I loved how Senator Warren just took to ignoring Meggy.

Heh yeah that was pretty funny. 🙄  Fool me once ...dot dot dot

Hmmm see those dots do work, i had something to add ...much like the old adage 'when a tree falls in the woods, does the bear taking a shit, hear it? Hahahah its something like that.  Anyway, much like the above, if a MM is ignored,  will she disappear?  Maybe if we wish hard enough like the dearly departed Ms Williamson. R.i.p. her campaign.

Not just Joy - everybody's talking over each other.

They're all so excited to be there without McCain, that they were bubbling over with things to say. lol

@Cementhead: Yeah, Joy's always been very negative about the royal family, to the point of poisoning the discussion. I remember years and years ago when Barbara was there one day and they were talking about some special event to do with royalty (can't recall what it was), and Barbara was so annoyed by how negative Joy was being because Barbara wanted to revere them, of course. She said something like, "Tell us how you really feel, Joy." I don't have any love for the royal family, but I wonder why Joy has this obsessive negativity with them. Must have something to do with everything that happened to Princess Diana, I guess? A lot of people hate them for that.

I've been a fan of Michael B. Jordan since he was Reggie in All My Children, but, he needs to never wear that outfit ever again.

I've been a fan of his since The Wire. Ah, Wallace you broke my heart.

My mom tried to gain weight all her life, but her metabolism was such that she stayed a size 8. She was teased about her legs and then always embarrassed about them although they looked totally normal to me.. I bet her bullies were jealous. Frankly, in the old black and white photographs, my mom looks like a fashion model.  She "exercised" via housework ,vacuuming, taking  laundry up and down the stairs, and hanging out the wash on the clotheslines, folding it and ironing, cooking made-from-scratch meals, sewing our clothes, walking to the store (she learned to drive when she was 45), gardening, and leaning over the fence to gossip with neighbors.

Nevertheless, I love Joy. No one's perfect.

Sounds like my mom! She was 5'6", which for a woman of her generation (born 1918), was like Karli Kloss tall. She weighed 114 lbs when she got married. She was very photogenic, too, so she could have easily been a fashion model. Sadly, I didn't inherit her metabolism. My older sister did, the skinny bitch. 🙂 It's so depressing to have to watch every mouthful and workout like a demon and still be chubby, when your closest relative never exercises and wants to stop for a cake break when you're shopping, and never gains a pound.

I was disappointed they spent time on fluff topics, but didn't talk about the Ukraine Airlines plane crash.  They have a lot of Canadian viewers.  Many young Canadian students and young families were killed because of the military actions.  These are civilian casualties. 😢

I watched the Crown and I don't quite agree with Joy's conclusion that Edward was forced out not because of Wallis, but because he was a Nazi sympathizer.  They did cover the latter in the series but I don't recall them presenting it as the reason he was forced to abdicate.

I am not a fan of the Royals, even though I live in Canada.  Maybe because I do live in Canada.  But I think they made the correct points today, that the way the media has shamefully attacked Meghan has led to this.  I just saw a short interview with Harry where he says he has to protect his family.  If they end up in Canada, they won't get this kind of negative press attention, and I assume that is what they are hoping for.  Harry knows what they did to his mother.  I do think that topic went on too long, but it is a pretty big story as far as the Royal Family goes, and Meghan is American so at least it is relevant to them.

I don't like everything Ana and YNB have to say but I just enjoy listening to them so much over Whoopi or MeAgain.  It was a great panel today and everyone got their points of view out there without being rude or pontificating.

This. Every parent and grandparent I know hates the royal family because of what happened to Diana.

You are correct.  I am younger than Joy (but not by a lot)  and I did not grow up with the thought that people, especially women, should exercise.   Exercise was about losing weight or playing sports, and most women did not play sports. If you exercised to lose weight, it was all about having the perfect body so you could attract a man.

There was also the idea that lifting weights was bad because having muscular arms would make you look masculine.

I am a little older than Joy. I am not a sporty person in the least, but by the mid-70s I began Jazzercise and water aerobics on a 2 or 3 time/weekly schedule. I think that was a pretty typical beginning for small town midwestern women. My friends and I all pretty much had our men. I had four children and taught school so I wanted strength and energy to keep up all my goals. Happily, I am still doing all that and walk daily using my apple watch -- just saying Joy and I were both young in the 70s for sure. Maybe it was more regional than I realized.

I grew up on a farm and had to do serious physical labour from the time I was still a child.  Plus we skied and hiked and such.  So once I then went to work in the city, I worked out, always and consistently to this day.  Various things attempted, you find the one you like.  I think it is remarkable that Joy doesn't work out, but it is not that unusual, I believe.  So she is probably speaking truth to a lot of viewers, young and old.  And she is in good health and in her mid-seventies.  But it doesn't work that way for most people.  It's not her job to be the Surgeon General or whatever for health, she is sharing her views on exercise.  But I can see why people are upset by her comments.  I am pretty sure Whoopi doesn't work out either, but I noticed on a recent show that she was running all over the set, up and down stairs etc.  She is older than me and more able to do that than I am and yet I have always been physically active.  Sometimes you get good genes.

