  1. Seems like Box office isn't doing too well. I am not an MI fan but I gave this franchise another shot specifically because Ilsa had done a lot to make me trust that there was something in it for me. I think Ilsa had done a lot to bring women into the franchise. But I think when women saw this plot line they were like, ok done with this. The creators of this franchise still don't get it. In they days since I have found so many problems with this movie it isn't funny. I don't like their explanation of the IMF and the "choice" - essentially the trope of having criminals join just didn't rub me the right way and was ripped off from La Femme Nikita. This is a good video.
  2. I find it funny that this movie is so problematic for the pc issues but the poor girl in the brace is never mentioned. And Joan Cusack, it wasn't funny.
  3. I had thought that MI took a lot of flack for this disposable woman / damsel early on and the movies worked to change that... with Ilsa. This is what helped MI to go from a franchise on the way out - to a solid performer. So to have this kind of disposable woman (for Ethan's feelings) all over again is very disappointing. Beyond that it is just laughable that Grace, who has no spy / IMF training can just step in. Sure she might have good instincts but she would have to be trained - right? I mean Ilsa is MI6. I also feel like if they didn't want Ilsa around she easily could have been left out of the movie. Like Jeremy Renner's character.

    S01.E10: Outside

I actually liked that because it seems like usually in history truth never comes out the first time. It takes many people giving their lives to - step by step - get the truth out and usually the final person gets the credit. But no one ever remembers, or in some cases, knows about the people who made it happen. I did like this show. I do think maybe by accident... it is commenting on the current world. I do think there are conspiracy theories that do, more often than not, turn out to be true. When we question something and we don't understand why people turn a certain way to get into power, perhaps there is a good reason we just don't understand. The acting was great... except for, Tim Robbins and Common, which is disappointing given their roles. I enjoyed Julliet making errors but thought it was kind of laughable that she goes from mechanical to sheriff so easily. My nitpick is that, after the first person died by diving over the silo stairs I would imagine that they would put up some sort of fence to stop it.
  5. I must have missed all that but I still think it was completely lame. A case of dropping a line to explain an elaborate set piece.

    Napoleon (2023)

I am a little worried about it. What I know of Napoleon doesn't seem to be in this movie. To me it looks like they cast people and then wrote a movie to show them off. Screw history.
  7. Saw it weeks ago. Loved it. I honestly didn't think it was all that raunchy. The beach scene excluded. To me it was just more a coming of age story - for both Maddie and Percy. Also, I liked that everyone involved was coming from a place of kindness. No one had ill intent.
  8. Me too. I am sorry to say this one is a turd. I just don't buy that Ilsa would be so easily disposed. It was laughable after several movies and even an early fake out of her death. There is so much that didn't make sense and made the movie too long. Such as...What was with that elaborate ruse so Ethan could talk to Kittridge at the start? Why did the AI seem to want to fridge someone to hurt Ethan? That isn't like a computer to want to be vindictive. Not understanding why Gabriel would care either - they didn't build up enough to sell a long standing feud. To go as far as to have an entire scene where the spell out that one of the damsels in distress would die because they meant something to Ethan (and why did Grace mean anything to Ethan at that point)? And I am sorry but Esai Morales was just completely boring and not up to taking on Ethan, backed by an AI or not. Also, Benji and Luthor seemed to get sidelined early on. I did enjoy Grace and Haley Atewell and the action scenes were great. But the actual script needed more refining.
  9. And Robert Zemeckis told the public that the "hover boards" in Back to the Future 2 were real new tech to promote the movie. Not buying that this is real in anyway.
  10. It is funny but I don't buy for a second that the guy who supposedly isn't an actor -- isn't an actor. Logistically there is no way they could get away with this entire show if he wasn't and he isn't selling it to me. He has too much reaction to things. How do they explain the camera to him? Does he think there is a news camera in there and in the jury room? I deal with "jury duty" daily and I truly hope no one seriously thinks this is what it is like. The cost to "sequester" a jury is a lot. No way a judge is doing that except for the most extreme of cases.
