Yeah that's the thing. I feel now with Roseanne gone, Dan has put himself in a situation where he either expected "someone else" to fix an occuring problem. I could even see the opposite, with him being told: "Hey I have this great quick money payout" and. yet Dan can't decide on it himself because Roseanne isn't telling him to make a stupid move. Even though he basically did that with Jackie getting her way to get the Lunchbox back from Darelene. Where Dan knew he was most likely getting WAY behind on the mortgage and should have said: "You know what?" "No, I NEED THE MONEY, I'm two months behind on house payments." "Fuck you Jackie, I need the money more!"

That issue wasn’t about money though. It was either give Jackie and Becky a chance with the restaurant that Bev already owned, or rent it to the guy who can pay the rent. The choice that Darlene made, with pressure from Dan I might add, was ridiculous. However, Dan was never going to get any money out of it.

Ben needs to run far far away. He's right that it won't be a one time thing. He's already getting sucked in. How many times will he need to bail out the Conners before he snaps?

The Connors need to take responsibilities for their own actions and stop using others. On the other hand, Dan needs to ask for help before it's too late. Tell his kids. If they knew it was so dire, maybe they'll actually stop thinking only of themselves and get up off their asses to figure out a plan. He also could have swallowed his pride and asked Bev for a loan. She will give him passive aggressive crap but at least the debt hole wouldn't have kept getting bigger and bigger.

If I were Ben, I would've been done after the "arrogant bastards" comment towards his parents.  If anyone is an arrogant bastard it would be Darlene unemployed and living rent free in her parents home with her two kids, quitting or getting fired from jobs she feels are beneath her, mouthing off at cops and getting thrown in jail and left her boyfriend to watch her kids for the night when he offered to pay bail.

Wow. That's an odd way to end things. Is the show guaranteed to come back next season?

Emilio should fit right in with the Connor family.  He has zero respect for the law and feels entitled to do whatever he wants, Becky and Darlene feel entitled to live rent free, and, Dan, oh Dan, you would have had that house paid off years ago if you did what you should have done work wise rather than what you preferred to do.  Run Ben!  Run!

I'm pretty sure that the show will be back I don't see why it wouldn't be renewed; the holdup in renewing is most likely because of the virus, but we should be hearing something soon.

That being said..

I loved Dan & Louise tonight in the finale! They continue to be adorable and so funny together! They are definitely perfect for each other. Katey needs to be upped to series regular next season that'd make me so happy!

The bank guy... I think he was in an old episode of Roseanne. Remember when Mrs. Wellman hit Roseanne with her car?  Dan found a lawyer who was incompetent. I think the actor that played the lawyer is the same one who now plays the bank guy

No, Stephen Root played the incompetent attorney.

The bank guy was played by Joel Murray (I had to look up the actor's name - I just recognized him as "Pete" from Dharma & Greg).

That must be it. I knew he looked familiar.

Am I the only one who thinks John Goodman’s voice sounds a lot different than it used to?  I don’t know how to describe it. Almost gravelly and more like an elderly voice?

Did anybody find the Jackie end tag incredibly distasteful? Why would Jackie be lecturing people about cultural appropriation? She's starting to sound like some batty old woman half the time.

I think it was to show that she was still loopy from the 12 energy drinks she had before the trip combined with her life-coach training, i.e. telling other people what they're doing "wrong."

When Darlene mentioned that she would go back working at the casino to help pay the debt for the mortgage, I am wondering why she didn't go back there the moment she and Ben were fired. The job at the casino came with medical insurance.

Both Darlene and Becky should be contributing to the household expenses: food, utilities as well as some rent.

Why the Hell does Darlene think that the waitress job in the casino is just waiting for her?

She only got that job because Krystal was retiring and put in a good word for her to get hired in the first place. It pays well for Langford and comes with benefits. Not to mention she was a lousy waitress because it was another job her broke ass was way too good for.

Also. if the next season takes Corona into account, the casino is probably closed.

