Shopping Channel Hosts: Sales Prevention Team

Looks like someone in dire need a bathroom break ('Mommy....I have to go potttttyyyyyy!') or some Depends.

Have enjoyed that late-night presentations always feel a bit more relaxed. Not the high-pressure sales pitch usually used during daytime/primetime hours. In some instances, some of the off-hours hosts are amazingly capable...and sometimes preferable!...to the ones we're forced to endure at other times. Whether you like Helen, the shows she used to do at 3 a.m. ET(?) packing 10 items into the hour, interacting with the set crew, showing how the displays were wheeled in and out, was enjoyable.

I know the BFF grabs those for gifting. Last I saw a sampler configuration, seemed expensive for the handful of little bottles in the set and some of the scents weren't appealing so opted to pass. (Sometimes question if they pair poor sellers with the more popular to move product.) I've seen review complaints by customers who ended up buying a large bottle of a particular fragrance, based on glowing comments, only to be hugely disappointed and wishing there were more options for trying the options.

I was also looking to give the Limoncello a try. Been really disappointed with Philosophy scents, of late. BFF gave me 16 oz bottle of Cinnamon Bun, back in '09 and it was yummy and fragrant down to the very last drop I could eek out of the bottle. Last few years I tried Lemon Custard and Sweet Cream. Zero scent in either. Nada. I'm super, duper sensitive to fragrance so not detecting anything says something. BFF recently scent a small bottle of the Cinnamon Bun. I was thrilled to have it again but it's barely detectable. 😞

I stopped watching Alyce a long time ago. She has an incessant air of 'naivete' or incompetence which don't translate well. It's one thing to feign interest or uncertainty which'll result in the OAP providing the necessary details or demonstration, but she comes across as bumbling. (For a long time, when first watching her, thought she might have some kind of hearing impairment as she had an odd affect which was quite flat, as if she wasn't hearing nuance.) Even when she was paired with Bill for jewelry presentations, they admittedly had a nice camaraderie....which I think dated back to their TX days...but he provided all the substance while she blathered about fluff. In most hosts, given enough time or information about their background, I can see a glimpse of what they brought to the position. Not with AC.

Also a huge fan of SA. Only caught the tail end of her shows on Evine (think she did a Saturday morning fashion gig), so was happy when she showed up on HSN. Very evenly-tempered (in spite of the likes of DG) and personably pleasant. While appreciating what DG went through, it's almost as if she sometimes escalates being boorish and downright obnoxious as though she now feels even more entitled. 'I survived cancer, therefore....' Even when she shows a whisper of humility, it's just a brief sidestep while regaling viewers with ego-driven tales of rock stars and her questionably decadent lifestyle back in the day.

I actually thought SW's OAP did an admirable job of repping the line and showing some enthusiasm. But I don't recall the 'designs' being anything of note...and nothing which could justify having a celeb's name attached. Antthony has cornered the market for anything SW allegedly felt was needed and he's not only knowledgeable and skilled but continues to provide a new variety of styles for his large fan following along with has fun personality and obvious excitement for what he does.

Agree about SW. Whenever the host would attempt to engage her in conversation, she would appear to have been 'awakened' from a mental haze ('Huh?') while she always appeared poised to slumber or bolt. Her vocal 'style' was so monotone it never engendered a sense of personality with any warmth or interest.

MaryD continues to pack on the pounds so her very snug, white jeggings(?) are most unattractive. No one needs or wants to see all the lumps and bumps. And tops with a portion of the lower front hem pulled into a scrunch ends up looking like something is stuck in the waistband of the pants from their last trip to the restroom.

Hmmm. LOVE BG! With rare exception, he's been doing the overnight shows (a couple of recent ones with DebD and Robin). Wonder if he'd tape some segments? (A few times he was rather candid about the demands of working in the wee hours.)

Didn't warmed up to Robin although did find her more watchable during overnights. Couldn't stomach CCC but she did seem to know her product and appeared to have a fun rapport with Jay King. As an animated and energetic storyteller, he feeds off the hosts who fuel that behavior, exhibit a level of silliness (like Suzanne, Helen). Never got the impression Brett was enjoying doing his shows...just doing a job. Too much cockiness, a degree of 'irritation....too serious. Didn't watch him enough to see if he ever just let loose, laughed, appeared lighthearted. Colleen's niche is her jewelry shows, sometimes her clothing designs. But she can also don the 'I'm the dutiful worker' hat (more akin to Brett) for shows which are clearly of limited or no personal interest to her.

Noticed that. I watch the Ho quite rarely but will scan the online Programming Guide to see what shows are scheduled, who's hosting. Then will wander into their YT online stream for a few minutes if something of interest. Was a time when certain hosts had their 'signature' shows and time slots. Now it seems like it's anyone's guess who'll be scheduled, even at odd times. Still don't understand the reasoning for Colleen being thrust into the 'Saturday Blend' line-up...following Brett and Leslie. Perhaps to help their numbers. With BC leaving, perhaps those shows are kaput. (Didn't Guy used to host mornings with Leslie?)

Being on the Left Coast, would quite frequently start watching HSN with the TS and then into the late hours. Year or so ago, when they went to recorded programming all night (various 'Best of' shows), had no desire to watch. At the time, there was talk of what the various hosts were doing with all their down time given fewer hours. HSN has only picked up a few new hosts in the last couple years (unlike the Q), but reverting to recorded shows, no surprise that some hosts are agoner (whether of their own choosing, mutual agreement, or ?). Have to wonder how secure even Colleen, Callie or Shannon are these days. With the huge corral of unwatchable new hosts at QVC, would the Ho long-timers be looking at a potential move to West Chester? I could see those three retiring before being uprooted, heading to PA (after soooo many years in FL).

Yowza. Watching on mute and some of the visuals are jarring. LOL Dara reminded me of the 'I Love Lucy' epi where Lucy, Ricky and the Mertzes are taping a promotion for Phipps Dept store. Lucy intentionally sabotages the segment appearing in Little Orphan Annie-type wig and huge, faux teeth.

Thought I heard DV state he was quite proud to acknowledge he'd not only eaten a whole slice of key lime(?) pie but had started on a second. Goes against those who would contend he only takes a bite or two of the various dishes during presentations. 'Bite or two' for something he clearly doesn't care for, yes. When it's something he likes, or really loves!, I've not seen him show any restraint. (Even if he limited himself to small 'tastes' here and there, the amount of food he consumes over the three to four hours of the show literally makes my stomach hurt and I'm just watching.)
