  1. Once again, Bev's bleeped out cursing (which even made it into the show's title) is great for laughs. It's a great comic relief moment when a character like hers or Leslie Knope, who is always so earnest, succumbs.
  2. I'm guessing you're probably right, but, I hope not. Cast bloat is still the biggest issue facing the show. The net decrease from last seasons already too big cast was 3 and with Leslie Jones and Mike O'brien making cameos up from the writing room on occasion. There's still a lot of performers to try and identify with. Lorne is doing the current cast, especially the featured players, a disservice by trotting out the old cast to do old sketches. Watching Late Night last week it looks like Fred has been in Portland all week wrapping up shooting on the new Portlandia series. So hopefully he stays away. I mean is anyone really looking forward to a new "Californians"?
  3. If I were the mechanic... I'd drop Andre right away. You need the viewer to care about the core cast, having too many fringe characters early on is just going to bog it down. Keep Martin Short and Elliot Gould in minor supporting roles. I think the show needs them for the veteran acting presence with so many inexperienced talent. Let them carry and support the main characters though, not over power...I'm looking at you Martin. Keep Nasim's dating stories to a minimum. Right now she has an, 'all I care about is dating" vibe. Give her some of the real struggles of a real woman.
  4. I enjoyed the episode, but still could have done without the Andy stuff. At least they were talking about feelings and thoughts like adults until they were fighting over who is more of a heartbreaker. Mitchell watching his dancing in the dark was fantastic. I shudder to think of what I look like when I dance.
  5. I loved that the home video footage of Adam and Barry's "Garage Band" appeared to be in somebody's bedroom, and given the space, I'm guessing it was Mom and Dad's. Very hard core!
  6. I could see them doing a bit on weekend Update where they throw to Stefon, who doesn't show up, because he's sleeping on Seth's desk next door.
  7. The show continues to rise in my opinion. Ever since Episode 14 of Season 1, which was the first show after receiving the full season order. Things seemed more relaxed and the character development really took off. "The Party" still remains my favourite for having so many quotable lines, "I'll take your eight dollar-est bottle of wine" "I see myself as the Paris of people" "Needle him a sweater. Even when you're angry, you're hilarious." "Full Boyle" may be my least favorite, since there was no restraint on Boyle even in his self aware state. He's the most frustrating character for me, and his whole arc with Marilu Henner was a little over the top. I get that flies in direct opposition of my comment that the show got better in the second half, so make of that what you will. I love the whole show.
  8. I liked her more casual style at Hydra, it was definitely noticeable when compared against HeadSimmons' Blouse Sweater combination in the same episode.
  9. Yes, "let me explain and redeem myself" ward is far less interesting than purely evil Ward. Even the I'm sorry face he made when he pushed Fitz and Simmons into the ocean was weak. Skye looked deadly during the sniper scenes with her hood pulled up and cool and calm demeanor. Definitely May's protege. And damn if I didn't enjoy May's "You and I are..." response to Hunter's "Are we even?" The Coulson speeches are slightly less sanctimonious this Season, which is a good trend. And I like him running things from an oversight position.
  10. Falconi had him beat up in the previous episode during his visit to remind her that he was in charge. He asked her if she'd taken a lover, she replied that was keeping a boy around for exercise, which was the busboy/waiter.
  11. Kind's ability to pull off drama is enjoyable it's usually pretty lighthearted. I liked him as the asshole reporter on the half season of Golden Boy. He was also part of the great ensemble that was The Station Agent years ago. Another great alumni of the Second City.
  12. I don't know about Adam Goldberg's desire to address how his family approached their faith, if at all, but they've been pretty diligent about keeping it at arms length. The Christmas/Holiday episode (well, the show that aired at that time of year, when many other shows have a holiday themed show) only dealt with the talent show. Maybe the family didn't really practice the faith, or maybe he just wanted a show that focused on the 80s-Americana aspect of his life. The show appears to be equal parts love letters to both. I would rather enjoy if they don't talk about it at all, then out of the blue, there's a show that centers on Adam's Bar Mitzvah next season.
  13. I thought Sheldon addressed the issue of the perceived child-ness of Comic Books and their other pursuits in the Time Machine episode, early in the show's run when he stated that Penny would have had her own Childish Hobbies. I'm sure the girls have to varying extents enjoyed the Harry Potter/Twilight/Hunger Games books, not to mention when they all got Princess Makeovers at Disneyland. Those are definitely mediums for children that adults take up as a casual getaway. These girls may not be as passionate about such pursuits, but when is having a passion about a harmless activity bad?