It's expected to.  It has not been formally renewed, but ABC has said consistently it wants another season, and John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, and Lecy Goranson have already signed new contracts (everyone is year-to-year on this show).  COVID-19 obviously makes it uncertain when it could go back into production, and some of the actors may have scheduling conflicts that will have to be dealt with, but the intention is for a season three, yes.

That makes sense; this was episode 20, and season two had a 19-episode order they added one more to along the way.

I stand corrected. Thanks for the info. I actually went to IMDB and look around to find out the info (shoulda just read these posts lol). I saw the Friends episode with Mr. Heckles and the cat a few nights ago so it stuck in my head.

And many of you are right - Jackie is acting a little too shrill and Bev-ly lately. It actually seems intentional. Jackie's getting near Bev's age where she moved into the retirement community ("I'm 63 - I feel 63"). Gotta have a wacky unmarried aunt floating around for comic relief. I hope if the writers ever come on here and read the comments that we get to see JERRY AND ANDY come back. Maybe Jerry could help Dan with the construction business. Throw Andy into the mix as well. Oh wait, how about Fred? Imagine Fred coming back to Lanford for a visit!! (hint hint)

I hope it was already paid to the camp and is non-refundable.  Although once the coronavirus hits, camp will be virtual, so who knows.

Darlene only got that job based on Krystal's recommendation!  And she even though that was beneath her, when it was good pay with medical benefits for her kids.  Didn't she quit because she got sick of some guy hitting on her?

This is an excellent point.  I know he wasn't a kid, but if the money went to Darlene and Becky, they could have given it to Dan.

I read an article about the writers of the show, and all the female writers said they have never met a man like Ben who would put up with that.  Truth.

I hated Jackie's bit at the end, but I did like the smackdown she got.

I'm still going to watch, but except for Dan and Louise it's mostly hate-watching.

Well, he is elderly. But, yes, since the revival I have noticed the change in his voice.

Ben is too good for Darlene and I hope he doesn't turn into the financial savior for the Conners. This Dan-save better be a one time thing.

The season had some pretty awful episodes but the final few episodes saved the season, IMO. They really need to tone down Darlene's everything (like they did with Harris) next season because she has quickly become my least favorite character on the show.

Shouldn't Dan's bike be worth at least two grand, if not more?

The most poignant part of the episode was when Ben said that Dan has very few options as a 65 year old construction worker. He is already in not to great a shape, how long will he be able to continue to work?

If they include the current crisis in the next season (they already said, they will), it'll probably spell financial troubles for the Lunchbox aswell. And Ben's weird magazine ...

Very true, the Lunchbox be in HORRIBLE shape. Unless they worked with curbside pick up, though I could see Jackie though enjoying the fact that she would have to social distance from Bev and a lot of banks pushed back foreclosures because of COVID-19. I can see that being Dan's tempary bandaid of not losing the house when the show starts again.

I just assumed that Ben, Darlene & Becky were drawing unemployment.  And isn't Harris 18 now?

And I don't know how long Becky & Jackie were in Texas, but they have a 72 hour waiting period for marriage licenses.  It's not Vegas where you can get married at the drop of a hat.  The license costs more for out-of-state residents too.  Just a stupid plot line to think all that would happen, and Jackie would be an accessory.

I said something similar about the restaurant in Bob's Burgers, but actually if they did focus on carryout or delivery, they could be doing relatively well, especially if you only have family working. My kid works at a pizza place and it's doing very well these days.

IF the Lunchbox does that. We have two local dinners here who did that and are only opened from breakfast to lunch. They went with straight carry out and have been doing fine. COVID-19 pandemic is TOO BIG to be completely ignored by entertainment world going forward. In fact some shows that are done digitally are already acknowledging it. The problem is, considering how this episode left off. If they return late September. COVID-19 would work in the shows favor if the bank postponed foreclosure as a result and the Lunchbox took MAJOR advantage of curbside and even Mark making a pick up app to work with UberEats/Doordash. That would in all favors to keep the Conners going. Otherwise the way it is everyone would be living in Jackie's apartment at the moment living straight with Darlene and Ben.

