  1. Do we know if the engineer Brendan is based on a real person? I've been taking a deep dive into the Theranos scandal and I cannot get enough of it. Looking forward to the next episode! This show is great.
  2. Quick thoughts: Watched the movie on Disney+ and really, really enjoyed it. I have watched most of the MCU movies and all of the Disney+ streaming shows, and I'm embarrassed to say I never heard of Red Guardian or Yelena. But I really liked those characters in Black Widow and look forward to seeing more of them in other features. Black Widow/Natasha was always one of my favorite MCU characters. I'm still bothered by the fact that she's dead, LOL. I know there were other issues at play that prevented a Black Widow movie from coming out years ago but it's a real shame a movie about Black Widow didn't come prior to Infinity War. Seems like a lost opportunity that this movie didn't quite make up for.
  3. I watched Luke Cage and have mixed feelings. I loved the first half of season one, and that was mainly due to Mahershala Ali and what he did with the role he played (the name escapes me). Once his character left the show, the second half of season one was disappointing. Alfre Woodard's Mariah was an emotional mess and I couldn't figure out if she was to be pitied or feared (and I hated her pseudo-love interest). And the villain they introduced to replace Mahershala Ali was too cartoonish for the otherwise grounded Luke Cage. Mahershala Ali made that show for me. Bring on Blade! Then came season 2. I never finished season 2. Something was very off with season 2 and I just gave up on the show. I tried to watch Dare Devil and just couldn't get into it. I never even bothered with Iron Fist. I had always intended to watch Jessica Jones but never got around to it. I suppose it's pointless now.
  4. I've seen both Hulk movies (Eric Bana and Edward Norton) and both left me cold. IMO you aren't missing anything. I consider myself a huge MCU fan and I can't get into the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Not sure what my issue is
  5. I get that those inside the hex are unable to escape their television show counterparts unless they are "zapped" by Vision (Norm and Darcy). Yet when Monica was inside the hex (the first time) she was able to recall Pietro getting killed by Ultron? Does this happen to have anything to do with Monica in particular (her cells being generated, thus setting up a future storyline). I just don't see all of the Westview residents being prone to superpowers when they presumably leave the hex.
  6. I love this show (truly, trying to get my brother to watch it) but I did not love this episode. I'm frustrated. Maybe if I read the books I would have a different feeling about this series. My jumbled thoughts: I had to eyeroll Mrs. Coulter, yet again besting a foe. These witches seem ineffective. All this buildup of Will finding his father and we get a 5-minute reunion that's cut short. Mrs. Coulter kidnapping Lyra in a suitcase. Lee Scoresby's death was the only event that affected me. The return of Asriel left me indifferent. I will of course watch Season 3 but I figure it'll be another year before the show returns.
  7. That actually makes a lot more sense! She's now able to finally let go. I hadn't thought of it that way.
  8. Wonder Woman 3 being fast-tracked: ‘Wonder Woman 3’ Is Happening; Patty Jenkins & Gal Gadot Returning – Deadline ETA: Apparently I forgot how to post a link.
  9. I didn't like this movie. Many people have commented on things I agree with. I will add that for me, I disliked that once again I had to see Diana and Steve part ways. It was repetitive and unnecessary since a similar scene (yet under different circumstances) occurred in the first movie. I also had a visceral reaction to Diana saying (in 1984) that the world "is already a beautiful place." I was only 9 in 1984 but looking back things weren't that beautiful in the US or the world. I wish that line could have been re-worded altogether so that Diana could make her point.
  10. I don't have much commentary to add that differs from what others have said. I'm enjoying reading these comments. I thought the finale was incredible and the ending was perfect. Grogu had to leave with a Jedi, and what better Jedi to leave with than Luke? Although as I was watching the scene when the Jedi entered, I thought for a moment it was Ezra. But I knew it was Luke the minute I saw the black glove. I don't believe this is the end of Grogu on this series. I love that little guy and in Season 1 he was the hook for me getting into this show. But I'm looking forward to getting deeper into the mythos of Mandalore and hope we see more Djin's interactions with Bo-Katan, as well as the armorer and other members of The Watch. I half-expect Grogu to return a little older, a bit taller and able to talk. Grade-school aged or teenager Grogu?? They kept Moff Gideon alive for a reason. Thrawn perhaps? Lastly, the MUSIC/SCORE gave me all the feels. This series gave me a feeling that the prequels and the sequels didn't do for me.
