  1. 30 years ago L&C premiered on ABC. I really enjoyed the show during its 4 seasons but wished the original show runner Deborah Joy Levine would have stayed after season 1. I wasn't a fan of the retooling of the show in mid-season 1 where they shifted the focus away from the L&C romance to a more action oriented show. I remember the fans complaining and the ratings dropping so they reversed course midway in season 2 and the ratings went back up, but still I would have preferred to see the original creator's vision played out since she certainly would not have given us the frog eating clone storyline! I know that TH and DC often get praises for their portrayals of L&C, but John Shea was also great Lex Luther.
  2. With this show being prepped for HD streaming (likely on Disney+), I wish instead they would broadcast it on ABC this fall while the writers strike continues. Come on ABC! Put this classic back on the air instead of all those reality shows.
  3. This thread needs more loving. So many great themes from the 60s, 70s and 80s have already been mentioned, but the Moonlighting theme for me is my personal favorite. It captures the essence of the show so well. Vocals by the great Al Jarreau.
  4. I agree. We will have a serious problem with the next pandemic. The politicizing of the origins of Covid and the media coverage that followed is truly frightening IMO. That's one topic that Bill keeps brining up on his show that I actually don't mind when he goes off on a tangent on it. It's truly scary how quickly news outlets labelled it as conspiracy / racist and would not discuss the origins of the virus despite the "lab leak" being a viable theory to the origin.
  5. I agree about the smugnes and it was nice to see him completely knocked off balance by RB. Heilemenn barely made any coherent points afterwards for the rest of the show including overtime as he was still fuming. 2nd week in a row that someone from MSNBC gets told straight to their face that their network is a problem. Good it should happen more often. I get it. MSNBC is not as bad as Fox, but they're still a problem. Anytime you have news network that caters to a specific target market and delivers the news in a way that the target market wants to hear the news, then it's a problem whether it's coming from Fox or MSNBC. They both use hate for the other side as a business model to get ratings. When providing examples of MSNBC misleading viewers, I'm surprised that no one mentioned the Rachel Maddow & OLN lawsuit as an example. Rachel was pushing night after night the Russian conspiracy story to the point of calling the OAN network as agents for Russia and them providing paid propaganda. After the lawsuit, MSNBC had to go to court and admit that the Maddow show is more entertainment than actual factual news. The Judge even acknowledge this in her ruling noting that Maddow's show is nothing more than hyperbole, exaggeration and pure opinion where MSNBC viewers should not assume that Maddow's show is factually true even when Maddow uses language of certainty. It's interesting story to read and sad acknowledgement about what the news media has become. I hope Dominion wins the lawsuit against Fox so that the network goes away and we never have to hear from Carlson & cie again. Unfortunately, I see them using a similar argument that MSNBC used to get out of it.
  6. Going way back to the early 80s for "V" the original mini series when Julie stands up in the line of fire with just a gun against the firepower of the Visitor's shuttle and then Donovan comes in at the end. Starts around the 2 minute mark in the clip below
  7. The final in the key demo was actually 0.64 beating out CBS in the key demos for the night. Everyone at ABC must be ecstatic with the Rookie's performance on its new night. After being on the cancellation bubble for most of season 1 , then moving to what was considered a death time slot at 10 p.m. on Sunday nights, the Rookie has survived multiple seasons facing stiff competition the last few seasons. And now it's likely going to be renewed for a 6th season. I never thought it would last this long. Congrats to NF for having back to back successful TV shows on ABC.
  8. These two might have already been mentioned by others but I thought I would mention them anyway. Not sure how either could have lasted more than one season based on their premise. Still they were both entertaining summer shows. Harper's Island and BrainDead
  9. I'm really enjoying revisiting this show for the 1st time in a long time. I tried to do this with Moonlighting a while back but quit midway into season 4 after the show lost its way. I've just started Season 2 of RS and watched only a few episodes but no complaints so far. The show is still so much fun with Season 1 having some fantastic episodes. I love that the episodes are close to 50 minutes long giving the stories time to breath. Plus that wonderful jazzy score gives the show such a classy style. Laura is still amazing after all these years. Compared to Maddie Hayes, I would choose Laura every time. And I'm a big Moonlighting fan too, but there is something special about Laura Holt as portrayed by Stephanie Zimbalist. Bastet above perfectly described her and why she's amazing. Speaking of Moonlighting, IMO the season 1 episodes written by Glenn Gordon Caron are prequels to what he would do on Moonlighting. You can easily recognize his style of writing since he would use that template on Moonlighting. For instance, having 2 characters arguing and having their lines overlapping each other worked well on Moonlighting but not on Remington Steele.
  10. A sentimental favorite for me. I'm guessing this one is from the late 80s.
  11. Another hilarious episode. This season has been great so far. I loved how Chucky tried to get in a couple of extra fucks just as the end credits appeared.
