All I get in my area are endless Fixer Upper marathons. Like, four days a week it's Fixer Upper. Since I abhor Chip Whatshisname and want to Elvis my TV every time they show that promo featuring his idiotic cackle right at the beginning, I'm OK with just about any show that is NOT Fixer Upper.

That is why I only watch HH on DVR. I fast forward through the commercials. That cackle of Chimpster's reminds me of the nasty witch in Wizard of Oz.

I’m glad I wasn’t the only person thinking, “Why don’t you just teach the kids not to run in the house?”  Besides, her definition of pass-through was a kitchen with two entrances.  Isn’t that, like, 99.9% of all kitchens, ever?  If she’s this bad at discipline, her kids are going to end up in public school as homeschool failures.

Also, I get wanting all the smart home “toys”, but isn’t easier to choose and install exactly what you want rather than what some builder chose?

All in all, they were a weird couple.

An oddball couple for sure. The kids were bratty as a result of poor parenting. If they'd been disciplined the first time they ran through the house it would have solved the problem. The mom seemed to pay more attention to her chickens than her children.

I thought that as well about his smart house features. Since they had the house built he could have had it wired for all his techie gear. But, but... the budget! I guess he was too cheap to do that.

The honey oak was much easier on the eyes than the black cabinets and the busy floor tile. And the wife claimed the kitchen looked “lighter and brighter” after the reno. In what universe is black “light and bright?”

She was such a bitch with her badda-bing and badda-boom dislike for honey oak. At the end of the reno when they were standing in front of the staircase with the foyer behind them there was a chest near the front door that looked like (wait for it!) honey oak.

I had a good laugh at the husband installing those peel-and-stick tiles on the bathroom floor. The stuff he was using was so thin it looked like contact paper.

    Baltimore to Coronado, Panama

He said something funny. He said he never would have imagined that scenery could cost them a bedroom. I'm glad they didn't go for the house off the beaten path and stuck to condo living on the beach. She allowed HHI to film her in her bathing suit, which I gotta admire her for.

Maybe it's just coincidence. Or maybe it's the geography of Panama, being narrow with mountains and lying between two oceans. I rarely see footage of that place with blue skies and sunshine; it's always overcast. Quite the opposite of what you see up north in Puerto Vallarta.

It must have been coincidence. I've been to Panama a couple times and the sun was shining a lot.

I have lots of pictures and art on my walls too.  I should have been a bit more specific.  Not a fan of the gallery wall of photos.  The thought of keeping them all straight is very daunting to me. Plus, my husband is a bit of a minimalist and always asks what is wrong with a nice clean wall. ;)

It was a happy day for me when I discovered the level on my iPhone. I can't stand crooked pictures.

I like the renovations (or restorations), but I am not so much a fan of some of Erin's decorating choices.  Too much clutter and too many pictures on the wall. I have found that as I get older I am less fond of clutter. The thought of having to dust all that stuff is just too off-putting for me.

I don't mind the pictures on the walls. My home has pictures everywhere there is room for them. I'm sad that we've nearly run out of places to hang even more.

Clutter? I've got some of that as well, but I love my 'stuff' that has been collected over the past 50 years. I consider my clutter to be treasures.

  7. I love my black smooth top Bosch cook top. I got their cleaner that makes it simple to remove anything that gets "baked" on while cooking (such as spills). Will look for Cerama Bryte for cleaning in the future--the Bosch cleaner is pretty expensive.

Even though I have placed a large wood cutting board adjacent to the cook top, my husband tends to use the cook top as a prep area when making sandwiches and leaves greasy spots on it so I'm washing it every day when I wipe down counter tops after dinner.

To take a pictures of the tackiness to spread around the Internet, no doubt. I've stated that her designs remind me of old Wild West bordellos, as depicted in old TV shows and movies. Or they're the kind of places the characters in "My Name Is Earl" would find "classy".

Even the bordellos in Alaska, such as Dolly's Place in Ketchikan, were classier.

Fl ep:  He looked about 20 years older than her...not that it matters, just an observation.  I LOVED the 3rd house!  It had EVERTHING they wanted.  EVERYTHING!  The only downside was it was $10k over budget.  So of course, they took the 2nd house which had NOTHING on their checklist except it came in $25k under budget.  I have a feeling they are going to spend way more than $35k to fix it up.  Just to put in the circular driveway would probably cost them at least $15k..

Didn't the FL husband say he's a concrete contractor? The thing that annoyed me (and will annoy his neighbors) is that he plans to park a relatively good sized boat where it's an eyesore, visible for all to see. He'd be better off keeping it at a boat storage facility or in-and-out marina near where he typically launches it.

When FL husband rattled off the ages of his kids I thought his new wife wasn't much older than his oldest child.

You're correct, CruiseDiva, they mentioned months ago that the design series was filmed simultaneously with S5.  IIRC, they indicated that all S5 participants paid $$$ to have their entire homes done.  So, it's in the can, 100% and ChipJo are off to their other projects / network, etc.

Uh, don't know how interesting some of these homeowners would be.  Some I'd rather not see, again.  (Sorry, folks!)

Example:  the couple with the 400K reno?  The mom following her daughters to Baylor.  They were nice but ...  The ex-bachelor who runs the FixUpp van tour?  (No thanks, lol.)

Now that I think about it, you're right.

I just watched an episode on my DVR with Chimp & JoJo looking back on previous seasons' episodes and she talked about her "eclectic" style. At that point, I deleted it. No way is her shabby chic decor eclectic. I don't think she even knows what that means.

Seeing the two of them bark at one another and jump out from behind doors to scare each other was pretty boring.

I still have builder grade fake oak cabinets in my townhouse. I've been there almost 20 years. This is why I watch HH Restoration. I need to vent. LOL!!!

