The Cage is supposed to be set in 2254 and season 1 of SNW in 2259. Yet Spock is smiling in the cage, but this season they acted like that was a new thing he had never done before. So maybe the cage is actually still upcoming or was supposed to take place during this season?

No, we’ve already seen Talos IV on Disco.  Pike also got a psychic visit from Vina.

I think there’s probably some question about how much of “The Cage” is actually canon to SNW.  Clearly, the parts that were reused in “The Menagerie” were, but I can’t remember if Spock grinning at the singing plants was included in the latter.

I know I’m in the minority, but as much as I like the canon, I’m okay with them not being hidebound by it, because I do ultimately find it limiting.  As long as what they’re doing that contradicts it is interesting, I can dig it.  And Ethan Peck has really done great with this.

Pity, I like the BNW costume, much more than the red and yellow Jessica Drew wears. Anyway, thanks!

Weirdly, the set pics I’ve seen of Dakota Johnson have her wearing a similar costume to the one Julia wore during her period as Madame Web.

They can't extend much more story out of this series because we are closing in on Pike's fate.

In universe, we’re still six or seven years out from the accident.  Even if they keep with the 1 season = 1 year that prior shows had done, they’ve got plenty of time to fill.

I'm still not clear on why Uhura had to manually forward everybody's emails.

Spock was using so much computer power investigating the fold, there wasn't enough left over to automatically route messages to their intended recipients.

Kind of standard Trek plot device where technology always works except when the plot demands that it doesn't.

I was out at a young age, but I still missed out on a lot of teen stuff, because it just wasn't safe, I didn't have other kids my age to date, etc. I think this is probably why I still watch shows about teenagers, even though I'm in my late 50s.

I was 17, but I was painfully shy and basically hid from the world (and with a big helping of body dysmorphia).  I had a long-term relationship, but I didn't truly come out of my shell until I was in my late 30s.

And now, I watch shows like this in part because I know what it would have meant to me to have something like this when I was 15 (my option was only Ricky on My So-Called Life), and partly because I know my eyeballs that are attached to discretionary income help keep it around for today's 15-year-olds.

  6. This hasn't been the best summer for me health-wise (ironically, still better than last summer), so I missed this in the theater and was waiting for D+.

Chosen Family stories are my personal Kryptonite, but even so, I was not expecting to be hit as deeply as this did.  I teared up probably three or four times.  Baby Rocket ("Hurts!") freaking broke me.

I can't say this is my favorite of the three (I'm contrarian and prefer Volume 2 the best) but this had a much stronger finish that I would have thought was possible.

    It's been a good ride.

AFAIK, the next season of Lower Decks was already completed before the strikes.  At this point, they wouldn't have dropped the trailer if they weren't going to be able to finish it.

Also, I don’t believe animated series are currently struck.  Like soap operas, they’re under a different contract.

But it also could be that he has no idea what Christine looks like at the time of this episode and that they only start dating a year or more into the fellowship.

She (or possibly M’Benga) did say that the fellowship is for 3 months.

  9. Given the combination of the underwhelming performances of so many movies this summer, as well as the effects of the strikes, I'm wondering if we might finally start to see a course correction in Hollywood.  It's been a general trend for at least the last 60 years or so that the studio system breaks down every twenty years--which gave us New Hollywood in the late 60s and 70s, which lasted until about Star Wars, and then gave us the indie boom of the mid-to-late-90s.  We're overdue for an implosion.

I was thinking that too much power was concentrated in too few hands for it to really happen again, but pandemic + strikes + big box office misfires may have tipped the scales.  I can't want to see what happens.
