  1. I lost my Saturday to this series. Truly excellent and a bit terrifying. I definitely made sure my doors were locked last night. When this aired I thought I heard a lot of anti man talk but I thought this series did a good job of spreading the blame around and showing how people can be wrong but not evil. Remember it was Marie's foster moms who initially put the idea in the police's mind that she was lying. And I can't blame them too much when she almost immediately rolled over and said she was. There is a certain segment of the population out there that fancy themselves smarter or investigators and they are always looking to see people as lying (so they can seem the super smart one). A lot of such people are in law enforcement I think here that was the foster mom. One question I have and I am not sure... in my state typically they have a victim advocate that gets assigned almost immediately after a sexual crime. There is one in the victim's corner in other states? They are support and answer questions about the process. In terms of the settlement with the city I was kind of annoyed. Not only that she didn't get a ton of money but I thought it should have been explained to her that unless she made it *hurt* the city would never change their ways. I can't help but notice that the two police forces with the female detectives seemed to have more money than where Marie was and I am sure that played in the pressure to have her crime solved. At the end when Marie thanked the detective I sort of felt the same. This is a real message to anyone who would try such a thing again that they will fail and they will spend 300 years in prison or (as is probably likely) be killed in prison.
  2. I love most of the new cast with the exception of Helena Bonham Carter. She just doesn't look or act like Margaret. I did agree that the recasting of former King Nazi didn't work. I think Alex Jennings should have stayed on. I like the actors playing both Charles and Anne. They really capture their essence even if they don't look a lot like them.
  3. IMHO this whole show is a propaganda piece meant to rehabilitate the crown before QEII's death and Charles coming to the throne. But truly they also have little choice. If they want to make this show they have to sort of toe the line and not really make anyone angry. Thus a lot of the bad people on the show are the dead ones.
  4. I enjoyed the season but I didn't enjoy this episode. I suspect they focus so much on Phillip and Margaret because of the actors who play them not wanting small roles... but I am sick to death of Margaret. I can cut Phillip more slack because of the hard life he had as a child but Margaret has really had a lot. I also don't like HBC in the role. IMHo she just plays herself all the time and doesn't really capture an essence. I think Vanessa Kirby did. I did enjoy the scenes with Harold Wilson. Elizabeth was right he did have a much better personality.
  5. I just can't get into Margaret. She does seem like a bit of a Debbie Downer. Everyone on this show is just one *thing* from being the queen. If it really is true that she spent her life essentially being a green eyed monster I feel bad for her and get annoyed at her mother for not checking her earlier and making her daughter do something productive with her life but I am getting tried of the show sort of making it as if Margaret had a legitimate beef.
  6. Agree. In general the acting has been so much better this season and I think Tobias really captures Phillips real life effortless jerk essence. I think this is the best pro royal family propaganda Phillip could ever hope for and yet, he still comes across as a jerk. I happed to enjoy this not especially for Phillip's journey but perhaps it is something that we all go though in mid life. I enjoyed the "character" Phillips realization that what worked for him as a youth didn't work in midlife when he probably thought it would. I liked his reflection / realization that maybe he didn't know best for once. I liked that he did seem to miss his mom. On a personal level I have had the opportunities to meet heroes of mine only to find out they didn't know much more than me and were just human... that is always shocking. I also thought it was an intriguing look at two "big" stories looking at each other in a way that isn't usually brought up. It just moved me a bit. But make no mistake Phillip is still a jerk.
  7. As a conspiracy theorist, I sort of smell a rat with the Nazi story. I can't believe more people don't. For years and years the story was that he abdicated to be with a woman but then, just recently, after he is dead and can't defend himself, this Nazi story came out. It is as if there is a "deep state " that is devoted to heaping on to this guy's bad reputation. I am not saying he wasn't a youthful idiot that was likely too impressed with the Nazi's but I think it has been exaggerated for effect or maybe just lied about. It seems even this episode forgot about it. I suspect the queen seeing him probably had a lot more to do with love for her father than her uncle, but if true, it was a classy and brave move. . I do think there are a lot of similarities with Charles and his uncle. I do think Charles is a progressive and a bit of an idiot. What I think, and this goes for both, is that your beliefs change when you are the King. It is easy to be "feeling" when you are #2 with no real power. I really have a problem with the actress playing Camilla... she doesn't seem anything like the person I saw photos of and I am having a hard time connecting this person with the real life Camilla.
  8. I had a free ticket but I really disliked it. The good, Emilia Clark carried this on her shoulders. She needs a new agent as she is much better than the things she gets. The screenplay was thin and like a lot of things that Feig directs I feel like 30% of the movie was ad libbed. Henry Golding was sweet and likable. The rest, ugh. There were three different plots in this movie which didn't seem to add anything to the movie and seemed out of place, perhaps to pad the runtime. You know, side plots are supposed to add to the main character's lesson learned not just be over there ... with no signifigant tie in. I didn't think the plot made a lot of sense. After her experiences with Tom, Kate decides to take better care of herself and be kinder to everyone around her, imho that is NOT something that logically flows from their time together. Tom was rather a cardboard cut out of a human. Not a real human. The ending seemed like a crass rip off of Love Actually right down to the Christmas sing along. Which was kind of selfish and not really helping anyone but herself -- since it is established she likes to sing but no one thinks she is that good. Getting a few extra bucks for a homeless shelter? I can't help but think how pointless that is.

