Yes they were in the spin-off called The Other Way.

Could you all please help me outI thought I had watched all the train wrecks involved with this show but somehow I have missed "the blows we've been dealt" reference. I laugh anyway but would love to know where it came from.

Yes, it was Jenny and summit.  I believe Jenny proclaimed "what a blow we've been dealt!" when she was informed that the paperwork for their "marriage" would have to go to his parents house.

She had thought she and summit would get married privately because his parents didn't approve of her and their marriage was the only way she could stay in his country (India) past her six month visa.

Well, anyways, surprise! He was already married so they never could have married no matter where this fictional paperwork was sent!

Anyways, the humor in the line is just how she says it....it's pretty funny and I'd bet it's on YouTube

Because, for me, I do not want to hear of "I am a single mom trying to make ends meet" while she has laid out some money for tattoos.  My point was:  If she got them pre kids, fair enough.  If she got them and chose to get tattoos rather than food and then complain she is poor, that is my issue.

But truly?  Avery bugs me so much that she could be the tattooed lady at the carnival or no tats in sight....she still annoys me.

What about married couples with tattoos who try to make ends meet? 😅

Just seems easier to point fingers at the single moms.

Are these naive, gullible Americans who are getting scammed by foreign partners just universally naive and gullible in all matters or in all dating situations, I wonder. Or only when it's someone from another country?

I don't think they're really that gullible. In some cases I think they're really playing it up for TV time. For instance, I think Caesar was never planning on meeting Maria in Mexico.

I think Rose will be happy to be in A/C and not in poverty!!  But then again, (and I am not spoiling, I truly don't know) I think she will make a hard pass on coming here with him.  He has misrepresented himself, wants no more kids and there is the 31 year age gap.

Unless Rose is playing the odds and thinking that 31-year-age-gap means many fewer years he will be around and she'll still be young when he moves on.

Lisa has the barbed wire thing going on. I always thought that had something to do with being in prison? Or is that the teardrop cheek tat? Or both? Or neither?

I don’t think the barbed wire thing was ever tied to anything specific, just has a reputation of being cliche, cheesy, and overdone at this point. The teardrop tat does have to do with prison, or often to signify the person has killed someone, or maybe they just want people to think they’re tough (posing). My husband and I have a friend with one but I have always been afraid to ask why, hopefully it is the latter lol.

Darcy seems to forget she was married, she acts like she has never had a wedding.

I do think she has a fatalistic take on life, like she sets herself up for disappointment because she wants men to feel sorry for her and she can play the victim but men don't want that shit, they want a strong, self assured woman...I would never describe Darcey using those words, pathetic, yes but strong, self assured, no.

Yeah, her actions and her words don't align. On her social media posts and in her voiceovers, both places where she has a lot of control over image, she talks about being a "queen" and a "strong woman". I bet she does in her DMs to guys, too. But once you turn Darcy loose and let her go in person, she completely falls apart. She can't keep up the "strong woman" facade because she lacks such basic self esteem. So she goes for victim. But yeah, most guys don't want that shit. The damsel in distress thing can only go so far and she pushes WAY past that point.

Someone asked if her ex getting married last spring made things worse, but I'm betting it's partly her daughters coming of age. They're beautiful, natural teenagers and probably a reminder every single day that Darcy's, er, NOT natural and is no longer a young girl. Wouldn't surprise me if she's starting to feel some competition.

She reminds me a bit of Blanche Deveroux, the main difference being that Blanche would never let a man see her fall apart-much less beg for his attention.

Just based on what I read about the dangers of kidnapping in Sojaboy's town (Kaduna) where the crime rate is higher than Michael's city (Lagos) although both women are probably safe being surrounded by a camera crew. Lisa herself even said she'd "stick out like a sore thumb"

She is probably terrified about becoming a grandmother, which may not be all that far away.

Re tattoos I can only give my own interpretation but I don’t think anyone has said they are per se trashy.  Lord knows half the population seems to have them now, including many professionals and educated folk.  But they are a luxury in that they are a non-essential item, so to the extent anyone complains about their financial situation while displaying them is kind of inviting questioning,  True, they may have got them when they were single, but that money could have been saved for a rainy day.  You don’t have to spend every penny the minute you earn it.  So to me it is no different than If someone has a collection of electric guitars or first edition books but was crying poor.  And Avery doesn’t have a couple of modest ones.  She has sleeves that take many hours and cost a ton.  I collect CDs and people criticize that (I have thousands) but I don’t take many trips and drive a 2001 car.  And I don’t cry poor.

How hard do women take aging? I can imagine all the attention suddenly drying up would be hard to handle. Men overall don't seem to care that much, possibly because most men weren't anything special when young anyways, though there seems to be a decent amount of young men online who think that despite being unattractive now, simply getting older will make them desirable to young women - pointing out their stupidity leads to them getting hostile. It's unbelievably stupid.

How hard they take it really depends on the woman. I'm 40 and look better now than I did when I was a teenager.

My original question, and the one I've asked several times since then, was where did Avery talk about being poor? If someone could direct me to that part of the episode then that would be awesome. I haven't given this series my undivided attention yet because I tend to tune out until they meet their foreign counterparts.

Finally watched this shit show yesterday and it took me until today to catch up on all the comments.

WHAT is the deal with all these people on this show who can't wait to smell the person they've been talking to?  I get pheromones are a big part of chemistry but  do people really go around sniffing each other like dogs?  Someone (Big Ed?) mentioned he couldn't wait to get over there and smell her, and Geoffery commented on how good Varya smelled.  I get if someone had a rank odor it would put you off but is that SERIOUSLY the first thing you think of when you are going to meet someone?

And yes, it's been commented on both in the live chat and here but is being a terrible packer a prerequisite for being on this show?  Throw random crap in a bag (Ed AND Lisa) and call yourself packed?

Yeah, I've heard those comments. As a former travel writer I can attest to that-traveling to Australia IS expensive. I made decent money but there was no way I could travel to that part of the world if Rough Guides hadn't been paying for it. The airfare alone was twice my mortgage.

Now I'm confused as to where any of this tattoo conversation even got started. IMO money being too tight to go halfway around the world on a trip to see your internet crush is much different than being destitute and struggling to pay your bills or feed your kids.

Speaking of finances, travel anywhere isn’t cheap.  But I would be shocked if these people have to pay for their transportation when they are filming the whole thing.  At the very least, it’s a tax deduction for them as a business expense.  The tv show is probably issuing them 1099 forms. Heck, write off the hair extensions and lip fillers, if you can

They would have to be paying for Angela and Michael's. She's been over there 3 times and each time, she stays in a hotel for 3 weeks.

I'm also curious about certain characters (stars? participants?) get different houses and others don't. Are the cars they drive their own? Does TLC ever pay for dowries, wedding receptions, atty's fees or counseling sessions? (I'm assuming the attys and counselors are actual practicing professionals?)
