  1. I’m speculating, at the very least, that Ed is going to be aged up, at least to teenage hood or maybe even older, whenever the character is introduced. And I could very well see the character being on the spectrum. I do think her character as presented in the anime, an odd child genius comic relief , might not translate that well to live action.
  2. On top of that, I can’t help but wonder where all the multiverse Dianes are, in the universes where Beth survived childhood. Seems like a few Dianes should’ve survived.
  3. Really good episode. Like the expansion of Big’s character from goofball comic relief to goofball with a good heart who is ultimately looking out for his community. Cheese is still a big sweetie. The Deer Lady was cool. Makes me wonder if Willie Jack’s uncle really does have dirty pics of her lol. I enjoy the small touches of magical realism/surrealism in the show.
  4. I Yeah, I enjoyed the sense of realism that the setting of the show has. Actually filming in Oklahoma instead of on a lot in Hollywood or Toronto really added something to the show. This show has a really great balance of humor and genuine heart. Cheese just might be my fav; his story with the old lady in the second episode was especially touching without being overdone. I really hope this show gets some awards notice next year.
  5. Yeah, her squeaky voice was an odd fit for big, brawny Teela. SMG also seemed to be lacking some of the natural voice acting talent of the rest of the cast, which didn’t help, but I rolled with it. Speaking of Teela’s brawn, I appreciated how jacked she (and really all of the main female characters) were. It’s nice to see warrior women who actually look like they can kick serious ass. I think Cersei Lynn is my fave so far lol. Funny that she’s been friendzoned by Skeletor for all these years. Yeah, it was pretty telling to me that a) He-Man wasn’t in the title of the show and b) a lot of the promo pics focused of the women characters. Personally I don’t get why people are up in arms about this; I get that He-Man was a nostalgic trip for many of us 80s/90s kids, but it wasn’t exactly a masterpiece back then. Shit, the recent Sheera updated series Netflix did was changed quite a bit from the original, and was probably 10x more “woke” then MoTU has been so far, and it was great. Waaaay better then the original. I’m okay with them not making a direct remake of the campy, fairly crappy original.
  6. I finished the series a few days ago. I appreciate how it presented a more realistic portrait of a working class, struggling family that wasn’t tv perfect. But man, while I appreciate flawed characters, the dad Benny was borderline unlikeable. However, at least the show was willing to have him called on his behavior and it not made light of, and the relationship between him and Regina wasn’t presented necessarily as healthy. Regina was awesome, though, flaws and all. Really liked her, Bernard and Benny’s other young son. Benny and Regina’s oldest daughter was a bit of a typical bratty young teen, but again I appreciated that she acted like a brat teen and not some perfect angel, and that she didn’t always get away with her behavior all the time. Overall I enjoyed the show and hope it gets a second season, even if the cliffhanger at the end was a bit much.
  7. Funny, I thought I heard that David Sutcliffe was retiring from acting, or at least stepping back from it. Guess not lol.
  8. My read on Kate from the book was that she mostly considered “plain” because she didn’t match the standard of beauty of the time (dark hair and eyes, tall, full lips), compared to her sister, who was the refined blond beauty archetype as well as graceful. So I don’t have have really have a problem striking actress playing her.
  9. I mean, I definitely can agree that Jenelle’s upbringing wasn’t the best, but I would say that while Barb is by no means a healthy individual, emotionally or mentally speaking, she doesn’t seem to lack emotions and she doesn’t appear to have been a complete monster of a mother. Hell, she was an abused woman herself, who pulled herself out of it and seemingly worked minimum wage jobs to take care of her family. And pretty well, because when we met Jenelle in 16&P she appeared well taken care of. So Jenelle lacking those emotions and empathy seems to be on a deeper level to me. Personally, I’m not without compassion towards people at all, but after a while it’s hard to feel compassion through all the BS you see and hear. It’s hard to sustain compassion when all you really see is selfishness, manipulation, martyrdom and a lack of responsibility. And at some point, Jenelle has to take responsibility for her own failings. Yeah, Barb was lacking as a mother and her dad was a violent wife beater, but she’s an adult, and had/has the resources to improve her mental health.
  10. I hate to be a contrarian asshole, but honestly, out of all of the girls, Jenelle has always struck me as the most cold and lacking, as far as emotions and basic humanity goes. Kail is a stone cold bitch a lot of the times, Chelsea is a bit spoiled and dim, and Leah is dumb as a box of rocks, but they all, even Kail, have some sort of emotions and ability to feel. Honestly, I’ve always thought that Jenelle is pretty close to being a psychopath, in the sense she doesn’t experience more the very shallow emotions, seems to lack empathy and is extremely selfish. So while I can see her upbringing did her no favors, I’m not sure if she would’ve been that much different if her childhood had been different.
  11. I’m cool with Enrique being poly and positive representations of polyamory/non monogamy are great, but I’m tired of that trite line about, “People aren’t hard-wired to be monogamous,” that gets thrown around. Yes, some people people aren’t hard-wired for monogamy, but plenty of people are. And cheating does not mean the cheater is non-monogamous usually, it is typically a character flaw or situational thing. It was a pretty insensitive line to throw at the brain tumor patient’s husband IMO.
