Episode Discussion II: The TFGH

Culture Check: How can we discuss a character's or actor's appearance without objectifying them? How can we express likes or dislikes and still respect an individual's humanity or be mindful that a character represents a person someone else might relate to or identify with?

This whole soap opera is a dumpster fire! (borrowed from YaddaYadda).

I really want them to bring back Nikolas asap! Let him fight with Ebola.

I'm now watching clips on YouTube. My heart is broken over the gaslighting of Spencer and Trina. So, here I am, on the barge. ::waves::

What I would like them to do, is to bring back Mikos and Helena Cassadine.  If your younger clone  bodies, with their memories transferred using some version of Dr. Maddox’s procedure.  That would actually be exciting, and makes as much sense as anything else they’ve been doing the last several years.

Finally Anna goes to talk to Robert about the WSB. Another good thing the strike writers are doing. I hope this thing that they are teasing, the problems at the WSB and Pikeman, turns out to be something. Enough of the mob stuff, let's mine another area especially if they tie Selena Wu to it. I'll even take Mason's boss in there.

I like it that Olivia isn't actively hating Nina. At the moment, that will all change of course.

And Sonny working on taking down Mason et al.  Valentin wanting to reinvent the Cassadine clan. Four good things that have changed with the strike. I'm not thrilled with teasing Spencer/Esme but I accept that I'm not going to like everything in a soap.

If I were Sam, I would be pointing out to Gladys that her constant talking about Scout not touching "couture" clothing just emphasizes how low class she is.

Don't the people who pay money to be able to use the Metro Court pool get angry when they can't go in because it's used for swimming lessons for Avery and Scout?

I've been in a psychiatric locked ward with violent patients, they don't wear restraints. Let's drop the psychiatrist and this whole Sasha torture porn story.

Valentine visiting Spencer for Laura reminded me that Spencer, in spite of his name, is half Cassadine while Charlotte is half Cassadine, half Spencer.

FFS, Nina and Sonny are getting married on Valentine's Day? I know that's easy shorthand and easy for everyone to remember, but it's such a ridiculous cliché.

We can only hope that Ned decides to dump Olivia when he gets his memory back. She treats him so badly, always expecting him to grovel regardless of the circumstance.

I'd have loved it if Carly had been lurking in the background, seeing Olivia talk to Nina like Nina isn't the devil incarnate.

Something tells me Alexis isn’t itching to go to a car show Diane but what do I know? I don’t get where they’re going with Diane/Robert because their last few interactions have had the same running theme of Diane being the one obviously trying to pursue something with him only to suddenly declare that she knows her worth when he’s less than enthusiastic about pursing her in kind. Like at this point, it’s fully established that she’s the second choice because Holly couldn’t stick around. Either accept it or actually move on to someone else if you can’t deal with reality.

I’m thinking (hoping?) it’s because of the scab writers. Plus, it’s setting it up for all these people letting Nina in only to find out she turned in Drew and Carly and the whole town will hate her again. So predictable and annoying.

Just caught up on a week's worth of episodes and the only thing I have to say is that Jon Lindstrom elevates every scene he is in.  Please put him in more scenes.

Ace didn’t seem to be enjoying all that picture taking

And does Sonny have no one else beside Brick to check things out for him and to watch his back?

As God is her witness, Carly is too busy getting back everything that she lost. I guess that includes being Olivia's only friend now.

This is typical for Diane though, she can't accept that she's not the be-all and end-all. It's like she's determined to make Robert accept that she, not Holly, should be his first choice.

Someone needs to tell her that making a man get rid of a long-term prized possession is not the way to his heart.

She's not setting up Nina, but Nina is being set up for one massive splash on her wedding day, though.

She is letting Olivia organize the wedding knowing full well that Ned was innocent of turning in two criminals. She was there when he fell and almost died, but she didn't show herself. Instead, she just left.

And of course, we have all the Carlys who hate her and will be vindicated. I'm sure Michael will sing song I told you so to Willow since I'm pretty sure she and Nina are going to become pretty close only for Willow's sad pathetic little world to shatter.

Sonny will leave her at the altar and she will be the town pariah.

It’s long been time for roger to go. And this third character of Austin that’s a flop definitely shows that they are just keeping him around because he’s a friend of Frank and not because the character is needed. Nikolas is a legacy character who has ties to everyone on canvas. If anyone should be on screen it should be him.

Roger Howarth isn’t the reason why Nikolas isn’t on screen.  And he totally isn’t a friend of Frank.

