My apologies for being away for so long. I have to admit that the latest re-tool of the US show has me running back here to see a version of the franchise I can relate to. Big thank you for continuing to post these dances. Now I just need to learn me some Polish to understand the critiques.

I've only watched the top 6 (and their All Stars). I couldn't really tell who was who, but that's because I've started at the top 6  - what do I expect?

I most enjoyed the Fred Astaire revamp with the two guys (I actually thought Joachim was a female at first, but I watched him the most of the two - so I guess at this point he is my favourite?) Not sure if it was the dancers or the fun modern choreographic take of Puttin' on the Ritz.

I also liked the two women who danced together.

I was surprised that Anna was ousted! She got the kissed foot for her beautiful point didn't she?

All told, it's reassuring to see that somewhere, someone is getting SYTYCD right.

Anothermi, I have been posting these link for the last two seasons but I was not sure if anybody was clicking on them and watching the routines (as there were no comments). I was even considering no posting them anymore. You made my day :).

These dance routines in the top 6 were choreographed by each All Star. Here is some comments about the routines and dancers.

1.     Michał Kalcowski and Alisa Florynska (S6 – Top 8) – the first and third judge were very critical. In their opinion, Michał is not improving, he dances on the same level since the audition. The middle judge liked the performance. Michał also made to the boot camp in Season 8.

2.      Aleksandra Borkowska and Brian Poniatowski (S7 Winner) – all judges agreed that this routine was very good and they really like Aleksandra.

3.      Anna Dowganowska and Natalia Madejczyk (S1 Top 6) – Anna is from Ukraine and used be an artistic gymnast. Natalia was also the gymnast hence this routine. It was fun.

4.      Joachim Uetake and Rafał "Roofi" Kamiński (S1 Runner up) – Joachim is half Polish half Japanese. His Dad is from Japan and against his dancing. He attended the second Live and watched Joachim dance for the first time. The judges really liked this routine.

5.      Stefano Silvino and Paulina Figińska (S5 Runner up) – Stefano is Italian (from Sicily). He has been living in Poland for a year and half, but his Polish is really weak. One of the judges said to both of them “If we are looking for dance, you are the dance”.

6.      Hania Szyszkiewicz and Mateusz Sobecko (S8 Winner) – Hanna is a balet dancer. She left the show –  theTop 10 week but was back next week (got a phone call 24hrs before the show and had 3-4 hours to learn and practice the routine)– Julia withdrew from the completion due to injury. Hania was the only one that did not perform in her style. She was praised for this routine.

A female judge is Ida Nowakowska Herndon - she was the Top 10 in Season 1. She is a balet dancer and lives in Los Angeles with her husband Jack Herndon- this is her instagram.

Do you have any recommendations of routines (or seasons) that would be great to start catching up? I think it is going to be a long summer.

Watched the judges first. Now THAT is a good idea. I remember the few time the US judges performed (usually in the Grande Finale) and it was great to see that they could put their money where their mouth is (so to speak). I like that these judges are still young enough to perform.

It's funny how wrong one can be about what/who you think someone is based on appearance. I would have guessed "Gleba" to be the contemporary dancer, not the B-boy and Aqustin to be a B-boy - which he is, sort of, except he's a Ballroom Boy. Hee!

They were short little pieces, but it's good to put judges credential right up front.

I've only watched Joachim (naturally) and Aleksandra's dance so far. These two are both contestants, right? Even though it's a top 8 performance? Did the All stars not begin until Top 6 or was this one of two performances per episode (usually starts at Top 10 on US version)? So they would have danced one with an all star and one with another contestant? It was quite lovely. I miss the background bits (practice sessions) but there is usually a lot more talking in those so it would be more difficult for me to follow.

I'm off to watch the others now.

I'm proud of myself that I could tell that Michał Kalcowski was "street" from his latin number you linked to. He seems to be the cute guy all the girls go wild for.

I really liked the Top 12 Jazz you linked to with Stefano Silvinio, but it was with Ola, not Aleksandra. Was it the one you meant to link to? Regardless, I loved it.

It will be interesting to see these contestants from the beginning. (but not tonight) I only have one peeve, and there is nothing i can do about it. There is always an ad before the dance clip starts - which I could live with - but sometimes I get both an english ad AND one in Polish... at the same time. And the english one tends to run over into the start of the dance. Grrrr.

The Street vs Stage theme was only done at the boot camp in Malta. The contestants were divided into two groups. There were two or three battles between the teams and one contestant was eliminated from the losing team after each battle. A female judge was the Team Captain for Team Stage and Maciej "Florek" Gleba was the Team Captain for Team Street. But the final selection was done based on the contestants final performance: eight Stage and six Street dancers were chosen into the Top 14 - Brian Friedman choreographed the final routine.

Every Polish name has at least 2 diminutive forms, that is a less formal name, used by parents and friends. You might not be familiar with this as it is very Slavic. Those are used to show affection, it is like calling a cat a kitty. Aleksandra could be Ola or Ala, Hanna - Hania, Bartosz - Bartek, etc.

The ad thing just started recently (2-3 weeks ago) and lasts 30 seconds. Not all the clips have the ads. Addblock Plus used to block these annoying ads but not anymore.

Just found this thread and found  it interesting being Polish myself, though I've never lived there. Although I understand conversational Polish perfectly well, and speak it decently, if a bit haltingly, I found it really hard to understand on these clips. They speak so much faster than I am used to! Plus the sound seems a little fuzzy.

Anyway, it was cool  to see what the show looks like. I didn't get around to watching all the clips, but it seemed to me that a few of the dancers seemed a bit less polished than those in a typical top 10 or 20 in the American version. Do they maybe tend to pick dancers who really are more on the amateur side (as I think  the original premise of the show actually was)? The dancers we have seen over here in the past few years especially just do things with their bodies which seems impossible, and I didn't get that sense with the clips I watched.

There have so many great dances from SYTYCDCanada.   Vincent was considered un-sexy to sexy Nico.  And yeah, Nico was all sex and I loved him.  But I have to appreciate Vincent.  He was truly crossed trained and really strong in African Jazz, Contemporary as well as "House" hip hop... they did hose him on a Raggedy Andy hip hop that stunk mostly because of the choreo, but Vincent and Lisa did what they could.   But where  I really saw a hot unforced chemistry was Vincent and Arrasay  doing a Disco number and for me it stands up as a great number.  Arrassay is in heels, bless her, and yet they still could pull off a risky routine.  And did I say Vincent was sexy?

Upthread there was talk about Melissa Mitro from season 4.  Man she was gooooood.  One of the best non ballroom dancers ever taking on Argentine Tango and Salsa. Luther absolutely adored her for Hip Hop, and the contemporary was just off the charts. For real.  Fearless and so freakin' strong.  Love her.

Omg this show was such a trip I s2g. I completely forgot Emanuel Sandhu was on this show! I can't help but love Blake haha, and how much raunchier this version of the show was. Remember Breaking Dishes? It totally wouldn't fly right now, but I remember loving it back then oops.