  12. This is actually a wonderful story idea.
  13. The WKRP episodes previously mentioned are great ones. I loved that show. I'd like to add to the list the "Alf Christmas special" from the late 80's. For a sitcom featuring an Alien that always getting into wacky trouble every episode, this one was truly a different kind of episode dealing with suicide and a terminally ill young girl on Christmas Eve.
  14. The Master was great in all it's glorious cheese right down to the much shorter stunt double doubling for Lee Van Cleef 😃
  15. IA. It was a nice surprise to see Beth played by the original actress. Georgia on My Mind should have been playing on the radio while she worked on the car.
  16. About the same age too when I started watching it. Still a great show from the 80s. Looking back on it now, I'm realizing that Remington Steele was a bit of a jerk going around spoiling all those classic movies that he loved to reference and giving away all the endings to Laura 😃
  17. I agree a very fun episode and I glad they found a way to keep Donno on the show.
  18. I'll give it another couple of episodes too but it really wasn't great. As others have mentioned above, this show would be much better without the character of Simone. Just like the Rookie, I find myself more interested in the supporting cast than the lead character. If they were going to do a spin-off of the Rookie, why couldn't they have done one focusing on Smitty instead who gets transferred to the another department and tries desperately NOT to advance in the departement? I hope we've seen the last of the horrible plot device of Simone coming to the rescue by accessing her top secret national database of high school guidance counsellors secret records. 🙄
  19. Miss them both dearly too 😀 and wish they had lasted much longer. Both Sledge and Voyagers were really fun shows but as Raja mentioned above doing parody shows and keeping the content fresh over multiple seasons would have been challenging especially for a show like Sledge Hammer. Still there's a bit of innocence and carefree on how some of these 80's shows were written back then that is missing in todays shows IMO. Maybe it's nostalgia but I'll take them over a lot shows from today that follow too much of the same formula. That's especially true on what you get on the big networks these days when it comes to police procedurals that are interchangeable. Plus those 80s shows had great theme songs and intros! I was also very surprised and disappointed that Limitless, Life of Mars and another one that I forgot to mention (Forever) got cancelled with only 1 season under their belts. As for Raven, yeah the Saturday night slot was a death sentence. Too bad as I was really into martial arts back then and the show had some really great martial arts choreography.
  20. Friday the 13th was a great series IMO from the 80s and it had nothing to do with the movies. What I enjoyed was the heroes didn't always succeed in their quest to retrieve the cursed antiques and the female lead was not written as a damsel in distress. Some of the episodes really hold up well + 30 years later.
  21. I loved this season too! I just love how they embrace the earlier movies and give characters other than Daniel these wonderful little story arcs. As others mentioned Chosen was the MVP of the season. I was really worried that they would kill him off and was relieved to see him survive. I still think the show has a few more seasons potentially if they want to go there and I'll be here enjoying every minute of it.
  22. You are right about it being very popular. I'm actually surprised how popular it's gotten. I looked at the Rookie Facebook page and postings containing Chenford content get way more responses than any other posts. A lot more. They even had a recap video of the top 5 things you need to know before going into season 5 and Chenford was # 1 (ahead of Nolan's story). Back to the Bishop comment from season 1. In my mind, I always took it as Bishop telling Chen not to date another cop while being a rookie. Otherwise that is horrible advice to give someone to tell them they can never date a co-worker for the rest of their career. Imagine telling Lucy that no matter how much she progresses and advances in the police force (such as becoming a detective, advancing to captain, etc) that she can never date a fellow co-worker because others will not take you seriously. That's horrible advice to give someone because by that point she's more than proven herself. I think the writers realize the ambiguity in Bishop's speech to Lucy since they've been sprinkling comments about how good Lucy has become since she's is no longer a rookie.
  23. Shows I wish had lasted much longer: From the 80s: Sledge Hammer: Hilarious spoof of Dirty Harry and other cop TV movies/shows. Voyagers: Before Quantum Leap, there was Voyagers going back in time to fix history Probe: Created by Isaac Asimov, a smart series about a scientific prodigy going around solving crimes. From the 90s: My So Called Life: Already mentioned a few times in this thread, but worth repeating. So raw and real. Way ahead of its time. Loved it. Raven: Created by Frank Lupo (who also created Hunter and the A-team), this show would have been a hit had it aired in the 80s instead of Saturday nights on CBS in the early 90s. A former Assassin is searching for his son in Hawaii while himself being hunted by a group of assassins called the Black Dragons. Post 2000: Already mentioned a few times but I really enjoyed the following shows and wished they all had gotten more than 1 season: Life on Mars, Limitless, Awake, Whiskey Cavalier, and Miss Match Edit: Even though it lasted 3 seasons, I also wish Friday the 13th the series had lasted longer.
  24. Most of the Chenford scenes up to this point in the last 4 seasons IMO could always have been interpreted as 2 co-workers having a playful banter and who care for each other. Lucy's reaction to Tim's fake proposal and her disappointed when Tim told her that he could see himself as being married to Ashley was the 1st clear indication to me that the writers finally acknowledged that one of them has feelings for the other.
