S02.E06: Bury Me Dead

Recommended Posts

Well, damn.  What was THAT at the end of the episode?  Oh wait.  Now I get it.  That was the "weapon" that was mentioned so many times.

If I'm recollecting things correctly, the grid that encloses the whole planet was built by an unknown, now-long-dead civilization.  The original Harlan was able to claim the uninhabited planet for settlement because he found a weakness in the grid that allowed him to sneak in.  And now people (and supplies) come in and out by being needle-casted through that one small gap in the shield.  Is that right?

The civilization that built all this is long dead and the archeologist who were digging into the past [literally] have been shut down.  (One of them was the now-unemployed AI who befriended Poe, right?)

So . . . somehow Quell figured out how to tap into the grid weapon.  When?  How?  Do we think this is something she discovered as a result of being buried alive for hundreds of years under those glowing roots?

Speaking of those glowing blue roots -- is anyone else having a flashback to both the movie "Avatar" and the TV Show "The Dark Crystal:  Age of Resistance."  Didn't they both feature blue glowing trees in a key plot point?

While I've been enjoying Anthony Mackie's take on Kovacs (especially when he's allowed to be more of a wiseass), bringing in this other Kovacs really makes me wish we could have a series/season that just focuses on Will Yun Lee's version.  Granted, as much as I love him hear and as Park on The Good Doctor, I feel like in a just world, Lee would be getting opportunities to head his own television show.

So, this Kemp guy was actually a plant this entire time by Danica, and the rebellion was basically created in part of whatever her grand plan is.  I do like how she has ended up being the main antagonist here, and not Carrera/Yager.  Hell, I wouldn't end up being surprised if this all ends with him and Kovacs having to put aside their differences and team up (that already seems to be happening with Kovacs and... well, the other Kovacs!)

Despite Rei being dead, Dichen Lachman is still finding ways to get ample screen time here!

Damn, whatever is going with Quellcrist allows her to control the grid and basically turn it into a giant laser beam?!  Nice!

Trepp is right behind Poe as my favorite character this season due to Simone Missick's "You serious with this shit?!" reactions to pretty much every thing that Kovacs does.

I'm on my second viewing of the whole season and I FINALLY figured out something important.  I couldn't understand why Rei was so vicious as to bury Quell alive and keep visiting and torturing her.  Yes, she was jealous that her brother found someone else to love but . . . damn.

However after tonight's viewing I FINALLY understand that when Quell betrayed the Envoys she expected to be able to save both herself AND her brother, and she expected to get rid of Quell at the same time.  But she ended up saving Quell instead of her brother (due to Quell ending up in the shuttle with her) and her fury over THAT is why her need vengeance was so deep and so sick.

Yeah, I highly recommend a second viewing of this series.

So I’m guessing the planet itself, through the song spire trees has some how invaded Quell and is part of what’s separating her mind- the planet is taking over to kill the founders for whatever horrible thing they did to the elders when they first came to the planet.

I’m assuming quell’s distress is what has caused the orbitals to activate and fry the attacking team.

Danica really is some kind of something, basically creating a rebellion for her to fight against so that she can defeat them and declare herself all powerful, she is seriously playing all the angles here. Even Carrera/Yager is increasingly horrified by her! Interesting that they seem to be leading to him maybe even working with Kovas against Danica, putting everything else aside to deal with her.

Quellcrist can control tree lasers! Or something at least, but it sure was cool! Interesting seeing the two Kovacs together, it seems like new/old Kovacs is starting to get on the same page as "our" Kovacs, even if now he has to deal with him killing his sister because she became a mass murderer.

I love Trepps "wtf" reactions to everything going on around her.

Excellent episode! I couldn't stop laughing at Quell not releasing the two Kovacs. That was somewhat awkward. And younger Kovac is falling for her just like his other self did long ago.

Loved Trepp finding out that Kemp is fishy but just how fishy, I didn't realize.

Also loved Trepp and Quell making peace. And can I just say that Renée Goldsberry is even better this time than in the first season. This time, I have a much easier time believing that she is this charismatic leader.

Loved that Danica Harlan turns out to be so much worse than Jaeger/Carrera suspected. It was rather interesting that losing original Kovac affected him so much.

I wonder what old Harlan's role is in all this. I'm wondering what exactly happened back then. I hope we'll find out this season.

I'm kinda hoping this season will end with original Kovac surviving and then we will have Will Yun Lee in a third season if there is one. I like Mackie but he is a bit....basic in all this. He has a hard time smoothing the hard edges of Kovac. While Kinnaman was just overall boring and wooden, Mackie comes across as obsessed asshole most of the time. Maybe that's the point but it feels some layers are missing. It was fairly obvious in the scene between the two.