  12. I see the dumbass realized real quick how expensive the mortgage and upkeep is on a huge house like that. Doubt she’ll unload it anytime soon.
  13. All I can think of, is how can these idiots afford a three story McMansion now that they aren’t going to get their six figure paychecks anymore? They better hope that the tacky deer print isn’t going to bring down the house's resale value.
  14. Late to the party, but I will say, it is somewhat surprising that Chelsea and Cole have quit TM2. Especially giving the shape the world is in currently and C&C are allergic to work. I agree with other posters in that they won't be able to live off of TM2 saving for an extended period time, especially not with having four kids, a huge new house, a petting zoo and with neither of them being frugal or thrifty. I also think that they might be holding out for their own show, if they aren't already in talks for one currently. I could see them getting something on CMT or some similar country/Hallmarky channel. They could play up there country strong, good ol' Christian Midwesterner vibe. It might at least help them sell some crap from their new Aubree line lol.
  15. I don’t mind that Gina maybe doesn’t know about the full situation and all (though, as former military, I know it’s hard, but not impossible for service members to keep up with their families while deployed) it just would’ve been nice for the show to give us a line or some acknowledgement of Gina. They made it seem like DJ is a single father with no other parent anywhere. It just seemed weird to me.
  16. Having watched the episode, all I’m wondering is where the hell is Gina in all of this? I find it hard to believe, even if she isn’t currently at home, that she wouldn’t have a problem with Mary being left up to her own devices while DJ works. Not to mention Gina herself should have family nearby, being a Lanford native. Has Gina basically gone the way of Andy and Jerry? They’ve really dropped the ball on DJ’s storyline and family.
  17. Dean's change from a somewhat sophisticated city slicker to a country bumpkin was just another example of ASP and the writers lack of character/story continuity. They put the plot over character development often. Well, at least he faired somewhat better in the revival. I wish his original storyline on the show had ended with him and Rory staying broken up, with them mending fences right before they graduated and Dean living town , without a pointless teen marriage.
  18. I mean, I'm very sympathetic to people suffering from anxiety and panic attacks; I'm a life long suffer myself. I've had anxiety and panic attacks so bad I was unable to leave my house for days at a time. But ya' know what? I got meds and went on with my life. I've held jobs, went to school and had my family. So it's hard to sympathize with Chelsea, who has all the time and resources in the world to deal with her shit and get it under control. Personally, I think the major source of Chelsea's anxiety is mostly being in the public eye, but that's on her; she could've quit TM2 years ago, if she and Cole had been willing to live more modestly and, a very revolutionary idea her, get jobs. Who I really feel for are the kids. I'm sure they, especially Aubree, are feeling the effects of being in the public eye and it's effecting their mental states, and the poor kids have no choice in the matter.
  19. It would have to be some fiercely crippling anxiety that doesn't respond to treatment, for her to get SSD. I have had anxiety so bad I couldn't leave my house for days, but medication made it manageable. It's not all that easy to get SSD, even if you have a real, debilitating condition. You often have to try for years to get it. Plus Social Security isn't nearly enough money for Chelsea's champaigne tastes.
  20. I agree. I appreciate that the show didn't frame it as the big, mean, macho man trying to force the strong, independent woman to become barefoot and pregnant. I do feel for both of them, but I do think Richard had some good points about Sutton's flightiness and how she can be self-centered. It's nice to see a main character get called out on their shit without the other person being made out to be a complete asshole. I also think Sutton could be shying away from motherhood because of her own shitty mom. Therapy might not be a bad idea for her. Maybe she realize she actually wants to be a mom, maybe it'll cement why she doesn't want to be a mom, but girl could really use it, either way.
  21. It's been cancelled. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/amp/live-feed/harlots-canceled-at-hulu-1297258 Bummer, but last season wrapped up well, at least.
  22. I knew Keiko was closer to Lauren's age, but 34?! That would've made her older then Lauren. I thought she was in her late 20s at the beginning of the show.
  23. I mean, at the end of the day, acting is just another job, if a very unique one by average standards. They are basically playing pretend for however many hours a day. For instance, there's Keiko and Alexis-they made pretty convincing on screen friends, but they really aren't close in real life, going off what I've noticed over the years. Actually, I don't know if Alexis is particularly close to anyone from GG, except maybe Lauren and Kelly, and even then I don't think they hang out that much. I figure actors are just like any other co-workers, sometimes they form deep friendships, and sometimes it's just a professional relationship. The impression I've gotten of both Scott and Lauren from limited sources over the years is they both have fairly "big" personalities. I can see them clashing, or at least not melding well together, outside of the set. I could see both of them being potentially difficult people (and I've heard unfounded rumors about both of them in that potential asshole vein). Could be why Scott is so profuse in his praise of Lauren and why Lauren is lukewarm.
  24. How about the whole episode where the family was discussing DJ's "self-love" habits lol? Plus they did joke about sex a lot with each other.