  11. I kept waiting for Meg to acknowledge her child with Angus, and then realized they conveniently left that out. This Meg exhausted me. At times I pitied her, other times I found her annoying and I blamed her for her own misfortune. I'm not sure how accurate this portrayal of Meg was to the real Queen Margaret, but from what I read she had poor taste in men.
  12. I read an interview the producers gave last year about the riots in England targeting foreigners and how they were "looking forward" to bringing that story to life. I was actually dreading this episode, but heavily relieved Oveido and Lina survived!
  13. I'm hoping Starz doesn't do a retread of The Other Boleyn Girl. There were so many *extreme* historical inaccuracies in that movie. I read that Starz is coming out with a TV series on the early/teenage years of Elizabeth I that appears to have nothing to do with any of the Phillipa Gregory books. Thru that series we may get to see Catherine Parr. I don't know if this series means the end of the Phillipa Gregory adaptations. I hope not. They are trashy, inaccurate but addictive. I would like to see the adaptation on Lady Jane Grey and the teenage and later years of Mary I.
  14. Thomas More blends in with another dark-haired courtier for me. I'm only reminded that its Thomas More during his scenes with Maggie. I only remember that Wolsey wears the hat/cap covering his ears. I never know if Wolsey was really eeeeevil or not. I liked the Sam Neill version of Wolsey from The Tudors and I *think* we were supposed to dislike him. I often think the guy with the eye patch is Charles Brandon (based on how friendly he is with Henry), and then I remind myself that is Stafford. I then I remember The Tudors and that Stafford was very different.
  15. I very recently, by chance, came upon a documentary on YouTube about Queen Margaret so the developments in her story that aired on Sunday were not surprising. I felt so bad for her but also felt she was being incredibly stupid. But maybe the Spanish Princess version of Margaret was being stupid, and the real Queen Margaret was just . . . misguided??? I still can't believe that's the young child actress from the Narnia movies! I loathed Katherine blaming Lina for repeating rumors about Henry (despite Katherine's insistence that she repeat them to her). There were so many layers to that scene and it made my blood boil! And what's with the pseudo-attraction/romanticism that's being applied to Maggie Pole and Thomas More??? Are the Phillipa Gregory books the Spanish Princess is based on the Constant Princess, The Kingmaker's Curse and 3 Sisters, 3 Queens?
  16. Ah! Thanks for that. I googled starling murmurations and I'm fascinated!
  17. I loved the original Rebecca and watched this version with an open mind, despite my misgivings about Lily James and . . . meh. It's impossible for any modern movie compete with a Hitchcock classic. I will try not to compare them save for 1 critique. On its own, this movie was lackluster. Maybe it needed a stronger/bolder director? This movie just seemed really small. And it lacked that gothic feeling. Manderly, I feel, was it's own character in the original version. For this Netflix movie, Manderly lacked presence. I found no faults with the actors. Lily James, despite my initial misgivings, was fine. And Armie Hammer didn't bother me (I don't think I've ever seen any of his movies). Kristin Scott Thomas was the clear standout (but her Mrs. Danvers lacked a bit of bite and I seemed to pity her. I loathed the OG Mrs. Danvers!) And I really liked Ann Dowd. The actor who played Jack Fevell seemed so familiar I had to google him. Knock me over with a feather that he was in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies! And Diaval from Maleficent! One thing I didn't understand was the swarm of bees (or whatever) that seemed to follow Mrs. DeWinter II. I hope TMC airs the original Rebecca because I really want to see that version again to cleanse my palette.

