S10.E03: Ghosts

Recommended Posts

I think I understand the reason Carol focuses on the deaths of characters like Sam and Henry. It's because these are tragedies that she can actually face and still remain mostly functional. It's probably a lot harder for her to look back on the deaths of Rick, Carl, Glenn, Sofia, or Neil.

This is the first episode where I think they have talked about moving property markers.  I don't think I have seen any markers in any of the past episodes.   Move those markers from where?

If TWD viewership continues to drop, what is AMC's plan B?  The rest of their programming with the exception of "Better Call Saul" isn't worth watching.

They'd better have Vince Gilligan chained in the basement.

So, for everyone still angry and reeling from the death of Neil, I looked up his biography:

A sampling of his electrifying appearances:

And his last known words:

I hope you all can find closure now.

Neil: We hardly knew ye.

Read his bio, studied his pic; still can't place him.  Quelle surprise.  Not.

He's really not worth remembering, except the sheer devastation of his death led Maggie to send a wooden box to the Saviors with some sort of warning.

Pretty snoozeworthy and totally forgettable.  I can't even recall offhand what the warning was but it was when they were housing a bunch of captured/escaped Saviors at Hilltop.

I must've been on an imaginary blackout when all this transpired.

I'm telling ya, @walnutqueen, so many of these episodes just all blend together in my brain that sometimes when they kill off an integral character like Neil, I sit here wondering "Who the fuck was THAT? Have they ever even shown that character before now?"

I think maybe I need some of whatever Carol was taking to sustain my attention during a full episode.  And wine.  A lot of wine.

Good plan.  Except that you're likely to die of liver failure long before such remedies make this show palatable again.

That's what I said when Maggie screeched OMG THEY SHOT NEIL!!!!

"Who the fuck is Neil and why are we supposed to care that he was shot???"

Aaahhh the ‘Neil’ incident, one of the worst examples of character assassination ‘Maggie’ and terrible writing the show has ever exhibited. After all that Maggie has seen and done in the past, were expected to believe that when she came upon a tree blocking the road, she merely said stop, and not reverse, or exit the vehicles and take up defensive positions, no, just stop and sit there.

Even when the headlights of the Saviours vehicles appeared at the rear of her stationary column, did she react? No, she just sat in her seat while the Saviours vehicles cruised slowly past her column and took up positions surrounding her, the Saviours being allowed to exit their vehicles and stand pointing weapons at the fools still sat in their cars.
We then, after our people giving up their weapons, had to endure Forehead Guy murdering Neil, poor old Neil.

As an extra to what I’ve posted above, the fact that Maggie ‘should’ have honestly believed that Negan would have had her killed for her actions, merely enforces my belief that the writing was appalling, so appalling that we’re expected to believe that Maggie would have just sat in her seat to await what punishment those assholes felt like administering, BULLSHIT!

I tried lots of wine, but it didn't work. Yes, we need what Carol is taking, so I think I'll move on to this:

No one knows what Beta looks like under his mask.  Even if he were killed, the protagonists wouldn't know they have killed him.   If Beta never shows his face, it makes it far easier for him to disappear in a crowd by removing his mask.

What doesn't make a lot of sense is why Alpha showed her face in the first place.  Her physical appearance isn't the least bit forgettable, and yet every time she goes and meets the protagonists she takes off her mask.  Not a smart move on her part.

The mask just makes her look like a zombie, which haven't been scary for years.

But without it, she looks like she might do anything.

Like turn on a lightbulb by sticking it in her mouth.

Apparently Kang said on TTD that they're expired caffeine pills, like No Doz.  Which okay, whatever.  That's about as plausible as anything else at this point, even in an old prescription pill bottle.  Clearly the show just wants us to go with it and not think about it too deeply, which could actually apply to almost anything they show us.

So, I suppose in Kang's world, if I have a can of caffeinated coffee on the shelf, after five years it will be decaffeinated.  Got it.

If TPTB expect I (and every other audience member) will simply accept Beta as the ZA version of the Dread Pirate Roberts, then they can kiss my ass.

I guess I am the only one that gets the humor in me calling the location where ten people were piked, Pikes Peak.   If the writers aren't going to give names to all of these meeting locations, I guess I have to make up my own.

