S01.E06: Oof! I Did It Again

Recommended Posts

@Yours Truly your entire post is perfect, and when I found myself trying to ‘like’ it multiple times, I figured I’d just say thank you.

I also agree that Parker’s a good dude. He keeps getting the short end of the stick and I can’t understand why beyond him being caught between a dysfunctional couple. He follows Paget’s instructions and gets in trouble, he volunteers to work the late and Paget takes credit with the captain, he asks a fair question in the face of Jenna’a favoritism, and she flips out. He’s being gaslighted, something I never thought I’d say about a young white bro.

Captain Glenn really dropped the ball. I expect Captain Lee to ignore the safety of his crew but Glenn seemed more hands on. When he saw what kind of handsy assholes these mooks from the Island were he should have made his presence felt to tamper down the drunken antics of the douchebros.

I used to manage a bar in Midtown and this s is type of bullshit you would get on Paddy’s Day. You need to have a bouncer to keep these mooks in line. They are flat out punks and would fold like a cheap valise if you got in their face.

It seems that Glenn, Jenna and Adam dropped the ball on this charter and failed to support the crew.  When he first observed the guest's behavior, Glenn should have hired extra staff to act as bouncers.  Even though he did not know about what Madison had been through, he should have known that these guys were drunken pigs and acted to protect the female crew members.  Jenna should have made sure that Madison was not alone on service when these assholes returned from the bar,  especially  when they returned to the boat with a bunch of drunk women and a DJ.  Adam should have gotten his smug ass out of bed and made snacks for the drunken guests.  These guests were loud, obnoxious and had hired a DJ.  There is no way Jenna and Adam did not hear the party going on, they just chose to ignore it and let Madison deal with everything while they slept.  I can't imagine Kate or Hannah not assisting their stews in a chaotic situation like this.  Jenna really sucks as a chief stew.

Except the producers are largely responsible for the bouncers and who gets on that boat.

And they gleefully filmed that guy picking up Madison because they knew it was definitely going to air.

I wonder how many of them still live with Mommy or if any of them are in a committed relationship with an actual person, and not just their mirrors and gym equipment!

What’s most upsetting about this to me is the thought that many of their Mommy’s would excuse this behavior. I would be humiliated and devastated to see my son act this way towards anyone.
When I hear someone say ,”this is not who I/we are”- I say bullshit. This is exactly who and what you are.

I questioned Paget's judgment in having Ciara work late the first night and go by herself to pick up a boatload of drunken charter guests in the middle of the night...was so glad that Parker volunteered to work the next night.

And then Paget took credit for the idea with the captain!  What a tool.

Ciara is really grinding on me.  Nothing makes her happy.

Don’t walk so loud?   Because some passed out hammered guests are “sleeping”?    “I’m totally self-sufficient”  “I’m lonely”  “I need my alone time!” “flirting doesn’t bother me” as she pulls out the knife....

Then she sleeps right through the drunken DJ bimbo party.

I’m impressed the louts made it to the club and back without any incidents ashore.

Tomahawk steaks so the Neanderthals can beat each other with the bones.  Too funny!

Adam does get in some good lines, but is still gross.

And what bar/club closes at 11 PM?, Chief stew.

Jenna, your 90’s mean girl yuck face is "palpably repulsive".  As if!

Props to Paggg for the repair job, minus points for the whining.  It was his responsibility to secure the vessel.

Madison should have immediately woke up Jenna and/or the Captain and told them what was going on. These mooks were afraid of that and explicitly told her not to say anything. Worrying about a tip is not an excuse. She needed to speak up.

If Madison had woke up Jenna or the Captain and they didn’t do anything then it is on them. If she covered it up then it is on her. When Johnny Damon’s wife was starting a fight with a rando who came on the boat Colin woke up his superior Joao who gave the drunken mook the bums rush off the boat. It doesn’t look like there is anyone who could handle themselves with these roided up assholes so yeah maybe they should have a bouncer to keep them in line. That’s what a bar does. You don’t expect the female staff to handle that.

These are the kind of guys who live up in strip Clubs. The number one rule in strip clubs: no touching.

Can we all agree to stop making excuses for crappy behavior. Blame production, really?  Can well behaved, socially appropriate adults be “encouraged “ to be sexually aggressive? Assaultive? Assholes?

