The alcoholic/pills sister looks like an obese turtle when she retracts her head/chin into her neck.  She thinks she knows it all, but Phil and the audience have her number.

There is no way on earth that these two sisters are going to work this out even with years of therapy. The eye rolling, vodka swilling sister will never give up custody just to torture her sister. She doesn’t want those girls. She just doesn’t want her sister to have them back. What a horrible beast. And what was with the constant eye rolling? I was surprised Shill didn’t ask her to take a drug test.

Don't sneer, y'all, but the only episodes I am enjoying by now are the catfish ones -- at least they start at one point and end up at another one, and you can sort of believe (in most cases) that the catfish-ees "get it" and realize what has gone on.

Sometimes I just see the episode description, and then check in eight minutes before the hour to see if it's Turnabout Ranch, or Onsite, or the P&P Center.  Today I tried that and got six minutes of commercials and Robin's cosmetics.

On the OWN network, I've seen some episodes from five or more years ago, and there really is a distinct difference in the kinds of subjects and the way he dealt with them.      So - yeah -  a good Catfish piece, show somebody who thought they were loved that they are not, and call it a day.   Sad, but it needed doing.  And it's educational, too.

Anyway I was watching Piper and Phoebe fight over custody of Phoebe's kids yesterday.  Did they ever answer why Phoebe gave over custody?  Did she have no other person she could depend on?

Surely the children's mother who's put her life back in order would win back her children if she went to court?

I missed parts of the episode - who was the guy?  Her boyfriend?  He was making sense anyway.

I got the impression the sister wanted 'thank yous' lavished on her for what she had done, and no one was showing her the gratitude she wanted or thought she deserved.

Phil waffled through it all.  I wish they'd show repeats of his show when it first began.  He was so different.

I thought it was the sister who has custody ex husband.  I might be wrong though.

I don't watch Phub anymore but read this thread to see what kinds of guests he has and the insanity going on in regards to his show. Your post made me think I had stumbled into the section for the TV show Charmed.

It's just who they reminded me of.  I like to put my own spin on things, makes it more interesting.  Certainly didn't need 2 days of these 2.

I was hoping Dr. Phil was going to say "Oh hell yes she is getting her children back.    I'm going to hire the best attorney I can to help her.   And you can priss your selfish bullying vindictive ass back to your house."

But he never said it.

Yes, they were better and much more varied.  He can only work with people who email the show and want to come on, so there is that.

I love the catfish shows best too.  This scam has been exposed quite a bit so the people who fall for them are dwindling.

I was hoping for that too.  Maybe his plan was to set up the counseling with someone who will guide the mother to a lawyer and petition the court.  The therapist's contribution will be valuable.  This is IF the sister agrees to even go to the counseling.

The tape of this show will also be valuable in court.

ETA.  It was so obvious the sister had coached the girls in exactly what to say!

Watching this overly Catholic family of assholes is very frustrating. I'm not going to get political because I know it's not allowed, but kicking your own child out of the house because they voted for Hillary Clinton and that's against your strict Christian moral code is beyond ridiculous for a billion reasons.

Kicking her out because she voted a certain way yet sitting next to your son who molested your daughter completely normal to this family lol I love he blamed the evil porn for makin him molest her. Kinda strange seeing how there are people who watch porn all the time who chose not to molest people lol but it was the evil porns fault not his.

Dr. Phil is lately making me another Phil - Phil Donahue and the days when you could have trashy topics interspersed with serious topic. Even Mort Downey Jr. - Sally Jesse Raphael - Geraldo - Anybody?

I miss Phil Donahue more than just about anyone else that isn't on TV anymore (but could be!).

Today, I finally realized what was missing from Phil's show.

Audience questions and comments.

I don't need the audience to go bat-crap insane, but even a relatively even-keeled show like Donahue or Oprah would go into the audience with their big old mics and interact with the audience.

That would really bring some life back to this dead horse.

