  1. Yep. I also thought it was unrealistic that the patient was admitted to the hospital just because he presented with headaches and fatigue. With no prior CT scan or anything. And then Carol supposedly knew he had cancer because, in addition to having a history of migraines, he was itchy for the past month? Really? Honestly, I only liked Patricia Heaton and Kyle MacLachlan in this pilot, and I agree with the poster above who suggested they should have cast stronger comedic actors in the supporting roles. On the plus side, I did think it was better than The Unicorn premiere, but that is not saying much. I will probably give Carol's Second Act a few more episodes though because of Patricia. Her character was hyped up for her first day as an intern, but I thought Heaton still seemed very natural and believable. She is such a pro. On a shallow note, I thought Patricia Heaton looked great! (To me she looked more attractive than the actress playing her daughter.) She also has a rather cute and charming way about her that makes her character, who otherwise might be too grating, much more appealing to me.
  2. Thank you for that! I was trying to figure out what I knew the female cop from, and she wasn't listed as part of the cast on IMDB. I think she looks familiar to me from Summer in the Vineyard which I watched earlier this year, although I can't remember who her character was. She also played Fiona in two episodes of Dead Like Me, but I watched that many years ago and I can't think of who Fiona was either.
  3. I had a strong feeling about that person from the start - not really based on anything other than intuition - and when Travis picked up the photo and mentioned the six months thing, I felt pretty certain I was right. But I really liked the way it all played out, and I loved the surprise reveal! I didn't think they already knew too, so it was great to see how it was all resolved. I agree with you. This last episode is my favorite, although I've enjoyed all of them. I appreciate the variety in the situations and you're right about the two of them being on equal footing. I haven't watched any other mystery series on Hallmark, but I've read enough cosy mysteries to know how problematic they tend to be/become with the amateur sleuth's involvement being too unbelievable and the typical cop/detective love interest trope. I find Kristoffer Polaha very believable in this role, also. He's so natural, and has terrific chemistry with Jill Wagner. I hope they make a bunch more of these.
  4. I guessed too, but there were enough other distractions going on to keep it interesting. I love Jill Wagner, Kristoffer Polaha and the actor who plays the author/father. I think this has been a great series so far.
  5. I'm glad you found us - I enjoyed your post and I'm looking forward to the new episodes. 🙂
  6. I totally agree with you! Which is why I will not be signing up for the app anytime soon. (I was just gathering information about the app and Linux in case we get rid of the cable channels. That's the only way I would ever pay for it, and even then probably only for a month or two at the most.) It really should be included if you already pay for the cable channels.
  7. I was looking at supported devices, and my only option (since I wouldn't want to watch on my phone) is the web option with Firefox, but it lists Windows or iOs as required, and I use Linux. (I'm a recent Windows 7 refugee who refuses to downgrade to Windows 10, so I switched to the superior Linux Mint OS.) I wonder if it's just an oversight that they didn't list Linux, since the player would be browser based? Does anybody here use it with a Linux operating system?
  8. I love Taste of Romance! I saw it was on halfway through, but I still have my previous recording of it... so I decided to give it another rewatch. I was already crying during the first scene when young Hannah met Sarah. Bailey and Teri were both so great in this movie. I liked the lead actor too. (I'm too lazy to look up his name right now, but I'm pretty sure he was Elaine's "Desperado" boyfriend in Seinfeld.) I wish Teri Polo would do more of these. She deserves a script worthy of her talents though. TVFan17, thanks for the info about the upcoming movies. I will keep an eye out for Luke Macfarlane!
  9. Those things need to be banned! American Housewife had an episode in which they released a ton of those things - it's so irresponsible for television and movies to promote such a horrible thing. How can anybody think that's an acceptable thing to do? Geez, people are so idiotic these days! Edited to Add: I Googled to make sure "wish lanterns" were the same thing I was thinking of, and found this news story. So ridiculous! I doubt they are capable of producing a movie like that, but it's one I would very much enjoy watching! Speaking of enjoyable... The Birthday Wish with Jessy Schram and Luke MacFarlane was on tonight, and I got sucked into watching it again. It's such a cute movie. Jessy and Luke have a wonderful, easy chemistry, and the relationship between them develops in a very believable way. (Well, except that Jessy's character doesn't dump her narcissistic boyfriend much earlier, since Luke's character is so awesome... that part was difficult to understand.) Looking at his IMDB page, I think I've liked Luke MacFarlane in every Hallmark movie he's starred in... but for some reason I tend to forget about him when I think of my favorite Hallmark leading men. He's definitely high on the list though. PS: Why does my browser spellcheck think "movie" is not a word?? Then again, it doesn't think "favorite" is either.
