  1. [snip] The only reason I started watching "19 Kids" again was because of the courtships of Jill/Derick and Jessa/Ben (I think this is the big reason for the increase in ratings). I want to see the children break free from the cult, thus the speculations on what Jill and others will do once they are married. [snip]
  2. I agree! Send the money to the full-time missionaries and stay home! Now a short-term mission like Derick had could be useful to the full-timers as well as the residents of the area.
  3. Hobby Lobby will cover all FDA-approved birth control methods, including oral contraceptives, except Plan B, Next Choice, and Ella (which are "morning after"-type pills), and IUDs, because those are all potentially abortifacient.
  4. Gil Bates is on the IBLP board of directors, and I'm hoping he's gotten fed up with all the info. on Gothard's "indiscretions" and he walks away.
  5. I'm snarking. Of course it's normal to normal people. But to Ben & Jessa, it might seem defrauding.
  6. The pic with Jill on Derick's lap looks like flaunting their marital status in front of Bin (and presumably Jessa). It's DPD (deliberate public defrauding).
  7. It's not like Michelle came up with the phrase "cause others to be defrauded". This is straight from Gothard, the pervert.
  8. I really like Jana - she's such a natural beauty, and she gives indications, small ones, of how she's really feeling. Run Jana run!!
  9. He should have taken her face in his hands, That way he could make sure he hit her lips instead of the side of her face!
  10. "He's a great kisser," Duggar told E! News. "All his trumpet playing paid off!" Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/gossip/jill-duggar-husband-derick-dillard-great-kisser-article-1.1843498#ixzz35h5p9S00 Trumpet playing. Yep, that's exactly like kissing. Not.
  11. If anyone's interested, here's a post that enumerates many allegations of abuse at IBLP/ATI training centers, etc. It'll blow your socks off. Reminds of the tactics of Scientology. http://heresyintheheartland.blogspot.co.uk/2014/06/a-real-investigation-into-iblp.html
  12. The standards "Jill and Dill set" were set for them years ago by Gothard. Notice that their rules were the exact ones set by Josh and Anna, David & Priscilla, and the ones currently in place for Jessa & Ben? But the Duggars are slowly de-Gothardizing (it'll take them a long time since they're not what you would call analytical), now that the little man is thoroughly disgraced and his teachings are being trashed. It will take a very long time for the brainwashing to dissipate, but when it does, the Duggars will be much more ordinary Christians.
  13. Congratulations to Jill and the approximately 60,000 other brides who married in the US on Saturday. Puts it into perspective, doesn't it.
  14. Avoiding kissing to be "safe" is adding to what the Bible forbids, which is premarital sex. It reminds me of those pesky old Pharisees, who Jesus condemned in part because of "teaching as doctrines the precepts of men" (Mt. 15:9). The Pharisees added new restrictions to the law of Moses to keep people at a safe distance from forbidden ground, or as they themselves taught, "They made a fence around the Law." One example of such a teaching was they forbade the use of many things on the Sabbath on the ground that their use might lead to prohibited labor. This reminds me of the old joke - do you know why Baptists never have sex standing up? Because it might lead to dancing? :) Beside this, it's just ludicrous that Jill and Derick wouldn't have been "safe" to kiss hello or goodbye, etc., when they were NEVER ALONE! Finally, if kissing is such a marital thing (i.e., sexual), why in the world would they kiss in public?
  15. I'm a Christian, and it bugs me how the Duggars elevate the twisted teaching of Gothard/Patriarchy over the Bible. Michelle tells Jill never to say no to her husband because he has "needs". But the Bible is more nuanced. The New Testament says: "The husband should fulfill his wife's sexual needs, and the wife should fulfill her husband's needs." It goes on to say: "Do not deprive each other of sexual relations, unless you both agree to refrain from sexual intimacy for a limited time so you can give yourselves more completely to prayer." (New Living Translation)
  16. So sad. Girls who are raised to avoid all contact with boys, including casual conversation, and who are taught not to even think about sex, need at the least a primer on how to attain orgasm --- and that it's OKAY -- and her husband will really enjoy seeing her response! And that absolutely nothing about it is dirty or wrong. Check out the Song of Solomon (that's in the Bible).
  17. Jill: NEVER NEVER NEVER go to your mom for marriage advice! The first, and best, thing to do is talk things out with your husband. Don't keep secrets. And oh, did I mention? Don't ask your mom for advice. Ever.
  18. So sad to hear Derick's mom is battling cancer! I'm hoping her being unable to attend the rehearsal is due to the effects of the treatment rather than something even worse. This puts a cloud over the wedding, but it's a part of life. On the positive side, let's hope some of Derick's friends make a play for Jana & Jinger!!!
  19. The IBLP/ATI board has issued a public statement regarding Bill Gothard. It's wishy-washy and extremely disappointing, but considering that they utilized David Gibbs, Jr. as the "outside counsel", it's about what you could expect. It's believed that NONE of the victims of sexual harassment/molestation were interviewed at all. The door is left open for Gothard to step back into leadership after a time of "reconciliation". Not much different than the whitewashing that happened during the scandal of 1980. Here's the link: http://iblp.org/news/time-transition
  20. Jerick wedding day forecast: Upper 80's with 30% chance of rain. Turn on the AC at the church!!
  21. Changing the subject a little, many on the Dugger forums wonder why, if the children are so well-raised, that the parents need to set courting standards and the courting couple needs to be chaperoned. I think the answer, in part, is that the Gothard system will blame the parents if the children do not turn out well, and the whole family can lose favor with the group if a child "fails". So everything must be structured as much as possible to make sure that doesn't happen. Michelle especially would be crushed if she were dethroned from Gothardism. Some people people like Michelle thrive under the system, but others are beaten down by it. Make no mistake, the parents are under a great deal of pressure, too, to keep up with ever-increasing standards. So why get into such a system in the first place? I read this quote at the Under Much Grace blog, and it pretty well sums it up: "Rather than educating children, the option [high demand homeschooling] becomes a means of raising the fantasy family when kids turn out to be the adults that their parents desire."