This is one show that could have been longer.  I have some questions.  When did religion take over her sensibilities?  After her husband died?  Phil should have given more guide lines for the lunch meetings.  Buy a people magazine and discuss what they see in it.  Find a TV show both like and talk about that, same with a movie.  They have to be armed with safe topics.  That mother is repugnant. I wish Phil would have mentioned that people get to have their own beliefs and vote for who they choose.  Damn I hated that woman.

I think the idea of questions from the audiences - maybe in the final segment is an interesting idea.  But Phil likes to control everything, so I'm thinking any questions from audience members would have be vetted and approved.

But the show needs a shot in the arm and a new format.  The most irritating for me are the initial shots of guests walking along the street, staring into space, etc., while Phil informs the audience of today's issue.  These staged shots are shown over and over and over and over again!!  Then more time is wasted with sentences blown up on a big blue screen and we have to listen while Phil reads through them.  The actual meat of an issue only really gets about 15 minutes.  And even more time is wasted with face cream promos.  So many follow up questions Phil never asks.  He never really cracks the surface of anything.

Has anyone ever tried the Doctor on Demand ap?

When I went to a Dr. Phil taping, he didn't even acknowledge the audience during breaks.

One of the tapings I went to did have a few audience questions that were obviously prescreened/scripted with precisely placed audience members.

Watched one of the oldies on OWN, and as mentioned upthread The Good Doctor did a good job untangling a complicated family drug issue. Of course it still ended with a trip to the PNP Center of Dubious Value. Now it's just throw the mess out there, yell at each other, fill time with "Coming Up...", offer "help" (preferably mysonjay's Doctor on Demand), and violá! there's time for Robin's snake oil. (And everyone in our audience is going home with it! Cue excited audience rivaling Oprah's "you get a car!")

This happens on all TV shows.   The audience is there to observe at TV show, not be part of it.  I think it would be exhausting for hosts to banter with the audience at every break.  "Oh I am such a fan of yours!" "Can I have your autograph"  "Julie, do you ever watch the feeds (on BB)"  "Sara, I love you on Rosanne, was it good to be back?"

Well, maybe over the summer hiatus Phil could come up with some new sayings other than putting verbs in my sentences and this ain't my first rodeo.  That, at lease, could liven things up.

Right now - no matter how dire the issue.... Dr. Phil is predictable and a bore.  Surely we'll get a good old fashioned catfish story during May Sweeps?

I will no longer watch the out of control teenager shows. I saw the one yesterday about the former drug addict who wants to get her kids back from her sister. Why is she going on Dr Phil? He had zero power to return her children to her despite his “mandated reporter “ cries. She needs to go to legal aid and find an attorney. I’m wondering what his next high profile case will be- I’m guessing he will try to get one of the Turpin kids on.

Alcoholic sister mentioned in passing that former addict tried to take her to court but didn't go into details. I was disappointed that Dr Phil didn't follow up. Maybe it's something that's still pending?

A hint--Phil Donahue's wife.

When I was a little kid I wasn't allowed to watch any television show unless the star/host was either Catholic or Glen Campbell so I got to watch That Girl....along with Mr. Ed, The Ed Sullivan Show and, of course, The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour.

I think they said that it was agreed that the kids would stay with the one sister while the other was in jail so that the kids wouldn't end up in foster care. They must have had some sort of falling since then. I agree with the people who think that alcohol sister is just keeping the kids to get back at her. She's probably using the one's sister record against her as leverage with the authorities.

I think they thought that Dr Phil would automatically take their side because he's not a fan of women being promiscuous, but they were self righteous I think Phil realized that the girl is probably better off not in the house.

Also, I think it was funny the one brother saying, "She's doing it because she like the attention!" So your answer to that is to bring her on TV?

From the family on Friday, the Mom probably defers to the males in her family, so that's why she's not critical of anything the son does.

Today's show - I think Mercury is really disturbed.  Sounded like she was indeed stalking (from what little I paid attention to during this tedious show).  The other woman had gone to the police multiple times, the police seemed to think she had a case in at least one instance.