Glenn is the ultimate authority and he totally abdicated his responsibility. I expect that from a senile Captain Lee but not from a hands on guy like Captain Glenn.

Not sexually aggressive per se.

Just drink up, make yourselves at home behind the bar, don't wait for drinks to be served, help yourselves, so you have that guy popping open champagne bottles -- and he's flicking the cork into the ocean.

Put it this way, they have a limited amount of filming time or rather time is money so they have to get as much "air-able footage" as possible.

Air-able on Bravo means people getting drunk, loud, grabby, etc.

I'm guessing they learn from experience that they can't have guests who are sedate, introverted or those who don't drink or isn't demanding.  They have to up the yield ratio by casting the right types of guests and then prodding them on to act out.

No I'm not making excuses for their behavior.  Just because the producers encouraged certain behavior doesn't excuse the guests at all.

But some of the blame should lie with production, since they want to get certain results or behaviors on camera.

Charter contracts should include a clause that says a tip of x% will be charged if the charter is cut short due to inappropriate behavior of a primary or guest.

Seriously. She is such a fun sponge. I hated that Paget told her not to sound too bossy because it sounds like something someone would tell a woman, but in this case, I think it is just her.

I think I love Madison. She is such a hard worker, managed to be professional in the face of that complete dickbag, and whip up a plate of grilled cheese? Plus she was very cute last week trying to cheer up Ciara (good luck).

I think Madison is an amazing person to be able to wait on those guys, provide late-night drinks and munchies, and also be concerned about everyone's tip. But I have to agree with you that she should have gone to Jenna and explained what was going on. Jenna should have made the decisions from there. It's the chief stew's responsibility to figure out how to mitigate the situation while still keeping the tip in mind. It actually would have been nice to see if Jenna is capable of doing something besides drying dishes and flirting with Adam.

Madison is in danger of turning herself into a martyr. That's a good way to eventually blow up at people who didn't have a clue you were so upset, or get burned out on the job. She seems like a genuinely nice person and a great stew so hopefully it doesn't come to either of those.

Everyone is fully aware they are being filmed for television. I felt the fellow who picked her up was regretting his actions almost immediately as he kept himself separate from his group, and did not look as though he was enjoying himself. I can well imagine what he was thinking, and YES Madison, NO TIP is worth being manhandled by anyone.  As soon as he told her not to 'say anything', you knew he was thinking, "I'm f**ked". Madison, you're on TV, your ass is covered. We all saw what happened and feel for you. That being said, I am SO grateful the many times I displayed bad behaviour, as a young adult, are not on a permanent record for all to see. As soon as I feel outraged and judgemental with this show, I also feel blessed that my life wasn't potentially ruined because of my idiotic, youthful decisions. (I thought I was so forward thinking in my twenties, and I was anything but.) I am still embarrassed over bad behaviour I witnessed but kept quiet about. I have certain friends who stayed in my life, and I still apologize and thank them for sticking it out with me. Not everything we do needs to be shared. If only this generation understood this.

I have a feeling "in real life" this behaviour isn't ignored or placated. This is all for the show. I would put money on Parker telling his superior et el what was going on with Madison, and no way would a young female be left alone on 'nights' with these idiots. Sorry, just not buying it. But it sure does have viewers talking online. And the fake drama when the charter guest accuses Jenna of lying and trying to cheat him. God, I hope that man is single. (Imagine being married to that?)

I am a little surprised that Adam is choosing to adopt this crap attitude this charter. When he was goading Jenna into being harder on the stews, and telling her to threaten to fire Georgia's ass, I thought - "Who are you?". He clearly forgets the many times he should have been fired during his charter with Sandy.

Ciara scares me a little. She has a very intense face. She does not seem to have any lightness or carefree in her personality; no wonder Paget is drawn to “vivacious” (her word, good description) Georgia after years with sour Ciara.
They seem like a boring old married couple.  Yawn...

The guests were the very definition of “douche”. I wish Captain Glenn had turned the boat around and thrown their entitled Shingles dicks off.