  11. I will go with the convention of the show that people just can't see it. The glasses obscure anyone from guessing. When Lana found out she made a remark about how did she not see it? Indeed, Lana. I think it was stupid that supes was calling Jordan's name. I only hope they address giving Jordan a code name in another episode. Also stupid why does Jordan have goggles that are just normal. The first time he uses his heat vision won't they be destroyed? I wasn't thrilled with this episode. It was wayyy to soap opera. I resent the entire cancer storyline because obviously Lois isn't going to die and I think on a show like this it is insulting to bring it out. I also get irritated at the idea this is the first time Clark might really consider Lois could die and he couldn't do anything. Pregnancy with alien twins that you can't tell medical authorities about is the stuff of pure terror.
  12. I didn't like it. The music is great but how many times has great music made a trailer seem great. I hate the color and the drab look to it. Even the start was GOT levels of hard to see.
  13. It is for me if he didn't *really* believe it. If he had seen Rachel rather than just hear about it second hand I would be lost as to how he could react like that, but I can see him doubting it in his head as most of the time Rachel was always the put together one in the relationship and in the "first world" people do tend to throw such terms around willy nilly.
  14. This was one of the best things I have seen in a while. I think I will check out the book.
  15. I watched it on You Tube but didn't like it. It seemed very sanitized / Disneyfided. Here, Elle is with her loving father who is trying to find a cure for her. I thought Elle was not the monster she was in the movie and we are clearly supposed to feel bad for her and her dad. The lost boy here just seems to have too loving a family to be enthralled by a vampire and also, his mom is an NYPD detective... which would seem to be a odd choice to be living next to a vampire who drinks blood every day. If I were Mark I would be moving out the moment I learned that. There is also a totally different story about a scientist looking for a cure. That frankly bored me and seemed very uninspired and cliche.
  16. Oh also, Teenage Dirtbag. It sounds and looks like it is going to be terrible but I thought it was pretty moving. It concerns two teenagers in high school. One the popular cheerleader with the middle class life... and one the teenage dirtbag from the abusive family on the wrong side of the tracks. They generally know each other for their entire life being in alphabetical order in school but one year a stray remark by the girl has the dirtbag take notice of her, it is a journey of confusion and romantic pain in high school and I think we can all relate to that. Scott Michael Foster is really excellent as someone in a lot of pain and confusion. The writer says this wasn't a real life story but it so much plays like one I can't believe her.
  17. I am dragon. It is a Russian Movie. So you may get subtitles. The dubbed version I think is free on You Tube. It is a crazy romantic movie. With a good story. Basically for years this village lived in terror of a dragon. They used to give the dragon a female sacrifice to keep the dragon happy for a generation. Finally a hunter killed the dragon. Years later the village is celebrating the marriage of a princess to the grandson of the person who slayed the dragon. The grandson decides to sing the song they used to use to summon the dragon as a tribute to his grandfather. Everyone thinks the dragon is dead... but... the dragon shows up and snatches the princess. And we go from there. Great music and great effects.
  18. This trailer ... wow....
  19. A couple of further thoughts on this The "diversity" in this movie was so strong I didn't even notice. But I did particularly like Phoenix and Bob. BTW did you know Bob in real life is Bill Pullman's kid? But Phoenix was Maverick's "wing man" and I enjoyed the diversity of having a "geek" in Bob. There should be diversity not just in physical attributes. I kind of particularly liked the second in command at Top Gun who seemed to secretly be rooting for Maverick the entire time. I thought it was interesting that Phoenix gave as good as she got but she wasn't cocky in an obnoxious way. I just don't think women are like that. I also enjoyed that she seemed to be platonic friends with Rooster. It was like she had been around for a while and everyone was cool with her. I just don't know the answer to this but why did some planes have no co pilot and some did? I gather it has something to do with targeting but why can't the pilot do that? The Darkstar part was edge of my seat, I think in large part due to the music which was excellent. The soundtrack was excellent with the exception of the no talent "Lady Gaga". Sorry, not sorry. I don't know anything about second generation pilots -- they never showed us anything about their lives. But I think that actually worked. Doing the math Rooster should be in his 40s... he probably should have a family. But I think it didn't matter to the plot. Often in a movie they will have the old grizzled teacher -- teaching -- and you always wonder why they don't put the old guy in the mission. Well, they did that here. And I loved it. Maverick should have been involved in the mission from the start. I think his involvement gave everyone else security and inspiration. I enjoyed that Maverick's love interest was age appropriate and was not Phoenix like some lesser movies might have tried. Top Gun has always been "Maverick" on this with Pete having an older woman love interest in the first one.
