They said in the beginning of the show that they both work/worked in law enforcement, so they could have been too busy with their jobs to pay attention to what was going on.

They should still have known where and what their eight year old was doing and not allowed strange men to spend time with her. Considering the brother killed himself I wouldn’t be surprised if something weird wasn’t going on with the parents . It simply defies the law of averages that a small child would be independently targeted by numerous predators.

I watched part one with Melissa and I want to know how she is supporting herself if she moved 2,000 miles away. Also her diary seems full of Dr. Phil references. Something seems strange about all this ( besides wanting to murder her whole family).

I also think if she really sent Phil 392 emails threatening to kill her family, his staff had an obligation to notify the family so they could protect themselves. It’s seems he only cares about ethics when it suits him.

I guess he's not a "mandated reporter" when it comes to endangering the lives of adults.

I watched part two of this today and the whole thing just seemed staged. This young girl didn’t drive, didn’t work , had no friends and no money. Yet she somehow moved 2,000 miles away leaving only a note about contacting Dr. Phil. Then Dr Phil said he received 392 emails from her over the past six months and her diary which mentions Dr Phil a lot. The girl wants to murder her entire family but Phil wanted to surprise them with this information on the air.

Phil also acted like it was no big deal, even showing fake looking videos of the girl holding knives. No one in her family seemed upset and they are happy to have her back after so attends one of Phil’s centers. No one asked her where she was, how she got there and how she was living ( she was filmed all dressed up against a yellow screen). I call BS on the whole story.

I believe nothing of this Melissa story and I don't think Dr. Phil or his team does either otherwise they would have reacted in a completely different manner.  Do I think she's troubled, yes, but I think the person most in danger is Dr. Phil.  He's lucky she couldn't travel to the set.  On the other hand, I don't think they would have done the show if she could travel.

The Melissa story was very bizarre. And Dr. Phil dragging out all the drama to have Melissa confess to her parents that she wanted to kill them. And her parents didn't look too surprised. It also drove me crazy when, upon hearing this revelation, Melissa's mom says "I didn't believe you, all kids say they want to kill their parents." Um, excuse me?

Reminds of when I'm watching a number of true crime shows (mostly on ID) and a family member or friends say "Oh, yeh, he told me that he killed that couple down the street. But I didn't believe him."

Who's going around telling people this crap? Apparently, would-be and actual murderers are the ones who say it.

No one asked Melissa where she was or how she could get 2,000 miles away considering she had no drivers license or car, no money or job and no friends. She was also filmed against an orange screen the whole time. I think it was all BS and she was home the whole time and the show had her film against a wall so the audience couldn’t tell where she was.

10/19: “My 49-Year-Old Dad is Dating My 23-Year-Old Friend”

Joni claims that Gina used to be one of her besties and that they were inseparable, from spending birthday trips out of town to girls’ nights out, often ending in Gina crashing at Joni’s house. Joni says all that changed when 23-year-old Gina began dating Joni’s 49-year-old father, David, behind her back and giving birth to David’s child. Joni says she feels betrayed by Gina and her father, even going as far as sharing her dislike for her former friend and father’s newfound romance on TikTok. Gina says the picture Joni paints of them being best friends is all a lie, but in any event, Joni needs to accept her relationship with Joni’s father. David says despite his daughter’s disapproval, he is going to continue being in a committed relationship with Gina, but that doesn’t mean he can’t also have a relationship with his daughter.

10/20: Married 10 Times and Can’t Get It Right

Cassey says she’s desperate for Dr. Phil’s help because she’s been married 10 times and none of the marriages have worked out. She claims several of her exes have said it wasn’t her fault the marriage failed; it was theirs! She says she’s married all different types, from a preacher to a rocker, to her high school sweetheart, but no matter what type of man she picks, she always ends up alone. She says she’s 56 years young, still looking for the perfect match, and ready for Dr. Phil to get real with her so she can find out what’s gone wrong.

10/21: Dr. Phil Follow Up

Dr. Phil follows up with some of his favorite guests to see if they were able to turn their lives around after talking with him. Is it possible that an out-of-control teen got on the right path? Did a guest who believed he was a cyborg change? Has the “hoarding couple” finally cleaned up their house? Did a 27-year-old stop mooching off of his parents? Tune in to see what happened to these guests and more!

10/22: Mom vs. Sons: Who is Bullying Whom?

