Watching this again I was struck by this bit of Mountbatten propaganda....

He was not one of the invasion's chief architects at all, but the brains behind the disaster of Dieppe which caused the deaths of hundreds of Canadians.  He wasn't even a good Admiral and had at least one open water collision with another ship, things that anyone else would be court-martialed for.  He kept getting promoted because of his royal connections.

I did not understand why she shared disappointment to Porchey that she may need to stay on a bit more in the States after one of her visits.  Just a few minutes later in the ep, she told him how this was the best she had felt in a very long time and that this activity is what most animates her life.  Me confused.

This was a rare ep where we got to see a Crown let her guard down and, to quote Radar O'Reilly, "Be a person."  It affirmed her horsemanship - the one thing besides fully embracing duty, at which she excels.  I particularly loved the moment when she knew Apprentice was done in that race.  Her practiced eye stood her well.

Was this coup really a thing?

Anyway, when he started to list all the coups which were happening, I was kind of expecting that he would end up talking about the loss of life and what happened after them. When he started to talk about the need to be legitime, I was kind of expecting him explaining that as bad as the situation was, it was not bad enough that people would have supported something like this. That he would actually think that Elizabeth would agree to something like this - honestly, that was out of character delusional.

This episode made me go look up Montbatten's Wiki.

First of all, Charles Dance looks exactly like an official photograph taken in 1976.

But the coup plot is something alleged in a documentary.  It's not clear that it was a real thing.

It's amazing, Wilson and Labour being accused of being socialists or Soviet sympathizers, not only by the group around Montbatten but also something said by Philip or someone else in the Royal Family.

But it was amusing, Wilson's cabinet being so ideological and anti-royalty.