This could all be solved by Robert and Anna realizing that they belong together but I can't have nice things :)   Robert does still love Holly but if ES doesn't want to play Holly long term, then they really do have to let Robert move on.

OMG. I read this and conjured a scene of Carly coming down the stairs wearing green curtains, the rod across her shoulders, a la Carol Burnett. IYKYK.

The Cranky Nurse yesterday was played by Josh Swickard's (Chase) wife Lauren, so I have a feeling she'll turn into an evil accomplice in no time. I kind of hope they go with the unexpected twist of keeping her as a boring bureaucratic rule follower, and make Nice Nurse the evil one.

It's like he's mad they have a naturally popular couple.  Which is even stranger because Spencer and Trina were set up to be together from his first day back in PC. Bizarre.

Surprisingly, a number of interesting thngs on today's show.

Martyn and Cyrus, a couple of experienced actors playing off each other as Martyn is sceptical that Cyrus is giving all his money away.  And the look Cyrus gave Austin as he was wheeled away which makes  you doubt everything he said to Marty. They said that Mason's boss is a woman otherwise it could   be Cyrus.

Anna and Valentin talk about Valentin's relationship with Pikeman and tying together a number of loose strings, although Anna assuming that therefor she was the target of the shooting was too much.

Olivia refusing to have Eddie locked up and Olivia and Eddie growing closer, Not great but better than the months of bickering between Olivia and Ned.

Cody gets Brook Lynn to help him break into Sasha's room.

Tracy desperate to help Ned (and going about it all wrong). You're wrong Gregory, if someone is suffering a psychotic break, you can take away his agency.

The meta of the Ferncliffe nurse played by Josh Swickard's wife fangirling over Chase's singing.

On the down side, why are they writing Finn like a fourth grader with a crush?

Mason's Best Before date passed over a year ago, if there ever was one.

Not a bad episode.

But I'm really tired of the Sasha Torture Olympics. Like that's enough of that. Also, how many days has she been there and why is she still wearing makeup?

I think the only scenes I didn't care for where the Finn/Elizabeth ones. Too bad Finn didn't leave GH as he had intended.

Can they please start writing Finn and Elizabeth as adults? I'm so tired of the grade-school level crap we're getting.

This Mason thing is never going to end, is it? Talk about torture.

Anna getting all bent out of shape that Valentin has had dealings with Pikeman seemed overblown. And it's not as if Val is still actively involved with them. Another waste of time.

Why does Eddie Maine live at the Q mansion. He thinks he’s a rock star who just wants to party and refuses to acknowledge the possibility that he could be Ned. Then move! I hate this storyline

I’m assuming that they only had those scenes for Eddie to overhear and warm up to Olivia, but Tracy trying to have Ned committed would have been an interesting route to take. They’re ignoring the obvious beat of Jason’s accident and how the family was effected by his personality changes. Evan a line from Tracy about how if Ned was still Ned, he’d want the same thing instead of hurting his family because he hated what his cousin ultimately turned into.

Of course, any storyline possibilities are hampered by most of the Qs who were witness to it being gone so Tracy would only get called ridiculous because the only ones left all worshipped Saint Jason the mob hitman and wouldn’t see the problem.

Kind of surprised at Fiz's date when they were talking about the past that Liz didn't mention, "that time I pushed your wife down the stairs."

Well Finn kinda pushed Petah down some stairs and Liz helped hide the "body" so maybe that particular relationship obstacle gets a pass. At least that is what happens on The Bachelor.

Edward and Monica had Tracy committed when she talked to Alan's ghost and Ned didn't try to stop it. Or was that during the period WK was let go by GH ?

Either way, trying to control and blackmail one another is how the OG Qs show love.

I like Gregory and Tracy. IDEC.

Sasha and Cody...so much meh whatever.

So Anna has a problem NOW with being a sitting duck ? Yet was happy to sit in the open air on a balcony days ago.

This show.

Nikolas is coming back, isn't he ?

Whatever I did to deserve that, I'm sorry already.

Cyrus, I see you.

I could swear that Sonny and Nina were originally talking about a Fall date. Maybe TPTB are worried about various strikes making that harder to time?

I have to at least give it up to Cody for having a sense of urgency about Sasha. Everyone else supposedly worried about her just drifts around saying, "Yeah, I don't know if I buy this; she seemed OK...maybe I'll call Gladys and ask more in a day or two."

They were so you’re probably right that they postponed it so the wedding didn’t happen under the strike writers. Though why they care about that when the outcome is super predictable is beyond me. It’s likely also why they dropped Eddie living with Sonny and had him move back in with the Qs since I’m sure they didn’t plan for him to third wheel Sonny/Nina for 6 months.