Twenty-four-year-old JT and his 20-year-old brother, Jacob, say they’d like to move out of their mom, Alisa’s, home and have independent lives, but they feel bullied by their own mother into staying at home and taking care of her. The young men also say they feel afraid to leave their mom alone because they fear she won’t be able to take care of herself. Alisa claims she was once so close with JT and Jacob, they were like “The Three Musketeers,” but in the past two years, her sons have become “like the devil,” constantly smoking marijuana and disrespecting her. Dr. Phil works to get to the bottom of exactly what is going on in this dysfunctional household. Dr. Phil invites Dr. Hans Breiter to explain to JT and Jacob more about the severe risks of using marijuana, especially for young people with developing brains.

10/23: Failure of Justice? Brutal Murders, Claims of Wrongful Conviction

Derek and Nancy Haysom were found brutally murdered late one night in March 1985. It is a fascinating tale that landed a German diplomat’s son, Jens Soering, behind bars for their murder. Soering’s girlfriend at the time, the Haysom’s daughter, Elizabeth, was convicted of accessory to murder. Although Soering did confess to the murders, he recanted just before his 1990 trial. Soering has spent 33 years behind bars until just recently when the state of Virginia granted him parole and extradited him back to Germany. Dr. Phil gets Soering's first American interview. Plus, Dr. Phil hears from Rodney Reed.

I tried to watch that episode but just couldn't.  Some of it seemed very fake.

What I did notice was Robin's SURPRISED looks she'd give the camera when it went over to her.  And I noticed her plastic surgery seems to be failing her some.  What was going on with her jaw line?  Maybe it was that lipstick.

10/27: Drinking Alcohol, Cleaning Supplies, Bug Spray: “My Twin’s Deadly Addiction”

Brittany says she and her identical twin sister, Erica, at one time both battled a severe alcohol addiction. Brittany says she is now sober, but Erica has continued her addiction and is lucky to be alive after 30 hospitalizations and 14 comas, as a result of drinking alcohol, cleaning supplies, and even bug spray to feed her addiction. Their mother, Tani, has allowed Erica to live with her, but three weeks ago, she kicked her daughter out of her home, leaving Erica homeless and committed to a psychiatric ward of a hospital after she was found in a hotel room incoherent from drinking bottles of hand sanitizer. After spending over a week in the hospital, Erica was discharged and travelled to Los Angeles with two sober escorts to face her identical twin and her mother.

10/28: An Anxious Daughter, an Animal Rescue and a Surprising Reunion

Dr. Phil visits two animal rescues in Austin, TX where his upcoming series, That Animal Rescue Show, which premieres on October 29, was filmed. Dr. Phil has linked up with Golden Globe winner and five-time Academy Award nominee Richard Linklater and the folks at CBS All Access to create this powerful docuseries which showcases how animals and humans learn to heal from each other. But first, meet 19-year-old Dy’mond who appears to have it all – she goes to college while being a successful social media influencer. Dy’mond’s father and manager, Danny, has guided Dy’mond’s career since she was 14, but now worries Dy’mond may be burned out and needs to unplug. Dr. Phil and Coach Mike Bayer discuss effective strategies for improving Dy’mond’s mental health. Then, Dr. Phil introduces Danny and Dy’mond to Jamie and David, the founders and owners of Safe in Austin, an animal rescue where handicapped animals meet young people with special needs. Dr. Phil offers an opportunity for Dy’mond to take a step back from her hectic life and spend time on their farm. Dr. Phil also visits Austin Farm Sanctuary and reunites Wanda, who was once homeless, with her three cows who she raised as her own “babies” but had to give away so they could have better lives. Finally, Dr. Phil talks about the importance of adopting rescue animals versus shopping for pets with Illinois Congressman Mike Quigley and Madeline Bernstein, President of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Los Angeles.

10/29: Up to 18 Allegations of Sexual Misconduct: “Help Me Clear My Name!”

He asks for Dr. Phil’s help to clear his name by taking a polygraph test. 10/30: A Masseuse Facing Allegations of Sexual Assault: Polygraph Results Revealed!

Tarek maintains his innocence and denies the allegations. Dr. Phil welcomes four of the world’s leading human behavior experts to analyze Tarek’s body language to see if there are any clues that could help assess whether the allegations are true or false. Dr. Phil also invites leading polygraph examiner John Groban to reveal the all-important polygraph results. What will the results reveal? Tune in to find out!

Next week: Piers Morgan, a gambling grandma, and a 21-year-old male "went-from" with (surprise, surprise) anger issues.

Quote

11/2: Gambling Grandma

Tiffany and Walker say their mother, Shari, hits the casino the moment her paycheck drops into her bank account. They say she’s nearly $90,000 in debt and currently has a balance of -$437.01 in her checking account. Walker says he’s tired of picking up his mother’s financial slack while he lets her live in his home. He says it’s time for his mother to quit the slots for good! But, is Shari able to quit cold turkey, or is she waiting for her big casino “pay day” to be able to walk away for good?