Phil, of course, rushed off to plug Robin's answer to Mother's Day presents!  Her perfume named after her mother or whomever.  Yeah, pass.  Just do an hour long infomercial already.  Surprised he doesn't tell some of the womenfolk that Robin's products are the answer to all their problems.

I agree, Mercuree is clearly unstable. I thought it was funny that when Phil tried to be condescending at the end and Chrissy stood up to him and he had to rush off. I don't think he even shook their hands like he normally does with guests.

I saw the preview about an update for a show I didn’t see where they are trying to prove who murdered this woman.  I don’t know they bother with these.  No one ever confesses.  There’s never any resolution.

Today’s show was strange...who cares about these D list reality/cable access show people.  Who are their fans?  Why is Mercury wearing a poodle wig?

The worst part about the murder shows is when OWN replays them years later and the outcome is already known.  For example, the numerous re-broadcasts of anything having to do with Stacy Peterson are absolutely turn-off-able.  I have no time for shows where the outcome is already known and they don't bother to post the update at the end of the broadcast.

eh not necessarily true. I've been to tapings where the host is very friendly toward the audience. You can just tell Dr. Phil is an asshole. He doesn't give off a sincere vibe when he's actually being nice to the guests and he loses patience with the guests if they dare to open their mouths to say anything at all. When there's a serious issue, Phil thinks it's appropriate to transition from a very serious topic to promoting his doctor on demand app, book, robin's face cream, etc...I mean, I would be embarrassed doing that but that's just me.

The absolute worst is when he talks about any celebrity and they are always his "best friend". You wish, Philip.

Also, he says the same lines every episode. Think of new things to say, or the guest can just watch reruns and get advice that way.

Phil shilling Robin’s miracle serums over and over and over makes me wonder just how successful her skin care line really is. If it was going blockbusters, would he have to keep promoting on his show all of the time? I think not. And it makes me crazy when she repeats over and over that “I” developed this product and that product. She didn’t develop shit. She hired a scientist to do it but claims credit for all of it. As she has for anything she’s “done” including redecorating Phil’s office and the Dr. Phil House.

This show has become Jerry Springer Lite.  I forget the episode, but I was screaming at the TV for $hil to tell his guest to take her elderly father to the doctor for a checkup.  I was the caregiver for an aging parent, and it was obvious to me what was going on.

I too prefer the catfish shows.

International beauty expert Robin is just plain ridiculous.

I do have to say that I'm mesmerized when they do the commercial with her pleading with everyone to "come to a taping because we have a lot of fun".  Oh spare me.  I watch because the sleeves she has on that getup makes it look like her wrists are bandaged from an attempt at slicing them.

And the way she holds her hands on her lap makes it appear even more so.

I've said it before but damn it if she doesn't look like Ruth Buzzi.

I used to love Phil’s show back in the day. However. The past 6-7 years have become more and more Jerry Springer type shows. And the whole Robin shilling thing is just absurd. And the “my son, Jay” shilling is also over the top. I think he started out hoping to actually help people who didn’t have the resources in their own hometowns to access the level of help they needed. That’s all gone away to make more money for Shill, phoney Robin and my son Jay.

I'm going to cross my t's and dot my i's with a solution for the screaming mother/daughter team.

Daughter goes to rehab, cuts off mother permanently. Don't take emails, phone calls, visits, money, nothing.

The mother drove me to drinking within 5 minutes of the show. My husband, passing by, commented that the daughter was distraught because she couldn't find the remote control to shut her mother down, and he handed me the remote control and pointed to the OFF button

I still like this show though it was better back when Robins teeth were shorter.  I watch about 60% of them, skipping those on addiction and sexual abuse.  Had enough of those.

He gets paid an advertising fee from those places I will not name.  I am sick of hearing about them.  That won’t change but something should.  The older shows are so much better.

I liked the Dr Phil House, that would be nice for a change.
