  1. I wonder which one of them will get the house in the divorce settlement. Mr Picky's wife looked totally over him with his uncompromising obsessions.
  2. The white guy in that couple was obnoxious and needs to get over himself. I'm so glad his partner got the home he loved. I'm not crazy about Charlotte (DS used to live there), but it's a really nice cosmopolitan Southern city and the airport is very easy to get around. As a hub for US Air, now American, it has a LOT of flights to many destinations domestic and abroad.
  3. Very interesting! Thanks for sharing. Lots of "no record of sale" on that interactive map. At that rate, AV and Donovan will be eating ramen noodles for the rest of their lives.
  4. It amazes me that homeowners still sign up with this train wreck show to allow a room in their homes to be literally vandalized.
  5. Agree. The lighter green paint sample is the one I'd have chosen. However, the bolder green did look different in a variety of lighting situations--a sunny vs. cloudy day, bright morning sunshine vs. evening shade. I really liked that Erin mentioned she used a lot of the homeowner's personal furnishings in the finished interiors. They were lovely and meaningful to her. The kitchen sink was an amazing save. We have a rocking chair like the ones they put on the front porch...from Cracker Barrel. LOL!
  6. Between her hideously dyed green and yellow hair with dark roots and the boyfriend's man bun, it was difficult to take them seriously. It was pretty obvious that they were never going to find a house with a basement to serve as band rehearsal space and could only afford the least expensive place in their desired location.
  7. I'm so tired of all the LIOLI and Property Brothers shows. HGTV really needs to come up with something new and interesting. Glad to see a new season of Restored by the Fords is upcoming.
  8. It was also common in Chicago suburbs like Melrose Park where a friend's father owned a three-flat. Her family lived on the main floor and relatives rented the upper floor and 'garden' level apartments.
  9. Several of my family members lived in Chicago back in the 50s and 60s and those 2- and 3-flats were never single family homes. My grandfather owned one on the south side at one time and it was always a 4-flat.
  10. LOL! It's an Arab country. Maybe she should should buy a burka.
  11. We are having the tile in our foyer replaced because, after 31 years, it has cracks in it. At the specialty tile store I happened to notice that they had some of that painted cement "Moroccan" look tile way in the back of the showroom. I asked if they have much call for it since I see it all over the shows on television. Nope. They have the samples and will special order it, but have never had anyone actually buy it. Interesting.
  12. I noticed that they used a fiberglass tub surround in the bathroom as well as the vinyl floor in the kitchen. Those were lower cost options that turned out well. We recently had deluxe vinyl tiles installed on our kitchen floor. They are "floating" above the old 1987 sheet vinyl that was glued to a gypcrete application over the subfloor. It would have required an entire new subfloor if the old sheet vinyl floor had to be removed. I wanted flooring that wouldn't be too hard on my knees and the new floating vinyl flooring was a good solution. It's only been in place for 6 months, but so far, so good.
  13. I just love him and his husband Bobby. I want to be their BFF.
  14. She was a bitch. I wanted to slap her when she was "claiming" that amazing entertainment space in House #1 for her crafts. She wanted the only space appropriate for her fiance's intended use--and that he liked--and wanted to shove him off into a tiny bedroom for watching movies. I knew they's select the only unfurnished house and it had a lovely yard and outdoor spot perfect for entertaining.
  15. I really enjoy this show, but I wish they would show more of the houses, like bedrooms, bathrooms, etc. The artist's house tonight turned out lovely and I hope the bathrooms have decent plumbing and there were no electrical issues.
  16. I've been trying to place AV's "accent" and I think I've got it. She sounds like she's attempting a nasally version of a Back-of-the-Yards accent but it comes and goes when she forgets to put it on. She actually sounds a lot like my aunt who lived in Des Plaines.
  17. Now that she's sold her old house and closed on the new one, here's hoping we never have to see her overly plastic face again!
  18. That's hysterical. I went to college at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb and most of my friends were from the city itself or Chicago 'burbs. NONE of the burb-dwellers every said they were from Chicago, but everyone at Northern recognized where Skokie or Naperville were. People from other parts of the country don't think of anything in Illinois but Chicago. It's always bugged me that Chicago is called Barack Obama's "hometown" even though he lived there a shorter time than I did as a child. I would never call Chicago my hometown, although I was born not far from the city.
  19. We have had two ceiling fans (outdoor Hunter brand fans) in our screened-in sunroom for five years and the blades haven't sagged. With the heat and humidity here only poor quality fan blades fail.
  20. She refinished/restored old furniture and wanted a space to do that.
  21. That door surround was butt ugly on the front of that house. It looked like an afterthought to make the facade "fancy" or something. I liked the doors, but they opened outward, which I though was odd.
  22. Our dining room has carpeting and no one has ever spilled anything on it. Although we have luxury vinyl in the kitchen/breakfast room we have a rug under the table there. Again, food seldom gets spilled on it.
  23. I noticed that also. We bought our home new 31 years ago and it had a fiberglass shower stall in the master bathroom that I recently had removed. I had a big shower with a bench built in the space where there was a fiberglass 'garden' bathtub that never got used and the old shower space is now a closet. We still have a fiberglass tub/shower in the other bathroom. In our experience they really held up well. No cracks or excessive wear in over three decades says a lot for how well they age if a quality product is used.
  24. I loved it that their cat followed them down the street. When it meowed at the front door I knew that would be their home. Kitty had already decided that it was her neighborhood.
  25. The thing that bothered me was that the tiny house was parked right in front of the huge deck offering a view from the winery building where it's assumed the "tastings' are held. Goodbye view for wine tasting guests.