    Hamilton (2020)

Full Disclosure: I generally don't like musicals but watched Hamilton because I have Disney+ and was curious with regard to the hype. I assumed Hamilton had spoken dialogue interspersed with singing. After the 2nd song I realized there'd be no spoken dialogue and I got scared. While I don't generally don't like musicals, there are 3 exceptions (The Wizard of Oz, Chicago and Dream Girls). To add, these 3 musicals are movie adaptations. I have not seen any of them "live" on stage. After watching Hamilton I was a bit indifferent towards it but could appreciate how well done it was and was glad I saw it. HOWEVER, the next day I couldn't get the music out of my head. I found myself going on YouTube and listening to the songs with a new curiosity and quickly found favorites. Then I started to watch reaction videos on YouTube. I found myself watching Hamilton again and kept finding new things to appreciate. It's been 1 week since I saw Hamilton on Disney+ and I'm a bit obsessed with it. I had a delayed reaction but my God, this was a great piece of work and can only imagine what it'd be like to see it live on Broadway with the original cast. And I have a crush on Daveed Diggs. Lordy . . .
  20. I suspect she found it easier to accept bio dad (Craig) because (1) she didn't have a father already in the picture (not sure what happened between her and stepdad once Gloria and 2nd hubby separated/divorced) and (2) perhaps Craig gave her the space/time she needed to adjust in accepting her biological family. I feel for Shanara, and I can't imagine the pain she's living, and think Gloria's actions are unforgivable, but I think Shanara's approach towards Kamiyah/Alexis was a bit aggressive. I'm not sure if they are on speaking terms at the present. Sad. But it's easy to understand her anger. I saw the "Behind the Headlines" show following this movie and Craig and Kamiyah/Alexis were on the show, but Shanara declined to appear. Kamiyah/Alexis also has established a relationship with her paternal half-siblings.
  21. Were the scenes of the supporters/protestors outside the courthouse based on real events? Because one of the signs someone was holding up (in support of Gloria) said something to the effect that "bio mom was too young to have a baby." Seeing that sign took me out of the movie and made me question humanity.
  22. Sounds like there is a thin line between campaigning and bribing for votes. I don't understand why nominees are allowed to campaign. I get that as a nominee you want the voting body to see your work, but campaign tactics can get real tacky real quick.
  23. I too grew up with the original trilogy and LOVED it! Saw the prequels and didn't like them very much. I liked The Force Awakens, perhaps more than most people, and was disillusioned with The Last Jedi. Have not seen Rise of Skywalker because I did not enjoy Last Jedi. I saw Rogue One and found it serviceable, though my opinion seems to be in the minority. None of the characters in that movie IMO were memorable and the best scene in that whole movie was Darth Vader showing everyone who is boss, and of course, for me, seeing Princess Leia (albeit CGI Leia). Rogue One came out after Carrie Fisher died. As a girl who grew up in the 80's and 90's, Princess Leia was my all-time favorite heroine. I had no plans to see The Mandalorian until my brother encouraged me to do so. His thoughts on the whole Stars Wars franchise mirrors mine, and he said The Mandalorian was like "the old Star Wars." I watched it after the first 4 episodes had already streamed, and I quickly binged watch it. He was right! The Mandalorian reminded me of why I love the original Star Wars. And since I've became a fan of Mandalorian, I started to watch Star Wars Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars Resistance (this one feels like a kiddie-cartoon and I'm not feeling it, but I will try to finish the first season). I have not seen Solo and I don't know if I will. I've heard it was trash and also heard it was a lot of fun, LOL! I also went back and watched Attack of the Clones (which I consider the worst Star Wars movie ever) and Revenge of the Sith. Sith still holds up well considering the issues I have with the script, and oddly, Attack of the Clones was a wee bit better than I remembered, though it was not a good movie. I have tried to watch Phantom Menace but I can't stomach Jar Jar. Lord have mercy. Maybe he won't bug me anymore this time around 🙂 Star Wars Clone Wars takes place after Attack of the Clones and before Revenge of the Sith. I had to google how long the Clone Wars lasted, and internet said 3 years.
  24. Yikes at CATS! Not surprised at the opening US numbers for Rise of Skywalker. I had a feeling poor word-of-mouth was going to result in lower numbers than what was originally predicted ($190 million), though some media outlets are saying ROS' numbers were impacted by the final weekend for Christmas shopping.
  25. I'm almost afraid to ask this, but what is Finn doing in this movie?
