I'm stealing this.

As a former model, I can assure, they're not.

I used to work at a very reputable modeling/acting agency, some of the models, men and women alike would get with an agency in Japan and work for 3 months and come home a stack of cash.  None of these people were hooking on the side.

My friend worked as a flight attendant, some of her co workers were fired because they were, let's say being friendly for profit in the hotels the airlines put them up in!

Thank you!  I was wondering that last night, too:  Little Miss Social Warrior Who Needs Spelling Lessons:  Can you even pop that champagne?  I wanted the damn cork to go into someone'e eye (sorry I had to say it.)

There was a railing right behind them, so I bet the paid a restaurant for their patio seating area -- before the restaurant was open for the day. Also obviously that wasn't a random janitor...if I were a producer, I'd definitely write him sweeping up the rose petals into the script!!

Possibly I can answer that one.  Many years ago we adopted our son in Central America, and one of the things that was required was a "police report" - in our case, the other country required that our county sheriff's office provide them with a report that neither of us had a criminal record, and no untoward events at our house.  It may be a thing like, that, where her home town's police would review and see if there was any record on her.  It sounded kind of the same, although coming after a poor interview, maybe in this case it is the next step to see if there is a shred of a chance.

Thank you!  I didn't even think of that.  D'uhr.

Wait, why is Pao a skank? I didn't get a skanky vibe from her at all. She seems less than super smart, and I don't understand her attraction to Russ at ALL, but she doesn't strike me as being at all whore-ish. Did I miss something?

Well, in your case, this was a matter of the models like living somewhere for three months.  I get the impression Julianna had more passport stamps than would basically represent a few semester abroad.

Juicy bit about the flight attendants!  When I worked at a hotel we had a contract with Southwest crews and while most of them just looked like they wanted to hit the bed.....there was a significant minority who wanted to get to the bar asap, so there were a few willing to party....I never would have thought they were hooking ..but if they already had the room....

As far as Julianna being a model I didn't really give it much credit.  The title model is used sooo loosely these days it could mean anything.  It doesn't mean she's with an agency or anything like that.  It could simply mean she got paid once (either monetarily or otherwise) for having her picture taken and now she's a model!  =D

I call b.s. on Mursel & Anna not speaking ANY of each other languages.  She visited him in Turkey and what they used the app the entire time??  Come on!

May've been said elsewhere, but I'm pretty sure the price was requested because he had to look good for TV.  Without that information, there's nothing to say that he's spent a small fortune on this girl.

I dunno, there are some sex workers who not only enjoy their work but want to be in the industry. If I were young and hot enough and my knees didn't double for the Rice Krispie commercial sound effects and I found out that a couple of blowies or handies could get me free yacht trips, all you can drink booze, and the chance to snag a rich husband? Pass the lotion and the mouthwash, I'd be considering a career change. Sure would've beat some of those customer service jobs I suffered through.

Are you serious?

Are you offering me a job? I'm sure I can dig up some knee pads somewhere. The husband probably won't approve but it's better than buying a lottery ticket every week.

Late to the party......

The Beekeepers- I think he is socially awkward and hilarious.  He's maybe running away from a controlling family?  He should have stayed at a hotel the first week and given her boys a chance to warm up to him without him all there in their space.  the only couple I hope it works out .

Micheal, melted Ken doll, and Juju- I like her.  I guess the show is trying to play up that she was a prostitute and make us think she was, but since she's like 23 and 10 years ago she was 13 - I just hope she's happy and safe and takes him for every last penny b/c he comes across as a CREEP.

Anny and that other guy with the hellion baby- How is she able to come over on a K1 when they only spent 8 hrs together?  Don't they have to have like a reasonable amount of documentation that it's a real relationship?  She was nice to his kid so far.

Chipmunk and south africa-  She comes across as rude, controlling and unpleasant.  She was mean to the janitor and then she didn't even bother to clean up her mess after it served it's purpose.  He reminds me of one of the Browns on that fake show about Alaska.

Sasha/Masha / and Emily- Emily is annoying; she reminds me of apple picker virgin Evelyn and Corny.  I believe every word out of Masha's mouth- Sasha did cheat on her while they were still married.  I didn't really understand what they were asking Masha....... the son could come visit them in America or they wanted her to just let them take him and keep him in America?  Emily seems the type to get the kid over there and then just keep him out of spite.  Masha better keep her kid close.

