Wild theory here : Maybe the husband told the police to tell JB because he doesn't have any contact with the family and wanted them to be informed. That funeral may just be for the Lester family and the husband has nothing to do with it. Tom and/or his husband may have already prepared his funeral arrangments. JB & co. are just doing their own thing at his gravesite.

I don't understand why they would inform JB. If JB was the only family left, I could see it but the guy had a partner. The husband would inform the family if he wants to. Maybe the uncle lives in state that doesn't recognize gay marriage?

These days, a lot of conservative Chritians are really promoting that public schools are brainwashing kids with their woke agenda. So even though Derick went to public school, I would not be surprised if he thinks schools are not the same that they used to be and that he doesn't want his kids to be exposed to some things.

I don't see the Duggars are as calculating as some thinks. I don't think their posts on SM is to distract from the documentary, book or Josh. I think they are mostly just living their lives. Of course, some of them like Joy and Jessa post to make money, but I don't think it's a big plan to make everyone forget about all the scandals.

I don't think Derick was ever in IBLP. He may have been interested in some apects of the Duggar lifestyle for a while, but I don't think he was ever into Gothard. When they went on their "mission" in LA (can't rememeber where), I don't think it was with a church affiliated with IBLP.

That's actually the whole reason why they have so many kids. The more they are, the more chance they have to make everything according to their values.

I don't know why a lot of snarkers think that JB has such a huge problem with Jeremy that he would prevent his kids from interacting with the Vuolos. Jeremy, Ben and Derick were never Gothardites and JB still allowed them to court his daughters. Jeremy and JB are not BFF and disagrees on a lot of things, but I think they tolerate each other. As long as Jeremy is a conservative Christian, I don't think JB makes such a big deal out of it. Also, I don't think JB is as controling with his adult children as a lot of people think. If Jeremy ever starts talking shit publicly about JB like Derick did, the Vuolos will get banned from the Duggar house.

The Duggars are self-employed/work for daddy. They don't have jobs with a boss. And how much they make is a the Duggars biggest mystery.
