Season 4, the final season, is coming 7/31/23.  Never saw it before but this is a summary of the show which is in my DVR display for the show and also on Rotten Tomatoes:

Quote

"Breeders" explores the paradox experienced by nearly all parents, the willingness to die for one's children coupled with the near-constant desire to kill them. Paul is a caring father who discovers he's not quite the man he thought he was. His partner, Ally, runs a recording studio, makes Paul laugh and has the ability to read a story to their children while she's technically asleep. In this honest and uncompromising comedy, Paul and Ally are juggling full-time careers, aging parents, a mortgage, upheavals in their relationship and the unenviable curveballs of parenting their young children, Luke and Ava. When Ally's estranged father Michael appears on their doorstep, the family essentially takes on a third child three quarters of the time, but this one comes with baggage and opinions. Paul's own parents, Jackie and Jim, are on hand to help out, but their generation does parenting a little differently.

Meanwhile, this is a summary of season 4 on the FX site:

Quote

In season four of FX’s Breeders, it’s been five years since we last saw the Worsley family, caught up in the dramatic events at the end of season three — “Paul” (Martin Freeman) and “Ally” (Daisy Haggard) on the verge of splitting up, “Jim” (Alun Armstrong) and “Jackie” (Joanna Bacon) in turmoil, “Luke” finding a new relationship and “Ava” mending an old one.

This season of Breeders brings the biggest parenting challenge that Paul and Ally have ever faced, as 18-year-old Luke (Oscar Kennedy) drops a bombshell at Christmas dinner that will change everyone’s lives forever. No longer in Luke’s shadow, 16-year-old Ava (Zoë Athena) experiences her own bombshell moment as she meets and immediately falls for the charismatic “Holly” (Jessie Williams). Paul and Ally continue to try, fail and try again as they face these latest parenting challenges, while also having to support the increasingly troubled Jim and Jackie.

The 10-episode fourth season is produced by Avalon and FX Productions for FX and Sky. Academy Award®-nominee and double Emmy® Award-winner Simon Blackwell is showrunner. Breeders is created by Blackwell, double Emmy Award and Directors Guild of America Award-winner Chris Addison and Emmy and BAFTA®-winner Martin Freeman, who also stars alongside BAFTA-nominee Daisy Haggard. Executive producers are Blackwell, Addison, Freeman, Jon Thoday, Richard Allen-Turner, Rob Aslett, David Martin, Toby Welch and Michael Wiggs. Kenny Tanner is producer.

If you watch the promos FX is running now, you can guess what Luke’s bombshell is.

Five years after season 3, which aired in 2022!  So the kids will again be played by new actors.  I think Ava was barely still a toddler in season 1.

Interesting that they will cover most of Luke and Ava’s childhoods but parents and grandparents won’t have aged as much.  But the adults and seniors have gone through a lot of changes in their lives as well.

Or so the show is trying to depict.