11/3: “My Wife’s Daughter is Ruining Our Marriage”

Amethyst says she made a promise to her daughter, Kyrah, that it would be just the two of them together forever. But Amethyst admits she broke that promise when she married Dustin and had three sons. Now, 10 years later, Dustin says their marriage is in trouble, and his 15-year-old stepdaughter is part of the problem. Kyrah says she wants out of the house so bad she just runs away … not once, not twice, but nine times. Is she running because mom broke her promise? Or is she just feeling like a fifth wheel? Can Dr. Phil convince Kyrah not to run for the 10th time?

11/4: From Hollywood to Mental Health Hospital

Sarah and Bart say they can no longer handle the chaos in their home coming from their 21-year-old son, Cameron, who they say has daily explosive anger episodes directed at them. That’s why they bought him a one-way plane ticket to Hollywood to pursue his musical dreams and to get him out of their home. But Cameron’s Hollywood dreams quickly turned into a nightmare. With nowhere to go, he wandered the streets of L.A. aimlessly, somehow ending up on the tarmac at LAX, before passing out on someone’s front lawn! When Cameron woke up, he was in a mental health facility with his parents by his side. Cameron says he would do anything to control the anger that has stopped him from doing anything with his life. Dr. Amen, a psychiatrist, performed brain scans on Cameron to determine if a childhood traumatic brain injury had lasting effects. You don’t want to miss the results!

11/5: “Wake-Up Call For The Country”

As the nation reels from the intense pressure of the 2020 Election, Dr. Phil welcomes broadcaster, journalist, and author Piers Morgan, whose latest book, Wake Up, is all about our divided society in the wake of COVID-19, the BLM protests, and the controversy surrounding the presidential election. Watch while Morgan reveals details of a 25-minute phone conversation he had with Donald Trump -- their first communication in months after he unfollowed Morgan on Twitter earlier this year. Dr. Phil and Morgan take a look at some of the most shocking stories of celebrities who have been "cancelled" in 2020, as well as some of the most tone-deaf mistakes made by the rich and famous. Also, how does Morgan keep his emotional and mental health in check during these trying times? Tune in to find out!

I've noticed that you can tell how a person is thought of by the camera people, when everything is a bad angle, or makes them look awful, you can bet that person treats the production people badly.

Cancel Culture

Dr. Phil investigates what he believes is a problematic phenomenon in our society: Cancel Culture: the way a large group of people can turn on and seek to dismantle the character, career, and sometimes life, of a person who says or does something that doesn't align with the group world view. Dr. Phil welcomes DailyMail.com editor-at-large Piers Morgan, whose new book Wake Up examines this very topic. Dr. Phil also invites Antifa member Daryle, and housewife turned activist Gina, who believes cancel culture is sometimes the only way to bring bigoted people to justice. Watch while Dr. Phil weighs in on this fierce debate!

This week includes a possible abusive father, the second week with a "went-from", and the moment we've been waiting for this season.

Quote

11/9: “Sex Abuse Accusations Ruined My Run for Congress and My Relationship with My Daughter”

Eighteen-year-old McKinley says that five years ago, she decided that she never, ever wanted to see or speak to her father, Cory, again. She claims her father is a violent, dangerous, “psychopath,” who physically abused her and her mother throughout her childhood. But she says what pushed her over the edge was when she learned that in 2010, her dad went to jail for 150 days for two counts of sexual battery of a minor! Cory is adamant that he’s never abused anyone, ever! He says that he believes that his ex-wife brainwashed McKinley, using what he calls “bogus charges,” to make him out to be some sort of “abusive pedophile.” Can Dr. Phil mend this broken father/daughter relationship? Find out!

11/10: "An Abusive Father or a Delusional Teen? Who is Telling the Truth?"

Tensions run high in this conclusion to a father/daughter battle. After not speaking for five years, McKinley confronts her father, Cory, for allegedly being “abusive” throughout her childhood and for being a “pedophile,” claims he adamantly denies. Dr. Phil continues to question Cory about an incident that led to Cory’s arrest for sexual battery in 2010.

11/11: From Tech-Genius to Unmotivated Mess

Tracy says her 30-year-old son, Logan, is in desperate need of help. She claims Logan has gone from a productive computer science engineer to a shell of a human being over the course of a year. Tracy says Logan has no motivation, rarely eats, and can barely function enough to take care of his basic hygiene needs – in fact, she claims he only showers once or twice a month and only if he knows he has company coming over! Tracy says even the simplest tasks, like making the bed or screwing a cap back on a bottle, have become extremely difficult for Logan. Tracy says she needs Dr. Phil to intervene to find out why her son’s motivation has disappeared and how he can get back on track.