We don't even know the name of that building where Carol, Daryl, and Michonne were in.  We don't know where it was located.  We don't know how much of Carol's hallucinations were real, though I really do think at the end of the episode that it was real and not a hallucination where Carol really did killer a Whisperer, now turned walker.

But what is really annoying, is that Carol steps into one small little rope trap in a gymnasium.  No rope traps anywhere else, except where she puts her foot.

They are still clinging to the show being the highest-rated show on ad-sponsored cable. Even if those ratings have dropped by 75% since their peak. I guess they will continue to hang their hat on that for as long as they can.

What's so frustrating is that nobody - the network, the producers, etc. - sees the ratings decline as an indication of viewer disinterest or loss of quality. Whenever anyone is asked about it, they always hand-wave it away by chalking it up to different viewing habits, streaming, etc. They seem to believe the show is just as popular as ever and the ratings don't reflect viewer interest.

They're fooling themselves.

That isn't really all that much different than a company that comes out with an awesome product.  Then some dipshit gets the idea that they can make the product with cheaper components, have a bigger profit margin, and still sell the same number of units, even though the product is nowhere near as good as it used to be.  Eventually sales drop, and then what was once an awesome product and its brand have been turned into shit.

I believe Negan is 6'1" so Beta would tower over him and looks to be a lot heavier too. I guess all those bugs, invertebrates and leaves have more calories than I imagined. But yeah, I think getting roles when you're 6'5" may be difficult these days but still I feel sorry for the actor who doesn't even get to show his face.

Well, of course not, because Plot. Daryl beat poor Fat Joey into paste, but didn't bother making sure that the giant, scary monster was dead.

Thank you for this.  That is what I was looking for.

So I guess my thought process of having Beta getting conked on the head and replaced by Negan is a no go.

I don't see many skinny cows eating grass, so imagine whatever the Whisperers are eating must be quite filling.

Maybe the Whisperers have developed stomachs with different compartments like cows, to extract maximum benefit from food with few nutrients? They'd have to graze all day but at this point I don't put any wild zaniness past TPTB.

I can’t think of a business that would endure a drop off like that and not do something radical to try and get things back on track. Maybe the new show is that something, a new target audience with a new set of ‘heroes’ all their own.

I think most of us that have been there from the beginning have absolutely no interest in watching a bunch of kids, we’ll just stick with what we’ve got until we can’t stand it anymore. The movie is going to be important, mediocrity will not do, they really do have to get that right

I believe that whether a person is a show lover or hater, that they will give the new offering a fair go, we’ll watch and comment upon what we’ve just seen and make comments that are not only fair but appropriate.

Doesn't matter. There's probably a total of about 20 fauxmbies, from what we've seen. But no matter how many of them we see killed onscreen there will eventually be 300 of them when the plot requires. Enemies are like bullets. Or allies. Or... basically any other noun. Are there as many deer as the plot requires? Are there as many helicopters as the plot requires? Fuck it. I just hope that the plot requires as many whales, dolphins, and elephants as possible. Because we know damned well that the humans, in this mythos, can not be salvaged, because their Writer-Gods are fucking idiots.

It wouldn’t be the first or the twentieth time we’ve seen one Walker take out a whole bunch of people.
The infamous ‘Tobin incident’ at Hilltop was a classic, one man ‘turning’ resulted in major carnage, it does rely upon the deceased immediately reanimating though, something the show lets slide when required. 🙄

Considering Alpha's penchant for making long dull stand-off speeches about what a silent animal she is, I continue to be smitten with the idea of her and her group being wiped out from behind by the deaf girls. Bonus points if they also kill Negan for being an escaped murderer. I don't think Inspector Gadget would tell on them. Hell, I'm not sure he'd even see it happen. Wasn't there a plot point a week or two ago about his eyes getting into Hogwarts? I guess maybe they're gonna live in the sorting hat, kind of like Coral did?

Good lord this show is so boring now.  Endless dark night scenes.  Endless talking and rambling about nothing.  Endless pissing contests between people I no longer care about.  Endless scenes in the boring country.  Do the creators of this show ever plan on making it interesting again?