Unconsciously I got up to get lunch when Curtis started to whine speak again. I a just so sick of his "poor, poor me" routing.

And now there's Portia and her anti-Spencer vendetta, telling him to stay away from Trina instead of thanking him for being there for her.. Instead of showing scenes of Trina with Spencer. Portia won't even let him say goodbye to Trina in person. Portia and Curtis deserve each other.

Moving on to a scene with Carly and Olivia renewing their BFF love for each other.  In a long collage. Ugh. Carly gives Olivia her permission to plan Sonny and Nina's wedding. The show ends on them so they're important. Ugh again.

Oh, look the axe-throwing set again. I did not miss you.

Gregory mourns his diagnosis and hopes his son the doctor won't figure it out. He steals Curtis' speech about not wanting to need other people to help him.

What did I do to deserve this episode? The best scenes are Dante talking to Jordan.

Nina: "Things are going really great between Olivia and I."  (It's so long since I've heard that grammar used correctly, it feels strange.)

Not to get political but that Invader article about the politician taking money from developers to open up lands for development could have come from my city paper today.

Of course Carly can't resist to get in a dig at Nina taking Carly's office at the MetroCourt. Way to put all that bad stuff behind you!

Alexis has been to the axe-throwing place before, hasn't she?

Of course Olivia apologized for the one and only time she pushed back against Carly. Never mind that Carly was still blaming Ned after the accident and didn’t give a damn about what happened to him. And wtf was that montage? Of all of the female friendships on this show, Carly/Olivia gets highlighted like that? I don’t recall anyone clamoring for their scenes together or showcasing their friendship more. Bringing up Kate was a choice since they started bonding because Olivia looked down on Kate for whatever reason and Carly finally found someone she could trash talk about Kate with.

It's very apt that Marshall and Curtis are playing Go Fish, given how childish Curtis has been acting.

Wow, Portia gets worse and worse with her attitude toward Spencer and Trina. She's practically got him up there with Nina as evil incarnate. And to judge Spencer is a bit much coming from Dr. I Unethically (and Possibly Illegally) Woke Up a Comatose Patient for My Own Purposes. And then she preys on Trina's insecurities by mentioning the Giant Cute Baby? Ugh. Portia suuuucks.

Yes, let's drag Connie into things, because slagging on a cousin who had the nerve to want to do more than stay in Bensonhurst is the worst thing someone could do. Shut up, Olivia and Carly.

Wasn’t there a set where ppl trashed stuff? Maybe that’s the one Alexis went to?!? I thought she had been at the axe throwing set too or a similar set? Anyway. . . .

I was in a meeting so I couldn’t see the whole show, but Portia is awful! I caught some of her conversation with Spencer, and her hate for him is OTT and makes no sense! Now, she’s blaming him for someone possibly shooting at Sonny?!? I’m over her! She’s just another barrier to Sprina. If they weren’t also dealing with the Esme/Ace barrier, it might not bug me as much but Portia is obnoxious! Spencer needs to stop trying with her. I wish he had stayed and said good-bye to Trina in person. Portia is never gonna like him so he has to stop wasting time trying to win her over.

Also, if the show doesn’t have any intention of actually showing a happy, in love Sprina, they can just end them now. All these barriers are more frustrating than entertaining. I’ve barely watched in weeks and these two still have very few scenes together and are rarely shown happy. It’s freaking ridiculous!

I always hated that stupid Kate/Connie -split personality storyline (so you can guess how I feel about this Eddie Maine shit, unless Ned is playing some sort of con), and think that Olivia is a disrespectful cow. Were there no other cousins Kate could have left he stuff to, or how about Maxie, who respected everything she accomplished? I will never forgive her for nagging Kate into "saving" Sonny after Brenda left him.

When Alexis got so angry that the Senator walked because the prosecution got smug, I thought that this was leading to Alexis wanting to go back to being a lawyer, not more axe throwing.

Obrecht took Anna to get over her Peter guilt I think. I was hoping that that is where Gregory was going to take Alexis but no, it's the axe throwing club.

Given the last scene of Carly and Olivia, I expect that they are heading there too. Because there is no story that Carly is not a part of.

Re Ned getting committed (I'm just waiting for Carly to give her opinion on that), Ned had a brain injury. What would make the most sense is to take him to a neuropsychologist to get tested for any lingering effects and have that lead into why he is hanging to tightly on to the Eddie Maine persona. But it's not nearly as dramatic as whatever Tracy is going to try.
