocked the heck out of that little red bucket hat in Pillow Talk.pillow-talk-day-costume-1.thumb.jpg.75d9cd145f3a3828861b80547ec21f77.jpg

And Myrna Loy's hat from Evelyn Prentice just steals the movie.ScaryBriefDiplodocus-size_restricted.gif.3077f7713c91d83f94acc6cab5726d08.gif

Neither can I; they bounce off my hair, lol.    I've posted before but Kate Winslet is gorgeous in Titanic with the enormous hat

That is a great introductory shot, so iconic. Kate Winslet is a lovely woman, but she looked especially gorgeous in Titanic, and anyone who fat-shamed her then or now can promptly go to Hell and never come back.

I love hats, but also can't wear them. My daughter,  on the other hand, can wear any style hat from any time period. I'm rather jealous.

That era was really sad as far as attitude toward the body. Kate not only has a classically beautiful face, she actually has a conventionally attractive body too. She's a small woman with an hourglass shape. She's just one of the few big time actresses who actually has a little softness to her figure. It reminds me of when people say Marilyn Monroe was plus size. She was small too, just not modern era standard of small.

I mentioned the red dress in Pretty Woman on the first page.  Here's that picture, plus a couple more cute/beautiful dresses.

And Kate's softness works in a period piece.  The ideal woman of 1914 was not stick-thin, nor did she have noticeable muscles.  She did some physical activities like horseback riding, playing sports like tennis, and taking walks; but nothing that would make her excessively sweaty.  Kate has the body of this woman.

Exactly! That wasn't the era of low carb diets and gym memberships. Even now, a lot of men still prefer softness and curves to women who are stick thin or very muscular.

Doris Day in Love Me or Leave Me. She wore some great costumes, but it's really difficult to find good quality color photos of them.

She's singing "Ten Cents a Dance" in that photo, and I really wish it were in color because it just doesn't do it justice, but here's the performance from the film. I love her hat, you can see it the best when she takes her bow at the end.

Thanks for the video clip, you're right, it does look even nicer in color :). I like the design of it.

I like the song she's singing, too. May have to check out this movie sometime.

Lara Jean's outfits in all 3 To All the Boys I Loved Before movies were great. I liked how colorful they were and the layering (I hope that is the correct word).