Adam reads high on the BS meter to me. He wants to “take it slow” with Jenna?? Suuure. More like, he wanted a boat-mance for the cameras but isn’t truly that into her. Dick. Fake dick. (and I don’t even like Jenna)

Excellent point. This behaviour also reminded me of the mentality towards entertainers and athletes. This group reminded me of our college football team, where everyone knew that showing up without an escort at one of their parties would place you in a dangerous situation. I would like to think they only represent a small % of professional men YET, once in a group, bad behaviour increases. In today's camera-based society, this behaviour needs to be called out, always.

If nothing else, the Captain would notice all the glass on the deck and stop that nonsense. That is dangerous behavior. It looks like someone gets cut next week. Also, how much of that broken glass ended up in the sea?  All these men were ass holes.

Ciarra should never been assigned to drive the men, in the tender alone late at night. I know a cameraman was there, but, it did not look safe to me.

What was up with the one older guy who was wearing a business suit when they partied? He seemed like he was on his phone all the time.

You know, this show might become watchable if we saw the 'right' staff schooling entitled guests? Just think back to how satisfying it was to see that guest fall into the water. Even a simple plot showing a guest recognizing how out of line they are behaving? Otherwise, no one appears redeemable.

I don't know who is more disgusting to me...the biggest group of bitches to ever grace a charter, or the crew who were all aware of their bitch ass behavior which began "alarming" Jenna the second they got on the boat, yet they all (sans Parker) left Madison alone to deal with it all.

Georgia has a nice voice...completely generic and unoriginal...but nice! I don't like her though. Quit flirting with people's boyfriends in front of them (or at all) you vivacious piece of shit.

Why should Madison go to Jenna - she hasn't shown that she has any leadership skills or willingness to mitigate a situation so far, why would Madison expect anything supportive from her now?

But ditto - so happy that I did not do most of the stupid stuff that I did back in my late teens, 20s and 30s during the era of the constant cameraphone.

Just as I suspected, they were specifically cast to do outrageous things.

Sounds like many of them wouldn't have the cash to actually charter a luxury yacht.  And even those who do, Bravo may pick up the tab including fronting the cash for the supposed tip.

They will probably leave a good tip, which is why Madison is supposedly over the lifting incident.

This. She was also afraid to wake up Adam even though the guests were demanding food at 3am.  Why?  Because she knew she's get no support. She'd already seen how Jenna & Adam treated Georgia and Adam had just yelled at her during dinner service for daring to clean a smudge off a plate.

Say what you want about both Kate & Hannah but both of them will work earlies or lates as needed. Jenna does neither.

For real, I thought he was somebody’s dad or accountant.

Poor Madison- aside from the emotional trauma, that guy had to have left her ribcage badly bruised.  I think another reason she didn’t report it is because she knew Jenna (worst chief stew ever) would have been completely useless in such a crisis.

I hope this guy’s entire future (personal and professional) is tainted by this incident.  I don’t even think he can blame alcohol - he sounded perfectly coherent when he snapped ‘don’t tell anyone’

I agree about the rib cage. When I was in high school, one of my guy friends gave me a bear hug and cracked my rib!

I also agree that Jenna would be useless in a crisis but, as I mentioned in another thread, I still wish Madison had told her. That way we could have seen Jenna attempt (and most likely fail) to handle a true chief-stew issue.

The way it is now, whenever this whole thing comes up on the show itself, on talk shows, twitter, etc., Jenna will always be able to say, "Well, if Madison had told me, I would have handled it perfectly."

I don't like Jenna! I don't want her to have that ammo of "I wasn't told" to protect herself from critics!

I think she ruined her "ammo" when she said straight away that she'd seen guests drink hard before, but the rate that those guys were going was "alarming". Then, they proceeded to act like the bitches they are throughout the day being EXTREMELY demanding and obnoxious....and she decides to leave one person on lates? Aside from any safety standpoint, even if Andre the Giant was put on service, there should have been another person to help, and Princess Adam should have been the one dealing with the food.

The guy with the phone was the one who had been on two Below Deck Med cruises and was the guy who organized this group of misfit toys. He was most likely checking in with his wife and was not part of the shenanigans since he was well aware that he was being filmed and wasn’t going to step on his dick like these other wanabes.

I could have sworn that initially Jenna viewed Madison as the competent one, and Georgia was simply useless? But for some reason, between 3 and 4, Georgia became competent and Madison was considered crap. Madison was the one helping Georgia get through Jenna's rude comments.