  20. Ha I just got back and I rally had to run past everyone to the bathroom. I feel like I was most taken aback by Tom Cruise / Maverick. It just made me feel like he and the character are so much more mature. It was very good.
  21. Yes I thought early on this was going to be amazing but they got bogged down in the ending. Now I feel like I know why they did that. I feel like for most of the movie Batman was essentially a detective like any other person and I feel like some studio guy said, hey we need to have a scene where we show off what he can do. But for me the final climax didn't do that particularly well. Batman didn't kick any arse or stop anything the Riddler did to Gotham. I knew going in the lesson was going to be that he had to be a symbol of hope but I didn't feel the ending conveyed that particularly well. If the citizens of Gotham or Selena had been inspired to fight the Riddler's minions based on Batman, and thus maybe showed a glimmer of hope that people themselves had been inspired to end the corruption, maybe .... but someone clutching him in the middle of a disaster... nope.. I also felt there were too many people in this move. The Penguin was totally unnecessary in this move and should have been just a cameo. More time should have been spent on Selena and Alfred. With the time they took with the ending bike ride I would have liked in some way for us to get the nod that Bruce now understood the good that his Bruce Wayne side could do as well... and seen some pay off to that, ie.. years of sitting in his mansion obsessing over vengeance was selfish... perhaps he could have helped people like the Riddler.. or at least be seen as someone trying to help, which could have been the symbol of hope.
  22. Ok I just saw this.. I know iI was late. I was completely spoiled.. saw 50% of the movie on the day clips were leaked to you tube. But the one thing that somehow didn't make it out to me was when Peter tells Dr. Strange of his plans to cast a spell where no one remembers him any longer... and Dr. Strange has this agast reaction basically saying "but then no one who loves you will remember you... we all won't...." And you realize that Dr. Strange includes himself as someone who loves the little scamp... That got me.
  23. I just saw this on an HBO preview. I didn't like it. Weirdly I thought it was opposite of all the reviews. I thought Meryl's daughter was just fine. But it was everyone else that was stilted and stiff. In fact I would say the dialog was horrible. With complete modern talk. Carrie C*** is an amazing actress but she was horrible here. She seemed to be yelling her lines as if she were in a play. Perhaps it is the massive set. Then, am I seriously supposed to get invested in Carrie's character obsessing on being liked? I mean that is it? That is the plot? Wow.. if there had been some background they explored as reason for a deep need to be part of the upper crust ok, but, am I seriously supposed to care about this "conflict". I decided not to sign up for HBO based on the first episode. Perhaps I will check in to see if it gets better.
  24. There is this part of supposed fan base that desperately wants to make Dexter into something he wasn't. Dexter was never a bad guy... and much of his bad acts were accidental. Self preservation is not selfishness. People have to learn that. Dexter the character did lots of good things and of course he wasn't doing those things for a noble purpose but he still was doing them. He was far more effective than the people at Miami Metro. I don't buy he would kill Logan for many reasons but also the fact that Logan was a cop. Dexter had tons of friend who were cops and for sure he knows how hard they would be coming after him after the death of a cop. It also was not necessary. Beyond the fact that most of Dexter's innocent kills have been accidents or questionable people... it is simply out of character for Dexter. I will also note how insane it is that he didn't lawyer up and later on, use Kurt's bodies as a bargaining chip. I love realistic cop dramas where there is zero lawyers in town. I suppose that objectively the creators of the show probably felt the need to make Dexter a bad guy. Simply because he is so popular. We know of a few people who have killed others inspired by Dexter and maybe we don't know of others. What is really psychopath / gaslighting behavior is for a show runner and star to tell the fan base they were going to do the ending right and then basically use the fanbase for their own purposes... cash grab, ending the character, etc. They didn't even try -- which is the rub. Michael C. Hall hasn't had much of a career outside of Dexter - I am guessing that will be even worse now.
  25. This show should have been 30 minutes long... we meet Jim Lindsay in Iron Lake, and in the end gets in a car accident... What was the point of the rest of it?