Being a Nazi sympathizer precluded him from getting access to the royal money.  Harry will not have that problem because his mother left him forty million pounds that he was to inherit on his 30th birthday. I am pretty sure the money was invested and it has grown substantially since his mother's death.

Right, I agree, but Joy made it sound like he was forced to abdicate because he was pro-Nazis.  Which it appears he was, but that is not what I saw on the Crown, as the reason he had to abdicate.

Interesting that everyone presumes it was M Markle who wants out from the Royals.

Exactly. I think it's all Harry. He was barely around before Markle. He stayed away and only showed up for required appearances. I think the tabloids treating his wife like they did his mum just gave him the fuel to do what he's been wanting to do, leave.

I just watched the show.

Joy did NOT say Love Actually was a good movie for kids.

She kiiiinda did.

Joy literally said, "I want to warn people about the movie Love Actually which is such a great film for kids to watch, except there's an incredibly pornagraphic scene in it."

(I don't know why she even brought it up, though.)

Can't believe none of them had heard about teaching young girls not to allow anyone to touch any body part that the swimsuit covers.

Back on topic: does anyone have the quote YMB said about planting the seed?  I want to send it to my sister.  Thanks

If there's a dream that you have that you want to bring to fruition, do not give up on your dreams. You're planting seeds that will spring up years later. So plant a seed.

Thanks for taking the time to find the quote, Bliss.  I wasn't going to bother.

She said the bold sarcastically, because she was recounting a story of her daughter scrambling to find the remote before her grandson could see something and that's how they ended up having to give him the talk. *shrug*

Yvette Nicole Brown looks real good in that seat.

The show flows so much better without Whoopi and Meagain.

I've always said those two are the worst part of this show. Of course, at least Whoopi has been bearable--lately.

They might not have gone into it that deeply on The Crown, but everything I've heard and read about the abdication indicates that the government was deeply concerned about his Nazi sympathies. There really was a certain amount of pressure for him to bow out.

I disagree. Whoopi squelches conversation; Joy facilitates it.

Weeeeeeeeeeell.  Joy has a way of speaking that could be offputting or gruff.  Her first questions are usually to setup what they're talking about, but at first it seems like shes taking the devils advocate side, but shes not, and a few questions more people start to catch on that thats Joy and how she talks.  Do we really need disclaimer, everytime that clip is played.  Adding: I say all that to say...dot dot dot that Joy is not a bitch.  But i can see where she might be perceived as a cold hearted bitch.  Thats why i say after a few more questions you start to get to know her and how she operates and that she really is caring, kind, nice person. Just dont fuck with her! Hah!  No time for the stupid lol

I also very much loved what she said about all those that support you and are with you on your journey —  to love appreciate and be kind and grateful always. She really is a lovely human — such nice change at that end of the table...

I have never heard this.  And I’m a retired mental health professional specializing in child abuse and neglect. I would argue that it’s not a great belief since children are so often sexually abused orally...

I’m also not a fan of “good touch-bad touch”.

Joy's knowledge of history is not limited to what she sees on TV (such as The Crown) or reads off of blue cards.

Exactly! The woman is 73 years old... that's alot of history to live through, and have heard about from family members and friends who lived through earlier times.  She's amazing.

I can only hope to be as sharp as she is at that age.  I'm 65 and noticing that I'm forgetting names somewhat.  I can see the person in my mind but the name escapes me for a few minutes up to a few hours.  I read alot, do  crosswords,  and watch jeopardy to stave off further memory loss.

Joy is a marvel.

I haven't studied it but I appreciate this info.  But what she said was about what was portrayed in The Crown.  Not disagreeing with you, just noting that she presented it as if the show presented that narrative, which I don't recall seeing.  In fact, The Crown has gone to extraordinary lengths to reinforce that "the Crown" squelched true love, first for Edward, then for Margaret, then for Charles.  It's an actual theme/thread that connects the various seasons.

I admire Joy a lot, but sometimes she just says things that aren't accurate, or at least not accurate in the way she presents it.

Both you and Joy are accurate

I watched The Crown and my take on Joy's interpretation is valid --as is yours bannana.

Re: Edward's Nazi sympathies/affiliations were shown quite clearly, albeit tastefully, (they are British after all and some are  still alive) as a historic chapter in a long book.

But since The Crown is essentially a classy, quasi-historical soap opera that focuses MORE on relationships behind the scenes/castle walls--via speculation coupled with actual video footage and spoken/published speeches/letters from the actual royals and supporting staff-- that you are right also.

In a nutshell.... the Nazi stuff was a presented as a part of history/the show, whereas the relationships underly all of it.

IMHO.

I just finished watching Friday's episode.  I agree it was a perfect cast:  no Meghan, no Whoopi, and yay for Ana being there as well as YNB who I love.

But...I also agree with whoever said upthread that it was not an enjoyable show due to so many instances of people talking at the same time.  Oy, I wanted to scream sometimes.  So much overtalking.