My kitchen oak cabinets and family room birch cabinets were built in place 30 years ago and I wouldn't trade them for anything. It doesn't hurt that the dining table and antique cabinets in my kitchen's breakfast area are oak and blend in well with the cabinets. I had the furniture pieces before we bought the house and was delighted with the cabinets.

  12. I seem to remember the cult requires 'members' to 'tithe' something like a third of their earnings. As soon as they assess that, Juliette will either be broke or will be running away from the cult as fast as possible. It might be the only thing that will set her free.

I'm kind of surprised she still has the fancy house, an assistant, and funds to do whatever she wants since it's been so long since she's done a tour or cut an album.

  13. The blue cabinet craze is kinda funny to me because it's nothing new. Back in 1980 we rented a fairly new house in an upscale subdivision and the kitchen cabinets were navy blue. The laminate countertops and vinyl floor (in a faux tile look) were white. Also an interesting choice was two 'complimentary' plaid patterned wallpapers in navy blue and rust on a white background. That kitchen had a built-in desk in one corner and I loved it. All-in-all it was very functional in addition to being somewhat funky.

With Fixer Upper ending how long can this last?

I wonder if they are simply going to go "behind the design" on fixer upper homes that have already aired. That would be relatively cheap to do by using outtakes from the old shows that have already aired with JoJo adding talking head commentary. As a "companion project" that's what it sounds like. If that's the case, HGTV is really cheaping out with this one.

I'd rather see a "where are they now" type show with the homeowners adding commentary and showing their own furniture in the houses.

  15. For those of you anxiously awaiting the news, Magnolia Table is now open for breakfast and lunch from 6am to 3pm. According to the article on Fox News, "The HGTV stars have said the restaurant emphasizes breakfast because Chip considers himself to be a 'breakfast connoisseur.'” ROFLOL!!!

I don't think what Deacon did was that bad either, but I think it is going to be spun as an assault and then all the past stuff is going to get dug back up.  After all, the son has been told by someone that Deacon is a rageaholic and I'm assuming that was from Brad.

I didn't think what Deacon did was so terrible.

My thought on his relationship with Jessie... "run, Deacon, run!" She and her ontrolling ex and weird kid are just too much drama for a nice man like Deacon to deal with.

You can get one of those over-the-tub drying racks and hang your delicates to dry on it. At least that way the tub gets some use. :)

On occasion we've had to use a shower chair (broken leg) and I keep it in the tub. It's out of the way there and handy if ever needed again.

DH put up a wall-to-wall clothes hanging rod in the laundry room to dry delicates :)

See, I would want to change out the appliance in time, but until then, I would totally rock the 70's kitchen!!!  (Born in 1965 so.....yeah.)  My mom had a stove (almond from the 80's) and we had to convince her to replace it.  Only two burners worked, there some something burnt so bad inside that it would smoke all all the time.....oy.   Can you imagine a HH?  (We re-did the kitchen after she passed so no snark was allowed!)

I still have an almond fridge, which I got in 2001 to match my other 80s almond appliances. I've since replaced all the almond appliances, except the fridge, with black appliances. Am waiting for the fridge to die. It shouldn't be too long now, Hehehe.

I had a Jacuzzi tub in our previous house and I hated it. I never even used the tub, my kids would take regular baths, not with the jets on because I was afraid mold and mildew would come out. The jet area was always gross looking, even after cleaning the tub. It was the biggest pain. TBH, I find garden tubs to be a PITA. They are so awkward to clean, you have to get in them to clean the opposite side. I'm not a bath person anyway.

My master bath has a 'garden' tub and a separate shower. I tried out the tub when we first moved in 30 years ago. It took forever to fill and the water cooled too quickly to enjoy a long 'soak' in it. I haven't used it since. I'd love to remove it and replace it with a huge shower with a built in bench and then remove the old shower and replace it with a storage closet. I just need to get DH on board with the idea. Neither DH or I are bath people. I have a neighbor who did what I want to do with that bathroom and I need to get with her and find out what it cost and who she hired to do the work--the tile floor will have to be replaced, wallpaper will have to be removed, and a monster-sized mirror over the tub will have to be removed.

I don’t watch the show anymore but I came by to see if there was any new snark. Just booked a trip to Laurel, MS in large part to see the “Hometown” phenomenon and several of the Airbnb properties referred to their involvemenr with the  show.  I’m not staying at any of them, but AFAIK no complaints over there. The Gaines’ protests about the use of their company / show  name may reflect the relative “1st-world problems” of Waco, which i imagine is far more prosperous per capita than Laurel. In Laurel they’re grateful for any attention, perhaps??

My husband has family in Laurel, MS. It's a lovely little southern town and I hope you enjoy your visit there.

It really irked me how mean she was about his action figures while he was so nice about her wanting a wall-mounted ballet barre in one of the rooms. He said he wanted the barre room to be big enough so that she would be happy. And yes, for someone who insists on having a room dedicated to working out, she should have no problems with stairs.

He was really sweet and patient. She was a total bitch. Run, Batman, run!!

Did anyone else notice how she'd stop and 'pose' every time she was ready to speak? She was really rocking it, being on TV and all. The real estate agent looked humiliated by her behavior. He was her father, I think.

Definitely, agree.  Simply using the countertop material for the backsplash is a terrific option!  Sometimes, depending on the kitchen's size, it also maximizes / optimizes the use of the granite slab.  So, it's also more cost effective!

It increased the cost of our granite by about $1200, but was worth it to have it all completed at the same time. Everyone who sees it likes it. I actually got the idea from a neighbor who had her granite countertop extend to the bottom of the cabinets on one side of her kitchen. She now regrets not having it done on the other side as well.

    Here's the before and after...
