  1. I wasn’t the original poster but I also didn’t understand your comment about her “playing at WASPiness” Do you mean the particular episode, a scene, the whole season?
  2. While I’m sure Archie and Imogene had it out over Archie carousing with Joel (he won) we watched him commit to that foursome without consulting Imogene. I was worried but when Archie made the call, my opinion of her increased 10 fold already liking her (I think she hilarious) but worried about whether she valued her relationship with Midge for Midge or as part of a couple. They could keep their individual friendships but Imogene wasn’t becoming couple friends with Penny PANN. Take that Joel! He thought he could really just slot Penny into Midge’a place and he’d get another perfect version of his life—without all of the pressure of living with Midge’s so called disappointment. Such a weakling.
  3. This episode was simply gorgeous. The opening sequence was beautifully filmed and masterfully scored. Streisand’s Happy Days should have been so on the nose you should I rolled your eyes, but when the transitioned from NYE to present day and she was wearing the same dress gazing at that painting. Just gorgeous For me that opening was the foundation for another fantastic episode. Midge is moving forward in her way, intent on being good at this new version of herself: she’s studying the art of comedy, learning to live at home withOUT regressing to childhood habits and being justifiably angry with Joel.
  4. That's who that was?! OMG. I was going to look it up because I couldn't figure it out. I can't imagine what her doctor was thinking. She looks like an entirely different person. WTF? As for the episode, I kept thinking about how cute Trixie was and how much the actress looked like she could be Kevin Alejandro's child. I actually like Dan and think that Lucifer is such an over the top smary ass and that he'd have to the Devil for his pick up lines to work.
  5. John Legend won me over with Slow Motion! (Common needed no additional help on that front. I already adore him) John also wasted all the good will he earned by attempting MC Hammer and failing to do the Chinese typewriter--if you can't do the routine's signature move, pick another song. And I don't care that Chrissy is John Legend's wife--she's awful. I can't bear to watch this show live as she is an annoying twit. She has NO rhythm! And yes Common was better, but damn she could have been a tad more supportive. BWAHAHAHA!
  6. OMG. I had to delurk to express my extreme annoyance with this episode and the unusually crappy writing tonight. What did Sarah do when she broke up with Bruce the last time? Call that person please. And Gerald needs a suicide watch because he broke up with a girl he's been dating for two months? So they don't have a single friend outside their family? Really? Eddie won't bathe without "Bimmy?" That doesn't even make any sense. Jimmy was actually trying to balance his friends with his new found responsibilities like an adult and these leeches can't give him 12 hours? Jesus. And let me say that I loathed that Ronnie reveal himself to be jealous of Jimmy's new family. That's not a family--it's a pack of co-dependents.
  7. Delurking.... The line went: VO: The Grinder...New Orleans Olyphant: The Big Easy...just got hard
  8. Delurking to add my favorite quote: "Let's just get Justin Bieber...or his parents!"
  9. I think the show answered that question in the first episode and the answer is Cookie. Jamal is the child who maintained a relationship with her while she was in jail and we saw in the first episode that she offered him as much unconditional love and support that she could from behind bars. I think that that was enough. That's also what's wrong with the other two, IMHO, the lack of Cookie.
  10. First problem. They shouldn't have bothered if they couldn't get Whitney's recordings. I'm sorry, I don't want to watch a Whitney Houston biopic withOUT hearing WHITNEY HOUSTON sing and certainly not whoever they have doing a poor Whitney Houston imitiation. Changing back to Hindsight.
  11. She also isn't good at math. In what world would Lucious be a 110 when Anika was Cookie's age? Neither Luscious or Cookie are 50 yet. "What the DJ spins" was mega-hit 2002. How is she? -10?
  12. I think my favorite movement was President Obama cursing Lucious out and then hanging up on him. LOL! I see Lucious didn't tell "Barack" to get that bass out of his voice! This show is ridiculous in the best possible way. And Boo Boo Kitty has reason to be worried. It was subtle last week and it was obvious tonight: Lucious still craves Cookie's approval and attention. It would be worse if he only loved her or lusted after her--he actually respects Cookie. It begs the question: why did he let her go to jail? The easy answer is he that he's a worthless punk ass bitch (my default opinion) but I think there's more to the story. We know the facts: she went to jail and he moved on, but I'm very interested in the why. Why would Cookie leave her children? It's part of the what makes this show so special. Real melodramas or good soaps tell you a story but realize that you have to wonder about more than the scene you're watching. That's why you come back the next week. And it can't be opaque mysteries with unsatisfying and contrived answers. It's how a character, who has become real to the viewer, reacts in the face of the ridiculous. Last week it struck me as unbelievable that the mother who was ready to kill the man she adored to protect her son would then leave all of her children with the man she couldn't trust to do right by them. Cookie is inappropriate but she is a fiercely loving mother--they all would be better of if she had been more present in their lives. Jamal is the most well adjusted and I think he owes that to the fact that he's the child with the closest and most consistent relationship with her. It wasn't enough to overcome all the pain and hurt Lucious' inflicted, but he's carved out a life. When I look at Hakeem, the child who had the least time with her, I feel a great deal of pity. He's an obnoxious ass, but Lucious is incapable of giving him any proper support, so he treats him like a man and no one ever let him be a little boy. Andre who had her the longest and lost the most, ruthlessly excised her from his life--only to find her in another form. I don't think Rhonda's playing him, I think she's mothering him, Cookie style.
  13. Coming out of lurkdome to share a link to a letter from Jay's oldest child. She put into words exactly why I was ultimately dissatisfied with this whole debacle. It was enjoyable train wreck TV, but when they attempted to prop him up as a symbol and inspiration for other men like him, I was flabbergasted and appalled. Oprah and Iyalana got ratings, but in my IMHO they didn't really help anyone who needed help, the real victims in this mess, the children. http://www.forharriet.com/2014/10/dear-iyanla-thank-you-for-fixing-my.html