It’s horrifying and frustrating to watch them lose a house they’ve had for so long, especially when the house was probably brought for $60-70k way back then. I’m comparing the value to my parents house that was brought in 1980. My family was basically the Connors with a mom working in a garment factory and a dad working as a fry cook. Three kids too. So their income was the same or even less then the Connors. The difference is they stuck to their jobs no matter how hard it got and paid off the mortgage.

With how long the Connors have been paying and with all the multiple mortgages, how much have they paid to the bank?

At this point you really do wonder especially if Dan was $4K behind and even when the show returned as Roseanne two years ago. You really want to know what was going on with Dan and Roseanne. I mean even in the time line, All 3 Kids were gone for a good portion of years and the Lunchbox didn't go out until 2008 and also what lead to Jackie becoming a life coach later on. It was the reveal that Bev still had ownership that really didn't make sense. She should have cashed out and ran.

I was shocked that they even brought up it taking several years for Emilio to apply for a waiver and that he was blowing it by coming back without authorization. So I guess I'm inclined to hand wave the marriage issues.  (And for all we know, Becky may not even know that the ceremony wasn't legal.)

Maybe Emilio will help get the drywall business back in the black.  None of the Conners have much business sense.

Really bad episode, I don't think I liked much of anything.  Ben is a good addition to the show, so that's a plus.  Jackie needs to be completely changed, such a shame for a talented actress.  Darlene, the less said the better.

It's like they made the worst decisions for Dan and Becky and stuck with them.  I'm already not watching live....may not watch at all next year although I do have such a fondness for the Conner family (Roseanne included).  And I like Louise too.

In that town, the house was probably bought for $15,000 or less back then   My parents bought a small ranch for that in 1972 in central  Illinois. They sold it about 15 years ago for 79,000.

When I'm able to watch this season finale for free, I will, because who doesn't love to watch a good train wreck, right?  (My TV doesn't get ABC OTA and I have to wait for ABC All Access and ABC.com to air their latest episode eight days later, because Hulu at Casa de CrystalBlue is in pause mode atm.)

Judging from all of this season up to the previous epi about Dan's CPAP and buttering Louise's biscuit, I can say aside from Katey Sagal and sparks of Lecy, I'm hate-watching this show.

They should change the category of The Conners from sitcom to shitcom.  Pathetic.

That would make sense. The kids age was always matched up with the actors by a year and Sara Gilbert is a year older than me. I was born in 1978 and if it is right that Roseanne and Dan were done around 71, 72 and got married right out of school and preggers with Becky. Yeah, they probably spend between $14K-20K on the house, especially for a two story with full basement and three bedrooms. So, even with refinancing, they should have had the house paid off in 2000 to 2003 long before the 2008 crash.

The show kind of wants to have it both ways. They want to tackle serious issues, but they don't want to deal with all the red tape that goes along with them, and expect us to handwave all these inconsistencies and leaps of logic by pleading "just a sitcom, don't take it so seriously." You can't tackle serious issues if you don't take them seriously.

I simply cannot believe someone as cute, charming, likeable, calm, sane, etc., as Ben would choose to get serious with Darlene who is a shrill, controlling, demanding, broke, cheating, lying loser.  Aside from a decent sense of saracasm and caustic humor, what is there to actually like about Darlene?!

Was hoping they would keep Becky single and have her be a dating single mother.

Will be interesting to see what they do with next season.