11/11: “Help! My Handicapped Husband Treats Me Like a Slave”

Natalie says her husband, Brian, was in a tragic work accident in 2015 when he fell from a 68-foot crane. She says he was paralyzed from the knees down and claims he has stopped trying to live life. Natalie claims that since the accident, Brian has treated her and their 13-year old son, Jacob, like his slaves instead of his family. Natalie says her marriage with Brian has changed, and they don’t know how to communicate with one another. Brian says his family doesn’t understand what he is going through and that he is in too much pain to move. Brian also says Natalie’s parents, Sharyn and Dave, are too involved in his family’s lives, which is causing tension. Sharyn and Dave say they were trying to help their daughter since Natalie took on all of the responsibilities in her household.

11/12: “My Dad Believes He’s Married to a Woman Named ‘Maria’ He’s Never Met”

Shelby wants to find the truth about her father, David’s, online relationship with a woman he has never met. David says he met a woman named “Maria” online, and she has an inheritance of $10 million. David says he knows for a fact that “Maria” is a real person and can’t wait to introduce her to his daughter one day. Shelby says her relationship with her dad is broken and wishes he would spend more time with her, rather than chasing a woman who she fears doesn’t exist.

The Friday catfish (to be continued on Monday) has got to be the stupidest human being on the face of the earth.  (Although I tend to say that about all of them.)

He deserves to be taken for every penny he has, but it's a shame that his daughter has to watch him gush over the new "wife" and step-daughter.  I just hope that when he ends up alone and penniless he doesn't go crying and begging to his real daughter for a place to live and food to eat.

I  hope when the Catfish person finally runs out of money, his daughter tells him to go away, and figure out what to do without her money.    You know the second that man finds someone to let him live with them, he'll either send more money to his 'wife' or find another person to send money to.

I recognize that a catfish episode takes some effort on the part of the staff to research the thing, and for them that justifies the story taking up two episodes.  But --  an experienced viewer of "Catfish" knows that Nev and Max would have sorted out the main avenues to the truth in the first 20 minutes -- are those photos of the "wife" already up on the internet? (Yes.)  Who is that attorney to whom "Husband" has been sending $1,500 a month?  You can't just send $1500 to "Michael - Something".  Is he registered with the Texas Bar Association?  How likely is it that the woman who posed for all those very smiley photos is "too shy" to video-chat"  Seriously?

It's all so easy to research and as we linger over more photos of the "Husband" walking around &c, I'm waiting for some actual action to solve the thing.  From the preview we know they found the woman in the photos --  (Took 58 minutes to get to that..)  Interesting, these catfish episodes, but frustrating.

11/19: After the 2020 Election: Families Divided

The contentious 2020 presidential election has shown that there’s a clear divide in America – half the country is celebrating, and the other half is angry – making the upcoming holiday season especially tricky to navigate. Instead of being a time of joy, celebration and giving thanks, many families are faced with the dilemma of how not to argue with their own spouses, children and parents about politics. Dr. Phil meets a Republican father, who is barely speaking to his Democrat daughter after an argument they had over Donald Trump. Then, Dr. Phil meets another father, a lifelong Democrat, who says he raised his son to be a free thinker ... but never imagined that he’d support Trump! The election is officially over, but the drama remains. What’s Dr. Phil’s advice on how to move forward post-election without turning holiday dinners with family into a war zone over politics? Tune in!

Wow!   An historic week for Catfish show fans, one show monday that's Part 2 of last Friday's show,  then a three part on another catfish on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

However, I'm positive that even the ones that accept they are being scammed still send the person money, or find someone else to con them.   Then there are the people who are accepting money from others, and sending to the scammers, so they're actually part of the scam.

What I like is that if I miss the network broadcast, I know OWN will have the episodes on in the next day or two.

Catfish episodes are so great and so infuriating! I'm referring to Part 1 of David and Maria. I just can't with this stupid idiot David. I really cannot understand the level of delusion that he apparently lives in on a day to day basis.

Never talked to her (excuse - she's deaf). So what if she's deaf - Face Time her to make sure she's real. Put her little girl on the Phone or Face Time.

They are married -- because a random "lawyer," with a German-Nigerian accent told him to send a pic of his signature. So they are "married."

DAVID IS DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB

I could go on and on with more stupid and unbelievable comments. But my BP is going up. And yes, I'll be watching Part 2 today.

If you haven't gotten around to watching it yet, Dr. Phil takes a break from David the Dum-Dum and briefly does a health-related segment about halfway through the show before coming back on to finish the rest.