As for the "modeling" label, we've seen that title very loosely used on this show numerous times. Again, when one has a pretty face or a hot body and lives in a country where education and jobs are few and far between, then becoming a "model" is a possibility as a means to escape abject poverty- and even to help support the family as well. Aspiring to be a model- by shooting some attractive photos - doesn't *make* one a model, although it seems to be interchangeable on 90DF. Michael mentions that Juliana is a model, yet he then says that he will bring her here to "help grow her modeling business." That doesn't seem to give the impression that she has an established career as a model.

Just like college basketball, college football, and actors, there are a fuck ton of models who are working who will never have noteworthy careers even if they are making a living as a model. The two most successful models to be Real Housewives are Joanna Krupa and Cynthia Bailey and I did not know Cynthia's name before the show, but I knew her face. Brandi Glanville, Yolanda Hadid, Kristen Taekman, and Luann de Lesseps were all working models who ended up marrying rich guys (except Brandi who married a more successful mactor, Eddie Cibrian). The entire cast of Vanderpump Rules is filled with models who have had middling success and needed to supplement with restaurant work. And we know some of the modeling jobs that they've actually booked. Most models aren't Naomi Campbell. They aren't even Cynthia Bailey. Most models will end up like the dopes on Vanderpump Rules.

I remember watching a show/documentary (?) about modelling and one of them discussed how getting signed to a modelling agency isn't a super huge deal.

The way it was explained was that agencies like to have a lot of different model "types" for clients to choose from depending on their campaign or advertising needs.

Since the agencies aren't paying the model a retainer it doesn't cost them much to keep a model "signed"

I think it says something that she is signed to some agencies but I'm not sure how much insight it gives into her situation or whether she was making any real money at doing what would traditionally be considered modelling work.

I think what would be more probative would be to see her body of work to date.  Has she done a lot of advertising campaigns?  Does she had a body of traditional work she has done for standard clients?

IIRC, Pao was also very coy about potentially still being in love or in contact with her ex when Juan (?) her friend brought it up at the tell-all.

If you're married to one man, no matter how much of a dweeb he is you probably shouldn't give a half hearted response on national TV when the subject of how you are still in contact with your ex, you should have married your ex, you still want to be with your ex, or you'll get tired of Russ soon and marry your ex soon comes up.

This could potentially be construed as skank like behavior.

That bodypaint photo shoot with her dad lounging around watching was just weird.  I love my dad, I think we have a pretty good relationship....I don't want him seeing my lady bits.

I haven't gotten to preggo Pao yet, so I don't know the context of not letting her MIL hold the baby. The body paint shoot was surely viewed differently by Pao's parents than they would have by Americans. I wasn't bothered by it. It was only topless, not pornographic. Heck, I got naked on stage during a college production of Hair every performance (there was some body paint involved there too, but much, MUCH less than Pao had on). Americans have more Hang-Ups about nudity. Where her friend Juan was concerned, she really just wanted her husband to be friends with her friend. But Juan is too big of an ass. I don't blame her for that. Her biggest mistake was trying to force them to be friends when they clearly dislike each other, but I think that makes her less than wise, not a skank, IMO.

I don't know, I don't think Pao wanted them to be friends.  Her constant smirking and grinning and just sitting there making the softest protestations wasn't convincing to me.

Pao knows darn well how to be pushy when she really wants something.

And you know, I don't blame her for not pushing for Russ and Juan to be friends.  I'm sure married people like having a friend they can vent to about their spouse.

BUT, I take exception to sitting around smirking, grinning and barely saying anything in defense of your marriage when your friend is basically telling a national viewing audience that you want your ex, suggests that you are still in contact with your ex, and you should divorce your husband to get back with your ex.

A person who is committed to their marriage shouldn't let that stand.  I've never called Pao a skank, but I wouldn't put up a hearty defense of it not being skank like behavior.

When the New York Times wrote about the show (and the whole franchise) on August 18 they mentioned the airport business with Tania and Syngin.  It says:  "..Then she [Tania] and two girlfriends left for the airport.  In the arrivals hall, they scattered more petals (a custodian tried to sweep them up; a producer had the custodian sign a release form) and took photos and Jagermeister shots."

The next paragraph is kind of fun - .. it describes their anticipation of the reunion, as the crew are listening, then ".. Terminal 2 filled with pheromones as they kissed and clutched" - and then:  "Flushed, giggling, they went back for his unattended bags and exited through a main door.  Outside Tania turned to a producer.  "Do you want us to redo that?" she asked."

Even worse, Pao and Juan were sitting talking ABOUT Russ in rapid-fire Spanish and laughing at him. Then I recall a scene when Russ left after being insulted enough and she didn't go with him but stayed with Juan. That, to me, isn't just wanting the two to get along. She incited tension between them.

