Well it had to be long enough to investigate a fatal accident, down to pulling and testing the electronics on the signal lights. But shows never lock into a time if they can help it. That is why all veterans are from Afghanistan and not the shorter war in Iraq so they can slide the time scale and retain continuity later.

Right, I forgot about the investigation time. So it's not unreasonable that Hen is back at work. I also think that her driving the rig on her first day is a good thing. Getting back on the horse, so to speak. For me, the longer I put off doing something that scares me, the 'bigger' it becomes.

Was it mentioned in-show how long it had been since the accident? Chim seemed to be missing her and kind of expecting her to come/be back. Buck still had scrapes on his face, so I'm assuming not that much time, but maybe a couple weeks at least? There seemed to be more than one therapy session for Eddie and Maddie in the elapsed time, but I really can't recall if it was mentioned.

uhm.. are you talking about his eye herpes birthmark?

LOL, I feel like I'm missing something here, but... I'm talking about the marks on his face above/below his left eye. You can kind of see it in this still from the ep, but it was decidedly more red and noticeable in the episode.

That's definitely a birthmark. There are two parts to it, one next to and one above his left eye. If you Google Oliver Stark you can see it better in interviews.

That's actually the actor's birthmark. It definitely was more prominent in this episode than some of the episodes past, but that could be due to different lighting, different makeup making it brighter, etc. Here's an example of it:

I can't believe I've never noticed that before. WTF? In the official stills it's much less noticeable but I thought maybe it was supposed to have 'healed' some by then. This is a screen cap from the episode. Seriously, I have never noticed before and I was trying to recall how he'd gotten hurt in the previous ep. Ooops.

Why are Eddie and Buck NOT dating? The subtext is essentially text now. Hen and Chim are besties. Hen and Athena are besties. None of their dialogue sounds like Eddie and Buck. Hen is a queer woman who doesn't sound half as swoony talking to her ex or her wife as Eddie and Buck sound talking to each other.

The scene of the two of them talking in Buck's kitchen made me turn to my husband and say "This is for sure the setup for a gay porn."

I thought this episode was well done, although I'm troubled about the situation with Bobby. Just looking at the research (thanks, Dr. Google), he could be in for a very hard time. If the writers wanted to create an illness, I'm not sure radiation is the way to go.  I am a die hard Bathenashipper, and have consistently been annoyed at how the writers portray their relationship. I get that they're older but geez, turn up the heat a little bit! LOL!!!  As an African American woman myself, Athena is a shero to me. I think that she feels things deeply but has had to shield those feelings for a variety of reasons-- her job, the death of Emmett, and of course her mother Beatrice! Yikes, she is scary.  Athena's breakdown in Bobby's arms at the end of episode 7 was powerful acting!- Cue the waterworks!

Was Athena mad at May? Hell yes! To those who want to bash her for her initial reaction-- give her a break.  No parent wants to be compared to the enemy. Rather, let's congratulate her for being willing to process Michael's comments and approach her daughter with grace. I love that she affirmed for May that she (Athena) was proud of her job, herself, and wished her daughter the same.

I thought the way that they semi-resolved the Hen situation was good. Bringing back the life coach was smart.  I read an interview of Aisha Hinds that stated that there will be residual that Hen will grapple with from time to time. How can she not?

Agree with the thought that the Tara situation is shady.  Something/someone definitely not right.

As for the "Buddie" romance storyline-- not a fan but then I'm not really a fan of Buck.  I find him immature and annoying. I am more partial to the character of Eddie and Christopher is utterly cherishable!

I can't wait for the fall finale, although it really will piss me off that we will have to wait to find a resolution to Bobby's exposure to radiation.

I wonder about his liver results. As recovering alcoholic and addict Bobby's not great results aren't shocking but it could be a symptom of a larger issue. I could see this show going for a transplant storyline. We would probably end watching Michael and Buck fight over who gets to be Bobby's living donor.

Wow! I hadn't even thought of that! Brilliant and filled with drama. Ooh what an emotional rollercoaster. Bring out the popcorn 🙂

Thanks for the summary, Lady Calypso!

I wonder if they may still have a twist with the couple. Maggie's reaction to the husband claiming it was self inflicted made me think that she thinks something is not right.  But it may simply a way for the show to have Maggie deal with the "fallout" of what happened to her.

I thought something wasn't right myself. The woman being the abuser is still a possibility - in my mind, anyway.

Instead of trying to understand her daughter's point of view considering what she'd been through with the traffic stop, Athena initially took umbrage and acted self-righteous.  That's the main reason I've never liked her character.  I'm glad Michael calmed her down.

I'd be pretty upset if my daughter wrote an essay calling me the enemy. It would take me more than a few beats to calm down and really read and consider her point of view. Hurt can look self-righteous, I guess.

Though I think it's actually an excellent topic - an exploration of how it feels to have a parent you love (and respect) be part of an institution/profession you've personally had a terrifying encounter with, and know that your experience is just one of many. I haven't had that experience, fortunately (heck, my family's even in agreement politically - so no awkward dinners) but I can see how conflicted your emotions would be, and how it is powerful fodder for an essay.

The reason I called her self-righteous is that she made some comment about the situation in LA--granted, I can't remember exactly what she said--but she made it seem like she was the only police officer who was trying to do something about it.  I should have said "self-important."

Is a weighted blanket the new IT thing?  I swear I had seen like four  references to to one in just the last two days and had never heard of it before.

I never tried a weighted blanket. But when I first learned of it, I flashed back to the dentist's office and how I felt weirdly good under that weighted apron during x-rays.

I want Michael for an ex-husband.

Actually  I want Michael for a husband, even with his issues.

Well apparently Maddie was right about the dude she was stalking. Not that it matters.   I am guessing his wife will end up dead by the end of the season.

I think he's going to hold Maddie and the other 911 dispatchers hostage at some point.

Regarding long story arcs on this show, they really don't have 'em except for the "origin of Chimney's name" story! ;-)

And as for Maddie's getting called back by the woman she was stalking: sometimes you can be crazy AND right.

And when they were wheeling the husband out, and the wife ran up and grabbed his hand, the look on Maddie's face...I went: "damn, that is a fantastic death glare and some nice acting."

And yes, I think the abused wife will either end up dead or killing the husband by the end of the season.