  10. I think so too. He is the kind of good-looking that has to be paired with an equally attractive co-star for me to find it believable. Like in From Friend to Fiancé... Jocelyn Hudon was a great match for him. If the leads are not equally attractive or at least pretty close, they need more build up and a better story for me to buy into it, usually... and that is not Hallmark's strong suit. Sometimes if the match is way off, it can feel like they're pandering to the large female segment of their audience. Especially when they cast those wooden male model types that weren't hired for their acting skills. I also tend to dislike their dog/puppy-related movies too, because they feel very calculated to me. Same with military deployment storylines, etc. I may be overly cynical, but Hallmark movies are usually so contrived and "by the numbers" anyway... certain elements feel too manipulative and immediately elicit a hard-pass from me. (Sorry, Hallmark. I need you to try harder!)
  11. I looked her up. She had a supporting role in Love on Safari - directed by Leif Bristow. Is that her father? It looks like he produced and/or directed all her Hallmark movies. (At least the ones I recognized as Hallmark.)
  12. I agree with you Phebemarie, and I've had a strong feeling that we have not seen the last of The Kids Are Alright. It is way too awesome to just disappear. Someone will be smart enough to snatch it up. {{fingers crossed}}
  13. I think Meriwether's Bless This Mess was even less deserving of a renewal over TKAA. Its ratings were tanking hard during its abbreviated season. I agree with you about Tim.... the quality of his work speaks for itself. Probably a bunch of ageist bigotry by ABC also.
  14. Yeah, their excuses for cancelling TKAA are a bunch of BS. Honestly, I think it's incredibly suspicious that they renewed both of Elizabeth Meriwether's two horrible shows - Single Parents & Bless This Mess - which both had well-deserved poor reviews and bad ratings (which will only get worse this fall.) It totally makes me wonder what Liz Meriwether has on the ABC execs. 😉 Something's not right there. The Kids Are Alright just needed more exposure, because almost everyone who actually watched an episode or two became fans. That cannot be said for Liz Meriwether's horrible shows that were renewed instead of TKAA.
  15. I really liked Susan Lucci in Devious Maids, and thought she was pretty hilarious in a lot of scenes. I don't watch any of the mystery series other than Kristoffer Polaha's Mystery 101 (so it's a ton of posts to scroll through on this thread)... but I would tune in for Paul Campbell crackin' wise and solving crimes! (His movie this summer was one of the few enjoyable ones for me.)
  16. Thank you for writing all that, I couldn't agree more! The movie was terribly cast and just awful, in my opinion. I could barely suffer through it.
  17. Thanks for posting those. She's so adorable! C'mon Quentin... you can just admit you watch American Housewife. 😛
  18. I had the complete opposite reaction regarding the plot line of Sister of the Bride -- I thought this was one of the most predictable movies I've seen, and I've seen a lot of predictable Hallmark movies. Once they got to the house, I never for a moment doubted that the leads would be the ones getting married. This movie was extremely boring to me, and I agree with you that the tart decorating was idiotic... I thought it was the height of lameness. I also kind of hated the lead actress. I didn't mind her as much in Love at First Dance, but she really bugged me in this movie.
  19. Oh wow, I don't know how I missed those! Most Painful Cancellation Favorite Performance by an Inamimate Object (I voted for Knuckles!) Also: Best Costuming
  20. These are the categories I found it in (there could be others I missed): Favorite New Show Favourite Comedy Show Best Writing Funniest Scene from a Comedy Favorite Leading Actor/Actress Favourite Season/Series Finale Best Set Design
  21. This was from a while back, but fun to see - The Kids Are Alright Cast Take Us Back To The '70s!
  22. According to this article, ABC included the following The Kids Are Alright episodes in their Emmy mailer: I think they should have substituted Valentine's Day with Timmy's New Hobby. Then again... maybe they were afraid the show they stupidly cancelled would win an Emmy(s) if they included that episode.