  14. ABC's strength has been the family based programming for a while. It's a little weird that it took them so long to decide to consolidate all of that instead of spreading it out, and trying to leverage new shows with the established stuff when there wasn't a parallel. Even Black-ish appears to be doing well, which I wouldn't have expected, but it plays well on this Wednesday Night line-up. Not that I was a huge Trophy Wife fan, but it probably would have survived in the 9:30 slot in this line-up.
  15. While Amy's complete need to impress Holt is obvious, the show is showing that Jake posses the same desire to be recognized by Holt, but does it in the same "pull the pigtails" method he took to his approach with Amy. Being a cop appears to be the one thing he's good at, and being recognized for that from Holt seems important to him.
  16. Of course he had to order a tuna FISH sandwhich from the lunch truck. He loves sandwiches as much as fish.
  17. I like that they've shown Barbara as someone with her own personality and not just "concerned Detective's Wife" which she's been reduced to in many roles. She's glamorous and ambitious, though she does need to get out of the apartment. Interesting look too. A younger Missi Pyle.
  18. I agree that she'll do very well in limited doeses. I like the idea of having a street savvy young character who see's a lot of things to serve as Gordon's CI. I may need to start referring to her as Bubbles.
  19. For what it's worth, I didn't find myself actively groaning at this episode. The guys were making a mature decision and the girls expressed their doubts (or lack thereof) through their own avenues. Though overall quality is down (a product of age) I enjoyed the more mature storyline.
  20. Yup, Disney made a good play with Once Upon at Time by putting a Frozen plot into this season, it's starting off strong, it will be interesting to see if it has the legs. Once Upon a Time also benefits in that it's not going to draw the same time of crowd as football. With respect to this episode's rating (and Fox Sunday Night on the whole) I wonder how much is driven by having a lead in from the late afternoon game. Fox and CBS trade weeks where they get to air two games, last week was Fox's week, this week was CBS's. Most often if the network only has one show it shows the 1:00pm Eastern Game to most markets, meaning they don't get the same lead in, in theory. I switched from last night's game to watch B99 because I was footballed out for the weekend and needed my laughs. I'll see how long that stays true.
  21. I'd heard Oslo had pulled out, but I didn't know China and Kazakhstan were the only remaining bidders. Ugh, the thought of three straight Asian time zoned Winter Olympics just seems so drab. So many early mornings-late nights!
  22. This episode really felt like a throwback to me. It seemed pretty obvious that Sarah had a big hand in the writing. The sketches just worked as things that didn't feel safe, but risks that people wanted to take. I was glad to not see Girlfriends Talk Show or Porn Stars, but just some bits that revolved around a premise and not overdone characters. The execution on the Joan Rivers Sketch unfortunately fell flat being the first after the monologue. Sarah cites Joan as a lot of inspiration for her, so this was as much her tribute as anything. I liked the concept, but was bummed with how it turned out. I may be one of the few, but I actually quite liked the Riverboat sketch. Last year that skit would have been 90 seconds longer and painful. This year, they made the joke got in-got out and tied it off with Keenan's character. Something different that I could have imagined Maya, Ana, and Cheri doing. Again a throwback! Very glad to see O'brien in the Whites skit. Those were his forte, and he can keep doing them as far as I'm concerned.
  23. I hope the move to Sunday Night plays out rating-wise. For my money this is one of the top network comedies out there right now. This episode only further solidified that. Everyone seems to be growing based on development. Rosa gave a damn about her friend, and the situation wasn't awkward. Terry openly stated that he didn't believe Jake and he were more than work friends, but was willing to give it a shot, Jake embraced responsibility, Amy stood up to Holt, and Gina was a voice of reason without ulterior motives. The comedy comes because the foundation is so key.
  24. Maybe it was just me getting numb to it, but I thought the show got better as it progressed. The first 10 minutes or so was bascially a "Tonight Show style" set-up for his stand up. I think the parallels drawn to Spun Out are apt. That show was pretty uncomfortable early on as nearly everyone was new to the game, but it did find it's feet. Overall the show just felt...forced. Yeah, I think that's a good word. It's a pilot, and I like the cast so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt, but I really hope everyone settles in. John needs to relax. Nasim and Martin don't have to overact quite so much. I hope the drug dealer character gets canned. And then I think you've got the makings of a sitcom.
  25. Wow, the cast was really phoning it in there. Not that the writing gave them much to work with. Getting everyone involved with the first pitch (Like with Sheldon and his fear of public speaking) would have made for a more interesting, tighter episode than bantering between that story and more Ross/Rachel, err... Leonard/Penny drama.