Fact is that Darlene shouldn’t have 4K.  If their magazine is doing so great (loll-so realistic that story line is) then she should have been paying Dan rent, Darlene is the one who moved three people into dans house, why should his forty something daughter and her two kids be dans problem financially.  Ben doesn’t see a problem with this scenario?  Another example of how Darlene is self centered with shit morals and no judgment and it should be a huge red flag.  I can’t believe that Louise isn’t pointing any of this out tbh.  Also let’s not forget that like two or three episodes ago she had nothing but maxed out credit cards  and admitted she would be on the street if not for dan.   Wow that magazine sure blew up overnight I guess.  Who knew that a print magazine about criminals (and not even the only one of its kind ) was such a hot item.
ben has some gall acting like dan is a burden.  He doesn’t think that Darlene mooching off of him all this time and making him support her two kids while he was at it wasn’t a burden on dan?  Yeah supporting three people for darlenes family plus top of Becky and her kid too is a huge burden for a senior citizen.  And let’s not forget it was Darlene who talked Becky into keeping the baby and volunteered her rent free living at dans too.
ben won’t break up with her tho.  He is a one trick pony kind of a character and there to support darlenes choices and to tolerate her crap and be a doormat in general.

So all these posts about how they should include COVID-19 next season reminded me...this show started out being a few years behind us, right? I am certain I read that this was the case. Harris was born in 1996 but was obviously not over 20 when the show started. At what point did they say "the hell with that!"?

They had Mark watching the debate for 2020 candidates live so that is the one instance I can think of where they just sped up time. Is anyone in the know about when they decided to just drop the whole few years behind thing? Or did they just forget they were even doing that?

So they all just live there and don’t help Dan out at all with the mortgage? Wtf? Maybe when you are in your 20s but they are in there 40s with families. They should all be chipping in a bit. Wtf is Harris doing she lives there doesn’t she? Idk I hate her so I FF her a lot lol.

And even that gets old if you have to live with it everyday. It really wears down your spirit living with someone when everything that comes out of their mouth is a negative put-down, even (especially?) if they disguise it as "humor." There's always truth in how they/Darlene really feel in those types of comments.

Whenever Darlene hears something she doesn't like, she attack instead of talk.

I don't think the writers understand how abrasive Darlene comes off. All of her dialogue is very quippy. That was sort of her identity in the original show, to be sarcastic and caustic like her mother, so very little of what she says is serious. But taken at face value it's problematic to say the least.

I think that's the key. When Roseanne was around, she was an equal foil for Darlene's acidity, without that it just looks like she's picking on people who can't dish it back. Becky comes closest but Roseanne was just as caustic as she is. They really need to soften her a little.

1997, actually. Although they clearly de-aged her.

And no, I think everything is supposed to be in the present day. The first episode of this show in 2018 was three weeks after Roseanne's death, but I think everything else after that was supposed to be on our overall timeline in the real world.

If Jackie's energy drink binge would have almost given her a heart attack but would've worn off in the two hours Becky predicted, why was Jackie still at the border at night after the long day Becky and Emilio spent with Beverly Rose, and getting married somehow, spouting off the ridiculous ignorant and inane comments about people appropriating the Mexican culture?

If Jackie's energy drink binge would have almost given her a heart attack but would've worn off in the two hours Becky predicted, why was Jackie still at the border at night after the long day Becky and Emilio spent with Beverly Rose, and getting married somehow, spouting off the ridiculous ignorant and inane comments about people appropriating the Mexican culture?

Maybe she took a nap?  🙂

And how did Becky and Jackie go to Mexico? I seriously doubt that the Conners have passports.

I would hope that Becky applied for a passport for herself when Emilio was deported and for the baby after she was born. She should have known that at some point she would want to take the baby to see her father. As for Jackie, I'm wondering if she didn't have a passport and that is why she was stuck at the border in the tag.

Where was the bridge they met on; did they actually officially cross the border? (Which has me wondering where they got married...)

Becky and BR crossed the bridge into Mexico and spent the day with Emilio. They showed her crossing back over into El Paso, TX where he had to stop on the middle of the bridge that was still officially Juarez, MX. She would have crossed back into Mexico in order to marry him, then go back to El Paso leaving him behind in Mexico.