    Midway (2019)

Anyone seen this? I hear it is killing it at the box office.
  10. The moment I heard what happened to Clarke's character "last Christmas" I knew. On the one had I feel increasingly frustrated with writers that seem to be lazy and this seems to be lazy and it annoys me because this only flies because Emma Thompson wrote it. One the other hand are we saying that every movie has to be explained like a complicated math problem. Can't movies just have fun and not think to much about it? I probably will go see it anyway.
  11. Well, it seems this is tanking with an estimated 28K opening weekend. It is too bad that many people will go to see it. It just encourages these studios to keep trying to make movies so they will get "some" money. But I heard this one had a big budget so... not helpful.
  12. Another example of Hollywood taking a popular property and grafting the story they want to tell on it. I thought it was horrible.
  13. Well maybe they shouldn't if they look like this. This movie is not going to help matters. If she was playing a mom sitting around talking ok but I am going to have to cringe watching her walking around with the massive machine gun when she looks like she has osteoporosis. I am going to guess that for years she didn't want to do the role because she thought she was too old... she is. Arnold is laughable as well but at least he has the "terminator" to fall back on. In theory in these movies he is a machine. Sigourney Weaver is 70 and probably could do an action role. Linda Hamilton... nope.

    Joker (2019)

I thought it was amazing too. When "the end" came up I was like, omg, it's over? I was glued to the screen for the entire thing that never happens. I was totally spoiled but one part I had managed not to know about.. gut punch. Arthur's speech on the show was perfect and sadly a scathing indictment of modern media. I really got me when he was talking about how everyone is terrible and there is no way to get away from people these days - it is enough to make one crazy. Yup. I thought it was possible it was all in Arthur's head as in the first scene with the therapist the wall clock says the same time as it does in the flash to Arkham. My only issue with the movie is that this is a great movie but, it isn't Joker. Not in the DC sense. So... that is a bit disappointing to me. But I suppose it wouldn't be doing as good as it is if it was named "Arthur Fleck".
  15. Not buying that. She knows she looks old... trying to save face. Arnold isn't looking too great either. The whole thing just looks like a train wreck. This storyline is completely played out.
  16. I just can't get over how horribly she has aged. She looks positively ancient. It puts me off seeing it when I wonder if the kick back from the gun is going to break her arm.
  17. Yes I have often said that Hollywood constantly pushes this idea that women are supposed to have sex at the drop of a hat to condition everyone watching that they should do that. I am just used to it at this point. I didn't know what the "unicorn" referred to going in but the entire concept is insulting. I would have bought it if it was some great looking guy who also was like a lawyer or something but I am not even sure this guy works. Also, Walter Goggins is listed as a producer so perhaps some of the experiences are from what happened in real life.
  18. Yup. I had hoped it was going to be more like Veronica Mars. Who had her tortures but was too smart to be brought down by them or to bring down others with them. Veronica always outsmarted the baddies rather than having me have to balk at a 90 lbs teenager taking on two much larger men. Veronica never would have been hired to find someone and not looked to make sure no one was following her first. And she was 16 and had to go to school every day. Once you see a female PI like that you just can't go back to the bad old days... you know?
  19. Boy they pushed this but I thought it was terrible. Walter Goggins imho can't play a normal person and he doesn't pull it off here. Finally, not sure I see where this show can go. I mean this week seemed like the entire story. And just me, but annoyed again to see his date is a much younger woman. Goggins is not that hot.
  20. Gosh I thought this was hysterical. I haven't laughed that much in a while. I do have concerns about Ashley Tisdale. I do get tired of Lucas Neff just playing the same person all the time but everything else was funny. In general I hate canned applause so that is difficult.
  21. I enjoyed this. It was downright scary. I didn't like the main character but was interested in what happened to her. I will give them great credit for providing interesting background for the main character, a great location (loved that house), and Christine Lahti. I was a little annoyed that it didn't seem that the show took a stand. There were several fake outs and then it all seemed to come to science. So is this a show about debunking the claimed supernatural or a show where supernatural could exist. I wasn't sure.
  22. I disliked it as well. Boring CBS style procedural. Silly woman who weighs all of 90 lbs beating up two much bigger men. Her down syndrome brother came off as an accessory and not a real character. Sue-Lynn and her knitting of death seemed embarrassing as a bad guy. If I am meh on the pilot ... no reason to turn in.

This. Hollywood thinks they have found the winning formula doing this but I am getting sick of it. Hard pass.

    S01.E01: Pilot

I thought there might be a connection when Piper almost immediately decided she was trustworthy and would not leave her side. I wasn't as thrilled with it as others. I thought the middle part dragged and I can just see this show spinning its wheels on any plot development. I am sooo tired of that kind of thing. Ah la Manifest. I did enjoy Jo outsmarting the "parents" with old school simplicity of asking to see the phone.
  25. Same, I think it looks bad. Timothée Chalamet looks too young to be on screen with Jo.