I totally agree that she incited the tension and that she appeared to kinda enjoy Juan and Russ fighting over her.  I viewed that as immaturity on her part, not as skanky behavior. As far as Juan saying that Pao should be with one of her exes when they were on one of the Tell-Alls, that was just Juan trying to stir up shit, not Pao saying she still had feelings for an ex. She could've protested the assertion more convincingly, but again, she just seems content to have two guys fighting over her.

She should have said more and the fact that she didn't could, reasonably allow the inference that her silence was agreement with what Juan was saying.

After all, when Pao disagrees with something she is very loud about it.  So, I don't think it's unreasonable to infer her silence as agreement with Juan's statements.

In which case, she agreed with those statements about getting back with her ex, even though she was married to another man.

And I think just the failure to stand up for your marriage at all.....but just to sit there smirking and grinning.....I wouldn't call it skanky, but it's so disrespectful to your own marriage and the institution of marriage that while I wouldn't call it skanky behavior....it's something.

In Pao's defense, she also wasn't letter her own mother hold the baby a lot - apparently she was uber protective after her son was born - perhaps a lingering issue after her miscarriage before?  And once Russ's mom was there she did allow her to hold the baby and seemed to lighten up somewhat.

I do think that Pao likes to have the camera on her and was trying to create tension because she knows that is how to get more camera time.  I didn't like it and thought it was unfair to her marriage.  Happy marriages don't make for good reality television apparently!  (DUH!)

Which raises suspicions about who was really pushing for Russ & Juan to keep showing up in the same place while the cameras were there. Maybe it was Pao. Maybe it was the production.

Except in this case she IS signed with multiple international agencies, including PRM London and one in Sweden. She is not a "model" like Pao. She has had a fair amount of success.

I don't care if she side gigged as an escort or not, I just think it sucks that the word "model" is tossed around so much these days that it has become  throwaway job title.

Anna is becoming a front runner for most disliked person for me.

Getting this out of the way, I think Mursel might be slow. He makes some unique facial and body gestures at times, and if you can’t even communicate with him, it might be hard to pick up on. It could possibly explain some of his bizarre beliefs. He can get jiggy with it though.

Anna is one of those people that just lets things happen. From the obnoxious teenager she has to the trashy, skin tagged eye lidded mom, who, by the way, knew she was going to be filmed, she lets them ask insulting question after insulting question, while she sits there and does nothing. Who cares. As long as she can get 7 orders of nachos from this repulsive interaction, she’ll let it happen. I thought the lingerie store was bad last episode...the Keno restaurant looked worse than that.

I’m happy you noticed that too.  He looked like a trained monkey sitting there chomping his food at the casino restaurant.  I’m not crazy about Anna.  Those three nice boys don’t need this crap.  She’s so hard up.  IMO, these couples are more interesting than last seasons.

Super late, but finally catching up.  Some things that really struck me this episode:

  • The way Michael made the prostitute question ALL about him.  Spoke volumes to m- a LOT of narcissistic qualities in that man.
  • How incredibly young-appearing Juliana was out of hair and in more natural make-up.  Also, her eyes looked so sad, even when her smile was big.
  • I absolutely, 100%  believe that Sasha will be out the door when something new and shiny comes along in America.  If kids can't keep him around, nothing will.  I do not think his ex was "crazy" at all.  He was NOT happy to be stuck in that room.
  • Honey, the epidural is NOT working if she is in pain.
  • Emily was in full panic attack on the c-section table. C-sections are scary as fuck, so I can't imagine going through it in a country I can't speak the language, with a "fiance" who can't hold my hand during the procedure.  Also... uh, the doctor's nose wasn't even covered by the "mask."  Interesting.
  • Murcel is not slow- he's just plain stupid and awkward.  In what world or culture would keeping kids a secret be ok?  Referring to it as a "sin" that will be forgiven on his parents' deathbead?  wtf.  He needs to go home and live in bachelorhood or find an awkward Turkish woman.
  • Anny's childish petulance at the second-hand store killed any goodwill she had gained with me.   I mean, that totally sucked of what's-his-face to take her to a freaking second-hand store knowing she's a woman of "Versace and Chanel,"  but she was a whiny baby peepee pants and was such a snot!  I was embarrassed for her.

The scene of Mursel asking where the mountains were and commenting on how flat Nebraska is makes me wonder how much talking these people actually do, aside from, "I love you!" "No, I love YOU!" At no point before Mursel arrived did Anna clue him in on ANYTHING about Nebraska? Like, at all? The man doesn't speak the language; it seems only fair to give him some head's up before you plop him in the middle of a corn field with a slice of pizza, a video game controller, and a cell phone translator app.
